Very dangerous to continue to use this car in an urban setting. Buyback was denied and told to wait for a fix. No fix yet! I can't get out of philadelphia in this car. On Saturday, June 20, I was driving my son to soccer. We stopped at a stoplight. When the light turned green, I pressed the accelerator and we went forward. However, when I took my foot off the accelerator, the car continued to accelerate. Luckily it slowed down when I pushed on the break. But every time I took my foot off the break the car continued to accelerate. I did not have a good place to pull over to the side. So at the next stop light, I turned the car completely off. I turned it back on again, but the same thing happened. I arrived at the soccer field and parked the car for the remainder of the day, which was several hours. It did not do that again that evening. The other thing that has happened a couple of times prior to the incident and since is, the Nissan panel display that lights up when you turn the car on turned completely off and on again several times at random while I was driving. Usually the panel stays with eliminated and plays audio or shows a map. It turned itself completely off to black and then back on again as if the car was starting up again. On Tuesday, I took the car to Nissan because I had called the problem in over the weekend, but their service center was not open. They were unable to replicate the problem. However, on my way to Nissan, the accelerator again pressed forward independently of my actions and the car accelerated without warning. This is very scary and felt extremely dangerous. I told the technicians that Nissan that the problem appeared similar to a recall that had been in place a few years ago. But they said that unless they could replicate the problem, they weren’t able to do anything about it. I was very unsatisfied with that because it seemed like a pretty dangerous situation.

"2022 Nissan Leaf 40 kwh (VIN: [xxx], ~41,570 miles) lost motive power at highway speed on [xxx]. Vehicle entered turtle mode and shifted into neutral while traveling on the freeway, requiring me to coast to an off-ramp (I was completely unable to use the accelerator nor move the car into park). Vehicle was inoperable and required towing. This followed a similar incident on [xxx], where the vehicle entered turtle mode 7 miles from home despite showing 120 miles of indicated range. Leafspy diagnostics confirm 8 weak battery cells with a 261 mv spread. Open recall NHTSA 25v-655 is unresolved. This is a safety defect, not normal degradation. I am attaching photos that show significant variance in mileage--at one point, I had 95 miles, and within 7 miles, it had gone to 0 miles and after another 8 miles, it entered turtle mode. 3 miles after that, the car essentially shut off and went into neutral. The manufacturer-installed 40kwh replacement battery has suffered an internal high-voltage isolation short to the vehicle chassis (codes p0aa6/p31e7), creating an immediate fire and shock hazard. The component failed just 2 years after installation in 2024. Nissan is refusing to repair this severe safety defect because the vehicle's original body frame is past its warranty window.

I want to be clear about why I opened this case. Per Nissan’s own recall documents, the software update does not repair the defective battery cells, it only detects the issue and may disable the vehicle to prevent a thermal event. Level 3 charging remains unusable, and the underlying defect is still present. Because of this, I am requesting a repurchase or a replacement vehicle. If they say the software will “fully correct the condition”.
Nhtsa 24v-700 was announced September 2024. It is now January 2026 without a fix nor can I fast charge, preventing me from using this car for daily travel. What is NHTSA’s recommendation for this recall? Nissan keeps extending the date for a fix.

Manufacturer recall number r24b2 - no remedy available for more than a year! I am the original owner of my 2019 Nissan Leaf sl in California but have been unable to use my car for traveling due to the fast charge port recall. I have performed all the services and the recalls at the local Nissan dealer but there is still no remedy for the fast charge issue. As per the purchase agreement with Nissan, I should be able to use fast chargers without limitation but the lack of ability to use the fast charge port has severely hampered my ability to use the vehicle to travel even within my state. Nissan has promised a fix for more than a year but has failed to deliver.

*high voltage battery defect/failure - this is what was believed to be the issue when it was towed to the dealership. What is left of it is available for inspection at the dealership for now, however the insurance may take it to a salvage yard since the fire department finished their investigation. *while at the dealership after they spent the day trying to recreate what happened they parked it and planned to try again the next day, then someone walked by and saw smoke coming from the car and called 911. They called it a thermal runaway and it burned for hours before being moved to a safer, emptier lot where it was covered in thousands of pounds of sand. The night before the mileage range dropped roughly 70%, unaware of the recall in our mail that hadn't been opened we stopped to try to charge so we could get home. Thankfully none of the chargers worked since the recall was for a potential fire if plugged into a level 3 charger. We tried to drive home only to end up on the side of the road in total system failure. Police sent incident management to get us to safety. If we had made it home we are told this could have caught our home on fire and would likely have blown up our house and taken neighbors houses out as well. It could hurt more people or structures while they tried to recreate the problem. I understand the dealership had $20k in damages from the fire on top of which my car is clearly a total loss. Homes & businesses nearby had to be evacuated. , what is left of the car has been inspected by the county fire marshall, insurance CO. Police were called, but no investigation. When I called consumer affairs at Nissan, I spoke to 3 different people who said there was nothing they could do. Had one other time 3 weeks earlier that the range dropped significant, we got home plugged it in and it seemed fine. The only warnings said we were low on miles and to stop to charge which would have made things worse, could have killed us if they had worked.
On November 5, 2025 our 2020 Nissan Leaf (42,701 miles) experienced rapid loss of battery capacity under normal driving/temperatures (80f. ) vehicle defaulted to "turtle mode" temporarily, an unsafe condition. Were able to replicate condition on subsequent days. Took vehicle to cedar park Nissan for evaluation. Technicians concluded that the traction battery had one or more defective cells and recommended battery pack replacement. Vehicle is inoperable. Started complaint with Nissan customer assistance. Dealer and Nissan refused use of a loaner vehicle, despite offering no timeline on repairing/replacing the battery pack. The defect in our vehicle's battery cells may lie in the battery chemistry and be related to issues associated with damage from DC fast charging (recall 24v-700. ) our vehicle has seen little or no fast charging, being charged mostly on level 1 or level 2.
Nissan has a safety recall with no resolution. You cannot travel in this vehicle if you cannot use a fast charger. I have family emergency. I called Nissan consumer affairs. Case xxx. Customer service said maybe a loaner car can be an option. Marshay a consumer affairs representative said this is not an option. There is nothing they can do. There is no resolution at this time or eta. Nissan should take all of these cars back if they are this dangerous and they don't know how to fix. Nissan mechanics dont know what to say and just refer you to Nissan comsumer affairs who dont have an answer. Slow charging is 8 hours or more, you can't go anywhere. Charging is 30 to 45 minutes at each station even if is called fast charging.
Car is under a recall-no level 3 charging due to risk of fire since October of 2025 with no remedy in place. The car is not able to be used as advertized-cannot travel outside of 200 miles from my home as level 3 charging is not possible and level 2 charging not feasible for travelling. Of note-the battery in my car is a new battery -it was replaced in December of 2025 due to repeated prior failures -including suddenly slowing down drastically on highway which was a safety hazard. Aftee repeated efforts to get this addressed Nissan agreed to replace the battery but the repacement is under recall and the car is not usable for my purposes.
Vehicle was taken to Nissan to perform "initial remedy" recall p5a22 on 10/24/25 to address recall r24b2. Vehicle was taken from dealer and was driving on 10/27/2025 and experienced a dramatic slow down/turtle mode with "service ev system power reduced" error message.
I bought my vehicle used, in may 2025. Then, in October (if not earlier), a safety recall was issued relating to the fast charging of the ev battery. This recall tells me that I’m not to use the chademo charging port due to battery fire risk. Now, almost 6 months later, there still isn’t a remedy available. Not being able to fast charge puts a huge restriction on where I’m able to go in my car. No one wants to sit around for hours waiting for their car battery to recharge in order to get to their destination. I have contacted Nissan’s corporate office to ask if they would offer me a loaner vehicle for my longer distance drives, but they said no and didn’t have any other assistance to offer until the remedy is available. I would like to know, are they given any sort of deadline to remedy such a huge safety recall, or what most people would consider a defect? if so, what kind of penalty do they face if this deadline isn’t met? if not, is there anything I can do to hold them accountable for selling me a defective electric vehicle? thank you for your time.
My Nissan Leaf 2022 electric vehicle(VIN: [xxx] ) is subject to safety recall 25v-655 (manufacturer recall number r25c8) dated September 30, 2025. As per the recall notice, the vehicle suffers from 'excessive lithium deposits within battery cells' which can cause 'rapid heating of the battery' and result in a battery fire. The manufacturer has officially instructed me not to use level 3 quick charging (chademo) until a remedy is completed. This restriction substantially impairs the use and value of the vehicle, as it eliminates the ability to use the car for long-distance travel, which is its primary intended purpose. It has been over 3 months since this recall was issued, and the status remains 'remedy not yet available. ' the manufacturer has failed to provide a timely repair for this fire risk. I am currently driving a vehicle that is a known fire hazard and has restricted utility. I request an immediate resolution. The high-voltage battery on my 2021 Nissan Leaf is subject to recall 25v-655/r25c8. The recall notice states that the battery cells can develop excessive lithium deposits, which increase electrical resistance and can cause rapid battery heating during level 3 fast charging. Nissan instructs owners not to use level 3 charging at all until a “remedy” is available. I have attempted to have the car fixed at two local dealerships, with both stating that they do not have a fix available. The documented "fix" is a software update that slows or disables level 3 charging, which does not resolve the issue, and only disables the vehicle's intended use.
Nissan has informed Leaf owners that we cannot use dcfc to charge the car, there is a danger of fire from an overheating battery. This poorly designed battery management system severely limits the distance one can travel in the car. It has become an expensive short commute vehicle! Nissan offered to "repurchase" my car. The offer had over $27k deductions for milage and repayment of my $10k lien I would have to pay Nissan $2,800 for them to take the car back! Nissan should take full responsibility for the known recall and poor engineering.
I took my car in for a few recalls and was informed that the manufacturer recall number r24b2/NHTSA recall number 24v-700 fix was not available. The recall has been in effect for 1 year now and there is still no remedy. This is affecting the ability to use the car to its fullest due to the safety risk associated with level 3 quick charging. If I was to quick charge the car it could result in damage to the battery and even fire. I cannot sell the car either due to the recall. Please have Nissan make this right. They need to fix the issue or initiate a buyback.
My 2019 Nissan Leaf has been under recall since September 2024 (recall #24v700000) due to being a fire hazard when using level 3 chargers, also known as fast charging. I understand that issues can take time and specialized parts to resolve a recall. However, it is now 10 months later and Nissan still has no remedy to offer for this issue, leaving me unable to safely utilize this key feature. As a result of this delay, I have not been able to drive my vehicle on longer trips and instead make alternate arrangements like renting a vehicle at my own expense. This is also limiting my ability to sell or trade in the vehicle, which ultimately has diminished its value. While I have not suffered direct physical harm from Nissan's delay in resolving this recall, it has negatively impacted the quality and long-term value of the product.

2019 Nissan Leaf, purchased in USA, 3 years ago. Moved to canada and imported vehicle through proper methods. When entered into canada and waiting for safety inspection paperwork, learned that there was an open recall. The open recall is for battery level3 charging issues. Can catch fire. In order to get safety inspection paperwork, this recall needs to be resolved. Constantly communicating with Nissan us and Nissan canada, dealership and corporate for a fix and release and it has been scheduled and postponed for the past 2 years. There is no fix or resolution in sight. I cannot legally inspect, register, insure and drive my vehicle during this time. Ive waited 3-4 months now and because I imported from the states, im one of the few Leaf vehicles that cannot drive my car while recall fix is pending. And its been pending for 2 years now. I simply need my vehicle resolved so I drive my car. No complaint to the dealership, or Nissan corporate has yielded any results.
The recall preventing me from fast charging and using my car as intended was supposed to be fixed by now! I would like a buyback by Nissan since they can't reach a resolution.
After hard acceleration then releasing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle does not slow as expected and, at times, will actually continue to accelerate. The vehicle will slow as expected when the brake is applied, but will again gradually accelerate when the brake is released. If slowed to a stop, the vehicle may begin to accelerate once the brake is released. This issue does not occur after normal acceleration. The issue may be related to NHTSA recall number 23v-494, which repairs have not been addressed for the subject vehicle, although the issue occurs regardless of the state or change-of-state of the e-pedal switch or cruise control function, both of which are mentioned in that recall. This issue has occurred on multiple occasions in the time that I have owned the car (approx 13 months. ) there is no correlation with weather conditions or initial or final speed. The only consistent variable is rate of acceleration.

Vehicle randomly shuts down when car is underload traveling at highway speed up an incline and with the climate on. Diagnostics are showing multiple cells that are bad in the main battery manufacturer is stating that it is normal wear and it is normal. I’ve only had the car for 300 miles. It was a previously owned car that was supposed to carry an eight year warranty on the drivetrain and battery. They are not honoring the warranty and the vehicle is dangerous to drive and in fact cannot be driven the situation occurred on three occasions where the vehicle just randomly shuts down on the freeway in the middle of the highway. This is a serious concern that will definitely cause injury or death. I attached photos of two occasions when the battery discharged almost immediately, and the one photo shows on the vehicle was completely disabled. I have more supportive photographs and computer printouts from diagnostics if requested. .
I have previously had an issue with low resistance of the high voltage battery. This resulted in the car giving a warning code that prevents the restart of the vehicle once it's turned off. This is itself potentially leaves a driver in an unsafe location if they are in an isolated place since you are also unable to charge. I took it to the dealer multiple times and it took them almost a month to determine the vehicle did have an issue, that it needed 8 modules out of around 24 total replaced. These modules were replaced and the vehicle was returned to me. In spite of this the vehicle when under 50% capacity still exhibits erratic range and capacity readouts when under heavy load. The vehicle has been returned to the dealer and is under investigation again because it is unsafe to drive in this condition. There is currently an outstanding recall for high internal resistance when DC charging. This is the same resistance the battery has at all times so to assume it will only be a charging issue and not discharging is disingenuous. Any time a high load, either going into or out of, the battery a high internal resistance will lead to a cascading failure. The only repair is either replacement or the battery or derating the battery. The latter would vastly decrease the capabilities of the vehicle.
We have an open recall for the DC fast charging for the last year. I use my car for work and often need to fast charge and haven’t been able to and so have to use another vehicle. This has caused a lot of stress and problems for work over the last year and Nissan have failed to address. I am also then concerned about resale value for the vehicle.
I am unable to use my 2020 Nissan Leaf because of the recall (r24b2) on the battery preventing fast charging. My child has the vehicle and now lives in an apartment and there is no place to plug in my car overnight. So the only option for my child is to fast charge it. I'm frustrated that this recall is almost 1 and a half years old and there is still no remedy.

Nhtsa recall number24v-700 it has been over 1yr since the recall was issued for fire risk on the Nissan Leaf and still no fix is available. Nissan continues to ask users to not charge with level 3 charging which in my Leaf was an expensive option. Limits my ability to use my car for longer trips. How much time do they legally have to remedy the issue?.
Battery stopped charging, dealer repaired it and it happened again in less than 30 days. It has happened more than three times now.
Our 2018 Nissan Leaf experienced an error message when we tried to start it saying "warning service ev system no power". Mileage: 29,862. It would go into neutral, but not into drive. We called geico to have it towed to dealership leith Nissan on Feb. 22, 2024. On Feb. 23, john day from leith Nissan called to request permission to install a new 12v battery. I approved the cost of replacing the battery. They said that they were able to drive the car after the 12v battery was replaced. But then they plugged it into the charger, and got an error messsage "ev system no power", and they couldn't drive it anymore. Sometime after that there was a thermal event that caused the power distribution module to explode and for soot to pour out of it. (unsure of occurrence date) when did you replace the 12 volt battery? (2/24) when were you told to replace the high voltage battery? (3/12) when did you replace the high voltage battery? (3/15) is the replacement high voltage battery a new battery or a used battery? (new battery) has the replacement high voltage battery been maintained at a charge or is it at 0% charge? and what charge is it at now? (soc unknown at this time) when were you told the pdm needed to be replaced? (3/15 after hv battery was installed and further diag was performed) when did you replace the pdm? (not yet completed -- were in process but stopped due to bus bar bolt discovery) vehicle was left unattended with no hv warnings with service plug removed but inside vehicle with no cover over port to hv battery.
Goes into neutral in a matter of seconds while driving at highway speeds and goes into turtle mode while on highway. A scan of the vehicle showed a number of low battery voltage codes (p0aa0, p3180, p3182, p08af) stored when the battery was disconnected. Nissan gave no eta on battery replacement.

I was pulling slowly into a parking spot. The vehicle accelerated all of a sudden on its own very fast. I slammed on the brakes and the vehicle did not stop. It ran us on a sidewalk and crashed into a pole. Luckily no one hurt. Progressive is calling the car a total loss, but they have done nothing the car is still at a parking lot near the crash. Nissan is also doing nothing. I feel that I deserve better treatment. I have a good driving record and my rates are going to go up. I have not been offered a replacement car. The car is very dangerous and I would never drive another Nissan.
Car stops completely due to a defective battery should be recalled by dealer manufacturer.

On may 12, I was in a long line of cars at a red light , stopped. All of a sudden my car started moving and accelerating toward the car in front of me. When I got over the initial shock, I started stamping on the brake (2-3x) and nothing happened. I clipped the other car as I yanked the car out of line into the turn lane. I turned off the car and shook. Then I handled the insurance stuff with the other guy. I did not take my foot off the brake. (I reported this incident to the ntsb, btw. ) I wanted the collision center and Nissan to look at the black box, but the garage didn't and Nissan said that was no black box.
