1 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2026

I made a left turn out of my work parking lot and felt a clunk. Shortly afterward, the car started shaking violently at about 10 mph. I relocated it to the Nissan dealer near my workplace and they discovered the rear lower link/control arm was fractured from rust deterioration. I was advised that they had previously had an extended warranty for that item. I told them I was never made aware of that warranty and reached out to Nissan. They told me that because I “failed” to keep track of my warranty I was out of the window on that repair being covered. I asked how I was to know about the issue if not for the part snapping? he insisted that they sent notices (to the address I lived at when I purchased the car in 2015). He then advised that since work was already started on the car there was likely nothing they could do to offer a goodwill adjustment since I’d agreed to the repair. He advised me that I should have called before bringing the car in (to check the status on a warranty I had no idea existed). I take the tollway home. 5 minutes later and I could have died.

2 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2026

I drove the car and 1min after it loses control and we checked it and found out the rear suspension lower control arm broke off from the subframe.

3 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2026

When backing out of my garage the driver's side rear lower control arm catastrophically broke. Thankfully, I was traveling at slow speed so it did not cause and accident. This is a major safety concern for other Altima drivers and the drivers and occupants of vehicles around them if this type of failure would occur at highway speeds. This is a known issue for as there was an investigation which closed last year. That is unacceptable and there should be a recall. This is a severe product defect and the manufacturer should be held responsible.

4 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2026

Rear lower passenger side control arm snapped.

5 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2026

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, the steering wheel jerked and caused the vehicle to shift into the left lane. The contact immediately slammed on the brake pedal and repositioned the vehicle into the intended lane, but the vehicle felt unstable as if the vehicle was driving on ice. The contact pulled over to the side of the road to inspect vehicle but found no cause for the failure. The contact drove to the residence. The contact’s husband reversed the vehicle into the garage, exited the vehicle and became aware that the rear passenger’s wheel was pushed into the wheel well, revealing that the rear control arm was fractured. The contact stated that the rear control arm had fractured while driving, causing the vehicle to veer into another lane. While reversing in the driveway, the control arm completely detached, and the wheel fell inward. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 196,000.

6 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2026

Rear lower link failure. The car has 145,xxx miles on it. I live in wisconsin where we use salt. I was driving the vehicle and hit a pot hole and the driver rear lower link failed in January 2026. Calling the dealer for repair I was informed of p9324 which did not cover my car. I bought replacement parts from Nissan to replace the rear lower links on both sides. Driver side had failed already and passenger side was ready to fail also. I called Nissan support and I was informed that my car had a warranty extension on the rear lower links through April 27 2025. This notice was sent to the wrong address so I was not aware of it. Also the rear lower link failed after the warranty extension. Nissan call person said there is nothing they can do for me. This is a know failure point Nissan know this by offering a warranty extension and p9324. All Altima's that used this same rear lower link should have been included in p9324. Control of the car was compromised and harder to drive and not recommended with this failure. No need to reproduce failure as the part broke. No inspection besides my self as the dealer told me $500+ in labor to repair, I repaired my self. No warnings. Part can be inspected for 1 week then it will be disposed of. Pictures are attached.

7 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2025

I was driving going 60 mph on the highway when then I felt as I was sliding on as in the rear when my steering wheel immediately shifted right hard . I was able to pull over safely without causing an accident . My steering where was a quarter turned to the right while my car was still driving straight. Due to excessive rust from an unknown source my control completely snapped in half while the vehicle was in motion.

8 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2025

Right rear passenger rear tire assembly broke off from frame of vehicle.

9 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2025

The rear control arm corroded and disconnected from the car. While I was driving. I was backing out of my driveway and there was a loud clinking noise and I observed the drivers side control arm hanging down. And my tire is now very high in the wheel well. Thank god it did not let go while I was on the highway.

10 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2025

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while his son was driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle started shaking and vibrating abnormally. The contact stated that while his son was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle felt as if the vehicle was drifting to the left and was bouncing. The contact stated his son was not aware of any warning lights being illuminated. The contact stated that his son drove the vehicle back to the residence. The contact looked under the vehicle and became aware that the driver's side rear control arm was fractured. The contact stated that the driver's side rear wheel was leaning into the wheel well. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

11 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2025

Driving down highway, hit dip at bridge seam, when the car bounce up from dip, the right rear control arm snapped in half. Car lost control to right, fortunately I was able to maintain control somewhat and avoided accident. Right rear wheel tilted at 45 degree angle. Car currently at repair shop with snapped lower rear control arm.

12 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2024

My husband was pulling in a parking spot and heard a pop like noise and went out to inspect the car and saw the rear tire was falling off the car. We are told it was the lower suspension link.

13 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2024

Over the last 2 years I had both left and right side rear "lower link" suspension elements "rot out" and break while operating the vehicle. Both times leaving me stranded roadside. After the the 2nd failure I felt it couldn't be a coincidence and found Nissan has issued a voluntary action and admitted using faulty parts in Altima's between 2013 to 2018. They voluntarily extended the warranty to 10 years and unlimited mileage. They are now denying repair of my issue because I am 2 weeks beyond their arbitrary 120 month warranty extension. I say arbitrary because how can they put a time limit on parts you know to be faulty and are corroding? I have one of these known faulty parts and simply based on random circumstances mine failed 2 weeks too late. So they Dodge responsibility for selling me a poor quality car? at the urging of the dealer, I escalated with customer satisfaction believing they would own up to this and acknowledge responsibility. Customer satisfaction mandated I must tow the car to Nissan to confirm failure of the part - which I did at my expense. The dealer confirmed the part failure but customer satisfaction parroted the "denied because it was 2 weeks too late" position. I believe Nissan 1) minimized to the nstb the safety risk this failure poses (breaking while at moderate to high speeds and stranding people in traffic roadside), 2) is failing to act in good faith to cover a know manufacturers defect and 3) is employing "bait and switch" tactics by telling customer to have vehicles towed to their service centers to only then deny coverage based purely on "calendar date" (in hopes of forcing a customer to pay to use their service center).

14 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2024

Upon entering highway and reaching 75 mph, vehicle pulled hard to right. I made a correction to keep vehicle in center lane of a three lane highway. Shortly after I made the first correction, the vehicle again pulled rather aggressively to the right, I again made a correction back to maintain center of lane. After making second correction, I noticed my steering wheel very off center to maintain vehicle tracking straight in the lane. (steering wheel indicating a left turn to maintain a straight track). Simultaneously, the vehicle traction control indicator illuminated on the drivers display. I quickly checked my tire pressures to rule out a flat tire. I pulled off to the shoulder of the highway, as the vehicle was getting more difficult to control in a straight line. Not noticing any obvious damage and the need to vacate the highway environment, I illuminated my hazards and drove approximately 5-10 mph to the next exit 1/8 mile away. Arriving in a safe location, I again exited the vehicle to inspect all four wheels at which time I observed the right rear tire angled inward at a harsh angle. Upon further inspection, the right rear lower suspension control arm had broken free at the bushing and angled the coil spring downward at an angle. The vehicle was not able to be driven and subsequently towed via flatbed 45 miles to my auto repair facility.

15 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2024

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving 42 mph, the rear end of the vehicle was shuddering. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the rear passenger's side upper control arm was fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA action number: ea19002 (suspension). The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,500.

16 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2024

Out of town and control arms went while turning a corner. My steering wheel was sideways and I was going straight. There was no warning, noises or dashboard lights prior to this happening. My vehicle has 130k but well maintained. Prior to this happening I was driving on the thruway at 65mph, this could of broke then causing a potential accident or something worse. Why wasn't there any warning lights advising of this potential problem?.

17 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2024

The rear control arm on the driver side snapped while my wife was driving. Now the rear side sways.

18 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2024

Rear lower control arm failed while driving. Luckily I was able to maintain control. Not sure if I would have been so lucky had I been on the highway. Car rear end was unstable and hard to control. Had vehicle towed to private repair shop then researched warranty campaign. Currently having it towed for the second time to a Nissan dealership.

19 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2023

I was driving along on slightly rough pavement and the car sort of twitched in the rear end and then every few rotations of the rear wheel, the car shuddered-accompanied by a grinding noise. Then I noticed, that to continue in a straight line, the steering wheel was about 30 degrees, clockwise, to the right of center! I managed to limp on down the shoulder of the road at 10 mph and made it the mile and a half to my house. I thought a wheel bearing had failed, but when I took off the driver's side rear wheel, I discovered that the lower control arm was rotten with corrosion and rust and had collapsed. I searched online for the broken part but, fortunately, found out that Nissan had extended the manufacturer warranty due to pressure from NHTSA. I had the undriveable vehicle towed to the local Nissan dealer (matthews) and they fixed the car- same day, no appointment, no charge. And they took care of the hood latch recall at the same time. I still can't believe I have my car back, and functional, in what would be considered-in the car repair business- as the 'blink of an eye'. All's well in vestal, NY. Thank you, NHTSA.

20 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2023

Rear control arm broke while driving on the highway. We are lucky the car did not crash and cause serious injury to myself and others.

21 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2023

Right rear control arm broke while driving down the road causing the car to lose control. Appears to only have very small contact points to the bushing.

22 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2023

Passenger side rear lower control arm snapped when backing my car out of the driveway. Through inspection looks like driver side is starting to crack. There are recalls on the USA for this problem up to 2013 and in canada for 2013 and 2014.

23 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2023

On 6/28/2023, without any type of advanced warning, my rear driver's side control arm on my 2015 Nissan Altima failed, almost causing me to get into a severe accident; noting the rear tire was almost completely torn from the vehicle. The steering wheel also abruptly turned and locked to the left with a complete loss of control of the vehicle. The only thing that saved me from getting into a head-on accident with another vehicle was that I was operating at a slow speed and was able to stop in time. I never received any type of notification from Nissan, prior to the incident, to advise me of the voluntary service campaign p9324. Had I known this, I would have at least had Nissan pay for my vehicle being towed and repaired, instead of paying for it out of my own pocket. On 1/4/2026, my rear passenger's side control arm failed when I was backing up in a parking lot. I was not in any type of danger this time of getting into an accident, but I was still not aware of Nissan's related service campaign and again paid for the repair, out of pocket. Noting that both control arms had now failed on my vehicle, (at different times, which could have caused death and/or severe injury to myself and/or others), I decided to investigate the issue further and discovered for the first time the existence of the service campaign notification p9324. On 1/6/2026, I contacted Nissan's recall support line and reported to them, both of my vehicle's break down(s). I was then advised that Nissan had changed the service campaign notification regarding the rear control arm(s), to a "warranty extension", which ended in June of 2025 and therefore, they would not be willing to reimburse me for either of the repairs. In closing, I would like to say that it is disgusting that I was never advised of this service campaign notification by Nissan that could have caused my death and/or serious injury and that Nissan will not continue to stand behind the costs to repair their defective part.

24 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2023

A- arm on rear suspension rusted out.

25 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2023

My car only has 36,400 miles. I went for an oil change at a third party garage and was told my front control arms are cracked and need to be replaced. I went to the dealer who confirmed this and also said there was a recall on the rear control arms. I have talked to numerous mechanics who said that the control arm should not be failing at 36,400 miles. I contacted Nissan asking them to help me with the cost of the front control arms since they are failing at such low mileage. They are not willing to do anything. I feel like the front should be replaced by the dealer.

26 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2023

The right rear lower control arm broke away from where the bushing is. It was the innermost bushing towards the center of the vehicle. It appears the metal is rather thin and rusted away. While driving, loss of control happened. With a bit of occasional snow on the road it was really bad as the car went from tar to a later of snow. The tire sat a bit sideways.

27 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2023

This is my 3rd Altima. The first 2 were amazing. This 1 is not. I bought it used from shift. Com with 73k miles on it. About 6-8 months later I started feeling something wrong in the steering. The shop I took it too said the lower control arms were in the rear were corroded and the bushing were going bad. Tried to get it repaired thru the extended warranty I paid extra for but that was a nightmare and we ended fixing it ourselves. Something was still wrong. I put new tires on it, still wrong. Changed out the struts on front and shocks on rear, new control arms,, bushings, sway bar links, and tie rods. New brake pads and rotors. Then I bought custom wheels and another set of new tires for it. Took it and had an alignment done. The shop said everything looked good. Not long after it started drifting all over the road and I started hearing a whining noise. The next shop said the electric hydraulic power steering pump was going bad. Again the warranty company only allows the shop to call in and handle any repair claims and then they make them sit on hold forever. This is my only transportation and I can't wait for it to break in order for the warranty to repair it. In the meantime trying to figure out what to do the car is getting harder to drive straight down the road. I turned left thru an intersection and ran over the center median blowing out a tire. In 2 other occasions I hit my new wheels on the curb because the steering wheel has excessive play in it. We ended up changing the power steering unit without help from the warranty. After some research I had the lower steering shaft replaced also. The entire suspension has been replaced(front struts 2x) and it only has 115k miles on it. It's had 3 alignments in 2 years and yesterday the man at les schwab said the rack and pinion has some play in it. As well as the upper steering shaft needing to be replaced also. Oh and the cvt transmission is now leaking.

28 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2023

My low beam headlights very low ,so low seems like they aren't on,have to drive with high beams on, there was a recall in 2022, that I wasn't made aware of also the control arm front driver and passenger side is cracked and my car has never been wrecked. Brought it brand new off the Nissan dealership lot. Had issues from the start with the interior they call themselves fixing ( but did not).

29 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2023

I changed out my sway bar links cause I keep hearing a klunk sound ( metal on metal) and noticed how rusted and brittle the rear control arms. I'm afraid to drive the car.

30 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2023

The left back lower control arm broke into while I was driving . There is not a recall on it yet. I was traveling over a bridge with light traffic when the traction control light came on and I was hearing a lot of noise coming from the vechile . I turned my emergency flashers on and looked around the vechile but did not see anything . So I drove with the flashers on to my car repairman . When he lifted the vechile up he showed me what had happened it had rusted through. I consider myself very lucky if there had been heavy traffic I would have most likely been in a crash . The part too replace it is very hard too find .

31 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2022

Left rear lower control arm broke while driving due to rust and cracked weld. I was lucky to be going at a slow rate of speed when it happened. The rear left tire turned inward and it was undrivable.

32 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2022

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, he lost control of the vehicle while making a right turn. The contact stated that the check engine light had illuminated on the instrument panel prior to the failure. Despite the failure, the vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic where it was discovered the the rear driver side control arm had broken. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. The VIN was not available.

33 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2022

My rear rear lower control arm are both rusty and about to break.

34 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2022

On 7/22/2022, our 2015 Nissan Altima began to shake heavily while being driven at approximately 30 mph. Please note that our 16 year old newly licensed son was driving the vehicle when this occurred. The traction control light came on and the vehicle was unable to be driven safely. Thankfully, he was able to get to the side of the road and we were able to have the car towed to our mechanic. It was determined that the driver side left rear lower control arm had completely broken off due to corrosion. Pictures attached. The left rear control arm was replaced by our mechanic. On 2/3/2023, our 2015 Nissan Altima was being driven at approximately 30mph by our 16 year old son when he reported a knocking sound and the car began to shake. He reported the traction control light came on and he had to maneuver the car to the side of the road. Photos attached. The car needed to be towed to our mechanic as it was unsafe and unable to be driven. It was determined that that the passenger side right rear lower control arm had completely broken off due to corrosion. The car is currently waiting to be repaired.

35 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2022

My 2015 Nissan Altima, I've had it (7 years), started stopping without warning. Last week, I've had the valve cover replaced, because it was oil coming through one of the chambers of my spark plugs, I got a new battery, & I got the oil changed to make sure that everything was flowing correctly and running clean. Then it happened again. I put my car in park, I turned it off, and started again. There were no warning lights or codes that came across the dashboard. It was more frustrating because there's no warning no preparation it just does it so I did a system diagnostic ( hitting the push to start button 5 times then hitting the door button on the inside of the door jam 10 times then hitting the push to start button 3 times and the car will test all of the systems). My car was not running hot, there are no warning lights, you don't know when it's happening it feels like it's pulling or struggling with torque, and then before you know it you've come to a complete stop. It happened in the middle of an intersection. Multiple codes are hiding in the system, with no indications on the dash. The code discovered by my local mechanic was p7f1 (transmission code). This is based tech bulletin #ntb15083a. Hundreds of owners of Nissans have indicated the same issues with no resolve from Nissan or their local dealerships this is dangerous.
