1 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2017

After driving in stop and go traffic or after driving long enough for the transmission to get warmed up, when accellerator is pushed the car is unresponsive for 5 to 10 seconds then suddenly lunges forward into traffic! this happens in all driving situations. The only requirement is the transmission needs to be driven enough to be warmed up. It is a known issue with this vehicle's cvt transmission failing! this is a major safety issue and all affected cvt's should be replaced or repaired! Nissan has recalled other vehicles that have the exact same transmission and experiencing the exact same issues but they have ignored taking responsibility for the 2003 Murano's transmission! look here at your complaints and you will find hundereds of people claiming the same thing. Some are explaining the issue with knowledge of what the issue is and many others are reporting the same issue just without proper car knowledge so it may not be reported as the same issue. If you look into these complaints you can see the cvt transmission is a safety hazzard and should be recalled for life of the vehicle!.

2 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2014

2003 Nissan Murano started at 98,000 miles. Like many, many thousands of others the cvt transmission has failed and is extremely dangerous! when driving in stop and go traffic for a short period of time , when pressing the accelerator the vehicle is completely unresponsive for about 5 seconds then suddenly launches forward unexpectantly! Nissan tried to look as if they are taking responsibility for the saftey flaw by extending the warranty period from 5 yr or 60,000 miles to 10 yr or 100,000 miles. Problem is the issue a lot of the times starts outside those perimeters such as mine! even more, if the vehicle does fall in the warranty period they replaced the faulty transmission with the exact same transmission which also fails as they are identicle! in my case the vehicle was already outside the extended warranty period when I started experiencing the issue therefore Nissan says it will not be covered. How can a major design flaw that is a serious saftey issue be covered under a time limit? the design flaw is forever therfore the safety issue is forever! so my life is depending on your help to get this resolved. This is a significant safety issue and I feel that Nissan should be held responsible for correcting this problem on all affected vehicles! I would not recommend the purchase of Nissan products until they live up to their responsibility. . Read more...

10 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2008

I drive a 2003 Nissan Murano. I had exited off the interstate right to a red stoplight. The light turned green and I pushed on the accelerator to only drift into the intersection. I floored the pedal and the vehicle finally jerked into motion after my light had turned red again and traffic was waiting on me. Perhaps it was a computer problem? restart a computer and things clear up. That's what I did with the Murano. The problem seemed to have corrected itself. I was wrong. The next time it happened I was leaving a drive-thru and once again was slowly coasting through a busy intersection until the Murano jerked into action. In all of these situations I have been lucky enough that the other drivers were observant and didn't hit me. I have now noticed this problem occurs at any type of stop and go traffic situation. This problem seems to come and go. It won't happen for days or weeks. Then it'll do the slow and jerk every day at every stop even if I do turn it off and restart. I don't live near a dealership, so I took it to the local dependable shop. Not one of their mechanics could reproduce the condition. I thought it was possibly an acceleration issue. My Murano is a high-mileage vehicle. My friend had mentioned having the transmission in his high-mileage car rebuilt and how it felt like it was new again. While researching on the internet, I didn't find information on a re-build kit, but I did find many forums from other Murano owners with the same "slow and jerk" problem that I have been experiencing. Right now, I'm pretty much waiting for my transmission to fail. I have inquired about the price of removing and replacing the transmission: $4500 was a conservative estimate.

11 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2008

Transmission failure started when the car would experience a loss in power in heavy traffic then will suddenly lunge forward. We lost the transmission last week, the Murano couldn't even make it up to the driveway. We need to turn off the engine then turn it back on again in order to have the transmission working. The car is currently at the dealers waiting for a new transmission estimated at $4800. ~lb.

14 Transmission Failure problem

With no warning on a crowded interstate the vehicle lost all power to the drivetrain. Vehicle would rev in park but would do nothing in drive or reverse. Very busy interestate and almost hit in rear as car could not moe out of traffic. Dealer says cvt transmission failed. Dealer can not tell me what was wrong with the cvt and just says it needs replaced.

15 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2005

In February 2005 the alternator failed to charge the battery and the car slowed to a complete stop and the battery died in the middle of a busy intersection. I had to tow the car to the nearest dealership and the car was repaired 48 hours later. In March 2005 the gas tank lid wouldn't open and the car was running out of gas. I drove the car to the dealership and it took 48 hours to repair. However, the "repair" was done by prying the lid open and I still have not recieved the new part. In may 2005 the transmission failed in the middle of a busy intersection and I had to tow the car to the dealership. They still have the car and expect to have it for two weeks at least. They cannot guarentee that they will pay for the rental car costs which will amount to at least $350 at $25 a day. This car only has 35,000 miles on it.
