36 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2013

Both fobs (car keys) went bad on my 2009 Nissan Murano, unable to lock and open doors using the fob. I had to remove the key from the fob to unlock the doors. At night this was a safety issue as I had to struggle to take the key out of the case in the dark. Replaced batteries in the fob and did not resolve the issue. On January 22, 2014 I mailed a letter to Nissan of America asking for reimbursement of the new fob I had to purchase. Nissan was unable to offer financial assistance with the replacement of the fob as the vehicle being outside of the new vehicle limited warranty. As I expressed my concern to Nissan that a car key should never have to be replaced. These fobs are manufacturing defects I understand replacing a battery but not the entire fob. The cost of one fob was $239. 61.

37 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2013

The driver door will not lock or un-lock using the key fob. This is a safety issue because they no longer will lock automatically.

38 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2013

Liftgate will not open from outside, regardless of method used. The driver's button, the fob, and the button on the liftgate do nothing. In the event of an emergency, the liftgate cannot be used as a means of entry or exit of the vehicle.

39 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

Radio (and) climate system) knobs do not work properly. Radio sometimes goes to full volume without any human intervention startling the driver and diverting attention from the road to try to control the radio volume. This happens at random times while driving on all kinds of roads at various times. Date listed below is not accurate. This is a continuous and ongoing problem. It happens at random times and dates. It started sometime in 2013 or 2014.

40 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2012

The warning light keeps coming on saying the back hatch is open which makes my automatic door locks constantly open and close. I took it to Nissan and they say the back hatch latch assembly needs to be replaced.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2012

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that the battery of her vehicle had to be replaced 3 times and the air bag and tpms warning lights were illuminated. The dealer stated that the sensors would have to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 700.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2012

The keyless remote appears to lock the doors and set the security system. The door handle was pulled allowing entry into the car while it was thought to be locked. The alarm sounds but the car can be accessed when it appears and sounds as if it is properly locked. Only the drivers door locks. The door can be opened while in motion from the inside.

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

Problem with the tilt and telescope of the steering column. When turning on the car, gears seem to be grinding and the automatic feature no longer works. Wheel does not return to the pre-set location. Also the auto seat feature does not return to the pre-set location. There's a big problem with the electrical system in the 2009 Nissan Murano. A couple of months ago, it cost me over $500 to get the rear hatch door fixed when all of a sudden it locked shut. Of course, there's no way to unlock this manually from inside the vehicle and this could be a potential safety hazard.

44 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2012

Passenger door won't open.

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2011

10 minutes after vehicle was parked, with doors locked and windows rolled up, my wife was alerted by a passerby that her car was on fire. Fire started in the forward passenger compartment and spread thru the passenger compartment very rapidly. Vehicle was a total loss. Vehicle had no aftermarket work and had not been involved in any accidents. All service work was performed by a certified Nissan dealer on schedule. Progressive insurance investigated and found owner not to be at fault (claim #11114682 was paid). I have requested Nissans internal investigation root cause analysis report to determine cause of fire, but they will not release the information to me. I feel they have something to hide . Nissan poc trish page 615 725 7052 she would not pass me up the chain at Nissan so that I could speak to someone other than her. Concern is there maybe other incidences of Nissan Murano fires that are not being reported. I was lucky that the fire occurred outside the home and not in the garage at my house where it is always parked.

46 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2011

Power door locks do not work on two of the doors -- driver's door and right rear passenger door. One door lock stopped working last week; the other door lock stopped working yesterday. Rear door cannot be locked to keep our children in -- a safety issue -- and it has to be locked manually. In the event of an accident, I will be unable to unlock the door and allow the children to escape; again, a safety issue.

47 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/25/2010

At about 65,000 miles the driver door lock actuator quit working. All 4 door lock actuators actuators quit working shortly after. This is a safety issue because my child's door could be opened now since they no longer will lock automatically. I am afraid to manually lock the doors in the case of an car accident in which we were incapable of getting out of the car to save him, then emergency personnel could easily open doors if actuators worked. The unlock buttons will not work. Also, my wife travels through dangerous neighborhoods in which she should be able to lock all doors without pulling off the road. The lock buttons will not work. Please help!.

48 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2010

Our vehicle is a 2009 Nissan Murano sl with relatively low mileage. Around November of 2010 the door lock actuators began to randomly fail to work on this vehicle. Over a period of several months the malfunctioning door lock actuators spread to all four of the doors on this car. I have contacted two different dealerships after having learned that this is a very common failure on multiple year models of Nissans. Both dealers explained there was no recall and that the repairs would likely run $1200 to $1800 to fix all four doors. Living in the houston area and having a grandchild, this is an extremely dangerous situation. Nissan should be required to recall the vehicles suffering from this defect. Other vehicles that I have owned for many years never suffered a failure of such a critical component. The price dealers are charging for this repair is outrageous in light of the fact that it is so critical to safety. The inability to quickly and safely lock a vehicle invites occupants to be ejected in the event of a crash and makes occupants of the vehicle much more vulnerable to car jacking or other forced entry crimes. Please look into the frequency and severity of this issue and force Nissan to acknowledge this very significant defect in their vehicles.

49 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2010

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. While the vehicle was being serviced, the contact was informed that the tire pressure monitoring system was corroded. The contact called the manufacturer and was told that her vehicle was not included in recall 09v393000 (tires: pressure monitoring and regulating systems). The current and failure mileages were approximately 55,000.

50 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2009

The vehicle cvt becomes unstable. Vehicle unexpectedly loses power at times. Got off highway ramp and came to a normal stop. Stepped on accelerator to move into traffic. Vehicle hesitated and crawled slowely into traffic for 5 to 10 seconds before surging forward with accelerator to the floor. Nearly t-boned on several occasions. Have gone through 4 transmissions so far and the dealership is contemplating another replacement. I have no confidence another transmission will fix the problem since the same dangerous failure mode keeps showing up totally without warning.

51 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2008

Service engine soon light goes on and off depending on whether or not I've filled the car with gas or opened/closed the lift gate. I've taken it in to Nissan and they can reset it but that's about it. It eventually goes out again. I was told to take the fuel cap off and then place it back on and then if that didn't make it go out then open and close the lift gate.

52 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2008

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. While driving approximately 60 mph at night, on normal road conditions, the exterior headlights shut off without warning. The contact had to make several attempts before the headlights re-activated. The failure recurred three times, but the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The wiper washer and dimmer switch were replaced under the factory service warranty. The failure mileage was 609 and current mileage was 1,350. Updated 1/5/09 updated 01/09/09.
