36 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2019

The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while their son was driving approximately 55 mph in the evening, a police officer crashed into the front passenger side door. The front rearview mirror was also impacted. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The police officer was unable to see the vehicle due to the headlight clarity. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local mechanic, however the failure was not diagnosed. The headlights were not replaced. The driver was injured but decided not to receive medical treatments. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

37 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2019

Headlights are too dim! even after changing bulbs, it's still dim. I have to put my high beams to see at night. I don't feel safe driving at night with this car.

38 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while driving at night, the front headlights would not adequately illuminate the roadway causing a visibility hazard to the driver. After replacing the light bulbs, the failure persisted. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 105,000.

39 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2019

The passenger side headlight is too dim. There is no light coming put of the headlight assembly. I thought it was weak bulb and had it replaced but the problem didnot go away. Went to Nissan dealer who told this is a known problem in Altima and no recall hs been ordered. They were not sure of solution but told whole console chnage may solve the issue. Right now I need to put high beams on as only driver side headlight gives right amount of light. The passenger light is on but nothing can be seen. The headlight panel is clean and clear but no light comes out.

40 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2019

I was driving the car one evening and when the headlights automatically came on I noticed they were significantly dimmer then normal. I rode about a week or so with the dim headlights and it appeared that they were gradually getting dimmer until one of the bulbs eventually went out. I had both bulbs replaced and the headlights remained severly dim. So dim that there is no light being emitted onto the road and I have to use high beams when traveling after dark.

41 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

My low beams headlight are so dim that I cannot drive safety without use of high beams light. Other driver are not safe either when I have to use my high beams, just in order for me to see at night when driving. I replaced the bulbs more than one time and there is still no improvement.

42 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the headlamps failed to provide enough illumination to drive at night. The contact stated that the headlamp lenses needed to be replaced. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer stated that warranty mileage was exceeded, therefore the vehicle was no longer covered under the warranty. The contact was informed that the vehicle would have to be paid for out of pocket to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 73,000.

43 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

Low beam headlights' brightness has degraded over time, since car was new in December 2013. Suspect projectors have degraded.

44 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2019

Regular (low beam) headlights are extremely dim, despite me cleaning the exterior of the headlights and replacing the bulbs. Yesterday in north raleigh, nc, I ran over a low concrete divider separating the main traffic lanes and a turn lane, because I couldn't see it at all. The dimness seems to be particularly bad for peripheral lighting (which makes sense giving my example above, changing from one lane to another, and not seeing the concrete divider at all). From researching this issue online, this problem seems very common among 2013-2015 Altima owners - apparently the headlight assembly's projection system degrades or wears out.

45 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2019

Low beam headlights became extremely dim over time. My Altima currently registers 135,000 miles. I did not notice the problem because I drive the vehicle daily. However my wife, who does not drive it regularly, has mentioned the dimness to me on multiple occasions. Initially I believed the problem rested with the bulbs; however, replacing those did not improve light brightness. After an online search, it appears that the problem may be due to heat induced clouding of the projector lens. Neither headlamp assembly has been compromised. I believe that such equipment is durable in nature and that, unless damaged, should last the life of the vehicle. Finally, I've noticed that th problem is so severe that low beam light from vehicles behind me cast more light than my own low beams. Indeed I can easily see the shadow of my vehicle which is casted from the low beams of the vehicles behind me. This is a severe safety problem for me, other drivers, pedestrians, etc. It deserves the immediate attention of the NHTSA. This problem is an issue at night time, particularly when in motion since reaction time may be insufficient to avert and accident or incident.

46 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2019

I have 2 of these model Altima's. Both suffer from the same problem the low beam headlights are very dim and it's hard to see at night. Very unsafe.

47 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2019

Low beam headlights are very dim when driving at night. I can't see anything that is more than 100 feet in front of the vehicle. This can cause an incident especially on the highway going faster speeds and non illuminated areas where you need to see further ahead. The high beam lights are perfectly fine, but when using my low beam headlights, it's almost like they are not even turned on.

48 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2019

The headlights on the 2014 Altima are dangerously dim. At night they provide effectively no lighting. To see while driving at night, I must use my brights which then makes me a safety hazard to the visibility of other drivers on the road. I have replaced the light bulbs and also upgraded to led bulbs with little to no improvement. This issue is relevant on city streets, highways, or country roads, from dusk until dawn. While driving in the early morning hours it is extremely hard to see pedestrians and extra caution is required as a driver to ensure the safety of people around me as well as myself.

49 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2019

Low beam headlights do not project light onto the road making a huge safety hazard for drivers. The mirror reflectors inside the headlight assembly are burned and corroded making the low beam light ineffective. From the driver seat you cannot see any light on the roadway, and have to use the high beam lights just to see what is in front of the vehicle. It is really evident on roadways with no street lights as it feels like driving with the lights off on the vehicle. I have tried new bulbs, higher intensity bulbs, and leds with no success. My only option is to replace the whole headlight assembly at a substantial expense on a vehicle which is only 5 years old.

50 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2019

Low beam headlights on 2014 Nissan Altima have deteriorated to a point where the light does not project out onto other cars on the roadway and traffic control devices cannot be seen resulting in collision with curb type median traffic control device while moving to turn due to inadequate illumination of roadway surfaces.

51 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2019

We purchased this used and upon driving it at night, we discovered the headlights are very dim. It's nearly impossible to see without the high beams on. Replacing the bulbs did not help at all. We have since done some research and see that it is a very common problem with 2013, 2014, and 2015 Nissan Altimas. The research says that the reflective covering in the headlight assembly becomes blackened and then, even with working bulbs, does not properly project the light forward. The only way to fix it is to replace the whole headlight assembly at a dealership which is very costly. We are afraid to drive this car at night at all, and should not be responsible for the huge repair cost. If the articles are correct, Nissan is aware of the issue, but refusing to issue a recall. Please help. . Read more...

52 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2019

Low beam headlights are way too dim when driving at night.

53 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that both low beam headlights provided very dim illumination. The contact could only see approximately a foot away from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to Nissan of gadsden (1701 rainbow dr, gadsden, al 35901) where it was determined that both headlight assemblies needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000. The VIN was unknown.

54 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2019

The headlights are very dim. Even with brights, the headlights do not illuminate the roadway adequate to see.

55 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2019

Low beam headlights are extremely dim. My understanding is that this is an issue with the light housing and not the bulb. The reflective material in the light housing is breaking down and not reflecting the light any longer. Hard to see without using high beams.

56 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2019

Low beam headlights on my 2014 Altima have become really dim to see at night. The mechanic changed the light bulbs but this did fix the problem. He said the projector (lens) material inside the headlight assembly is corroded and that the whole headlight assembly needs to be replaced. This is a very serious safety problem since it affects visibility at night, and Nissan should provide a remedy for this manufacturing defect.

57 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the headlights went out and then turned on again, but were very dim. The failure was a hazard because the contact could not see the road while driving. The vehice was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the headlight bulbs, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 32,000. The VIN was unknown.

58 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2019

The headlights on both side becomes extremely dim to see the road at night, which becomes hazardous. Went to Nissan dealer who told this is a known problem in Altima and no recall has been ordered. They were not sure of solution but told the whole assembly would need to be changed. Several times got beeped from incoming cars as the headlights were so dim as if headlights were not turned on. I first noticed this issue in July of 2019 and this issue has become more evident once my daughter started to practice driving using this car.

59 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2019

Can not see at night due to very dim headlights, high beams work fine just not the low beams. Have replaced bulbs and even the local dealer can not figure it out. I can only see while driving at night about 20 feet in front of me which is dangerous on dark rural and interstate highways.

60 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2019

My headlights on my '14 Nissan Altima are very dim, to the point that I avoid driving at night or in the rain because I cannot see more than 5-10 feet in front of me. I live off of a dark road with limited lighting, and is always fearful of hitting something/ someone or running off the road so I'm frequently driving with my bright lights on just to make it home safely. This progressing dimming worries me because I drive often for work in occasional high construction and newly developed areas where equipment may be left out in poorly lit areas, like cones or machinery, that are difficult for me to spot from a safe distance. If reflectors are not present in the road or highway, I have difficulties staying within my lane because of the dimming headlights, resulting in placing other drivers and myself in danger. I have taken my car to a Nissan dealership, which I was explained that it has nothing to do with the light bulb itself, but a defective or worn projector lens which will cost approximately $1000 to replace.

61 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2019

I have a 2014 Nissan Altima that has 72,000 miles on it. The low beam headlights are so dim I can barely see a foot in front of me. This is a real safety concern. I have replaced the bulbs with led and it did not fix the problem. Traveling on any road I have to put my bright lights on just to see. It's not safe to drive it at night and I shouldn't have to put my safety or the safety of others in jeopardy just because Nissan has a flawed system they refuse to acknowledge. It's surely someone's responsibility to make Nissan put out a recall on these headlights so we as the car owners don't have to pay $1,000 for something that is Nissan's fault. As of December 2018, this particular problem ranks 10th in the carcomplaints. Com recent problem trend list. This is a manufacturing issue. Nissan needs to address the issues before someone gets hurt. I am begging you to please make Nissan accountable for this problem. There are literally hundreds of consumers complains all over the internet and there are over 96 complaints alone on your website that pertain to this specific issue for 2014 Nissan Altima's from. Please make something happen before someone gets killed!!!!!!!.

62 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

The low beam headlights are too dim. Its a safety issue at night.

63 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the beam of light projected from the headlights were inadequate to drive safely in low light conditions. The contact had the headlight bulbs replaced however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that she learned of a film like substance clouding the headlights of similar vehicles causing the luminescence of the headlights to be severely diminished. The vehicle was taken to central Nissan (2907 e parker rd, jonesboro, ar 72404, (870) 268-5454) and the contact was informed that the headlight assemblies needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

64 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

Despite replacing the bulbs and even trying hid light bulbs for the car, it is nearly impossible to drive at night due to the headlights being so dim. You literally have to drive with your bright lights (high beams) on in order to see more than a few feet ahead of you as you drive. It is extremely dangerous and poses risk not only to the driver because they can't see without driving with high beams on, but also to oncoming traffic being subjected to blinding lights in their eyes.

65 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2019

The headlights of the Nissan Altima 2014 are too dim for safe driving after dark. The low beams, on regular setting, barely shine in front of the vehicle and provide little to no lighting for the surrounding roadways. The peripheral view of the road and/or medians, while driving, is obsolete. While driving the highway at night, I am forced to turn on the high beams in order to see a few feet in front of me. On more than one occasion, I have completely missed a car driving on either side of me, because of this issue. Even after replacing both bulbs, the lack of lighting is evident. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle at night, when I do not have the help of the city street lights. I have researched this problem with Nissan Altimas and it seems to be an issue for 2013-2015 Altimas. After speaking with a mechanic, it was confirmed that this issue is rampant among Altima owners. Replacing the bulbs for the headlights does little to solve the issue, and the only other option is $1,000 worth of work to improve the problem. This is an ongoing issue that should be addressed for all individuals who own this car. Inadequate lighting, which is an understatement in this case, is a major safety hazard for the drivers of these vehicles not to mention everyone who shares the road with them.

66 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2019

My 2014 Nissan Altima headlights are very dim and I have to drive with brights on just to see at night. This is a real safety concern. I have replaced the bulbs twice with led and hid and they have not fixed the problem.

67 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2019

Tl-the contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima while, driving at various speeds the low beam headlights failed to produce adequate lighting. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to first team Nissan of new river valley 2130 n franklin st, christiansburg, va 24073 540) 382-2903 where diagnosed that the light bulbs needed to be replaced. But was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where informed that the headlight assembly needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 88,383. The contact stated that the failure was due to the reflectors being corroded. Ap.

68 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

The headlight low beams were very dim. I replace the entire headlight assembly. About 1/3 of the reflective surface inside the projector was burn off and parts were cracked from the heat of the head lamp. The headlights were so dim at times it was impossible to see the road. This is a very unsafe condition and should not happen in a five year old car. The dealer wanted about $1000. 00 to repair as both the right and left headlight assemblies need to be replaced. I was able to purchase the genuine Nissan parts for about half that price and I did it myself.

69 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2019

Vehicle has terrible visibility at night when in motion. The vehicle has an inferior headlight assembly, causing you to drive nearly blind and to almost rely on the next vehicle in front of you to provide you a path. I initially thought it was the headlight bulbs that were the issue. I had changed them out and it only improved visibility ever so slightly. I was told by the Nissan dealership that it is due to the headlight assembly frequently going bad. They told me that it is fairly common for the reflective part of the headlight assembly to go cloudy and go dim. They told me that since this was considered standard wear and tear, therefore not covered by warranty. They recommended me to replace the whole headlight assembly for over a grand. I was even recommended to buy them after market to save, however, this should not even be an issue! this issue presented itself after owning it from new for about 5 years. This is a known issue that Nissan is refusing to address this issue. I have never experienced this type of issue with any other vehicle that I have owned. This is a hazard and can certainly cause safety hazards for the driver.

70 Headlights problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2019

Low dim headlights in front of vehicle. Makes it extremely hard to drive vehicle at night without high beams.
