Failure Date: 05/18/2023

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle inadvertently decelerated. The contact then stated that the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to coast the vehicle off the roadway. The contact then stated that the check engine warning light intermittently flashed upon start-up then remained illuminated. The contact stated that he allowed the engine time to cool down then restarted the vehicle; however, after the vehicle was restarted, he depressed the accelerator pedal to regain speed but two to three minutes later the vehicle stalled again. The contact stated that occasionally, after the vehicle stalled, the vehicle was jumpstarted, but the negative side of the battery sparked from the cable. Additionally, the contact stated that the abs warning light and the check engine warning illuminated then turned off then the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that he noticed that when the coolant temperature gauge was at an undisclosed temperature, the vehicle failed to restart. In addition, the contact added that upon research he related the failure to the NHTSA campaign number: 10v517000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. 17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2014

Engine dies without warning. While traveling on a busy road, my 2005 Nissan Frontier's engine just stopped running without warning. This is not a new complaint, numerous Nissan owners have complained about this. Nhtsa campaign number: 10v517000 (recall) is/was supposed to address this issue but does not. Nissan and NHTSA have failed to adequately address the safety issue with the above referenced recall. It is an intermittent problem that occurs even after going to Nissan and having the ecm relay within the ipdm replaced per the recall. Nissan and NHTSA have failed to protect the general public by permitting a known safety issue to be masked by an ineffective fix. There is no data available to the public to support niissan's or NHTSA's assertion that a failed steering diode within the ecm relay (located within the ipdm) is the cause of the reported engine stop running incidents. The real fix, and the more costly fix for Nissan, is the replacement of the ecm and possibly the ipdm too. Nissan pooled the wool over the eyes of NHTSA and NHTSA went along with the manufacturer - both entities have failed to protect the consumer from this dangerous condition. I'm lucky in that my 2005 Nissan Frontier has a manual transmission so that when the failure occurs I can more easily maintain speed and control in order to roll the vehicle over to the side of the road. I am a competent vehicle mechanic and engineer by education and training and I have spent untold hours meticulously troubleshooting this problem with my vehicle, and after incorporating the recall fix and numerous other fixes directly related, my vehicle's engine continues to stop running without warning. Nhtsa needs to step up it's watchdog efforts, re-open NHTSA campaign number: 10v517000 and force Nissan to adequately protect the consumer from this engine stops running without warning safety issue.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2013

My 2005 Frontier has never given me any problems until 2 days ago. The transmission started messing up. I came upon a 4 way stop & when I went to cross the road it was like I had it in neutral. I pulled over & stopped then tried to start again & it did the same thing. I've since heard & read about all the problems involving the coolant & transmission. The quotes I have received to fix this are outrageous. Nissan should recall these vehicles because they know they have a problem with them. Not a happy customer anymore.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/27/2013

The coolant is mixing with the transmission fluid. It's a known and widespread defect yet Nissan ignores it. We paid $14,000 for the truck less than a year ago, but Nissan has squeezed us out of any rebate because the truck is over 100,000 miles. Now we have to pay another $7,000 to fix it. That's wrong. They should fix it no matter how old.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2013

Coming home from work the truck started to overheat and the transmission started to skip. I had to turn on the heater to keep the truck from overheating and then the transmission started to engage and disengage. The problem is that the antifreeze is leaking in to the transmission. This is a known problem with Nissan, but they are not fixing the problem. I have three children that are in the truck with me. If that transmission breaks and can cause major problems. Nissan needs to replace the parts.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2013

This issues is with a 2005 Nissan Frontier le. Shuddering at appoximately 40-45 mph (seems to be while shifting) and sometimes between 80-85 mph. The sound and feel of this shuddering is very similiar to driving over highway hazard speed bumps. I initailly thought that road work had been done in certain areas and didn't realize the effect was eminating from my truck. Loss of horse power and miles per gallon are also a symptom of this issue. Some jerking movements in the lower ranges of shifting. During the shuddering it feels as though the tranny is trying to catch the next gear. If I excellorate or decellorate passed the above ranges the shuddering subsides till the next time I cross those ranges. This description is of the final symptoms at their very worst for my individual experience, leading up to this points has been gradual signs of the same issues beginning at the 50k-60k milage ranges. Even though, to date, Nissan corporate has known of this defect their dealerships/service depts seemed to be completely unaware of the issue till I was well passed the extended warranty (class action lawsuit impossed). At that point they became very informative of the problem and its symptoms. On several occassions (months if not yrs ago) I had mentioned these symptoms and was told fluids were checked and ok'd by techs and service reps, but reading into the issue now I have learned it is very easy to spot if you truely do know what you are looking for or actually check the fluids as I suspect they never did.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2005

Purchased a 05 Frontier cc 4x4 truck from a local dealership. 2 weeks I had the truck roughly the 15 of July, I had put a 30 to 40 pound stone in the back of my truck which has the rhino bed liner, rock dent in the ribs of the box and chipped the rhino bed lining. Took it to the dealership, explained in detail but nothing done as of yet. Yet another person had the same problem I was told by the service department and got a new box. Problems with the drivers side window rattling, the rear end squeaking, and the rear. I took the truck in again, they took it in said they fixed the problems with the window and the rear end squeaking. Took truck home and was doing the same thing. Took back again for same problem plus rear differential and engine brake. Said they fixed window (not true again), had to replace the bushings in the rear(were bad), and needed a new rear differential engine brake they said they had to contact someone else about to find out problem(not fixed to date) took truck in again had it 3 days said was fixed. I took the truck home rear differential was doing exact same thing but now rear was getting hot. Called Monday morning to tell them it was doing exact same thing and the rear was getting hot and service department manger got pissed off was yelling. Now having trouble with the steering in the front , not right. Tried to get problem worked out with dealership. Had to finally call Nissan complaint center. Waited a week for response and finally had call from consumer affairs with no resolution. Told me they could not do nothing except send to general manager plus file complaint with bbb auto which, cost $200, no guarantee. Dealership service department also did not give me copies of service work done and refuses to do so. Consumer affairs only told me they can get them and it will help their case. Called another dealership had them pull up work done on truck and none was filed. I was sold a lemon Nissan don't want to deal with. I smell a lawsuit!.
