4 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 06/04/2019

We had just had our oil changed in our Nissan Frontier and had a general check of the vehicle before driving it on a vacation to another state. Everything was in perfect working order. We purchased this vehicle new and it has always been well-maintained. It has 118,000 miles. While driving home less than a week after we left, we noticed that the transmission began slipping and coolant was suddenly leaking from the truck. We also noticed a pink or orange fluid mixed with the coolant. We were >3 hours away from home when this happened. The transmission slippage got worse as we were driving. We were luckily able to make it home and took our vehicle in for service. We found out that this truck has the same problem as other Nissans--coolant mixed with the transmission fluid, causing the transmission to suddenly fail. Now the vehicle is not driveable and were are suddenly left with a very big cost to replace the transmission. This sudden failure of the transmission without any warning is extremely unsafe. We could have been stranded far from home or worse, the transmission could have failed while we were driving, causing an accident. I know that Nissan has known about this problem since 2007 and has failed to issue a recall to fix it and failed to change the design of later vehicles. We had no idea that this was a known problem with our vehicle until it happened to us. Since everything was in perfect working order when we left, we had no reason to suspect that in less than a week, our vehicle would become undriveable.

5 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 02/02/2019

On 2/2/2019, I took my vehicle to aamco transmissions to have my transmission checked, because prior to this date I was experiencing alot of jerking and other issues, especially on the highway. After aamco techs looked over my transmission, I was contacted & informed that I had a defective radiator that had contaminated my transmission, due to the radiator leaking coolant into my transmission. I was also informed that Nissan had a lawsuit regarding this very problem, which I was in shock, since no one had ever advised me through mail, email, or even word of mouth. My Frontier is a 2006, but I purchased the vehicle in may of 2007, & on 2/2/2019, my Frontier only had 80,034 miles on it. I'm disabled, & I need my vehicle for doctor appts, & for my two children as well. The most frustrating part of it all is, I take my Frontier to the local Nissan to have them do the oil changes & tire rotations whenever its due, & they always check all of my fluids at the same time. In addition, this issue arouse in 2006 before I purchased the Frontier, but nothing was ever conveyed to me about any issues with this particular year or model. Since there were 3-4 models affected between 2005 thru 2010. I had aamco replace the radiator & transmission, which cost me $4,000. 00, & my Frontier only had 80,000 miles on it, I've never heard or even experienced such an issue, especially with such low mileage before! I even reached out to Nissan corporate office, but they did not feel responsible for the $1,500. 00, which they are because they are the ones that put defective radiators into their products, but did not send out any notifications about this potential problem that a owner could have. My family or myself could've easily been hurt because of their negligence in not notifying consumers/owners. Do they not care about their customers, or is it just about the all mighty dollar!!.

6 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

7 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 06/13/2018

I own a 2006 Nissan Frontier and after doing research I found the article about several recalls for 2005-2010 models. The persons involved reported the same symptoms we are experiencing such as transmission fluid leaking into the radiator coolant spontaneously and now transmission failure while towing a pop up camper that is 3200 lbs which is within the towing range reportedlyfor this vehicle. I got an extended warranty and they report they will only cover up to $1900 and my mechanic states the total costs are $4800. I am very concerned my vehicle is doing the same. Can anyone help us?.

8 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 03/25/2018

I have a apparently common problem which is radiator transmission cross contamination apparently with Nissan Frontiers and xterras from about 05-2010 and the problem is they used a radiator with a built in transmission cooler but there's a seal or area where it fails and the two fluids mix resulting in a strawberry milkshake appearance and when this happens the transmission will likely fail at any point I've personally had problems that were intermittent over the last few weeks with trouble shifting and a shuddering/rumbling which occurs while driving in all weather and road conditions plus is very noticeable while going from a stop to start moving turns out to be radiator fluid leaking into the transmission my truck has 99,000 miles on it and has started having problems just now which according to other accounts on multiple forums about this particular problem is a little later than most but I have a short commute to work and have another car I use. So perhaps it was that. But the issues are getting worse and it's a shame that the company knew of the problem and did nothing to remedy it. Especially as it affects many years and models of cars.

12 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 05/14/2017

While driving on a paved state highway at aprx 50mph, the vehicle slowed down and rpm's went up. Much like the transmission had downshifted. This is an automatic trans. Couldn't manually get it back to normal by downshifting or putting it into neutral. Service engine soon light was now lit. Pulled over, stopped and turned off engine. Under the hood there was no obvious sign of leaking, broken belts or smoke. Restarted the truck and drove home aprx 10 miles with no problem, but service engine soon light still on. Drove it the next day to autozone (5miles total) and showed codes p1774 and p0717. Researching the codes led me to all the transmission replacement problems due to a failure of the trans fluid cooler inside the radiator which mixes that oil with coolant and destroys components inside the transmission and requires replacement. Now I have to figure what to do facing a $6000 repair bill on a $10000 vehicle. This had me losing speed in a traffic situation that could have been dangerous and stranding us as an elderly couple with a disabled person in the arizona desert. Money aside, it's pretty sad to find out that the NHTSA and Nissan have known about this problem for years and neither has taken any proactive steps to inform or warn the owners. Just a lot of collecting info and waiting for the vehicles to be carted off as junk and the problem swept under the rug. Thanks a lot for stalling for years and doing nothing. Safety doesn't just pertain to how many people died! not exactly the right thing to do!.

Purchased this vehicle in Jan of 2017 as a used truck. Had less than 2 mos. The transmission has failed. As we took it to our mechanic for repair, we discovered Nissan has had this issue on several of their models. The radiator fluid had leaked into the transmission and ruined the transmission.

16 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 11/26/2016

Our 07 Nissan Frontier was being driven to be inspected for registration when, at a stop light, it just turned off and would not start. We had it towed to a mechanic. He had to send it to the local Nissan dealership for the computer to be replaced and reprogrammed. According to this mechanic, the leak from the radiator has mixed with transmission fluid in the transmission causing all these components to fail and need replacing. This is unacceptable!!.

17 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 11/15/2016

I have a 2007 Nissan Frontier with 68,000 miles. No major issues until now. Started having a transmission noise during acceleration. 10/2016, took my truck to my local auto mechanic and found transmission fluid low. No signs of leaks. Also check coolent and no problems seen. 11/5/16 I head a pop and saw fluid running out of coolent overflow. Transmission stated slipping. 11/9/16 took truck to my local auto repair shop and they see the coolent is mixed with oil. On 11/15/16 per my local Nissan dealer I have a crack in my trans coolent system which is mixing transmission and coolent fluid. In result damaged my transmission and requires replacement. He had ask me to call Nissan for addition assistance. I was also told by my local Nissan dealer that this problem could have been resolved by a radiator replacement. On 11/9/2016 I contacted Nissanusa and I was hung up on twice. I finally got in touch with a decent person the set me up with a case. I asked for a description of the details of the warranty and they said it would be emailed. 11/15/2016, I'm still waiting for that email. I called again after getting one rude person and was put on hold then disconnected. I called back asking for financial assistance. I should be getting a call tomorrow. Also, I was told about the issue a year or two ago by another Nissan owner. When I contacted my local dealer to acquire about the problem and aware to they knew nothing about it. Also, they did not have info of any preventive measures the could prevent this problem. If this was a know issue the we should have been notified by Nissan.

18 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2005 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 08/16/2016

Transmission failure due to radiator leaking coolant into transmission fluid. I replaced the radiator a year prior to prevent this problem from happening at the strong recommendation of the dealerships service department and still the problem occurred.

19 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2005 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 06/15/2016

Radiator leaking fluid into transmission . Notices slight shutter at high speed, approximately 65 mph, in the transmission. Vehicle was checked by dealer at 89,000 miles without any issue at that time . Dealer would not replace radiator due to no problem at that time. Vehicle is at 112000 and now radiator fails. Nissan would not cover due to out of extended warranty. Faulty designed system and potential safety hazard in my opinion. Vehicle at my independent mechanic for new radiator and transmission flush out to see if it will fix problem. Major expense for poor design passed onto customer. I will not spend any more money with Nissan.

22 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 05/09/2016

Entering 4 lane highway with 70 mph traffic. Kicked Frontier into passing gear to enter ongoing traffic. Frontier stalled and slowed instead of increasing speed. Transmission slippage and jerking caused motor to increase rpms. I had to move my truck over to right of paved lane and onto pulloff area in order to prevent accident. I was told at the Nissan dealership that I had transmission damage due to radiator fluid leaking into transmission . It cost me $2500 to repair a problem that could have cost lives. I understand this was a problem that was not recalled by Nissan.

25 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 04/07/2016

According to the mechanic, the transmission coolant reservoir (which is connected to the radiator) collapsed causing water, antifreeze and transmission fluid to mix. These fluids then made their way into the radiator, transmission and coolant reservoir. This, in turn, caused extensive damage to my transmission. My transmission then required replacement/rebuild. The first possible sign of the problem was rough automatic shifting of the vehicle. I then noticed a leak of transmission fluid from the front passenger side of the vehicle (which was parked in my driveway). This was followed by a loss of power/drivability.

26 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2007 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 03/24/2016

Nissan is aware of leaking radiators and not until a class action lawsuit was filed they did not take responsibility and only help pay with a copay if the vehicle is less then 90,000 miles. Which is ridiculous because it should it be unlimited mileage for that type of repair. Radiator leaked coolant fluid into transmission and corroded and broke seals on transmission caused it to brake and have car shut down.

27 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2005 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 02/13/2016

In 2013 I received a notice of class action about a Nissan vehicles related to possible radiator fluid leak into the transmission due a defect that permits cross-contamination of engine coolant and transmission fluid. It did not include vehicles before it happens. In 2013, I went to a authorized Nissan dealer to check if my radiator can be affected but they told me that in that moment the radiator was working well without given me the option of replacing it to prevent damages. At the time I was under the warranty limits, less than 10 years and less than 100,000 miles. Now in February 13, 2016 my vehicle began to have problems to move , had a harsh shift , it slowed down and did not drive at times. I clearly saw a transmission problem. I called united Nissan service for a diagnose . They check my vehicle and told me that my radiator leaked fluid into the transmission due the radiator defect. I couldn't understand why this class action did not include vehicles that will face this damage in a future . It did not include prevention of damages. Nissan did not released a recall for the faulty radiator. I know I am now outside the warranty limits, but at the time when I visited Nissan service to prevent this no one provided my help or information that would help in prevent such damage. The price for a new transmission is 6,000 dlls. The total cost of repair all goes up 9,000 dlls. Also I received a rude customer service by the service agents of Nissan service . Now I have to cover these costs by myself. My son was driven the vehicle when this happen. The good thing is that the failure occurred while he was driven on the freeway making it so dangerous. What will happen with people like us? the legal case was closed in 2012 but Nissan still having vehicles suffering this this damage . This is a negligence that pass the financial burden to consumers.

33 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem of the 2010 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 07/26/2015

Transmission has been slipping. Happens frequently when stopped at a red light, stop sign. . . When time to go car does not move. Complained to Nissan dealer in 2014 and they suggested changing the fluid. . . Could not find any problems. Fluid was changed and I am still having problems. Will be taking it to another dealer this week. I understand Nissan has had major issues with coolant leaking into transmission as I had a 2005 Nissan Frontier and this is what happened to me. Nissan would not compensate me as my mileage was 100+k. When I treaded in my 2005 for a 2010 I was assured that Nissan had fixed the defect. Here we go again. . . I should have known better!.
