My 2008 Nissan Altima master break cylinder needed to be replaced due to a leak after around 60k miles. Before the brake light came on there was a reduced braking capacity and at around 35-40k miles I bought new brake pads due to this loss of fluid thinking the brake pads needed to be replaced. After taking the wheels off I found the pads to be just fine and topped off the fluid. I had noted this many times when I brought it in for an oil change but I was told the brakes were in good shape. During one of the scheduled maintenances' the technician noticed the leaking brake master cylinder.

This car was part of a recall due to a engine cooling defect, they claimed it was fixed. Then all of a sudden last year my heat wouldn't work, instead the air conditioner would just kick on, could not be fixed. I had no heat last winter. I had a friend who was a mechanic look at it this year take a look at it and made a temp fix and I have heat some of the time. He disconnected the a/c for now. This shouldn't happen to a 5 now 6 year old car. Try being in 0 degree weather with the air conditioner blowing at you and being told they don't know whats wrong. This has to be a defect because I have had many 10-15 year old cars and never have had this problem this needs to be addressed to that I can have heat, and now that my a/c is disconnected I would like to have my defroster working, but a small price to pay for not getting frost bite in the frigid temps.

My daughter had complained of the clutch in her car loosing pressure and basically dropping to the floor, interfering with her ability to shift gears, and it sometimes lurching forward on occasions when this happens. In August 2010, she was sitting at a stop light, in first gear with her foot on the clutch when this occurred, causing the car to jump forward into the back of another vehicle. At the time, I felt that her foot may have slipped off the clutch instead, until it lost pressure again a couple of days ago while driving in the mountains. I started researching on the internet and discovered that many people have had the same problem with this vehicle model exhibiting very similar behavior. When this happens in traffic it's dangerous, because it can lurch by itself or you may not be able to shift into gear to move out of the way of oncoming vehicles, like if you're crossing traffic. It also inhibits the ability to downshift when going downhill. Nissan does not recognize this as a manufacturing problem, although many people have badgered the dealerships into replacing the clutch master cylinder and/or slave cylinder under warranty, and Nissan has not had a recall for the problem. Mine is way out of warranty, so my only recourse is to file a formal complaint so that hopefully others will not become involved in an accident as a result of faulty parts or fluid being used in the clutch system. The general consensus is that the master cylinder is allowing air, and/or moisture, to enter the system, but moreover, the dot 3 fluid that is used seems to be the major factor in the failure, where as dot 4 or 5. 1 should be used instead. I have not done any repair to the car since she has it at school, but I will have it fixed as soon as I get it back home.

Letter from congressman tiberi on behalf of constituent regarding Nissan dealership (dot/I#2010-2206) the consumer was unable to secure financing after loosing his job and wanted to return the vehicle to the dealership. However, Nissan stated they would finance the vehicle, even though the consumer stated he no longer has a job. Nissan stated the consumer is still responsible for the loan.
What once was two decent sized rust areas on the floorboard of my Nissan Altima is now two gaping holes in which you can see and put your hand straight through and touch the ground outside if it wasn't for the carpet. I first noticed it when I was getting an oil change and my mechanic pointed out to me. The it all made sense because when ever it rained or snowed badly in my area I would always have wet floors and at first I thought something was leaking but I now know it's the two rust corrosion spot in the floorboard. And some days the odor from the wetness on the carpet is pungent. One is on the driver side and the other is right on the passenger side. I was looking through my warranty and vehicle info books that came with the vehicle and it definitely shows that rust warranty is lifetime or something to that nature I am going to look at it once again and ensure if that information is correct.
I have a 2001 Nissan Altima, that is vibrating a lot when I stop at a traffic light. I came to know it is due to intake manifold gasket problem. So I am requesting a free replacement by Nissan to solve that issue.

I have had several issues with my Nissan 2007 Altima. I bought it brand new with only a few hundred miles. I have had an oil leaking problem ( first it only leaked when parked, got fixed & now leaks when driving only), engine rattle, clicking when driving and not moving(sounds like diesel engine), transmission feels unsmooth sometimes when shifting(since purchased but blamed on cvt transmission & not being used to it), button under brake pedel had to be replaced (car wouldnt start when pushing button and thought it was a battery problem, but button under foot pedel was sticking & wasnt getting contact to start car) belts were rubbing strange, had to be replaced. Tires are too small for car, every speed bump I ground out. Engine hesitates sometimes on highway. Ive had this car worked on and maintained perfectly and I have had alot of issues. I want to get a new car but feel bad selling this to anyone.

Brakes were making a noise for a 2nd time; already replaced once when I told abc Nissan phoenix, az (where purchased) that at speed less then 25 mph my brakes were making a noise. The other day went to brake at 14 mph in very heavy traffic on the freeway during rush hour and brakes locked up and had to use the emergency brake to avoid a collision (mind you I was one car length behind the car in front of me). I am afraid to drive my Nissan Altima now!! this is ridiculous.
On July 8, 2009 took vehicle into Nissan north for service and requested they check the sunroof as well, it had been squeaking when operated - opening and closing. Nissan lubed the track. On March 19, 2010 took vehicle into Nissan north for service and requested they check the windows and sunroof, sunroof still squeaking off and on when operated - opening and closing. Nissan lubed windows for noise. June 2011 took vehicle into Nissan north because sunroof made and awful noise and stopped working in mid-close. The service technician manually had to close the sunroof.
The passenger seat does not always detect an adult sitting in the seat. The "passenger airbag not on" light comes on, sometimes flickers on and off and on again, when an adult is sitting in that seat. The symptoms appear to be identical to campaign 08v521000, but Nissan says my VIN is not effected. The airbag has not deployed, so I have no way to know if it will work or not, but since there is a partial recall underway for this very thing, I believe that the airbag would not deploy in the event of a crash.
To many recalls.
Clutch pedal sinks to the floor board of my Nissan Altima 3. 5 se, the clutch fluid is at full capacity and when the car is in motion at a red light or even at a still motion the clutch goes completely down or out. . . I have had my fluids checked and it is full. . . . This as been happening since I have owned the car at 52,000 miles and continues to have this problem to this very day. . . . . Nissian 3. 5 cars are notorious for this problem, but Nissan fails to recognize this as a recall problem. . . . But everyone is having this problem 3. 5 - 5 (speeds) with this car and this model. . . . . This is a serious safety issue especially when I am in slowed traffic and cannot shift properly. . . This issue needs to seriously be addressed and the problem resolved. . . . Fatalities should not be their reason to enforce this issue.

I received a notice from you guys after the fact. My car dealership(service guy). I went to the repair shop for something else and that's how I found out of the recall. Something could've happen to me or someone else while driving this car without warning. They did reprogram the car module. But I don't think that's the issue the car is still driving as it did before and I hope I did not purchase one of your many cars I've heard of as a lemon. I really need to know my next steps in looking into getting a upgrade on this vehicle because I really love these Altimas. I don't want to have to go to a dealership and go through the whole process again. Please let me know if I can take this car to a Nissan dealership to switch it out I only have 34,399 miles on this car. This was the second recall on this car and I only had this car a year I traded in my galant 01 and that only had 59,732 miles on it so I'm not hard on cars I take care of things. My safety is very important to me I don't want to hurt no one and I don't want no one to hurt me or get killed. I'm bringing this matter to your attention first asking you to also don't put my safety or nobody else in jeopardy. Please respond back to me so this matter can be resolved quickly. Thank you , alfreda thomas.
The Nissan dealership performed a recall on our vehicle on 06/10/2008 for the r0712 ecm program recall and the p5216 recall. Since that work, the service engine soon light has been on in the vehicle which reported a valve problem. Prior to this work being done, the light did not go on. We have had the car serviced 4 times for the the repair of the valve, and now a full diagnosis needs to be done to figure out why the valve keeps shorting out. It appears it is going to be something electrical or with the computer.
I once was told by bob bell Nissan that my vehicle was not on the recall list. And now 2 years later I receive a letter stating that my Nissan 2006 Altima is one of the recall vehicle on the list . And im contacting you for this reason.
The contact owns a 1997 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that his vehicle is defective and has caused head on and side crashes. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle crashes into other vehicles head on. The cause of the crashes were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 106,000.

I am writing to inform you of a safety concern I have with my 2007 Nissan Altima hybrid. The vehicle is equipped with tcs and vdc. On December 13, 2007 we got approximately 6 inches of snow during the day while I was at work. On my way home I approached switzer hill road and saw that it had been sanded so I turned and started up the hill. Approximately 40 yards up the hill the tcs light came on and my car stopped. The front wheels would not turn at all. I was forced to turn around on the hill and come back down. I was very fortunate that no one was coming down the hill at that time or it could have been disastrous for my self and/or others. The owners manual for the vehicle refers to an off switch for both the tcs and vdc systems in case of an emergency. The manufacture has acknowledged that there are times when the system may need to be turned off. My vehicle has neither switch installed so I am unable to turn off either system in the event I am in heavy snow or mud. The non hybrid version of this vehicle has the switch installed as per the owners manual. I have been in contact with the dealer and Nissan both in writing and on the phone. They have stated that the system is working properly because it does apply brake to the wheel that is slipping, and also reduce power from the engine. The problem is that the system works too well. The vehicle has the potential to come to a complete stop and strand the operator. With out the off switch there is no way to move a stuck vehicle. The reason I was given for the switch having not been install is that they thought it might cause the battery to be discharged. As per the manual the system automatically turns back on when the car is turned off. Nissan only sells the hybrid in a limited number of states. Most of which are in the northeast where it does snow.
Gas door does not close properly. The hinges are bent. Have noticed this on many Nissan Altimas. Forcing the door closed, for safety reasons, has caused damage to the body of the vehicle surrounding the gas door. The paint is chipping and will soon begin to rust around this area.
I purchsed a 2005 Nissan Altima in 2006 with 13, 000 miles. Shortly after purchasing it, I began to have issues with a "spongy" clutch. . . Meaning it would become very loose. Often it would have to be pumped and then shoved into gear. I brought the car to a local Nissan dealer complaining of the issues with the clutch. They had it for a day and couldn't find anythng wrong with it. Of course, back then it was still under warranty. The problem never went away. In fact, it became worse until it was finally a safety issue. This clutch issue would occurr at random times in different weather making it very difficult to predict or avoid. Often, I was driving in traffic and unable to shift into the next gear. Eventually, I had to have the master and slave cylinder replaced and the entire clutch system replaced at my own expense. Both were temporary solutions. Again, I had problems with the clutch. My car clutch now sticks to the floor making it impossible to switch gears. This is very dangerous. Often I am struggling to get the car moving in traffic or at turns putting me and my children in danger. Before I pay to have the same issue repaired again, I did some research this time, and this seems to be a common problem among this year and make of Nissan. To me, this is an issue that Nissan needs to address as it is a safety issue for thei consumers. I have records of all repairs beginning with the initail complaint. In my opinion, Nissan needs to be accountable and recall and fix the problems before it results in a fatal accident.
Doors leak water, especially driver's side door - water pools after rain.
My car is a lemon.
I purchased a 2005 Nissan Altima in 2006, and in 2007 I started having trouble with the car just stopping when I was driving, this has happened several times, thank god I have not had any serious injuries because of this. My mechanic stated that this was a problem with something dealing with my engine computer resulting in circuit malfunction with my crankshaft, and engine speed sensor, the problem with the crankshaft resulted from me having to restart my car after just stopping on me. I don't feel like I should have to be responsible for repairs if there has been a recall on the very part of this vechicle that has resulted and lead up to the problem that I am having at this time. I have mentioned this to Nissan and explained the problem that I am having, and seems to me that the company is just trying to get out of their responsibility of the mistake that was made when building this vehicle. The recall letter clearly states that if the dealer fails, or is unable to make the necessary repairs free of charge, I may contact the national consumeraffairs department. Thank you for you time in this matter, and hope that it can be resolved in a timely matter.
The rearview mirror on my 2002 Nissan Altima has fogged up almost completely, leaving about 20 percent still clear, making it almost very confusing and hard to see. Call to Nissan and dealer resulted in "so what" . . . Like its ok for a vehicle that is garaged, only 21142 miles of use, to have a key safety feature go awry. Dealer quoted price for new rearview mirror as "$278 plus tax".
My 2002 Altima is using oil excessively. One quart in 500 -700 miles.
I purchased a new Nissan Altima Apr 16 2006. On June 15 I received a letter from Nissan nth America saying there was a problem with Altimas - they were losing oil too fast. I checked my oil and with 2950 miles it was empty. I towed the car to the dealer, who said the oil was black, the engine was no good, and it needs a new motor. I don't want a new motor, I don't want them to fix the car. I want my money back. The letter stated the problem could cause a fire if unchecked. The dealer has since reported that there was a 3 month period of production of these cars that are affected. Now they want me to have them fill up the oil, drive for another 700 miles and retest the car. This is unacceptable.
I purchased a 2006 2. 5 s Nissan in good faith. I am now being told that as long as the oil changes are always current I will not have a problem with the car blowing up. I am a 25 years old young woman with a child, and I am not willing to take that risk. Of course I will change my oil, but that is not the point. The point is that there is a defect in this car causing it to explode. I tried talking to some one at your car safety commission and was told that until the car blows up, there is nothing that can be done. Well I can't come back from the grave and have it fixed. I can't believe that you all are willing to let someone die before reacting on such a serious problem.
I purchased a new 2006 Nissan Altima on may 27, 2006. I choose Nissan since I was a current owner and enjoyed the performance and reliability of my vehicle. After taking delivery of the vehicle, I read in the paper on June 2, 2006, that Nissan had ordered dealers to discontinue selling certain models of Altimas and sentra se-rs for what was described as an oil consumption problem. The Altimas affected were VIN numbers in the range of 1n4al11d16-c174681 through 1n4al11d16-c231328, which applies to my vehicle.
Arm rest in the front of car has on, several occasions cut my elbow. I feel that if I was driving the cut could cause a distraction resulting in an accident. The result from cutting my elbow is stains of blood on the interior front seats of the car.

A few problems here. I bought this vehicle brand new. From the second I took it off the lot the heat did not work. I bought this vehicle in November, do you think I was happy? so they fixed this problem on a brand new car. Then last year in 2004 my car decided it would not start at all. Turns out it was the starter that went and that had to be replaced on a vehicle that was only a year old. So because of this I had to have my car towed from my driveway to the dealership. Then the latch broke off on the center console inside the vehicle. I am not rough using it at all. Its normal use for this latch yet it broke off after having the car for a year. The problem that I face now is that I cannot get out of my car!!!!!! I arrived home one day and found that the drivers side door would not open from the inside. I am 7 months pregnant and was very scared when I found this problem. What if there is ever a car fire or an accident and I cannot get out? you can open the door from the outside but not the inside. Hyannis Nissan claims its a door latch problem and it had to be replaced. So since my warranty just ran out I have to pay $192. 00 to get this repaired. Are you kidding me? on a 2004 vehicle? talk about unsafe and dangerous!!!!
the last problem is that there is a bad smell coming from the vents in the vehicle upon turning the car on. Not sure what that problem is. Could that be hazardous to my health? not sure but it worries me with the baby I am carrying. I am sick and tired of paying for repairs when the problem is not me its Nissan yet I have to pay for it. And to think I have to pay $433. 00 per month for this vehicle plus pay for repairs that I can not afford. It's not fair and Nissan should have to pay.

Heat dispay, speedometer/odometer/rpm meter fade out intermittently. Ts.
The consumer believes the vehicle had a manufacturing defect.
Rear brake lights failure- both sides- first left then right- replaced went out again soon after. Lights on heater gauges failed. Cigarette lighter "female part" pulls out of dash when you take the lighter out. Passenger door panel came off-keeps the doors from unlocking- tried to fix it and ended up being locked in my car in the rain for an hour. Back passenger side seat belt was jammed. Also odometer is jammed-has never been tampered with. Was bringing my husband to work and I know that it is a 10 mile drive-none of the numbers rolled over. Works when it wants to.
Problems with 2002 Nissan Altima. The consumer was not listed as the owner of the vehicle as the dealer did not change the name. The consumer cannot get assisted with the recalls issued for her vehicle.
I am very unhappy with my 2003 Nissan Altima purchased in March 2003 there has been several times in this past year that my car will not start I brought car to dealer they found 2 recalls both were fixed but my car still has days were it will not start. I went back to dealer they tell me there is nothing they can do till they can find out how to fix problem it has been several months and they still have no idea what is wrong with my car they told me that several people are having same problem and there is nothing they can do right now! if they don't know how to fix my car I should get my money back or they should replace it! I never no from day to day if my car will start.
