1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2019

This danger of which I complain is not absolute to my vehicle but to all others that are made with such shortcut. In previous decades cars were made with a trunk key and or mechanical cable for opening. My 2005 Maxima and most recent vehicles are made with only an electronic button to open the trunk. This is very dangerous. Recently my car lost power at a precarious location and I had no way of accessing the trunk. My flares, my booster cables, all emergency tools, supplies, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, water all locked away in the trunk and I had no access to it. This is not merely inconvenient, but very dangerous. Car manufacturers may say that there is access through the back seat. This, however, is totally inadequate. It is very cumbersome and call for physical maneuver which is very difficult, time consuming and subject to failure. First it is a task in itself to figure out and to get that back seat down. Even when down, there is not enough space to even crawl inside and access things you need. Feeling around in the dark with your hand is not efficient. Furthermore the apparatus to get the trunk door open from that position is not only obscured but physically almost impossible to engage from that position. I propose that it be mandated that vehicles come with a more accessible backup, such as a mechanical cable from the inside of the car or key lock from the outside to open the trunk in case of power failure. This is a real safety issue! one should definitely be able to access necessary and emergency items from the trunk in case of power failure emergency! this may seem like a trivial matter to you only because I may not be able to express the urgency of the situation and the possible devastating effect of this if it continues uncorrected. Please consider this a viable complaint and I urge you to approach this matter with expedition and earnest. Thank you!.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2018

Just after 100k miles the car started to jerk from r to d and slowly progressed into full blown slipping, rpms shoot through the roof while driving causing the car to slip and slam into gear at whatever speed I'm going which sometimes cause the car to be uncontrollable. I've seen 1,000s of forums with people having the same problem and claiming Nissan knows about this issue but refuses to do anything about it. Not only is my car unsafe but I feel as if Nissan should be held responsible for the lack of care they put into the 2004-2007 models of the Maxima.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

Car jerks when accelerating, slips gears, hesitating when accelerating and sometimes will not go over 20 mph (while driving down a 50mph road!).

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2017

Prior owner reported issues with abs rear sensor, and having to disconnect fuse. Vehicle was taken to Nissan dealer for service weeks ago, I authorized diagnostic fee and was notified that computer reports rear right abs sensor being defective and needing to be replaced at a total cost a little over $550. Driving from dealer, the vehicle has reduced acceleration out of nowhere to a point where I have not driven car until I proceed with repairs at dealer. Since re-connecting fuse that powers abs. . . At times I have found the car battery drained. After jump starting vehicle, permitting battery to charge,,, after turning off car I would hear the abs pump (on firewall, passenger side) on and not turn off unless I remove the fuse again. If abs is not standard in all vehicles, why is it that it cannot be completely disabled without negatively effecting other systems, but more importantly braking and electrical.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2017

Transmission is slipping hitting into gears hard.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2016

My transmission just failed for the second time after being replaced the first time by Nissan as it was under warranty. It was regularly flushed/ serviced. There is a major issue with the transmission itself and Nissan must do something about it.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2016

I took my car to Nissan for state inspection on 11-21-2016 and for the car jerking and oil change. I was told by the service manger that my three way cataly had gone bad. Then it was told other things was wrong which was not expected since I get my car service regularly. Sensor assy air, mounting rubber, right and left strut, spacer front str. , bumper assy boun, insulator assy-s, gasket exhaust, hose assy-blow b, alll this was done to fix the jerking which did not work. I paid $3662. 55 on that day drove 10 miles and the car was still jerking. I called Nissan and they told me to bring my car back on Monday. It was then told that I had transmission problems.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2016

My car has given me trouble since about a month after I bought it. I bought it used, but have been told Nissans are very reliable vehicles even with high mileage. It will not excel forward at any speed until it gets up to 40mph after stopping at a light or stop sign. It is a disaster in waiting. I drive early in the morning and at night for work. I am afraid someone is going to plow into me because I am not moving fast enough. The transmission jerks bad enough to jerk my head back whenever I put it in reverse. I am afraid to drive it anymore! this has been ongoing for more than a year. I quit driving it a few weeks ago due to the jerking of the transmission when I put it into reverse. The date below is the last day I drove it.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2016

At a red light, car stalled, took a few seconds to restart. When trying to accelerate, it revs like it has a strain; not going anywhere fast, until it gets to 40 mph. This has happened several times. We have changed the fuel pump, alternator, and battery. Each time we changed a part, the car would be fine for a few months. I am afraid when this happens that someone is going to plow into me because they can't stop in time as my car is going too slow. My husband seems to think it's not as much the transmission as maybe something electrical. Nissan should be responsible for this seeing as there are so many complaints about the same thing. Someone is going to be killed or probably already has, but no one can tell what the cause of the accident if the driver is dead! I love the car and would buy another Nissan, but I will research them first! I am glad to see it is not my imagination about the car jumping while accelerating. It seems to only do it when I am driving, but it stops jumping when I take my foot off the accelerator.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2016

Transmission issues. Rough shifting, high revs when traveling at 25 mph. After an abrupt stop the car will remain in a higher gear when moving from a stop, and will sometime throw a service engine soon light. It requires the car to be turned off and restarted to get car to reset to its correct gear.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2016

Harsh engagement at reverse and forward gears. Erratic shifting. After start up the transmission has a harsh engagement in reverse and forward. When driving there is a harsh up shift and down shift. Driving on city or highway the transmission is doing the same of harsh upshifting and downshifting. Harsh engagement. The valve body has been replaced. We have installed new (dealer) cam sensors. We have had it reprogramed. We have rebuilt the unit and still have the same problem.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

Nissan asked me to pay a diagnostic fee of 190$ and then they say entire transmission to be replaced Nissan consumer affairs is not helpful as well worst company.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2016

"tamara inflators" seat belts didn't lock or light did not come on. Smashed body all the way to back seat bottom to ground. Engine was idling very high felt/sound as if we were going 60 but only was going 40. No air bags came on. Brakes grinding. Back window blew out and tires flat in back. . Windows slow on drivers side. When the sheriff tahoe hit us at 80mph on u. S. 40 greenfield in was in the shop at j&m truck an trailer on the west side of indianapolis having the oil leaked fixed and tires all fixed and rotors and lights by [xxx] a couple months prior. I had my little girl in the back seat as well where sheriff hit and ran. I uploaded a before and after picture. VIN#[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2015

Transmission failure after faultier why they don't take responsibility is no only one CA every single owner of Nissan Maxima is having this issue from 2002 to 2006 Nissan Maximas.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2015

Transmission slips and breaks motor mounts. Tore up the transmission and almost caused numerous wrecks. Slips from driving from the start. Isn't always slipping but when it does it's bad. Worse in street than on highway.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2015

Transmission failure, check engine light comes on, car jerks into gears, rpm's accelerate when driving in first gears. Per Nissan dealer they said it needed new mounts and a new transmission, I should trade it in they said :[ I have maintained all oil changes and have kept up my service. They are not accepting any responsibility. Need help please, I can not afford a new transmission, I can not afford 5 years of car payments as well. Thank you, grace.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2015

Car jumps when switching gears or putting your foot or taking it off gas.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2015

Transmission takes about 1-2 seconds to move and then jerks forward. This usually happens when warmed up. Sometimes when car is moving it jerks while shifting gears.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2014

Bought the car used in 2013 with 120,000 miles on it. The car has overheated several times since we bought it, but we were able to control it and keep it from causing any issues. Suddenly, when I was shifting from park to reverse the car jerked extremely hard, while driving the car hesitates to accelerate, and has a high rpm reading when shifting gears. After researching this issue, I have come across no fewer than 30 complaints of the same problems with this make/model/year.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2014

I bought the car in June 2014 and it was fine for the first few days. All of the sudden it would jerk when shifting into drive and while shifting from 1st to 2nd. I tried to get the dealership to help and they wouldn't do anything because I couldn't get a hold of them until 30 days after I bought it. One day I was with my mother and we were driving. It the middle of driving, the car jerked and skidded. We almost lost control of the car. I have a family and I couldn't bare it if anything happened to them. This is a huge safety issue and it really needs to be investigated. The car has already done it dangerously another time since then. Nissan needs to take responsibility and not put the lives of people in danger.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2014

Transmission slips, jerks has issue after issue. . Also having catalyst issues (exhaust, heat shield etc).

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2014

Car jerks when acceleration and deceleration reaches appx 20 mph.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2014

The 2005 Nissan Maxima (and other models during this year) has a valve body defect and the company refuses to recognize and recall the problem. This part helps the vehicle with shifting through gears. As it stands right now every time the vehicle goes from first to second gear, there is a huge vehicle jerk (similar to being in a rear end car collision). The vehicle also jerks when going from second to first. At times, the car even delays in shifting putting the driver even more at risk there are many consumers that have the same problem. The valve body is such an issue that there is a pending lawsuit against Nissan for this problem. Driving with a defected valve body is an enormous safety issue and Nissan feels it is not their issue to deal with.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

My car has been jerking when going into second and third gears, engine revs while driving then jerks again and makes a loud noise. I am scared to be close to another car because I don't know what it's going to do next. It only has 83,000 miles on it and has been kept up for services and no real problems until now. I would like for this to be investigated to the fullest. I bought this car brand new and one of the reason I bought it was for its safety record, which I am not feeling very safe in it now. I should not be having these problems with the mileage I have on it!.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2014

Undercarriage rust rotting of floor board on passenger side.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2014

Transmission jerks hard as it is put in the d position and again between first and second gear. According to Nissan, there are no recalls on the transmission. However, I am finding numerous complaints on car sites and blogs of owners with the same issue.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2014

The transmission is doing hard shifts and I fear it is going to fail. Also the throttle position sensor is giving me problems too.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2014

I purchased my 2005 Nissan Maxima in December 2012 - and drove it smoothly and peacfully for about 6 months. Once the milage hit about 89,000 miles the transmission began slipping and within a few days the violently hard shifting began, stalling between park and reverse and reverse into drive. One time it shifted so hard, the check engine light came on and it seemed as though I had no first gear. I wanted this particular car so bad - and am now so disappointed in Nissan -a company and car that at one time I valued so much. What a let down. I am afraid to drive my car that I still owe 10k on - wow.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2014

Transmission problems. The car has a hard jerk when putting into gear. Sometimes while driving there is a delay in the shift change causing the vehicle to idle hard.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2014

My 2005 Nissan Maxima experiences shifting problems from 1st to 2nd gear, it slams into gear, revs the rpm up past 5, downshifts on its own. Delays when changing gears and them slammed itself into gear causing car to jerk forward or slamm to a stop. I have taken my car into shop several times was told that it is a defect in the transmission valve body, took car to dealer without them even testing car they said it was the motor mounts. This is the 4th Nissan I've owned never experienced this type of issue. After review of other complaints thousands of other owners are having the exact same problem some with as few as 30,000. 00 miles this is obviously a manufacturing issue with this model of Nissan.

31 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2013

I have an 2005 Maxima 3. 5l sl. It has been jerking going into second gear when accelerating and also during deceleration. Only when I slow down under 20mph, then press the gas @ about 17mph appx. Then it shifts hard. The transmissions is not wanting to go into 2nd and 3rd gear. Then when it does it jerks really hard which is now messing up the motor mounts.

32 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2013

My 2005 Nissan Maxima doesn't want to shift. It will rev the engine and shoot the rpm up to 4. I then have to let off the gas in hopes that it will shift. Then today as I was driving it of course did this again but then I stopped in a turning lane to turn and when I went to start turning my cat would not go, revving the engine once more, I was almost hit. It finally decided to go. I have read reviews and seems that this is a problem with most Nissan Maxima's. I think they need to check into a recall.

33 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2013

My car transmission is slipping when trying to accelerate and shifts hard when its does in 1 and 2nd gear and sometimes stall the car and wont move only rev for about 5 secs then jerk hard enough to make it feel like I got hit by another car.

34 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

Automatic transmission violently shifts into gear from 1st to 2nd. Also violent shifting when slowing down.

35 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2013

* year, make, model: 2005 Nissan Maxima se * problem summary:: two problems - (1) severe corrosion / rust at passenger side floor panel (inside-out corrosion); issues are directly related with consumer safety and product quality standards. * car purchase history: single owner & brand new car purchased from Nissan car dealer (I. E. We purchased car from Nissan dealer); all maintenance is properly performed. *** issue - detail description: *** issue 1: corrosion problem: * two years back (approx. During April 2013), I have realized that there is a severe corrosion / rust at passenger side floor panel. Make a note that corrosion is extremely severe. I took car to Nissan car dealer (mcgrath Nissan, elgin, IL). * dealer asked me to directly deal with Nissan company. I did called Nissan and filed complaint with Nissan consumer affairs (case 11584836). Also, I believe, dealer (Nissan - mcgrath, elgin, IL) also sent pictures of corrosion / rust to Nissan company. Almost close to have a hole in floor panel through & through hole). * if you google for such similar issues across various customers, there are so many similar issues (exactly similar issue - 2005 Nissan Maxima - corrosion / rust at passenger side floor panel) overall feedback from Nissan: per Nissan, corrosion is not covered after 5-6 years (no warranty is covered). They can not do anything. All this issue is still open and hence, I am reaching out here. Dealer has quoted me for approx. $ 3000 for this fix. Lol…. All wants easy money; no one wants accountability. Customer request: my request are there any regulation that can regulate safty & quality of the car; or manufacturer to be accountable for such issue and ethically fix this for customer? we paid approx. $36000 for such car quality? wow. . . . . Let me see what national car safety - dot can do. . . . . Hope for the best.
