On 8/17/2020 at 11:30am I was driving at approximately 15 mph when everything in my car, including the engine shut down with no warning. I quickly placed the vehicle in park and after 2 attempts my car restarted with no other problems that day. On 8/18/2020 at approximately 1750hrs after exiting the expressway, again my car shut down while driving 10-15 mph, after 2 attempts my it restarted. The car currently has 46,000 miles, I am the original owner and the car is serviced as scheduled by manufacturer. I currently have an appointment on 8/28/2020 with Nissan of queen for an evaluation of this problem.

While driving on i95 the car shut off and was steered very difficultly to the off ramp and the side of the road. Smoke started to come out of the front of the car and I exited the car and the car proceeded to be engulfed in flames burning the front half of the car to the front seats. Fire rescue arrived to put out the fire. 1116.

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the check engine and slip warning indicators remained illuminated when the vehicle was parked or when shifting out of drive. Also, while driving highway speeds, the vehicle lost power, the transmission gears failed to change over, and the vehicle shut down. The vehicle was coasted off the road and parked. Balise Nissan of cape cod (322 falmouth rd, hyannis, MA 02601, (508) 815-4010) was contacted and indicated that an unknown manufacturer campaign regarding the reprogramming of the continuously variable transmission (cvt) failed. The dealer recommended that the vehicle be diagnosed to determine if the cvt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was unable to be driven and the manufacturer did not volunteer to have the vehicle towed. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 122,000.
On 3/25/19 my 2013 Nissan Altima stalled while driving home from work on a city street. While driving to work the following day 3/26/19 during rush hour traffic on a city street my car shut off without warning while idle. There were no dash lights to indicate what was wrong with my car. The car starts but when it is placed in gear it shuts off again and again. This is a safety hazard, thankfully I was not on the freeway. I was finally able to get the car started and pulled into a gas station. I have to get my car towed to a dealership due to it shutting off.
I was driving 2 weeks ago n I was donig about 45 or 50 when it just shut off by its self no warning or nothing n its costed me lots of money on top of just replacing almost the whole front suspension I was on a city sreet in motion when it just cut off 6.

I bought my car brand new with only 113 miles on it. I have sense put 160k highway miles on it but have had no issues until now because I get it serviced regularly. I was driving to work last week and at 30-45 mph the rpms started jumping between 1k and 2k. Once I got past 60 mph this stopped but eventually my car would stutter and stall at traffic lights making it dangerous if turning in front of traffic or coming through intersections. I took it in immediately for diagnostics and was told I needed a new transmission and since my warranty was out I would need to pay $4500 out of pocket. I got a second opinion and I was told by the dealership I service it at that it was my fault because I didn't have the transmission flushed when they told me to, yet there is nothing in the owners manual stating this is a requirement, only a recommendation by the dealer. As shady as dealerships are these days of course I didn't have it done because I assumed they were charging me for something unnecessarily. I spoke with a mechanic friend of mine and he said the transmission flush would have done nothing to prevent my transmission fail. What is even worse is that no warning lights came on and my dash looked the same as it always does, the only lights that came on were my battery and brake lights when my car shut off at a traffic light, but it started right back up after that. I have asked for assistance from Nissan and have been denied even though I have serviced my car with the dealer even after my warranty expired. There are 4 other people in my family that own Nissans but apparently that means nothing to this company. Needless to say if I can get this thing traded in on a Honda I will never purchase a Nissan again! also, just do a google search of problems with Nissan Altimas. The results are staggering.
I was driving on a road going appx 35 mph. Stopped at a traffic light, and my engine shut off and my car drifted. The brakes wouldnt even work. My radio and lights remained functional. I turned the car off and restarted it and when I put it in drive or reverse, it shut down again. The engine only stayed on in neutral or park.
At random times while driving vehicle will shut off causing sudden decrease in speed, then restart on it's own within 10-15 seconds. When car shuts off all dash lights turn off and there's no throttle response. The last time it shut off I was going around a bend and caused car to collide with guard rail.

My car shut down multiple times while driving it to work. I had to get it towed to Nissan and find a way to work. Nissan said they reprogrammed the cvt transmission and didnt bother to tell me there was a recall. When I got it back it was worse than when I took it in the first time. It is unprofessional and dangerous for them not to tell me about the recall.
I have had three separate occasions where when driving the vehicle and attempting to turn into a corner the car completely shuts off and loses all power and ability to steer. The first two occasions occurred where I could simply place the car in park and restart as if nothing happened. The last occurrence 2/9/17 happened as described above was turning into an alley going less than 20mph when car just shut off. I placed the car in park and when I attempted to restart, the car turned on but when pushing the gas the car would barely accelerate. I had the car towed and the wrecker tried to drive the car onto the tow truck but was unable to get it up the bed as it didnt have any power to drive up the bed. I took it to a Nissan dealership who ran diagnostics and stated that there were no codes that were identified. They stated it was running just fine, and could not reproduce the same issue. This is a huge safety hazzard as there is absolutely no notice when the car will shut off and lose power steering. This could easily be a huge accident if occurs on the freeway. I would like answers as to what is going on with the car. I have seen hundreds of other Nissan owners with similar problems (all reporting that no diagnostic codes prompted during diagnosing).

I purchased my 2013 Nissan Altima (44k miles) in may 2015. I had no issues with this vehicle until I reached the 50k mile mark in January 2016. The first issue started when the vehicle would push really hard driving up a hill. The next issue happened on 5/2/16 when I placed the vehicle in ¿drive¿ and it went forward for a few seconds and it completely shut off. To be clear, it was not the battery. Everything worked in the car except its ability to actually drive. I took it to the Nissan dealership and they kept the vehicle for about 2 days for inspection. I was told that they couldn't find a thing wrong with the vehicle; no error codes or driving issues while the vehicle was with them. I had no choice but to take back my vehicle and hope for the best. However, on may 21, 2016, the vehicle shut off again. I was almost rear-ended because it shut off while the vehicle was in motion. I sat in the middle of a busy street for 20 mins before the vehicle decided to drive again. I'm almost sure that it is the cvt transmission. I have researched this problem and it seems as if I'm not the only Nissan owner with this problem. The cvt transmission seems to "go out" at the 50k mile mark. I find it hard to believe that this vehicle can shut off while in use and there is no code or trail as to why. The most dangerous part of this experience is that the car shuts off while it is being actively driven. I use the freeway twice a week and there would life-threatening effects if the vehicle shut off in that type of traffic (65-75 mph). I have never had a vehicle that completely shut off and a certified mechanic could not tell you why. As I previously mentioned, I'm sure it has something to do with the transmission because the vehicle's driving capabilities are affected. There's no telling what other parts are being affected by this issue.
2003 Nissan Altima. Consumer writes in regards to engine, power steering and brake system issues while driving. Consumer states "never received defective sensors replacement recall notice". The consumer stated the engine shut down while in the midst of driving. The consumer had no steering or braking capability. The consumer was informed his vehicle was not included in the recall. The consumer had to pay for the sensors out-of-pocket.
Car keeps shutting down while driving ! its happened 6 times since I bought car in January 23,2014. First time it happened was very next day of purchasing the car. Its happened a total of six times, including today/this afternoon while driving on the expressway on hwy 111 in imperial county, California. My car lost all power, engine shut down, lost control of gears (drive gears locked), attempted to start car could not start ignition. & I lost all control of the steering wheel. Same happened on each prior occasions/times. Engine shut down, no control of steering wheel, would not start, gears/lever would get locked in place. . I do not feel safe driving this car !! this car is a death trap ! I have a small child (7 years old) I am putting my child's and my life in danger by driving this car any further. Dealer insist they cannot find defect/problem. Again, they have also conviniently never wrote my concerns on any the their work tickets, when I have presented car for repairs. I bought car from rogers & rogers nissian dealership in imperial, California 92251 please help us before we get into a serious accident & hurt or kill our selfs or someone else. !!! because of this defect !!.
Car randomly shuts off in stop and go traffic after driving over 20 miles. Car has been towed to local dealership twice, however, the dealer is unable to duplicate. Car shakes, shudders, cuts off. Car will restart but gas has to pressed excessively hard for engine to turn over, car continue to jerk while restarting. Local dealership has had my car for 30 days! I was told that Nissan America was contacted for direction, car may require software upgrade and/or new transmission. Which is speculation! the service advisor was told by the mechanic that they are not 100% that this solution will fix the problem. Since the local dealership was unable to duplicate no repairs have been made. I have seen several complaints of the same issue on the 2013 and prior year models. I will also file another formal compliant with Nissan America. This car is not safe to drive as it randomly shuts off without warning other than the violent shaking and shudder immediately before the car shuts off! thus far the car cuts off when stationary, if the gas is pressed before the car cuts off completely the car will self correct and not shut off. This has happened twice in 6 months on a city street, this car has a little over 60k miles.
Wife was coming home from the airport when approaching stop sign the engine shut down without notice. "no brakes or power steering". Vehicle was pushed by city workers into parking area. Later on after the vehicle sat it started and we were able to get it home. Next day I noticed the engine light on! I took the vehicle in to check the codes. Codes indicated it could be the battery or a crank, cam sensor. Battery showed bad. Purchase new battery and assumed everything is okay. I drove the vehicle down to a store and when I pulled into a parking spot it stopped. Later on vehicle started and drove next door to a auto dealership. Dealership ran a diagnostic test indicating internal failure in cam sensor. Code p0340 stored. Vehicle repaired.
Motor shuts down without warning, no brakes or power steering and or after engine has been driven it will not start again until is cools. Nhtsa id07v527000 filed. Individual from Nissan acknowledge he was aware but there is no recall at this time? just hope no one is injured or killed with this type of safety issue. Would you suggest I contact state rep. To inquire at this time?.
I have had the car for 9 years and have been locked out the vehicle, the alternator had to be replaced because the car shut down 1 month ago. The car has been shutting down for 4 yrs when the weather changes. I just discovered a whole in the bottom of the driver side ground. Due to rust there is a whole in the bottom of the car.
Tl-the contact owns a 1994 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle shut off. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The failure recurred multiple times intermittently. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure was 230,000. Mf.
Whie driving about 45mph the engine shuts off, steering was very hard . Tried too restart engine, hard to restart. At tiomes the car is hard to start after sitting for awhile. Engine also stumbles,or seems to miss fire while driving. This not the first incident. Had the sensors replaced after the first problem.
While pulling to a stop light, the car engine shut off without warning. I put the car in park, turned off & attempted to restart the car. It wouldn't immediately start. This happens spontaneously in drive-thrus, stoplights and when coming to complete or near complete stops in traffic as well. Most recently I was exiting the interstate exit and the car stopped as a slowed to turn left off the exit, almost resulting in a car rear ending my vehicle at 50 miles per hou. The ses (service engine soon) light is displayed and even after having an oil change and tune up the light is still illuminated, confirming it's an ongoing issue outside of standard maintenance. I've been provided a reference number and dropped the car at Nissan dealership today to diagnose. Im fearful of my safety operating the vehicle at this point.
I am driving a 2005 Nissan Altima se-r with approximately 140,000 miles on it. I was driving on a busy road and coming to a stop for a traffic light, probably at 5 to 10 mph. The engine shut off for no reason. I went to autozone and got the engine code and it is for can shaft position sensor. I browsed internet and this seems a common problem.
I have a 2009 Nissan Altima 2. 5l. I've had the car for about 6 years now, and my mileage is about 81500 km. It has an automatic transmission. After driving for about 5 minutes, I had slowed down to enter a turning lane, and my car stalled in the middle of traffic and everything shut off while driving. I was able to restart the car after. Thank goodness there was no car behind me. I brought my car into Nissan dealership to get it checked out. They told me the crankshaft had to be replaced. I read online that there has been the same issue in multiple Nissan Altimas and that there has been recalls for it. I asked Nissan about it and they said my car year does not qualify under the recall and that it will not be covered under the recall. It will cost me ~$400 plus for parts and labour to get it replaced and reprogrammed. I don't understand why it cannot be covered under the recall. The same problem fully described in the recall is happening to my car and my car is also a Nissan Altima. The recalls were specifically for 2002-2006 years. Mine is 2009. Many other owners have reported the same problem online with their 2009 model. So I don't understand why it is not included in the recall. It is very dangerous to be driving and having your car shut off in the middle of the road. They should make this an official recall for the 2009 model and give everyone a refund for the costs that we have had to pay out of pocket for a recurring problem that Nissan has with their Altimas. January the 8th I was driving from work to home my job is about 30 miles from my home. I was driving no faster than 50-45 miles an hour due to construction in the areas on my way home. There are cameras at the lights in a city 7 miles before my city. If you go over the line a bit they take pictures of your license plate and send you a picture and ticket in the mail with an image of you going over the line indicating you've run a red light. So I pressed on the breaks to slow down as the light turned yellow to assure I did not go over the line. As I slowed down my car jerked I had a 2011 Altima that did the same thing so I was thinking its nothing its how the transmission runs. But within a 12-15 feet distance I stopped as I completely came to a stop my car jerked forward, the brakes locked up, hazard lights on the dash showed up, and the engine shut off. I could not get my car to drive forward it was embarrassing as cars honked for me to drive. I returned my car to Nissan and they updated some recalls. Then stated their system is not showing in issues. This has occurred multiple times and once I was on a hill the car was in drive and it started rolling backwards. I hope the recalls they have fixed resolves the issue I am scared that the car will die and cut off while I am on a busy highway. I hope and pray my issues are resolved and, I do not get crushed in a collision.
I was at a red light and the car just shut down. I had to turn the car off and restart it! this is the second time this has happened. The first time about a year ago. I thought I had done something to make it happen the first the first time. Now I know it is the car. This is serious and scarey! from reading the complaints I see this has happened to others and while they were driving!.
On Friday 14, 2014 approximately8:33 p. M. I was driving down n. Tyron st in charlotte, nc in traffic when my car shut down automatically due to the key not being detected. The key was in the car with me and then a lady miss hitting me in the rear by a inch; due to my car just cutting off indicating my key was not in the car. I tried to start the car again and it would not start back up when I press the start key and the brake at the same time time; it will say the key is not being detected. When I press the automatic start button on the key, the car would start up but when I press the start button and the brake together it cut off and the say thing comes up on the dashboard. Then once it did cut on when I tried to put the car in drive the cuts off and says the key is not being detected. This a safety issues and very dangerous, if the lady behind me was not paying attention it would of been a bad accident. I don't trust my car and I am afraid to drive it again. When I called Nissan they didn't know anything and did not assist me until the following Wednesday 19,2014 and I have been without a car since. No customer service or concern about their customers well-being at all. It been 12 recalls on my vehicle, I have not received any notification of any of them by capital Nissan of wilmington or the regional office.
Was driving 45mph when the engine shut off, steering wheel got stiff, and I had to meneauver to safety. Tried repeatedly to turn on the car, but it didn't work. I came to a complete stop, waited a few minutes, and then the car turned on normally. I have a family of Nissan owners and this was the first incedent of this ever happening. I just want Nissan to help fix this, or risk loosing a valued customer to another car brand. Considering infinity just lost 2 ceo's to other brands makes me (as a consumer) uncertain about this brands future.
Hi, I am the owner of a 2005 Nissan Altima. I have owned this car since 2008. I reviewed service records from 2005 prior to my purchase. There has been an extremely large amount of issues with this vehicle. The most recent of which is the "grey" area of the ecm issue in coordination with famous the camshaft crankshaft fault p0355 & p0131. I'm an engineer and fully understand the mechanics of a vehicle. This sensor was a faulty design from the beginning in which oil could enter inside the sensor, therefore causing a short and disabling the entire vehicle while in motion. This actually happened to me and was a terrifying experience. To fix the issue cheaply, Nissan issued a recall to reprogram the ecm in order to recognize the “faulty” crankshaft sensor part. But in order to save millions of dollars, Nissan would not include the warrantied replacement of the faulty crankshaft sensor design (magnet sensor). Instead, the consumer (myself) would have to pay between $300 & $450 to have the sensor replaced with the “new & improved version”. New and improved means the properly designed version. The initial design should have been recalled but it wasn’t. It doesn’t take an engineer to figure this out but I am one and fully understand the “big picture” of the recall and lack of inclusion of the crankshaft sensor repairs. I am requesting Nissan to cover the full cost of the camshaft & crankshaft sensor & the associated labor. I was put in harm’s way during the initial recall issue in which my car shut off while on the highway. That is a bad enough experience. I am not willing to also pay Nissan $400 to repair the faulty sensor which was a large part of why this occurred in the first place.
While at a red light, the power on my 2006 Nissan Altima shut off without warning. After trying to turn over the ignition several times, the vehicle finally started. I drove it to advance auto where they ran a diagnostic and advised that there were two error codes: p0725 & p0335 (engine speed sensor circuit malfunction & crank shaft position sensor circuit malfunction). Upon calling my mechanic,he advised that this has been a typical problem for this model and that he believed there was a recall. I called and have been advised by Nissan that there was a recall but my VIN wasn't part of the recall. However, Nissan was unable to provide which vehicles were actually part of the recall! there are many unresolved complaints regarding this issue, and I believe that this is a seriously dangerous hazard for drivers. What if the vehicle stopped on an interstate highway while driving at 65 mph? I would like verifiable information on what vehicles this recall covered, as Nissan seems to be deflecting some of their responsibility.
Vehicle shut off in traffic. Was able to start back up and went to park. Hood of vehicle was extremely hot. Multiple times since then I have had issues starting car after having driven it. Car cranks fine in the morning. I have had to leave hood open when I get home to allow engine to cool. Car will start fine again after an hour or two but sometimes taking up to 5 hours. I can feel when the car is about ready to give out as it doesn't accelerate when gas is pushed until you get around 45mph. I have even felt car pull/jerk forward when in stop and go traffic when I let up brake a little bit. I have to keep a good distance from cars ahead of me to ensure I wont hit anyone if it pulls forward.
