The p0101 code has been going on and off of this car since purchase (3 years) the maf sensor has been replaced twice and the check engine light comes back on after just a few days each time. This poses a safety risk because the car stops at stop lights and turns off, the car shakes at idle, the car refuses to accelerate risking pulling out in front of another car without being able to accelerate. The check engine light comes on and off and the traction control light as well, its so random and the only fix is to "change the sensor" which does not fix it because it happens again immediately after. Its dangerous and needs an actual fix.

The likely failed component is the electronic steering column lock (escl). Associated systems include the steering column, bcm, and eps motor. Yes, the vehicle and component are available for inspection upon request (owner: [xxx] , [xxx] ). The safety of the owner and other drivers was put at risk by the sudden, unpredictable loss of steering control (locking mid-turn). This makes it impossible to safely navigate curves or avoid hazards, leading to a high risk of a severe crash, injury, or fatality. The no-start condition also strands the owner. Unknown. The report only states that the symptoms strongly align with an escl failure based on a diagnostic summary, but does not explicitly confirm a dealer or independent service center has reproduced or confirmed the specific escl component failure. Unknown. The report does not mention inspection by the manufacturer (Nissan), police, or insurance representatives. The main warning symptom is the intermittent brake warning light (randomly turning on and off while driving, with no clear cause). The problems have been ongoing for the past year and appear to be worsened by the extreme heat in [xxx] . The vehicle generally does not display helpful diagnostic codes despite serious failures. The incident involves multiple, recurring, safety-critical failures in a 2021 Nissan Kicks, including the catastrophic loss of steering function while driving. The core issue is assessed to be a malfunctioning electronic steering column lock (escl). This failure causes the steering wheel to jam/lock, intermittent no-start conditions, and electrical inconsistencies (random brake light/lack of diagnostic codes). These failures are beyond the driver's control, unpredictable, and create an extreme safety hazard, rendering the vehicle unsafe to operate. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The dash board lights up and the check engine light comes. It’s hard to accelerate or reverse and its idles high. I have replaced coils, spark plugs, censors and it’s costs me thousands of dollars and it’s still not fixed.

My vehicle has a serious safety defect involving the braking system and related electronic controls. The vehicle is available for inspection at any time. The main failure is sudden, unintended braking without me pressing the pedal. On November 5, 2025, around 6:20 p. M. , the vehicle brake-checked in traffic and almost caused a rear-end collision. This continues to put my safety and the safety of others at risk every time I drive, but I have no other transportation for work. Along with the sudden braking, the car has loud crunching and dragging noises when braking or beginning to move, difficulty shifting between drive, reverse, and park, and intermittent warning lights. Warning lights have appeared several times, and on one occasion stayed on long enough for me to bring the vehicle in. These symptoms first began in July 2025 and have continued ever since. The problems have been repeatedly reproduced by me and reported to the dealer. Although the dealership has sometimes claimed they could not find a problem, they later acknowledged noises and even suggested “better brakes,” which they said I would have to pay for despite my warranty and extended warranty. I have recordings of the noises and a voicemail from a service advisor. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership four times on July 15–16, August 6–9, August 19–22, and September 26, 2025, and also reviewed by Nissan north America consumer affairs. No police or insurance inspections have been done. Even after repeated attempts, the manufacturer and dealer have not resolved the safety issues. The sudden braking, shifting problems, noises, and warning lights make the vehicle unreliable and dangerous. I am afraid to drive it, and I am requesting an NHTSA investigation because these defects create a clear risk of a crash and have not been properly addressed by Nissan.

The engine harness and electrical wiring have caused the entire vehicle to lose signal. This issue has cause my. Car to stall and not accelerate while driving. Entire lights on dashboard come one and vehicle is unable to accerlerate. Vehicle is currently at the dealer and that is the tecnicians conclusion. No signs before aside from dashboard lights turning on. Vehicle was taken to dmv soon after.
Check engine light came on, displaying code p0101, front collision malfunction came on. Replaced maf sensor for code p0101. The car then displayed the same lights, check engine light and aeb light and slip indicator light. My car then stalled while at a red light.
P0101 code keep coming back after so many repairs plus all lights are on like lane assist front collision prevention rear collision detection and slippery road it will reset after turning off and on.
I purchased the used vehicle in March and I have had an intermittent check engine light (p0101 code), my forward collision warning lights and traction control lights come on and my car brakes like I was in an emergency braking situation. Since the second day of owning the car. I've had it in the shop more than 5 times. They have not found the issue. I've been told there is nothing wrong so even with my extended warranty I'm unable to have this issue repaired. All these lights come on together and leave together. This is dangerous because stopping suddenly on the highway could result in me getting killed. I haven't found a TSB or recall but according to multiple Nissan forums this is happening to hundreds of 2019 -2021 Kicks owners. This happened again yesterday and scared me. I can't afford another car right now. I just want this one to be repaired properly before it's too late. This morning no lights or check engine light present.
The car gives me warning signals. All the warnings display on my screen and then the car doesn’t advance. It has happened several times and I’ve been put in danger since I live in san antonio TX and there’s always traffic. I’ve called the dealer and they just tell that there’s no recalls for that vehicle. A lady that works at the same company I do has had the save issue. I searched online and many others are having the same issue. Also I purchased a code scanner which tells me it’s the mass air flow sensor and I replaced it but the issue persists. I put yesterday’s date’s for the incident but it has also happened to me at least 4 times before please assist. My email is [xxx] . My name is [xxx] and my VIN number [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I started braking and the red "brake" started intermittently shining. Later on, the warning, front collision, and traction control lights suddenly turned on. I cannot use cruise control now either. A quick look online shows this to be a widespread issue across many Nissan Kicks, but the dealership is saying that the issue only applies to some models of Kicks, not mine. But my issue is identical to the one people online have said applied to theirs and was covered, so I think it is a more widespread issue than Nissan is letting on/admitting. This is dangerous as these systems are last-resort braking systems for emergencies, so when they are supposed to engage is precisely when you need them most (to prevent a deadly crash). Additionally, there is now a second instance of one of the side cameras going out. The first one happened at roughly ~20k miles, and now the other side at ~36k miles. This is dangerous since these cameras feed into the lane keeping and blind spot systems, as well as the parking system.
The front crash warning will come on and then the car will just cut off. This has happened multiple times while driving. It’s dangerous because it happens without any warning and there is nothing going on with traffic to trigger the warning light.
While driving the car seems to be stalling, slowing down while I’m driving. The car feels like it doesn’t want to go up to a fast speed on the highway. I feel uncomfortable and unsafe that the car will stop instantly on the highway and cause me to crash. So that is why I’m reporting this because it’s unsafe. Secondly the left driver side window goes up in down while I’m driving. This also makes me feel uncomfortable while driving.
Frequently we get error p0101 and the car loses power. It says "mass or volume air flow, a circuit range/poerformance error. For us that means the car loses power, limps along or jerks suddenly and the lights flash, this can happen at any time. Happens about one or twice a month at very random times, not dependant on the weather. We have changed the maf sensor as instructed but this still happens and it quite dangerous when driving or pulling away from a stop.
I went to have car checked and mechanic said it was a recall and the problem is an unstable electrical connection within the sensor that measures the force the driver applies to the steering wheel during turns and can result in the power steering feature being disabled. I can have inspection done at any time. I drive my family to work and my infant grandson around. I don’t want to have an accident or put my family at risk. Other vehicles that were of the same yr and make have been recalled but mine was made in a different country so it has not been recalled as of yet but I need answers due to the risk factor of driving this vehicle.
It is hard to explain what specific component put my safety at risk. But my car is suffering from unintended acceleration and unintended deceleration, which I've been told is related to my engine/abs actuator, but Nissan is doing "further investigation" after holding my car for a month and clearing it for use. When I've been driving on the highway my car will decelerate at rapid speed, even with my entire gas pedal on the floor, and then rapidly accelerate when my foot is not on the gas. My inability to control my vehicle in those instances led to near collisions and instances of me getting my car towed. Nissan finally accepted there was an issue with my car and held it for over a month while they waited for a part to come in. They then returned it to me and said it cleared testing. Within an hour of operating the car the same thing happened again while I was on the highway, and I almost was hit from behind after going from 65 miles an hour to 40 and back up to 50+ without any warning. Then I pulled to the side and all my lights flashed including my engine and steering lights. This is a manufacturer issue that other drivers have experienced and without a recall I worry about other drivers on the road who are not as lucky as me and aren't able to pull to safety while their car is speeding and breaking without their control.
I’ve been going in the dealership a lot regarding this car since I’ve purchase the car on 10/09 I was charged 165. 00 to get diagnosed test done on car after diagnosed service informed me to get electrical intake valve and emc unit, emc bracket and audio unit replaced from Nissan service in grand blanc michigan, dealership quoted me close to $5,561 to all this electrical work fixed, general manager king in grand blanc michigan , called the police on me at his dealership yesterday ,after I tried to explain this to him. He only offered me to call customer service and $500 off I am army veteran who pays her car payment on time every month which is a $534. 00 a month these people are very , unprofessional, inconsiderate and rude , my radio has not work since 08/2023, due to electrical and wiring issues emc unit emc bracket , I purchase the car in [xxx], my payoff balance is $22,000 please help car battery is draining almost everyday because of these electrical issues every six months im replacing battery due to electrical issues, have to take portable battery jump in my car just to in case car shuts down. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The mass air flow (maf) sensor malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to idle roughly, stall unexpectedly, and trigger continuous beeping. During the failure, the power steering locked, making it extremely difficult to steer and creating a serious safety hazard for myself and others on the road. The issue was reproduced and confirmed by a service center, and the sensor was replaced by a Nissan dealership with the system reset/rebooted. However, despite this repair, the vehicle has again begun experiencing the same symptoms, including rough idling, stalling, beeping, and loss of steering control. The recurrence of this problem after dealership repair indicates that the issue may extend beyond a single component and presents an ongoing safety concern. The vehicle and repair records remain available for inspection upon request.
I was coming off the highway as soon as I got to stop my car shut off. I had to restart my car again. This is about the fifth time it did it. I have sent it to the dealership and they cannot find nothing wrong with it.
I was driving at a speed of 32 no other cars around. All of a sudden I hear some buzzing and feel vibration, and I see a hazard icon in the dash flashing. It was a white triangle outlined in red with a red exclamation mark inside of the triangle. The car slowed dramatically almost stopping as the alarm or buzzing sounded. Then all at once the alarm stopped and the car resumed speed.
While driving on a sunny day out of nowhere, no car around me and the car symbol for slippery road, front end collision and see owner’s manual appeared. After stopping at a red light when it was time to turn the car stalled. Although I was pressing the gas the car was barely moving then it “jumped forward” and started driving normally again. I took it to the dealership, they ran a test said the only issue was the battery. Informed them I replaced the battery less than 1 month ago. They said that was the issue so I purchased a new battery from them. 2 weeks later driving home in the rain, the same things happened again. The same symbols and warning. Again I was not in a collision or even near anyone when it came on. I was driving on the highway. When I arrived home I tried to back up into my driveway and the car stalled, although I was pressing the gas the car would not move. I had to turn off the car to be able to finish reversing the car. After researching online it seems to be a wide issue with the Nissan Kicks with the dealership saying do one thing or another but yet the problem persists. I am lucky that the moments it stalled there were no heavy traffic.
The contact owns a 2025 Nissan Kicks. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 25v324000 (back over prevention); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the rearview camera displayed a black screen. In addition, the instrument panel was black. The failure obstructed the driver's visibility, preventing the driver from safely operating the vehicle. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The regional specialist for Nissan reached out to the contact and informed the contact that the part was not yet available. The contact was advised to call local dealers for an availability to perform the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
The emergency collision light came on my vehicle, then traction light, car stalled and wouldn't accelerate. This issue put me at risk to be rear ended at 55 mph. Took it to the dealer and was diagnosed as the mass air flow sensor. I've read about 100 articles of other owners experiencing this repetitively.
On[xxx] exactly one week after vehicle was purchased the car began stalling at 55 mph. The slip indicator lights and aeb lights came on the dash and I lost all acceleration. The vehicle became impossible to move I had to shut it off and restart it. The lights went off and I made it home, still with decreased acceleration. I have a [xxx] and do not feel safe with a vehicle that loses acceleration and then won't move on a highway. That's how you get rear ended. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer 4/5/25 and I have not heard back from them. After further research and reading forums of other 2019 Kicks owners this is a recurring issue that desperately needs to be recalled. The radio randomly reboots to Nissan screen. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
My car has repeatedly stalled while in motion. •no warning lights appear on the dashboard before or after stalling. •the most recent incident occurred in front of a moving car, putting you and your family at risk. •luckily, no one was injured, but this continues to be a serious safety hazard. •this problem has happened before, meaning it is a recurring mechanical defect. I’ve reported this issue to Nissan, but they are refusing to acknowledge it. •you have not received any recall notices despite this being a major safety concern. •Nissan has not provided a fix or meaningful response regarding the stalling issue. There have been no dashboard warning lights to indicate when something is wrong. •the car has had multiple mechanical issues, but you haven’t received proper support from Nissan. •Nissan has been unresponsive or dismissive about the recurring defects.
The transmission control module or, (tcm), is the system that failed and or malfunctioned and it is available for inspection upon request of the company. The safety of myself and my husband was put at risk when this component failed and the vehicle would not move forward in traffic. Yes the problem has been reproduced and confirmed, not by a dealer, but by myself. No the component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance, or other representatives with the Nissan CO. . Yes there were warning lamps such as the check engine light no messages and no other symptoms of the problem prior to its failure. The issue first appeared last week of February 2025 so, from my perspective, just last week. 02/25/2025 was date of incident.
January 15, 2025 (~1,000 miles): infotainment system was black at startup. Vehicle was beeping and flashing warning/service lights. System would not shut off. This occurred three times within the first week. I contacted the selling dealer for guidance. No documentation was provided for that initial report. • I was unable to bring the vehicle in immediately due to a family medical emergency but continued reporting the issue. • prior to February 7, 2025: I contacted deery Nissan regarding the ongoing infotainment malfunction and water leaking through the rear hatch during a car wash. • February 7, 2025 (2,230 miles): rear hatch seal replaced. Electrical repairs performed on infotainment system. • March 24–28, 2025: infotainment malfunction reported again. Diagnostics and software check performed. • September 2025: front bumper paint peeling. Repainted at local repair shop. Paint also peeling from steering wheel Nissan emblem. • January 16, 2026: infotainment malfunction reported again. • January 20, 2026: dealer unable to duplicate. • January 27, 2026: both screens malfunctioning. I recorded video and sent to dealership. • February 4, 2026: vehicle inspected again. Dealer stated unable to duplicate. • February 11, 2026: additional video sent, including VIN visible. I also brought vehicle in so dealership could record the malfunction themselves. • February 20, 2026: still no resolution. I have an appointment to speak to the dtsm from Nissan. Paint peeled on my front bumper and Nissan logo on my steering wheel.
