36 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2022

I am the original owner of this 2015 Nissan Altima and I am having difficulty seeing when driving at night. The headlights are very dim. I recently (12/9/22) took my car in for service for a separate recall dealing with the hood latch. I mentioned the issue with the dim lights to them at that time and they inspected my headlights. They inspected my lights and agreed that they were dim and they informed me that the headlight assemblies needed to be replaced. They even provided me a copy of a Nissan service campaign (ref pc861) dealing with halogen headlights dimming due to quality defect on the vehicle causing the delamination of the headlight assembly. However, they told me that it would not be a covered repair because the campaign had expired about 10 weeks prior to my visit. They recommended I call Nissan USA and see if they could help me. I did that and they basically told me no. I spoke to several people in the organization. I feel like this is a safety issue when driving the vehicle at night and since it is a known defect and I am the original owner I believe it should be covered. The cost of the repair is $1,300. I will attach my service department paperwork from 12/9/22 where it states the lights are bad, a copy of the Nissan service campaign that the dealership gave me, and a copy of a class action settlement concerning this same issue for your review. I have spoken to Nissan USA several times without success so I am hoping you can help me resolve this problem. I even tried to resolve it through the better business bureau but they are being told by Nissan that the car is outside the warranty. I believe a safety issue like this should be covered outside the original warranty. Thanks in advance for your help.

Nissan is aware that there is a problem with the headlights. There was a class action suit against them for this defect. They need to be made to issue a recall. It's very dangerous as the lights are incredibly dim making it difficult to see. I tried to get them repaired by Nissan but I missed the class action suit deadline by 5 days.

38 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2022

I recently purchased a 2015 Nissan Altima for my 17 yr old son as a first time vehicle at a local dealership. Unfortunately and unbeknownst to me, this vehicle had a class action lawsuit in which the deadline ended prior to me purchasing the vehicle for having "halogen headlamps (“class vehicles”) defect that causes an interior reflecting surface of the headlamp to deteriorate, resulting in dimming of the low beam headlights". This vehicle is still not recalled by the manufacturer, Nissan. It puts drivers and passengers in extremely dangerous situations on the road. We have driven this vehicle twice at night and even with the high beams, you can hardly see ahead of you. I am shocked that these vehicles have not been recalled. Because I purchased this vehicle a week ago, I had no idea of the recall and when I looked up the VIN, the deadline passed. I contacted Nissan who said they will not do anything because the deadline of the class action lawsuit passed. I contacted the attorneys for the class action lawsuit who also stated nothing could be done because the deadline passed. So here we are with my son's first vehicle, now having to dish out more money to get this manufacture defect repaired because the manufacturer refuses to accept responsibility and recall these vehicles to repair this issue.

39 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2022

Purchased a used 2015 Nissan Altima 2. 5s and discovered that low-beam headlights are very dim. We almost hit a deer due to low visibility. Internet search reveals this is a known problem. We are too late to benefit from the class action lawsuit. A safety recall should be issued.

40 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2022

I brought my 2015 Nissan Altima sl additions on local Nissan dealership back in March and I was told nothing was wrong with my last driver side headlamp, and I am experiencing delamination where it’s not so bright, I believe my vehicle has been affected by the recall but now it’s past the recall deadline date.

41 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2022

While driving at night in a poorly lit area, I could barely see. I turned on the high beam but it blinded on coming traffic. I checked into this and found out Nissan was sued for this and had a short (approximately 3 months) period when you could get it fixed for free from the dealership. No recall issued even though Nissan was well aware of this. But when I tried to get it fixed, the dealership did not have the parts. There is only one dealership in sacramento, so by the time I could get back with them, this repair window was closed. I think this was too short of a repair time for such a safety hazard.

42 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2022

This is one of the absolutely worst kind of problems that fundamentally affects the safety of the car when driven at night. Problem: delamination of the headlight reflective material resulting in severely degraded headlights. A multitude of accounts including at least 2 youtube videos with many comments confirming the problem state that there is so little light the car is or is next to undrivable at night. This is a major safety issue which I am currently working around by driving with my high beams on all the time after causing a blowout on the passenger side tire by hitting an object I couldn't see and replacing the halogen with xenon bulbs before I knew what the problem was. I also nearly hit a pedestrian one night. Nissan settled a class action lawsuit that required Nissan to notify all owners of 2013-2018 Nissan Altimas and remedy the problem one of 3 ways but only up to sept 2022. . Read more...

43 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2022

The front headlights of this car do not work properly. It is almost impossible to drive this car at night without always using the high beams - the front headlights do not provide enough light to see the road, people or animals clearly. This is a mayor safety hazard, not only for the driver but also for other vehicles and pedestrians. This is an issue that has taken place since the car was purchased. Therefore we opt not to drive this car at nighttime if we don't have to. I'm reporting it today because we were unable to return to the house before it got dark, and it was very scary to drive without properly lit roads. Thank you for your prompt attention to this issue.

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while driving at night, the headlights were extremely dim. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact notified the dealer of the failure and confirmed that the failure was a known issue; however, there were no recalls for the failure. The contact was given an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was also contacted but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

45 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2022

Purchased car from third party late September 2022. Immediately noticed that night driving was nearly impossible to see with headlamps on dim. Going from high beams to low beams is almost like switching to parking lamps. Can’t drive with high beams on when there’s other traffic it poses a hazard to oncoming vehicles. Took the car into Nissan dealership the following week and they told me I missed a deadline on headlight replacement coverage. Only owned the car a week at that time. I swapped out bulbs and had outer covers polished. Still can’t see to drive safely at night. Poses a huge safety risk when night driving is unavoidable. Really wish Nissan would reopen any claims for the dim lighting for those who didn’t know about it before purchasing.

46 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2022

Have trouble seeing where I'm going in the dark. Nissan knows about this problem, but says it could take 9 months to get replacement headlight assembly. How did Nissan get away with not getting a safety recall? did they line the right pockets?.

47 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2022

Low beam headlamps very dim causing poor lighting. Had headlamps replaced per law suit settlement agreement. Still problem unresolved. Returned to dealership to complain and was told headlamps pass their testing. Still low beam lamps are so dim its creating a safety hazard, so, I drive with high beams on. Dealership refused to drive my car at night to verify hazard. Dealership told me to buy aftermarket headlamps and they will charge me to install. This issue is not being resolved with the law suit agreement and many consumers are very upset that they are driving around with very low beam lighting.

48 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2022

Low beam headlights on 2015 Nissan Altima are defective and Nissan or dealer are not replacing as needed. This is a safety issue.

49 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2022

Nissan has a recall for headlamps, I am an owner of a make and model and year of said recall, and have attempted to have headlamps corrected; dealership says I won’t receive the remedy. I cannot see with the current headlight and it is a safety issue.

50 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2022

The gear stick gets stuck when trying to shift gears it wont move from parking, headlights seem to not give enough lighting when on, I have replaced the transmission after 3years of having the vehicle, I still owe on the loan and the vehicle still shakes when driving over 80mph on the freeway. I dont currently have any warning lights on the vehicle. I have taken the vehicle many times for repairs for the same complaint that the vehicle shakes when driving it and the problem still has not been resolved. I already spent a lot of money on trying to fix the problems.

51 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2022

Altima headlight class action lawsuit, issue did not begin to occur until after the deadline of 4/25/22 and did not receive a notice. Headlights are so dim and I have to drive in the dark that this puts myself and others at risk. The Nissan dealership will not look at the headlights until my VIN has been included in the NHTSA database they refer to.

52 Exterior Lighting problem

53 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2022

There was a class action lawsuit for the highlights on my Nissan. The first week of April 2022 we had the highlights check by a Nissan dealer. We were told that it is included in the lawsuit and that they would replace the highlights. They had to order them and would call when the came in. It has been two months and they keep saying the replacement highlights has not come in. I call the parts department and was told that I could come in and pay for them. Then they could have them next day. Call the service department and was told again that our car is on a waiting list for the highlights. They don't know when they will well have the replacement highlights. The car can not be driven at night without the high lights on. We were pull over one night for riding with the highlights on oncoming vehicles and told that it is not safe to drive the car until the lights are fixed.

54 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2022

I have a 2015 Nissan Altima with the headlight delamination recall warranty. The dealership found that my vehicle was affected by faulty headlights. Diagnosed in may of 2022 and was told new headlights would be ordered. It is now March of 2023 and I still cannot drive my vehicle at night due to poor illumination on roadway. This concerns me as a sfety issue that they refuse to expedite, also that they admit was their issue to repair. It should not take 10months to get headlight parts into their dealership. As I mentioned the vehicle is not driveable at night safely. I ask that you look into this issue with the dealership and their lack of support to assist me as an owner. I was always told that the headlights have not come in yet and that I just have to wait. I pray they still honor the warranty work as the warranty period has expired in just waiting for the headlights to arrive. They did diagnose issue and order headlights within the warranty period. Dealership name and phone# razzari Nissan service dept. Merced,CA. 95340 209-354-2400.

55 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2022

I took my vehicle in for the light delamination recall. In the last year I have had to replace my headlamps with with three different types headlights because you cannot see at night with the lights on. None of them worked. I order to see at night I have to drive with my brights on otherwise nothing is visible. The Nissan service department denied the recall stating there wasn’t an issue. But prior to my appointment they stated they were out of parts.

Received a recall notice from Nissan USA that said headlights could dim below acceptable levels. Took the vehicle into colonial Nissan in charlottesville va in April 2022. Dealership confirmed our car had the problem but said no parts were available. I have checked back every 30 days since then and am always told no parts are available and Nissan can’t say when they will be. We have ceased driving the car at night due to dim headlights.

I received a class action lawsuit settlement for the headlights of my Nissan ultima when I contacted the dealership they said there is a no contest I don’t know what that means but I know I was supposed to receive replacement headlights due to my headlights being so dim it’s hard to see while driving at night and is really a safety hazard Nissan is not honering the settlement.

61 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2022

Nissan Altima headlights do not work effectively and barely illuminate the roadway. Recall was issued for headlight replacements months ago. Car was brought to dealership months ago for headlight inspection and approved for headlight replacements. Multiple phone calls have been made to find out when the actual headlight replacement will occur but still have not received an answer to if/when headlights will be replaced. Have tried replacing headlight bulbs with 3 different brands/types of bulbs and none of them make a difference with the brightness of headlights.

62 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2022

My vehicle is part of the class action suit for Nissan Altima headlamp assemblies. I have gone through the proper channels with Nissan. In the interim I have had a bulb go out. At this point my car is dangerous to drive after dark and I must drive with high beams on. Nissan will not do anything to help except to say that I am on the list. I avoid driving after dark as much as possible, but some times it is absolutely necessary. Nissan is being negligent in this by not offering any solution and not being willing to help with the replacement bulb or trying to expedite the replacement of my headlamp assemblies. If there is an accident due to the state of the headlamps I will take legal action against Nissan.

Head lights are very dim.

64 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2022

The headlights are so dim due to delamination, it's a serious safety hazzard because you cannot see more than four feet in front of you at night. I try to avoid driving at night like the plague. I've read where people have had accidents and have been pulled over by the police because the light output is way too low. I'm also aware of suarez vs Nissan lawsuit due to this issue.

65 Exterior Lighting problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2022

I have a 2015 Nissan Altima that was purchased brand new in 2016. Over the past few years the headlights have become very dim. It looks like the lights are not on while driving at night. You can barely see the lights on the road which makes it a safety hazard. It's even worse when it's raining or foggy outside. I've taken my car to the dealer a couple of times for them to check out the lights and replace the bulbs. They told me that replacing the bulbs wouldn't do any good and that the headlamp assembly will need to be replaced. Recently I received correspondence in the mail in regards to a class action lawsuit against Nissan for the defective headlamps. The same issue I'm having with dim lights caused by delamination of the reflective surface inside the headlamp assembly. I took my car back to Nissan and told them about the lawsuit which directs Nissan to replace the headlamp assembly. The Nissan dealer inspected the headlamps and did some kind of test and told me that my headlamps are fine and didn't meet the criteria that Nissan gave them to replace the headlamps. This is still an issue with my vehicle and it is still a hazard to not be able to see the lines on the roads while driving at night. I've also talked to the Nissan consumer affairs but they didn't offer me any solutions other than to call the number for the Nissan settlement administrator. No one answers the phone and I only get the recorded messages with information about the lawsuit that I already got from the website.

66 Exterior Lighting problem

My headlights are very dim (very dangerous) to the point I can’t see 10 feet when the sun goes down. I never got a recall notice for Nissan 2013-2018 dim headlights.
