1 Wheel problem of the 2017 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 08/05/2025

My main issue that has caused major concern is while I was driving down the road. The steering all of a sudden jerked and I was almost in an accident. I immediately took it down to my mechanic and he stated that the control arm of the vehicle was bad. I did replace all four tires and got an alignment prior to this happening. Now,this was the most serious incident. I purchased this vehicle in 2022. I have had nothing but problems with it. The first two months I had it. I had to replace the mass airflow sensor not only once but twice. Then a couple months later the serpentine belt went out, replaced that, then of course it goes out again 6th months later. Replaced again!. In addition to that I have had several electrical issues, I think I replaced more tail lights, fog lights, and headlights on this vehicle than all my previous vehicles put together and I have owned many. The engine makes a funny sound every time I accelerate, I have yet to diagnose that one. The fuel door spring busted which results in my check engine light always on, the visor broke and won't stay up, had to replace that. I have been through 4 sets of tires since I purchased it. I only live a mile from work, I don't put a lot of miles on the vehicle. I have a disabled wife and I need reliable transportation. I have spent thousands of dollars to fix this car and the problems keep coming. I've almost spent more money on it than the car payment and insurance for 3 years. There is definitely something wrong with this vehicle and I think Nissan corporation should be held liable.

3 Wheel problem of the 2009 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 09/12/2022

On 9/12/22, my son purchased a 2009 Nissan Maxima from street cars. My son was told that the car did not pass the state inspection, but all items on the list were taken care of. The salesman noted the air intake tube would be ordered for the car and installed once received. My son paid $5299 in cash. My son wanted to pay with a cashier's check, but the salesperson requested cash. On the way home to woodbridge from fredericksburg, the vehicle began to slow down as if it were going to cut off. My son slowed down and proceeded home. On 9/13/22, my son went to minnieville exxon to have the vehicle emissions test completed, and the car was listed as "not ready. " in addition, seven (7) additional issues must be addressed before the vehicle can pass. We began calling the salesman at 11:45 am, sent a text message at 12:17 pm, and called until 1:30 pm. Due to what we felt were deceptive practices, we traveled to street cars in fredericksburg to speak with the salesman about returning the vehicle for a refund. The salesman stated the vehicle was sold "as is” and is on the bill of sales. We asked about the sign on the front of his business which states "3-day return policy". The salesman said it does not apply to cash cars or discounted cars. When asked about the items on the failed inspection report being taken care of, the salesperson refused to discuss it further. The salesperson stated my son should use the warranty, where he will be responsible for half the cost of all repairs. When the salesperson was asked about the air intake tube order, he refused to provide a confirmation number for the order, a telephone number, or a location for the company. My son did not receive any title paperwork and was told to sign the vehicle delivery form when items had not been received. We contacted asc warranty company which was provided with the vehicle, and they told us to take the car to any automotive repair shop for an estimate. We took the vehicle to sheehy Nissan in manas.

4 Wheel problem of the 2019 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 05/01/2022

The lug nuts on this vehicle are covered with a thin stainless "cap". This cap can, and was, easily damaged and deformed when attempting to remove it to change a tire. The stainless steel "cap" was able to rotate without rotating the lug nut it was covering. This made it impossible to remove the wheel. This is a very poor and dangerous design as a driver can be stranded with a flat tire and no way to remove the lug nuts holding the wheel to the vehicle. The vehicle had to be towed to a mechanic who had to cut away the cap and remove it from the covered lug nut before the lug not could be removed.

7 Wheel problem of the 2017 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 01/08/2021

Purchased 2017 Nissan Maxima at passport of marlow heights on 3/17/20. Took car to first service at passport on 6/22/20 for oil change & tire rotation. After further issues with my front left wheel and going to sheehy of waldorf for my second service I discovered that passport of marlow heights service advisor did not notify me of "the left wheel stud issue" while purchasing the car and until a week after my initial service visit of 6/22/20. The service advisor at passport reported a incorrect service date of 6/25/20 to cover up the late multi-point "lug nut" notification. On 1/8/2021 2nd scheduled maintenance at sheehy of waldorf, I requested oil change, tire rotate, 4-wheel alignment and balance. Sheehy found: lug nuts were crossed threaded which caused studs to be messed up as well. Sheehy "replaced 2 lug nuts and 2 studs on driver front tire. " for an added amount of $251. 53. I left sheehy of waldorf after my service and as I accelerated, I felt strong vibration at each interval, I returned to sheehy and asked for someone to ride with me. A shop foreman drove my car and he felt the vibration at each interval. The foreman took vehicle back in garage and inspected wheels "& found that the right rear wheel has been welded & the weld has split & cracked. The other 3 wheels have bends in the wheel & out of round" video & photo provided by sheehy. Sheehy also informed that air bag light is took car back to passport to re-inspect wheels/rim/air bag issues they created and after further research I found: air bag recall: report receipt date: Apr 26, 2016 NHTSA campaign number: 16v244000 component(s): air bags - air bags: sensor: occupant classification. Now - passport is stating that my air bag light is on because "rodents have chewed thru my wires in my engine harness. Based on my research passport knew about this issue, dealer didn't disclose accident.

15 Wheel problem of the 2011 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 10/26/2017

The Nissan Maxima has been taken to the maintenance facility regarding an issue with the tires consistently losing air pressure. Four new tires were placed on the vehicle at the Nissan dealer and the same problem exists. We recently drove to the end of our driveway for distance travel and the tires locked, skidded and sounded as if metal was touching metal. We parked the vehicle and had to take other means of transportation. Each time we take the vehicle into the Nissan dealer for this and similar complaints, we're told it may be the weather, or that the tire pressure light which stays on may be due to a defective fuse, but that was no guarantee that the tire issue would be resolved. We get different possibility issues each time we go in. We hesitate to drive the vehicle for possibility of being stranded alongside a highway. We're making payments on an expensive 'paper weight. ' the tire pressure light stays on, and even after putting air in the tires, the tires themselves still pose a problem. This recent incident has put the vehicle out of use until the Nissan maintenance facility can give us answers as to what's really going on with the vehicle. Needless to say, we have to pay for them to do anything other than put air in the tires, and after quoting large amounts of money for what may "possibly' be the problem, we may still drive away with the issue. This problem has been ongoing for over 1 1/2 years. The most recent incident is indicated below.

18 Wheel problem of the 2016 Nissan Maxima

Steering/straight line tracking on this Nissan Maxima sv (purchased 06/28/2016) is horribly unpredictable from it's date of purchase. Driver required to be hypersensitive to correcting tracking/line direction of aforementioned vehicle. Natural tendency of front wheels are to careen to left and right abruptly and dangerously with the result being to move into oncoming traffic lane or drift quickly outside of painted lane lines. Constant and inordinate attention is needed to drive this vehicle at speeds of 50 mph or higher. In motion, highway, straight paths.

22 Wheel problem of the 2007 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 09/18/2015

I took my car in to the dealership due to all of my warning lights coming on. Upon putting it on the lift, they showed me where the underside was significant rust that caused the tire & brake sensors to fall off the struts. Additionally, the floor pans were completely rusted out with holes, which can cause my feet to crash through the floorboards causing an accident or carbon dioxide poisoning. I have researched the many problems reported online regarding rusted floor pans and believe the NHTSA should force Nissan to provide a recall to get these items fixed. I understand rust is not a standard reason for NHTSA to be involved, but will it take my death to have you regulate & resolve this issue?.

23 Wheel problem of the 2002 Nissan Maxima

24 Wheel problem of the 2010 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 10/19/2014

The electronic steering wheel lock on the vehicle has malfunctioned and will not allow the steering wheel to lock. This ultimately prevents the car from starting do to the push to start feature. Nissan released a warranty extension for the 2009 model Maxima which is identical to 2010 model that I have, but the replacement part for my vehicle is not covered under the warranty. The new part will cost me $965 out of pocket. Apparently this is a known problem with Nissan Maxima vehicles. Please investigate this issue because there are almost 100 similar complaints listed on NHTSA website.

25 Wheel problem of the 2005 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

The abs system is defective based upon Nissan manufacturers bulletin regarding Maxima's years 2004, 2005, 2006. The requirement of Nissan to replace 2-rear wheel hubs $444. 10, 2-rear abs wheel sensors $627. 20, and possibly the abs actuator-assy $1306. 51 all due to the technical fact that water accumulates in the wheel hubs and causes failure of the sensors & abs actuator assy to properly engage the abs computer ( actuator), causing the abs computer to continually turn on it's pump motor making the vehicle be unstable and not stop evenly. I'm advised by Nissan service the effect of the actuator continually running will cause it to burn out prematurely but Nissan is requiring the customer to make the repairs at their own expense even though this issue has been apparent in 2004, 2005, 2006. The inherent danger to myself as the owner, passengers, pedestrians, other vehicles is of paramount concern in consideration of operating this vehicle.

26 Wheel problem of the 2014 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 07/11/2014

Brand new lease, had vehicle 2 days. Driving home from work, thank god there was slight traffic congestion. Out of nowhere the car started to pull to the left, I could not gain control of vehicle. The car suddenly stopped harsh, as if I were stuck on something. Cars behind me has to slam breaks and swerve out of way. When tow truck came they said stabalizer bar was broken and this could have been a fatal accident had I been going faster. After many complaints and conversations Nissan is focrcing me to take the "repaired" car. I do not feel safe and should not have to take a car that was broken straight from the factory.

27 Wheel problem of the 2009 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 05/15/2014

In may 2014, a roaring sound suddenly started, got worse, & then we had to have the dealer replace a wheel bearing. The sound quietened a little but was still there at all speeds. Then, we had to have the dealer replace another wheel bearing a couple of weeks later. In late August 2014, we again heard the noise & had to replace the 3rd wheel bearing. In my 61 years, this is the only car with which I have ever had a defective wheel bearing problem. Each time, I am out of pocket nearly $500! I bought this car new and have babied it; there is no reason besides faulty parts to cause this. From reading online, I see a pattern of faulty wheel bearings in Nissan Maximas. I could overlook 1 bad wheel bearing, but 3???? and now I am worried #4 may be lurking.

28 Wheel problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 04/14/2013

Two motor mount are already broken as a result of this problem. Nissan dealer recommended replace transmission. Failure Date: 11/15/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Maxima. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact felt an abnormal vibration in the steering wheel. In addition, when driving over uneven road surfaces, the front end of the vehicle would shake excessively. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a tire rotation and balancing. The technicians stated that the service could not be performed because all four wheels were abnormally bent. The contact was advised to purchase four new wheels. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 18,000.

31 Wheel problem of the 2002 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 11/05/2010

After the car has been driven awhile and warmed up, 30 mins or so. The steering wheel starts to jerk and the car pulls to the left. When this happens the car drives like it's on a flat tire, a kluck kluck kluck sound is coming from the front end, but the tires are not flat. I even replaced the old tires with new ones. The steering becomes very erratic. I’ve taken it twice to a Nissan dealer and a sears auto center, and was told everything was tight in the front end. No one seems to know what the problem is, because they can't get the car to recreate this condition. What would be the likely cause that would make this happen?.

32 Wheel problem of the 2006 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 06/05/2010

I brought my 2006 Maxima new and had all kind of problems with the car at the very beginning. Everything was under warranty, but when my car had about 62000 miles the car started slipping and missing gears so I took it back to the dealership and they told me that my transmission wasn't cover under the power train because there were 2 types of transmission put into the Maxima and the one that my car had was not cover under the power train. I called Nissan corporate offices and didn't get any satisfaction. I had to replace the trans and many other things on this car. I would not ever or suggest that anyone buy a Nissan. I believed that Nissan knew about this problem before the first complaint was ever made. Same on you Nissan.

33 Wheel problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 04/08/2010

The abs control module on the Nissan 2004 is not only faulty but dangerous. The problem comes from a short on the passenger rear wheel sensor short which in turns causes the abs module to fail. The abs motor will run even without the key in the ignition causing the battery and motor to become very hot.

Wheels bend easily and causes vehicle to vibrate.

35 Wheel problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 12/01/2009

I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima that I bought new in 2003 in California. Within months to the first year, I have had continuous problems with the front end. I've had my wheels aligned, tires balance numerous times and checked due to a shimmy in the steering wheel, tires wearing unevenly and a clanking or thumping noise in the front right when going over a bump. These problems I have had for years and complained continuously. Had the car in the shop many times for these problems, but to no avail. Nissan fixed noise after 5 times in the shop in 2004 and 2005. Now over the years the noise has come back, but the shimmy was always a problem. I just learned to ignore it until now. I'm reading now online of other Maxima owners having the same problem. I'm planning on approaching my Nissan dealer here in florida about the shimmy, abnormal tire ware and clankiing noise as well. Can you help me?.
