2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2025

We bought our 2009 Murano new back when we were expecting our baby cause it was rated one of the safest SUV on the market. For the most part besides some brake issues and the steering linkage that I had scheduled to have replaced last month its treated us well. Last month with our now 17yr old daughter I took it to go to a concert an hr from our house. On the highway I felt it swaying which I found weird cause it was swaying from the rear of the vehicle not the front where the linkage is. We drove home slowly and the next day I dropped it off at our mechanics to have the linkage replaced and asked him to check out the sway I felt. He immediately called me after he got it on the lift and said I needed to head to the shop that our SUV was junk! when I got there I could not believe my eyes and thanked god that I and even more my daughter made it home safely. My mechanic of 35yrs in business said we were lucky we didn't end up in the woods on the highway and that the entire rear k member/ frame is completely rotted out and the rear tires could have flown off at any moment. I have read that there is a recall on this issue but not in the salt belt states. That is ridiculous and is an excuse to not have to back your vehicle. We live in dartmouth MA and have barely had any snow in the past 10 yrs to salt for and even if we had this hasn't happen to any other vehicles we own. 2003gmc, 2006 SAAB and my wifes Jeep all gd. Whats the point of getting a safety check during the annual inspection when you know your frame is junk and its a death trap!how in good faith can you not back your products when this is clearly a major issue. Nissan needs to do the right thing and take care of the people who have taken care of them by buying there vehicles. This vehicle has always been meticulously maintained, washed constantly at car wash with the extra fee of undercarriage spray for what when its rotting from the inside out as you are aware off. Make it a recall before people get killed!.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2024

When starting my vehicle, it would shake and hesitate to turn on. While driving, it would hesitate when accelerating. When driving at 70 miles, the vehicle would hesitate then drop 3 to 4 miles below speed on its own. The dashboard would indicate drive mode then change to reverse mode then back to drive mode, then reverse mode continuously while driving. The car was also making a loud clanking noise. When I was at a standstill at a red light with foot on the brake, the car was jerking forward on its own. I was driving the car with my 2 year old when this happened and decided to take it to a mechanic who confirmed that it is a transmission problem as well as a broken axle on the left. I left the car at his shop and started shopping around for a transmission replacement which is very costly. My concern is, if this has been a faulty issue with 2009 Nissan Murano transmissions, then it is likely that this can happen again if I purchase a used transmission which at this time, I cannot afford so it is sitting at the mechanics repair shop until I either save money for a transmission or use the money to get a better used vehicle. At this time I have to take my mom to work and use her car so I can go to work. I’ve been doing this for the past 2 weeks and unsure as to how much longer I can keep doing this as our work hours are conflicting.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2023

Tire pressure monitoring system is not working although the air pressure is kept as requested. The light is always on which makes identification of loss of air pressure difficult to dictate, and can cause loss of vehicle control and serious damage in highways.

While trying to make a turn in a busy intersection, the car stall and loses power it goes into a limp mode. The car slowly limps out of traffic to the side. Note vdc off and 2 red - neg sign brake light is on. Turn the ignition off for a few minutes. Turn ignition back on and no problem. The car starts up no problem. I had the brakes check out and no issues. I took to Nissan dealership . They said it is the alternator. I had new alternator put in 6 months ago. Took back to the company who put the alternator on he said it is working. They said this car notorious for the cvt transmission issues. This problem has happen twice in traffic. This is not safe. . . . I am afraid to drive this car.

8 Equipment problem

I brought this vehicle from a car dealership in cash. The dealership told me everything is working fine within the car since it's a used car. I've only used it 3 weeks from the date I brought it now it not running anymore. Tried to get ahold of the dealership they don't answer any of my calls.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2021

Passenger seat airbag code keeps flashing on with b1018 code present. Read that this is a common issue with Nissan vehicles and that’s it’s possible there is a recall.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2021

Got car on June 15 after 3:30. Five hours later the car would not reverse or drive forward. Sound like gears would not shift. And the car was also dropped of to me with no antifreeze. I found codes: p1700, p0868, p1778, p0746 and top motors who I bought the car from towed the car to fix it but has not told me what was wrong with the car. I have not heard from them and I missed one and a half day of work. They gave me a 6 month warranty but it should have been 2 year warranty. They said it will take at least a week to get it back to me. I have been without my car for 5 days. The car was on carfax website. I would like a 2 year warranty and half of the money back of what I paid for the car.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2021

On 2/19/21 I was driving my 2009 Murano on a windy morning down I-90 (issaquah) on at around 65mph in the slow lane, and my closed sunroof glass disengaged and blew off the car, luckily no one was behind me at the time, else it could have been catastrophic. I think this should be cause for a recall, or at least replacement by Nissan corp. There was no indication of an issue, and we've owned the vehicle for about 8 years. It makes me even wearier than I'm am regarding the issue of "following distance" for cars. It could happen to anybody, and it will happen again, most likely to someone--perhaps with dire consequences I spoke with Nissan service in kirkland, wa and was told that it was "most likely handled by insurance" and that "there was nothing Nissan could do for me. ".

13 Equipment problem

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2019

Recently, a problem arose with my 2009 Nissan Murano's occupant classification system (OCS). The airbag light in my car had turned on so I brought it to the mechanic. After numerous efforts, he suggested that I bring it to the local Nissan dealer. When I did, they were at a loss as to what to do. At the time, I called Nissan north America (nna) to see if there was anything they could do. After registering my concerns, nna apparently made some inquiries of the dealer and then told me that the car was out of warranty. I brought it back to my mechanic, who reassembled the passenger seat and, surprisingly, the airbag light went off. This solution was only temporary. I brought it to my mechanic again, who discovered a recall campaign on an identical issue which included my car's make and model. Specifically, Nissan recall campaign bulletin ntb08-095, issued 11/4/2008. (also see id #: p8242, NHTSA #: 08v-521. ) my mechanic again referred me to the dealer, who told me that occupant sensor performed pin test and found internal failure with occupant sensor. I then contacted Nissan and opened a case regarding my situation (#37964757). I received a response that the OCS in my car was somehow different from those that were covered by the recall. However, when my problems are so similar to those described by the recall bulletin, and the same test that is used for the recall found issues with my car, I don't see why cars with the same OCS as mine should not be covered by the campaign. There is no reason not to. It is the same make and model of the recall and is suffering from the same issue. I don't understand why one group of cars is covered but another is not even though both groups are afflicted by the same problems. I hope that the scope of the recall can be expanded to include all cars that, like mine, pose a potential safety hazard to their drivers and passengers.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2019

Air bag warning light started flashing and does not go off. Dealer (lancaster Nissan) tested the vehicle and stated that sensor or seat sensor could be bad. They were able to turn off warning light, but it started again the next time I drove the car. Estimates to replace sensor ($1,500) and seat sensor ($4,500) seem extremely high. Vehicle has only 39,000 miles and was purchased new. Dealer stated there is no open recall despite research showing 100's of 2009 Muranos with the same issue and a prior recall on earlier Muranos and Infiniti's - clearly the same manufacturing defect. Have not taken an action to repair at this point,.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2019

Drivers door will not unlock. Vechile was parked. Took to my mechanic and he could not unlock. Tried with remote, and key. Will not unlock from inside or outside the car. Still locked and will not unlock.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2019

I was driving down the highway. There were no warning lights on my dashboard aside from the tpms light. There was a loud pop noise, so I pulled over to check it out. Within 30 seconds smoke came from under the hood and quickly turned from white to black. Then the vehicle caught on fire. It was completely burned with nothing but the trunk left in tact.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2019

While driving my 2009 Nissan Murano approximately 60 mph on I-5 from portland, or to my home in washington the front part of my sunroof shattered for no apparent reason. There was an explosive sound before shards of glass rained down on the inside of my car. My sunroof was closed at the time but the shade part was open. Some of the shards measured approximately 6 inches in length. It was a nice sunny day out and the approximate time of the incident was 6:00 pm. There were no overpasses in the vicinity where the incident occurred. I was not traveling near any dump trucks or other vehicles that was carrying any cargo. I could find no evidence of flying debris to cause the glass to shatter. I have contacted Nissan dealership in my area and was quoted a price of $1,311. 00 plus taxes to replace the shattered glass. Fortunately, I was the only person in the vehicle at the time and was able to get over from the 2nd lane to the side of the road to deal with the large amounts of shattered glass that was found in both the front and back seats of my car. It was a very unnerving situation to be in and I did look to if see any other drivers in the area appeared to be effected by my sunroof shattering. I did not see evidence that any other drivers were effected by my sunroof shattering. I did take several photos of the shattered glass for my records. I have also kept larger fragments of the shattered glass for evidentiary purposes because I will be sending a demand letter to Nissan to cover the cost based on previous reports I have just now found out about. I don't feel my Murano is safe to drive knowing that the sunroof may explode again for no apparent reason. I will be driving with my shade closed on my sunroof which defeats purpose of having a sunroof but safety comes first.

Moonroof exploded going 65mph down a 4 lane highway.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2018

Brake pedal needs to go down to the floor in order to stop. I was driving on a neighborhood street applied brakes ahead of a stop sign before entering a 2 lane georgetown rd. Highway. Zip 28469 to make a right turn. When approaching next light 1 mile away I was afraid the brakes would fail. . Brakes went back to normal now. Still do not trust car. Yesterday, April 16, 2018as checked by car repair business and said the abs computer activator was not working. Nisssan would not let him access abs computer t0o reset numbers. This is very expensive to repair and should not be a problem. I am scared to drive this car. Read this has been investigated since may 2017. Is there a recall on 2009 Nissan Murano yet? please contact us about your investigation results.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2018

Brake pedal lost pressure and pedal went to the floor causing a very long stopping distance. Intermittent problem. Appears to happen when I skid slightly while stopping like on sand on the road and it causes the abs to kick in but it will not disengage. Too to mechanic to have it checked, turned it off and later when they went to check it the pedal had returned.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2017

The rear sub frame has rusted so much that the passenger side control arm for the wheel is loose, and the drivers side control arm broke away. There is surface rust on other components under the vehicle, but this part of the frame has completely deteriorated and renders the vehicle unusable unless the subframe and control arms are replaced. Nissan consumer affairs will not address the problem other than to state that the vehicle is out of warranty. However, online research and information from my auto repair shop tell me that this is a common problem with Murano's.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

The abs system fails without warning leading to sudden loss of braking while driving.

30 Equipment problem

Split upper and lower lip both needing stitches. Do to the damage sustained and the airbags being deployed my insurance company found the car unrepairable and a total loss.

32 Equipment problem

Traveling down I-5 at 60mph,75 degrees outside, the front sunroof glass literally exploded outward. We thought we had been shot, a very scary and dangerous experience.

33 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2015

I was told by the dealership that my 2009 Nissan Murano has a bad leak in the transfer case, and that it will take 15 hours of labor to fix a $130 gasket. After reading the complaint forums for Nissan Murano, I have learned this is a very common problem with Muranos. I have contacted Nissan to cover the repair work as this is a known and common issue with their Muranos, and my vehicle is now off warranty. They refused to assist, stating that they are unaware of any such issues with the Murano. They are in complete denial. Why isn't this a recall if it is such a wide-spread problem?.

34 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2015

Nissan refuses to recognize a known problem in the Nissan rogue in it's big brother the Nissan Murano. The door actuator solenoid goes out and locks people into or out of their car, where the remote, key, door handle or crowbar cannot open the door causing a potentially fatal safety issue. If a passenger is unable to leave the vehicle in an emergency it could result in fatalities. I brought it to the dealership who offered to break my door panel to assess the issue, a $300+ expense to me, not to mention the labor breaking my door panel. Once they were able to get into my door, they determined it was the actuator solenoid, which is a know rogue service order problem, and told me that would be an additional $575 to replace. I had started a case with Nissan USA corporation regarding this, their response, "we'll see what we can do to help. " they did nothing. Disappointing.

35 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2015

Passenger door locked shut. Cannot open from the outside or the inside. Pregnant passenger had to climb over center counsel to get out of the vehicle. Once I googled the issue, the 2008-2009 Nissan rogue & Muranos have this issue, a service order was created for the rogue, but not the Murano.
