All 4 tires of my Nissan 2004 (first owner) develop cracks on sidewalls (25000 miles), all along perimeter where sidewall meets tread. Tire size (original equipment manufacturer) p245-45-r18, goodyear. Dealer (sheehy Nissan, springfield, va) released document : "found all 4 tires have splits in sidewalls. No apparent damage -- looks like under warranty. " tires have been rotated by dealer at recommended intervals, wheels balanced. Nissan manual:at rotation dealer inspects for abnormalities; no mention of problems at about 2600 miles. Dealer advise contact goodyear hq, tires not guaranteed Nissan. Was advised by goodyear hq to have car inspected @ craven tires, fairfax station, va. Craven tires released written statement: "we found cracks in all 4 tires inconsistent with dry rot due to mileage and age of tires. Customer was offered 25% courtesy discount on new tires. Customer has declined at this time. Offer stands for 30 days. Note tread depth on all 4 tires is 4/32 of an inch. " note that 4/32 is measured from embedded "consumption" bar, note also that new tires are 10/32 inch, hence tires would still have 40% life (4/10). My opinion is a structural defect and therefore a danger for all these tires, not only on my car. Dealer (mr. Ron del rio, sheehy Nissan, springfield, va) confirmed by mouth that the problem had occurred on many other Maximas en altimas, but that all clients had decided to pay themselves for replacement. These tires will see separation of sidewalls/tread, rapid deflation and may cause accident. Do not use the car until this is solved to my full satisfaction; will not hesitate to bring the matter in front of the court. I am awaiting answer on my notes that I sent to goodyear corporate address and Nissan customer services. Nissan has notified me that it will answer me within 2-3 days, as the matter had to brought to the attention of "higher level" people within their organization.
2004 Nissan Maxima tires with blow out problems customer states that the tires has cracked in the sidewalls and had to be replaced**.
: the contact stated while washing the vehicle, the sidewall of all four tires were discovered to be cracked. The vehicle was taken to the dealership who determined the sidewalls were worn and the tires needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was alerted. The tires are goodyear, model eagle rs-a, p245/45r18.
2004 Nissan Maxima with tires with cracked sidewalls. Customer states that the dealer and the tire dealer would not replace them under warranty. When she received the recall they replaced the rear tires without question. The consumer received a denial letter from goodyear stating, she had not shown proof that her tires were adjusted for sidewall cracking.
: the contact stated that there were tears on the inside wall of all 4 tires. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer, who determined that the vehicle was unsafe to drive with the tires in that condition, however the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the problem.
Goodyear eagle rsa tires p245/45r18, on Nissan Maxima 2004, with 20,000 miles. All four tires are defective. Tread is separating from sidewall. Goodyear has no recall and Nissan has no recall on this issue. The dealer I took the car to said that mine was about the 3rd Nissan he seen with this issue. I just took my 2004 Nissan maximum into the dealer for a front seat and undercarriage recall issue and ask them to look at my front tire because the sidewall of the tire had a large split in it. The dealer told me that all four tires were bad on my car and the inside of the tires were much worse than the split in the sidewall that I pointed out to them. My car only has 20,000 miles on it and the dealer would not replace the tires because goodyear will not acknowledge this problem and send the dealers replacement tires.
While driving on the NJ turn pike at 70 mph, my husband felt what seemed like a tire going flat. He proceeded to try to get to the shoulder. Suddenly, the left rear tire blew and he totally lost control of the vehicle. He was hit head-on and in the rear. Both he and the driver of the other vehicle were injured and transported to the hospital. Two days later we went to see the car at the towing garage and we saw the rear passenger tire was split on the sidewall. These tires were replaced recently and were rotated and checked by goodyear three months ago. Goodyear saw nothing wrong with the tires at that time. Is goodyear waiting for a death to occur before they issues a recall? there are many complaints about the rsa18" tires.
This complaint documents a very disturbing situation regarding goodyear eagle rs-a p245/45r18 tires on our 2004 Nissan Maxima. We are the original owners and there were 29,500 miles on the car at the time. We had a violent flat tire (passenger rear) and upon removal noticed that the inside side wall had split in multiple regions around the circumference of the tire. When the car was up on the lift as the tire was being replaced at a goodyear dealer, it was noticed that the remaining three tires also had multiple long, deep inside side wall cracks, evident around the entire circumference. It was obvious that the car was extremely unsafe to drive in this condition, and we had all 4 tires replaced. We have no idea how long the tires had been in this condition, though it looked like the rubber had degraded significantly. Since the cracks were on the inside, they were impossible to see with normal visual inspection. We consider ourselves extremely lucky that we were not seriously injured or killed as a result. It is also evident that this is a defective condition of the tires, for this to happen to all four tires at only 29,500 miles. Once home, we checked the internet to see if there was any recall issued. We were horrified to find numerous complaints from owners of 2004 Nissan Maximas that have experienced the same problem. We find it hard to believe that prestigious companies such as goodyear or Nissan would be so irresponsible as to allow people to unknowingly drive around on hazardous tires. We are extremely concerned that other Nissan Maxima owners may experience the same problem but may be hurt or killed as a result. It is irresponsible of both goodyear and Nissan to not respond to this situation. We believe they should issue a recall or safety alert and fully reimburse the owners for the tire cost. We then sent letters to both goodyear and Nissan to address their intent.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that the sidewall on the goodyear eagle rs-a (p245/45r18) tires have begun to crack on all four tires. He only noticed the cracking at 45,000 miles. The tires are v speed rated. The dot number was unknown. The current mileage is 69,000 and failure mileage was 35,000.
I purchased a 2004 Nissan Maxima approximately 18 months ago. The car now has 17000 miles on it. I took it to the Nissan dealership where I purchased the car, pohanka Nissan in fredericksburg, va, the car failed inspection because the tires have failed. The tires are goodyear eagle rs-a m+s p245/45 r18. The tires have sidewall cracks on the inside of the tires and cords are showing. The dealership said that this is a recurring problem on Nissan's equipped with these tires. I believe that this is a safety issue. I am also disappointed that this apparently widespread problem has not resulted in a recall. These are expensive tires and should not have failed after 18 mos. And 17,000 miles.
: the contact stated while adding air to the tires, it was noticed the sidewalls of the two front tires were cracked. There were no warning indicators of a problem other than the cracked sidewalls. The tire manufacturer was contacted and agreed to replace the two front tires. The two rear tires do not appear to have a problem. The tires were regularly rotated and the proper pressure was maintained. The tire dealer informed the contact this was the forth vehicle seen with this same problem recently. The tire brand name is eagle rsa and the size is p245/45/r18.
: the contact stated when inspecting the tires it was discovered the driver's side rear and front passenger tire sidewalls were cracked. The tires are still maintaining air pressure; however the cracks are more severe. The dealer and manufacturer have not been alerted.
: the contact stated upon inspection of the tires it was noticed the sidewalls on all four tires are cracked. The vehicle dealer and tire manufacturer have been alerted.
At a recent oil service the tires on my car were found to have deep cracks in the sidewalls. The tread on the tires appears to be good for 10k more miles. However I had to have them changed as they amy fail due to rupture of the sidewalls.
I notice a few days ago that 3 out of 4 tires on my Nissan Maxima 2004 have developed cracks on the side walls. After doing some research on the internet I came across numerous complaints about the same thing. I strongly believe that these tires are defective and further investigation by the NHTSA is required. Lets not wait for someone to get killed before action is taken. The tires are manufactured by goodyear. The model of the tires are eagle rs-a p245/45 r18.
My 2004 Nissan Maxima has been experiencing loud rattling noise when driving and severe shaking of the steering when applying the brakes. In April 2006 I took the car to the dealership. They stated the struts and suspension needed to be placed and insisted I pay for it. The struts had been replaced in the car previously in April of 2005 along with defective rotors. They also suggested the belts be replaced because they were cracking. I have not had the car two years yet, but parts on this vehicle continue to malfunction exhibiting all signs of defective manufacturing. Additionally I replaced two of the originally tires (goodyear rsa 18") at 12k and 20k miles for tears in the sidewalls. I have reviewed the other complaints on file for this vehicle from other owners and unfortunately I share the same problems with my Maxima.
: the contact stated on Friday night the vehicle was pulled into the driveway. On Saturday morning the contact noticed the front passenger tire was flat. The side wall was split. Upon further inspection it was noticed all four tires had a split on the side wall, but only one had gone flat. The tires have not been inspected to determine what caused the sidewall damage.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Maxima se. The contact stated that the inner and outer sidewalls of the original tires were cracking on all four tires. After replacing the tires, the contact received a safety recall notice. The contact no longer has the tires, receipts, dot number, or proof of having owned the tires. The tires were goodyear rsa. The purchase date and recall number were unknown. The current mileage was 79,000 and failure mileage was 69,049.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Maxima xe. The vehicle has goodyear eagle rs-a tires, size p245/45/r18. The contact observed that the inner and outer sidewalls of the tires exhibited excessive cracking on the two front and rear driver's side tires. The vehicle rode poorly on normal road conditions. Through research, the contact stated that there was a special tire replacement program for these tires. The vehicle was taken to the tire manufacturer for inspection; however, the tires were excluded from the program because it exceeded the expiration date. The contact was displeased to know that there was no prior notification of the "special tire replacement program" to take advantage of the remedy. The tires have not been replaced. The contact filed a safety complaint on the other three tires on the vehicle (odi number 10259643). The dot number and VIN were unavailable. The failure mileage was 15,913 and current mileage was 34,800.
All four goodyear eagle rs-a p245/45r tires on my 2004 Nissan Maxima developed deep sidewall cracks. Nissan would not cover the defective tires. Goodyear provided some relief by discounting the replacement cost to $264. 15. Upon searching the internet to see if other owners had experienced the same problem with the 2004 Nissan Maxima and goodyear tires, I discovered there were 113 registered owners who had the identical problem, extensive sidewall cracks. Neither Nissan nor goodyear would acknowledge a problem. Some of the owners experienced crashes and injuries. . Read more...
I own a 2004 Maxima and have goodyear rsa245/45/18 tires. I have had a blow out while driving on long island expressway. Checked my tires this weekend found side wall cracks on both front tires and severe sidewall failure on inside of rear tires. I have replaced two tires during the first year due side wall cuts was told it was road hazard. How could a car with just 40k have had 3 out of four tires replaced and now I need to replace all four again. These tires need to be recalled before there is a death.
My goodyear eagle rs-a tires have split along the sidewall. The local retailer told me these tires are known to do that and that goodyear has a strict policy of not allowing any replacement or pro-rated credit toward the purchase of replacement tires. This is an extremely dangerous defect which could cause fatalities in the event of tire failure. These tires need to be recalled immediately! I bought this vehicle new in July, 2003 and these tires were on the vehicle as original equipment. These tires have been garage kept and rotated every 7,500 miles with proper inflation. There's plenty of tread left on these tires and they should have lasted alot longer. The tires are splitting along the sidewall. Three of the 4 tires have done this, requiring replacement of all 4 of them. Make / model: Nissan Maxima 2004; VIN 1n4ba41e94c815945; tire model: goodyear eagle rs-a; maximum permissible tire pressure: 44; tire size: p245 / 45r18; mileage at time of incident: 46,903; incident date: 12/09/05; maximum load rating: 1,565; state of registration: oklahoma; numbers on side of tire (possible "tin" ?): t312896 74dhrn.
2004 Nissan Maxima se 3. 5 liter v6 with a manufacturer's standard tire size of p245/45r18. Currently goodyear is having a manufacturer's defect on the tires listed above. The side walls on these tires are splitting and they are doing a recall on them. . . I guess they are going to reactive rather than proactive. . . Just like firestone. I just wanted to let you know before someone was seriously injured or killed. The reason I am writing is because I have those same tires installed and they are splitting around the side wall and the only reason I know about this is the dealer stated that goodyear knows about the problem but is reluctant to initiate a recall. . . Worried about dollars rather than saving lives. I am not talking about a small split but rather a split that covers almost 3/4 of the radius. Thanks for your time and assistance. I really thought you and the general public needed to know before something really bad happened.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Maxima. The vehicle has goodyear, size p245/45r18 tires. While driving 35 mph or greater, the contact heard a consistent loud noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for a tire alignment, but the noise continued. It was later discovered that all four tires had a nine inch crack on the inside sidewalls. The current mileage was 26,008 and failure mileage was 54. The consumer provided the repair invoice and pictures of the defects on the tire. The consumer stated the dealer provided a check for the tires but consumer stated it does not cover the cost of the worries and headache dealing with the tires. Updated 08/23/07.
2004 Nissan Maxima. The consumer stated the driver's side front and rear tire split on the sidewalls. The front tire split on the complete circumference of the tire, between the wheel and the tread. These were goodyear tires, p245/45r18. These were the original tires for the vehicle. There have been no other problems with the other two tires.
2004 Nissan Maxima with 24k miles. Equipped with goodyear eagle r-sa p245/45r18 tires. Left front and right rear tires shows signs of sidewall separation (one inch from rim). Tread depth was measured at 7/32 and 8/32. Talked with dealer who said he had another Maxima goodyear replaced the tires on due to sidewall separation. Goodyear has offered to replace the defective tires at less than the pro-rated warranty amount. This complaint is meant to bring attention to possibly a "bad" production run or engineered defect.
The consumer stated that the tires had cracks on the sidewalls. The tires were about a year and a half old. The tires came on the vehicle when the car was bought. A goodyear dealer checked the tires and the consumer would replace all 4 tires. The tires were goodyear eagles rsa. Consumer noticed the cracks yesterday. The factory representative was will check the tires.
I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima se. While the car was at the dealer for routine service, the technician told me that the inside sidewalls of all 4 tires were showing cracks, and the front passenger tire had cracks and a bulge coming out. This was when the car had only about 26,000 miles. He said the cost to replace the tires is $245 each tire, plus installation costs. He strongly recommended that I replace at least the two front tires as soon as possible. I then took the Maxima to a different Nissan dealer for their opinion as well. That dealership agreed that all 4 tires had cracks on the inside sidewalls, and the bulge was there on the right front tire. They recommended that I replace all 4 tires. I told them it seems absurd that tires that are so new would need replacement, and they said it was a common problem with these tires and I should go to goodyear to see if they would cover all or part of the replacement cost. I called Nissan headquarters (1-800-Nissan-1) and was told the same thing, it is not Nissan's responsibility, but goodyears'. Going to goodyear this afternoon to have them checked -- and if safety risk exists I will of course have to buy new tires. I have a wife and a 21-month old baby, and cannot risk a blowout or some other catastrophe that may cause injury to my family. No tires should fail like this so quickly. General rule is if some object or thing goes into a tire, that is just a risk that the owner must bear. But if the tires show problems coming from the inside out, that indicates a tire defect. I will update this after meeting with goodyear.
Consumer is a owner of 2004 Nissan Maxima the vehicle is equipped with eagle rsap24/45r18 v goodyear tires all four tires exhibit cracks in the upper interior sidewall. The consumer stated that in early September while changing the oil, the vehicle was raised on racks and the consumer noticed that all tires exhibited cracks in the upper interior sidewall and they were noisy immediately, the contact purchased all new tires amounting to $923. 97. The consumer stated wants to reimbursed for the tires. Also, the consumer provided pictures of the defect.
The Nissan dealer told me that I needed 4 new tires for a 2004 Nissan Maxima. The tires were cracked on all 4 tires on the inside tire walls. These are those goodyear 245 45 18 that came on the car. These tires are defective!.
In September 2004 I took my 2004 Nissan Maxima in for some warranty work, and scheduled maintainence. I advised that my front end felt funny, I eventually had to bring it back in for the skyroof recall and again advised that the car still felt rough, I was advised it was just from the tire rotation and would eventually smooth out, it never did. The skyroof started leaking and it took three more trips to get it fixed, every time I took my car in I told the service dept. That the car still felt rough. On June 15, 2005 I took my car back in for the 30,000 mile maintainence. The service dept. Called and said all four of my tires were coming apart on the inside sidewall, the tires were actually splitting the entire circumfrence of all four tires. They said they had never seen tires split like that. The service dept. Called goodyear and were told they were having a few problems with those tires and would sell me new ones for $900. 00 the dealer declined that price and goodyear came up with a price of $550. 00 for new tires I was called and told of the final price and advised the dealer I would be contacting an attorney. Then dealer then called me back and said they had a set of tires and rims they would sell me for $400. 00 I agreed because I was leaving for a trip to indiana the next morning. The tires that they put on my car were the same exact goodyear eagle rs-a p245/45r18 that were defective. My husband called a friend at a local tire dealership and was told they were seeing alot of those same problems with the goodyear eage rs-a. I cannot believe that a company would endanger the lives of the very consumers that buy and trust their products to be safe. I sent a letter to Nissan north american consumer affairs dept on June 20, 2005 documenting all the problems, and have had no response so I have turned to you for some guidance as to my rights to be warned and protected when they know there is the potential for diaster with their product.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Maxima. The vehicle has goodyear rsa, size 245/45/r18 tires. While driving 15 mph, the driver side front tire blew out. The vehicle was towed to the repair shop and they stated that all four tires had cracks on the sidewalls. After 34,000 miles, the tires began to crack again. The VIN, engine size, and dot number were unknown. The failure mileage was 58,000 and current mileage was 92,000.
I purchased a 2004 Nissan Maxima se with goodyear eagle rsa 245/45/18 size, in sept. 2003. In April 2005 I had all 4 tires replaced because of the sidewall cracking. My car only had 22,000 miles on it. In oct 2006 I had a blowout on the expressway and goodyear couldn't determine if it was from the cracking and I bought a new tire. In June 2007, with only 46000 miles I suffered 3 flat tires due to the cracking (the new tire I just bought was fine). I complained to goodyear and they replaced all 4 free of charge with a set of dunlop direzzas. I feel this is a tremendous safety hazard and something should be done about it.
Goodyear has a known defect on their goodyear eagle rs-a tires (245/45r18) that were installed on the2004 Nissan Maxima (and who knows how many other vehicles). The tire sidewall was not properly made and depending on miles (I have seen the problem on Maxima's with mileage ranging from 4,000 miles up to 30,000). Goodyear states you should continuely inspect them and if cracking occurs, then they will replace them. I am very cocerned for my families safety when driving now, especially long distance, I may be able to inspect the outside sidewalls, however not the inner. If I can't see the problem I cannot get it corrected. The cracking and composition of the sidewalls could lead to a bowout or rollover if in a turn when the pressure against the tire sidewall is greatest. A Nissan Maxima is a performance family sedan so sometimes driven hard. My next concern is having to hear about this problem from word of mouth through other Maxima car owners. No safety letter from goodyear telling owners to inspect tires regularly, nothing. They are playing the numbers with my family and my life and this is unacceptable. Please force their hand to do something. Thank you. . Read more...
Dt: contact states the tires on his vehicle have large cracks on the inside wall. The tires only had 20,000 miles, the service dealer stated they were 75,000 mile tires. The tires have been replaced by a local service dealer.
