1 Wheel Rim problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 09/01/2007

Purchased car in July of 2007 four brand new chrome wheels from the dealer. By September of 2007 chrome began to peel on the inside of the wheel between the spokes on all four tires. Took it to the dealer in November and was told the best they could do was pay 50% of all costs. I called consumer affairs and they stated the same thing. I explained I couldn't afford the $1,500 it would costs me and that the dealer should warrant the cost since this incurred six months after I purchased the car. I refused the offer and continued driving on the peeling wheels. Recently, April 2008, my front passenger tire began to leak air. The car was bought back to the dealer and the rep stated the chrome was deteriorating from the inside. The rep stated that it was caused by fix a flat (not correct as the fix a flat was used to stop the leak in the first place) the faulty wheel was beaded and my tires were rotated. This has gone from a cosmetic issue to the issue of a health hazard in my daily driving. I have filed another complaint with consumer affairs on this matter and would like my wheels replaced by Nissan. I sincerely regret my purchase. . .

3 Wheel Rim problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 05/20/2005

Purchased 2004 Nissan Maxima 3. 5 se in July, 2003. It has aluminum wheels ("rims") and low profile tires. In March, 2005, I hit a pothole, which flattened the front passenger tire and dented the rim. I had to change the tire, and then replaced that rim (tire was ok). In may, 2005, my front driver tire was low. I drove a half mile at 20 mph to the closest gas station and filled the tire. I took it to the dealer to investigate why it was low. They noted that the rim was cracked, said it was dangerous to drive that way, and put the "donut" spare on in place of the cracked rim. Besides the cracked rim being a safety issue (the dealer says that I "must have hit something", and claims to have no warranty liability), I believe the wheel/tire design of the 2004 Maxima is a safety issue. I have been driving for 32 years and never had a problem with a rim on a car. Now in the space of a month or two, I had a dented rim that stranded me in a remote area until I could change the tire, and now a cracked rim that I had to immediately remove from the car. I don't know whether it is because the rim is aluminum and perhaps brittle and not sturdy, or because low profile tires leave relatively little tire between the road and the rim, making "everyday potholes" that are common in the northeast in the springtime a hazard to the wheels ("rims"). But after having two rims that failed just a month or two apart such that they each had to be totally replaced, I believe there is a design flaw in this car that lends itself to these safety problems that I experienced with my car. I opened a complaint on this issue with Nissan, file #4947551. I was given no assurance that any action would be taken, except that they would "look at this", and was told they would not even send me any response to my complaint to let me know their decision as to what they do or don't plan to do regarding my issue.

4 Wheel Rim problem of the 2001 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 11/15/2003

Leased 2001 Maxima anniversary edition. Coming off lease 11/28/03. Nissan sends man to inspect vehicle. Man says lip of three wheels are scratched (they are) and that we must replace them at a cost of $559. 00 per wheel as excessive wear and tear on vehicle. Anyone who knows the Maxima se knows Nissan engineers designed it low to the ground and that at recommended inflation of tires the wheels of the Maxima are always lower than any curb in the metropolitan area of new york. It would be impossible to drive a Maxima se as designed and not have wheels strike the curb over the course of a 3 year lease. Our family had been a loyal Nissan customer since our first Maxima in 1990. I believe we have purchased or leased 5 Maximas, I know we purchased 2 sentras and leased one altima. Now this is how Nissan is treating us, with greedy fingers and a shakedown of over $1650. 00 to replace the 3 wheels. It is obviously a design flaw of the wheel if the Nissan engineers did not anticipate that we have curbs in the united states and that vehicle traffic law of new york requires all drivers to parallel park on the street. If they are going to charge leasing customers for damage to the lip of the wheel they should recall every Maxima se and put normal size wheels on the vehicles not the alloy wheels they now have with less than 2 inches of tire to the actual wheel. Beware of Nissan leasing policy. Never again will a Nissan vehicle cross the threshold of our family driveway. Then to complete this shakedown they offer to take $500. 00 dollars off their "damage assessment" if we will lease or buy a new Nissan. Extortion! keep your cars we will get our son another type of car. You blew it, lost a good customer and hopefully those who read this many more customers.
