1 Seat Belt problem of the 2017 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 07/16/2021

I have been taken my vehicle back and forth for the airbag lights coming on and staying on. They have changed the driver side seatbelt in which they installed in wrong and I had to take it back. Every time they say they fixed the problem, within a few weeks the airbag lights come back on. They have told my husband to check the wiring under the passenger seat, and when I took it back due to the airbag lights still staying on. They say they fixed the problem. This last time I took it back, now they are saying I need to replace the whole driver side seat. Saying something in the seat cushion is faulty, which is why the airbag light stays on.

7 Seat Belt problem of the 2017 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

I was driving on the interstate where it started to rain and I hydroplaned slightly, so I let off the gas and recovered to a stop. The side curtain airbags then deployed due to a "tilt angle" being sensed, while all four tires were still in contact with the ground. The vehicle had no impact, no tilt, and no damage to the vehicle. I was able to continue and drive the vehicle home with the airbags taped to the ceiling. The car was then subsequently driven to the dealership approximately 50 miles away with no issue. I submit the vehicle to Nissan to analyze why the airbags deployed, and information was pulled from the edr. All I was told was the airbags deployed within an allowable time from a "tilt angle" being recorded. When questioned, the representative could not tell me how long that allowable timeframe was, why a tilt angle was recorded when all four tires were still in contact with the ground, and could not tell me if the sensors that send data to the edr were functioning correctly (but I could pay to have my own diagnostics run). Also, according the the edr report, in the "pre-crash" information before the event occurred, it showed the vehicle had already come to a full stop prior to the event. I have had previous minor electrical issues with the vehicle related to the radio and mileage tracking resetting themselves, which I had related to Nissan during the investigation, as well as the driver side automatic window falling open in the track when I shut the door. This investigation has taken two months, without any effort on Nissan's part to contact me with any updates. The dealership was also told not to touch the vehicle to even think about repairs, during which time I am still expected to make payments on a vehicle I don't have in my possession.

10 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 11/01/2017

The driver side seat belt is stuck for some reason and I cannot adjust the lock part to fasten or wear my seatbelt which mean I can't follow texas seat belt law and could be hurt or killed due to this issue. I have not done anything that would have created this issue so I am confident that it is a design issue or maybe a flaw in just my 1 car. . . . . . I don't want to be stopped and given a $200 ticket which texas law and police are stricked and I know from experience that if I do not pull the belt over my chest I will be stopped because I was given a $200 ticket on a Sunday morning and I pulled out of my neighborhood and realized when a saw a state trooper that was heading toward me I instantly realized that I had forgot to fasten my seatbelt and he saw me put my seatbelt on and he past me and turned around with lights and and gave me a $200 ticket while I was wearing the bealt.

14 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 11/22/2014

2014 Nissan Maxima seat belts have a design flaw that I do not believe was the design intent. The automatic locking restraint or alr locks on acceleration and on descending steeper hills at constant speed. This pins the driver to the seat, making it impossible to look over his shoulder, for instance, during merging onto a highway. The owner's manual states clearly that the alr deploys on rapid deceleration as it should; as every other car does. However, the Nissan Maxima alr also deploys on acceleration in a straight line acceleration and lateral acceleration. I have never had a car that behaves in this way. We have a 2014 Nissan altima that does not behave in this way. I have driven two 2014 Maxima's that exhibit this behavior and the dealer says there is nothing they can do to correct this. As you lower the height of huge seatbelt anchor on the front seats, it becomes more aggressive. All four seat belts exhibit this behavior. Restricting the driver's movement unnecessarily is unsafe. The dealer said they had other complaints from owners for the same reason.

15 Seat Belt problem of the 2012 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 03/01/2014

Me and my wife were travelling northbound in our 2012 Nissan Maxima around 30mph on western avenue in chicago when suddenly a Ford focus 2007 that ran a stop sign travelling east bound on rosemont avenue t-boned us on driver's side. As our car was moving at a significant speed it stopped after crashing into a fire hydrant which was on the corner of the intersection. My wife was taken to a hospital in an ambulance with arm and back injuries and I also had injuries on my left arm, shoulder and lower back. My main concern is why none of the airbags deployed if the car was travelling at a speed more than 20 mph and hit a solid object(fire hydrant). Both of us were wearing seat belts. The car was declared totaled by both the insurance investigators. I am glad that this did not happened at a high speed otherwise I would resting in peace not be filing this complain. Nissan should be questioned as to what speed the airbags in Maxima deploy and why none of them including curtain and frontal deployed.

16 Seat Belt problem of the 2000 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 07/10/2013

Driver's side seat belt retractor known as a tensioner no longer functions. This creates a problem for the restraint system . The lap shoulder belt is loose and can cause injury. I contacted Nissan about their written policy that they will pick up the charge to replace the unit for life. Nissan told me that I was out of that warranty and would have to pay to get a new seat belt for $180. 00. This is an outrage and the restrainas are going out on many of them. I want Nissan to fix at their expense.

24 Seat Belt problem of the 2002 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 01/22/2009

I have a 2002 Nissan Maxima se that I purchased new from a Nissan dealership. The vehicle is very well taken care of and has always been serviced by Nissan. Last week I was involved in an accident involving both the front and rear end. I was stopped behind a Ford minivan in traffic on us 78 in bremen, georgia. While stopped I was struck in the rear by a Ford taurus traveling approximately 40 miles per hour. That estimate is based on statements by the driver who also said he never saw me and did not apply the brakes. There were no skids present which substantiated his claim. The front of his vehicle collapsed the trunk of my vehicle and sent me into the minivan in front of me. My vehicle had substantial damage to the front and rear(I have pictures) and it was totaled. The airbag on the passenger side deployed protecting the passenger, however, the driver side airbag did not deploy. Also, the seatbelt did not catch and my face struck the steering wheel causing immediate bruising and swelling. I was taken to the er for x-rays which were negative thankfully, however, I've had severe headaches for the last week and I was told by my doctor that I will have to undergo a CT scan tomorrow. My complaint is regarding the failure of both the airbag and the seatbelt leading to my injuries. This complaint does not involve a lawsuit of any kind and I have no plans for any such action, however, there are many of these cars on the road and someone could be severely injured or killed should their safety systems fail. The vehicle is currently at the tow yard should you need to see it.

25 Seat Belt problem of the 2002 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 07/12/2004

The contact owned a 2002 Nissan altima. The driver was traveling at an unknown speed and became distracted, veering off the roadway. The driver maneuvered the steering wheel in various directions in an effort to regain control of the vehicle. The vehicle rolled over approximately eight times. The driver was not injured however, a passenger was killed. The vehicle was inspected by state police who advised that at the time of the crash, the passenger¿s seat was reclined, causing the seat belt to fail to restrain the passenger effectively. The contact stated that after seven years of research she discovered that all passenger seats were unsafe when they were reclined. The contact wanted a warning to be placed on the visor of the vehicle alerting passengers to the danger, as well as possibly a mechanism that would not allow the seat to be adjusted once the vehicle was in motion. The failure mileage was not available. The VIN was not available.
