1 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2021

The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the rpm decreased. Additionally, while driving the vehicle was shaking and shut-off with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was restarted and operated as designed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was towed to fontana Nissan (16444 s. Highland Ave, fontana, CA 92336, (909) 574-2288) who diagnosed the vehicle and confirmed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehcile was not repaired due to having a salvage title. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the dealers were independently owned. The failure mileage was 74,000.

2 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced random issues while attempting to accelerate from a stop. The vehicle would fail to exceed 2 mph with the accelerator pedal depressed to the floor. The vehicle shuddered with an abnormal sound. The vehicle was turned off and restarted for the computer to reboot. The contact received a letter from the manufacturer citing a known issue with the cvt transmission. The manufacturer extended the warranty coverage to 7 years or 84,000 miles. O'neil Nissan (849 street rd, warminster, PA 189740) was made aware of the failure however, there was no dtc codes retrieved. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to take it to another dealer for a second opinion. A field technician was sent to diagnose the failure however, the field technician had not shown up to diagnose the vehicle. Montgomeryville Nissan (991 bethlehem pike, montgomeryville, PA 18936) was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that no failure codes were retrieved. Both dealers informed the contact that other Nissan vehicle owners had reported the same issues however, the manufacturer had no remedy for the repair since the failure could not be replicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 63,665.

3 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2019

Car shudders, idles up and down, loses power while driving. When accelerating, the tachometer will raise to 4500-5000 rpms with no real power supplied to the car, and will only slowly accelerate(slipping?) tachometer bounces up and down within 100rpm range while coasting. My cvt is about to fail.

4 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2019

June 2019, vehicle started to judder, shake and stalled out at red light. Put the car in park, restarted the vehicle, put it into drive and it stalled again. This happened 3 more times until I was able to drive. Approaching another set of lights, vehicle slowing down and the judder and shaking began, I did not come to a complete stop so the car did not stall. I was able to drive home. I then let the car sit for 2 days before I drove it again and when I test drove it after those 2 days, the car seemed to be better, it did not stall out. It did shake a little and judder. No problems like that occurred until 3/9/2020. Approaching a red light, car judders, started shaking and stalled out. I then put the car into park, restarted, from park to drive, it stalled. I repeated this process for 5 minutes. I had to get out of the car and physically push the car off to the side of the road. 3/10/2020 drove the car to the dealership. Same thing happened in the vehicle on my way there. Juddering, shaking and stalling. I was able to slow down and make sure I did not let the vehicle come to a complete stop because it would stall out. I went on the highway because that was the easiest route. The entire time the car was shaking and I was going 60mph, which was 5mph under speed limit. Parked the car at the dealership. Explained to the technicians what was wrong, one of the technicians took my vehicle from where I parked and brought it into the garage. He confirmed my car was juddering, shaking and stalled. They notified me the car would not be able to be looked at possibly until 3/16. My car sat there for a few days, like it did back in 2019 when this first occurred. Upon further review of the diagnostics test, they were unable to duplicate the stalling, juddering and shaking. So they did not replace the cvt transmission instead they replaced the valve pipe.

5 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2019

Vehicle shudders when coming to a stop, then shuts down. On occasion will not re engage into gear without shutting down and then must be towed( twice has died in the middle lane of a road, needing to be towed). Generally occurs when slowing down but has also happened when trying to accelerate. Nissan dealership claims there are no known issues with these transmissions and are unable to replicate issue.

6 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2019

Car shaking coming to a stop then cut off.

7 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2019

When I was driving my car started grinding as if the engine wanted to shut down or the transmission I was getting ready to get on the freeway and I could barely move it was in gear it wouldn't do it in low gear either I will come to a stop light or stop sign because I was trying to make it home which was 5 miles away, and it would just barely inch out sometimes it won't even start for about 45 seconds to a minute to go into drive and the rpms at 25 miles an hour would hit up to five rpm's the whole time driving,I take really good care of my car in for this to happen to my transmission is not ok and then I started looking up that this is common in my car so why haven't you done any recalls? it all starts at 70,000 miles but there is no recalls for that because you only have your warranty is up to 60,000 miles which is a good thing because you know that the transmissions going to go out after 60,000 miles, anyway I barely got my car back to my home and I have a mechanic look at it and it's going to cost me almost $4500 to get my transmission fixed, and I still owe 16,000 on it. I don't know what's going on with your Nissan ultima's but looking up online mine is not the first one that this is happened to so therefore since I can't drive a car because I can't afford to pay all that money, and then I also am out of work because I need a car to drive back-and-forth, I am going to find an attorney that will do a class action lawsuit against you guys for the vehicles doing this! what is happening is not ok, and should never happen but with everything I looked up online there are hundreds of Nissan Altima's 2014's around 70,000 miles that the transmission is going out this is a problem and it needs to be addressed!.

8 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2018

This is the second transmission issue I've had in less than a year. The car began shaking in February and stopped on me while at a stop light. There have been no check engine lights or anything to alert me of an issue. Now the car will hesitate severly before shifting gears. If I take the care out of park into drive or reverse, it takes upwards of 30 seconds for the car to engage into that gear. I have been stranded at home and at grocery stores due to the faulty transmission which I'm now being told needs to be replaced. I have had to endure random moments of shaking and even feeling as if the car has died while driving on the freeway. There have been no indicator lights regarding any issues with the car the car is less than 5yrs old and is a little over 100k miles I have been having transmission issues now for about almost a year.

9 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2018

I was completely stopped a busy intersection waiting to make a left turn. With no warning the car jerked forward. The force of the jerking motion was so great that I initially thought I was rear ended. The car started sputtering like it was going to shut off, I had cars in front and back of me and had no where to go. I shifted the car into park to try and give it some gas to keep it from shutting off and it immediately shut down. I tried starting the car again and it immediately shut down as soon as I tried to shift into drive. I did this multiple times and the car kept shutting down. I was finally able to keep my foot on the brake and the gas at the same time and keep the car running. I made it to work thankfully I was only two blocks away and had to have the car towed back home. I was shaking and scared to death. I could have been killed!! I later found out the cvt transmission failed and will cost aprox $4000! this car is only 4 years old. After doing some research and reading all of the complaints about this car and the transmission. . I am shocked that Nissan is still allowed to continue with this "death trap" of a car! someone is going to get hurt in this car!!.

10 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2018

A few months back I took my 2014 Nissan Altima, 4-cylinder to the Nissan dealership for a recall that was in connection with recall with the software of the transmission of some sort. I did not receive notice but was advised of this recall when I took my vehicle to nisaan to get services for an oil change. The recall was completed. Since having the recall complete my vehicle has been having transmission issues. At times I am driving on the freeway and the car shudders and loses power. I have come close twice to an auto collision as I am shifting lanes my car completely loses power and drops speed without my control with he rpm dropping drastically but regaining within seconds. The car jerks and shudders. I have had another family test as well and has said that the car is unsafe and something is wrong. I researched and see a multitude of complaints identical to mine to this particular year and model. I am taking to the dealer to have diagnostic complete and have explained that my vehicle was fine prior to the software adjustment with the transmission. I have been told that they are not sure if this is the issues and possibly I will get stuck with paying whatever repairs. This is completely unfair to the consumer having to pay out of pocket for a transmission defect that thousands of Nissan owners are having the issues and nothing seems to be done to remedy this unsafe vehicle. I would like investigation to be done on this and in the event that while I am driving this vehicle and this occurs causing an accident I will hold the manufacturer at fault for allowing this vehicle to go un-repaired for a faulty transmission that thousands of consumers are complaining about as being a "lemon of a car" and "unsafe. " the date this issue last occurred with me driving my vehicle was around 8:30a. M. On January 5, 2018.

11 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2017

I have a 2014 Nissan Altima that is nearing the end of the powertrain warranty; I took my car in last week for vehicle recalls and explained to them the problems that I have been experiencing with what I believe to be the cvt transmission. I explained how the car will shudder between 10-25 mph spontaneously and that there was no surefire way to know what was causing it or when it would happen; I explained that there have been a handful of occasions where I am at a stop and press on the gas pedal to drive and the car barely moves which has almost caused an accident on at least two separate occasions - another incident that happens spontaneously; and lastly, I explained how the rpm's will rev and the transmission would stick. The first day that Nissan had my car, they said it acted up, but they couldn't get it to do it again and no codes came back to reveal the problem. After day 2, they said there was nothing more they could do regarding the issues I complained about. When I went to pick up my car, the service manager jeff thibodeaux said he believes it is my transmission and wanted to replace it,but he couldn't because there is no code coming back to show the problem and they couldn't get the car to act up again. I explained my concerns about driving this car, the safety of my children and how the warranty was about to expire in less than 500 miles; he said they have it documented in the system and if something happens after the warranty expires, they would "go to bat" for me. I went a step further and filed a complaint with the consumer affairs department at Nissan (last Friday). Today, I received a call from amanda, the case manager for our region (case number 27815853). She wasn't helpful; indicated that unless the part fails, there is nothing that they can or will do. She terminated the call when I told her I was recording her.

12 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2014

Car will shudder at low speeds (15-35 mph) took car in to dealer, they updated the software but, the transmission "failed' the diag test. A new transmission was put in the car. The car still will shutter unexpectedly mostly at low speeds (however a couple of times have be documented by me at hi-way speeds) in general, when the motor rpms are around 1000 rpms and you give it a slight amount of acceleration, it will get in to the torque stall situation. So, coming to stop lights and then needing to go before coming to a complete stop, or turning on subdivision where slow speeds are required or turning into a parking lot or parking space. Have documented many many dates where this has happened. It was back to the dealer but, the have not had the issue happen to them. I have not let my teenaged drivers drive the cars as I do not feel it is safe for them to do so. This situation is not safe.

13 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2014

Vehicle has recurring transmission problems a couple of times per day over the course of 100 mile commute. Most often occurring in stop and go traffic 20-35mph speeds under light acceleration. The transmission causes the car to shake violently while under light acceleration. The dealer has been unable to verify or recreate the problem.

14 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2014

Example 1. While driving in my town home community and slightly turning right while going up a slightly inclined road the vehicle begins to shake violently and it seems the transmission is locking up. Goes away either by removing all pressure on accelerator or if excessive accelerator pressure is applied. The type of accelerator pressure needed to stop the excessive shaking would bring the vehicle to a speed that is unsafe relative to observed speeds limits in community. Example 2. These exhibited symptoms have also occurred with an increasing frequency while driving on city roads in light to moderate traffic: when you are coasting up to slower moving traffic in front of you and then need to accelerate as that traffic increases speed, the car will shake violently. This occurs mostly at speeds under 30 -35 mph but has been felt at speeds as high as 55 mph. It feels as though the entire drive train of the vehicle is going to fall out of the car. Vehicle currently has 1200 miles on odometer and symptoms have been increasingly noticeable and frequent since 605 miles on odometer. Separate issue: navigation / audio system has frozen screen upon start up and becomes un responsive. No ability to change previous volume level of radio which may have been left at high volume level during previous drive. Input is not accepted on head unit or steering wheel controls. Navigation will not initiate. Car must be restarted for system to reboot and this may remedy the problem for one drive cycle or more. Has occured 5 or more times in first month of ownership. Should a catastrophic failure in the drive train occur, I feel that I am at risk of serious personal injury. Additionally I am concerned that resale value of vehicle will be diminished due to damage caused by inherent design flaw in power train and in-car electronics.
