1 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2020

Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while pressing the brake pedal the vehicle would not immediately stop. The brake pedal had extended to the floor and the stopping distance was extend. The vehicle was taken an independent mechanic who replaced both the front and rear brakes, abs module and master cylinder but the failures continued to occur. The manufacturer and local dealer (unknown) was notified of the failure but no assistance ws offered. The failure mileage was 120,800. Jft.

2 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2020

On Feb. 6th 2020 I was driving my 2011 Nissan Murano (62,000 miles) at 55 mph when I came upon some traffic. When I applied the breaks they went to the floor & I had to pull onto the grass & pump the brakes till the car finally came to a stop. I was 250 miles from home so I stopped at a firestone store to check out my brakes. 5 hours later, the car was ready--they bled the air from the brake lines & when I got back on the road everything was okay. On may 29th, 2020, I was driving & coming on to a road construction crew. I went over 2 sets of speed bumps & when I applied the breaks, they went to the floor. I pumped the brakes & applied the emergency brake to stop the car because there was traffic stopped in front of me. I took the car to my local mechanic & they installed a new master cylinder & bled the brake lines 3 different times. They had the car for 1 week & the car would not stop at slow speeds till the brake pedal was almost to the floor. The car is not safe to drive. On the internet, I can see the numerous complaints about braking on the 2011 Murano. There was a recall on the 2009 models & I think the 2015 models. Nissan needs to step up & correct the problem on the 2011 models. This is a very dangerous situation that requires a recall of the 2011 models. Right now the vehicle is sitting in the garage because the dealership is 65 miles away & the car is not safe to drive.

3 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2019

I was exiting the highway when a car abruptly pulled in front of me and I had step on the brakes with great force to stop in time without crashing. Immediately afterwards when I had to use the brakes again at a red light, I had to push down the brake pedal almost all the way down to the floor to stop the car. The brakes felt spongey and provided almost no resistance to my foot as I pressed down. The issue persisted for a few days before I took it to a local mechanic. They tried several of the standard fixes when this type of brake issue arises, including going as far as to replace the master cylinder, which did not fix the issue. The brake issue only was resolved once they put the car in the air, accelerated, and pumped the brakes multiple times which eventually, somehow brought the brakes back to normal capacity. The mechanic says he has seen this issue in many Nissan Muranos and he speculates that the these models have a faulty abs sensor module which causes the brakes to lock up if used too hard. I've had this issue 3 times in the last 2 years, this was the first time the brakes had stayed unusable for several days, posing a major safety issue. I've read online on many websites and have read this same issue being had by other 2011 Nissan Murano owners. The abs sensor module can cost up to $2,000 just for the part itself. With so many complaints, Nissan should issue a recall to repair this major safety issue before someone's brakes go out on the highway and cause a loss of life.

4 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2019

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Nissan Murano sl. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, attempted to slow down, when the brake pedal was depressed, it traveled all the way down to the floor. The contact started to pump the brake pedal untill the vehicle stopped. No warning indicators illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred for at least two months. The vehicle was taken to an unknown independent mechanic, they replaced the master cylinder ( that did not correct the failure ). The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 51,499. Bp.

5 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2019

Without warning, brakes begin to feel spongy, have to press brake pedal almost to floor before response. Several close calls now as a result of intermittent changed braking performance. As a result, had brakes checked, fluid drained, master cylinder replaced, brake lines drained, no change in performance. Not comfortable driving car, feels unsafe.

6 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2019

Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while turn into a parking lot, another vehicle pull out in front of the vehicle, the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to stop. The contact had to swirl around the vehicle. The contact stated that she was driving slow and quickly turn into a parking space and shifted the gear into park. No warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was later driving to the contact residence and four days after was taken to cardinale Nissan dealer (1661 del monte blvd, seaside, CA 93955, (831) 322-4115) where a test drive was performed, the failure recurred. The technician informed the contact that the antilock brake and master cylinder failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,167. Aw.

7 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2019

While attempting to stop from an approximate 30 miles per hour speed, the brake petal travelled nearly all the way to the floor board. The vehicle did eventually slow to a stop but not until I nearly struck the car in front of me. After that, the problem was intermittent. I brought the car to my mechanic who checked the master cylinder and determined the the problem was a defective abs control module. I have seen recalls for defective abs on Murano model years up to 2009 and then again after 2015. However, my 2011 model year falls in the "recall gap" and is not covered. Although abs problems for the 2011 Murano are documented on multiple internet websites, Nissan has not issued an additional recall covering the other model years such as mine. So the expensive repair costs and responsibility for accidents and injuries fall upon the unsuspecting owners of the defective vehicles. Nissan should immediately issue a recall and get the dangerous condition repaired before others find themselves without the ability to safely stop their cars.

8 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2019

All of a sudden while driving my 2011 Nissan Murano and after driving over a slight bump on a city street in my neighborhood going about 10 mph maybe a little more I was in the process slowing down and making a u turn right in front of my house so I could park in front of our house (thank god!) my brakes failed they went to the floor very suddenly and after re-pumping brakes, I got control and was able to park my Murano. Wth is going on Nissan?? this was scary and I don't wish on this on anyone. My kids drive this car too. Does somebody have to be killed in order to get attention on this safety issue Nissan? this needs to pro-active not re-active. We buy and drive your cars to feel safe not be scared I'm gonna hit a small bump and lose my brakes. The bump and the point where I turned around and lost braking control could not of been more than 75-100 feet away. After parking I checked my master cylinder and the brake fluid looked fine and full. I had no leaks. I am in absolute aww! at what just happened. Someone with authority please investigate this because is gonna get hurt bad or get killed. C. Herrera soon to be ex-owner of this Nissan Murano unless it gets fixed or recalled.

9 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2018

When the vehicle is in motion on city streets, the brake pedal goes to the floor when trying to stop. The vehicle can stop but with a fraction of the braking ability. The pedal continues to push all the way to the floor even when pumping the pedal. It corrects on its own after an hour or so. 4 occasions occurred after hitting a bump. 1 occasion occurred when the abs engaged after hitting a patch of ice. The master cylinder has been replaced (I saved the old one) and the brake pads have been replaced and the problem continues. It has only occurred about 5 times over a span of about 1year so it is very difficult to intentionally repeat and diagnose. Internet research points to a possible sticking abs modulator valve.

10 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2017

As I was driving down the road I went over a speed bump and my brakes went all the way down to the floorboard. I was not going fast at the time this occurred. This has happened twice now, and I was told the master cylinder and brake booster needed to be replaced. Now I am out a vehicle until I can pay $1300 to get it replaced. My warranty just expired and now I am screwed. My brakes are still not working properly and did not go back to normal.

11 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2016

My wife's Nissan Murano had been having problems with the brakes going all the way down to the floor. I took it in to Nissan dealership to get checked out finally the guy there told me that the brakes didn't act up on them so they can't diagnose the problem and that so far everything looks good. I left thinking maybe it was just the brakes getting worn out. About five months later it happened again while she was driving home. She said she was going 40 and she suddenly had no brakes having to put her vehicle on park so she wouldn't hit the vehicle infront of her finally she had no brakes and had to move her car using the emergency brake on and off untill she reached a shopping center ahead. I went to pick the truck up and the brakes were working fine again. Then I called Nissan explained what happened and they told me they had no record of them ever taking a look at the truck. And that my factory warranty has finally expired so the master cylinder isn't covered which is what's wrong with the brakes supposively. I'm aware that the master cylinder completely stops working when it goes bad but for it to work and sometimes not work sounds very strange. I have read online that many people have had the same problem with this particular vehicle and thy say it starts not working six months after changing themaster cylinder. I called Nissan for recalls but they don't have anything for this vehicle. I don't understand how so many people have had the same problem and Nissan hasn't looked into addressing the problem. We need something done about this because they charge me 900$ plus to replace when I had obviously told them the vehicle was acting up during the time of my warranty.

12 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2015

The contact owns a 2011 Nissan Murano. While driving approximately 20 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where the technician confirmed the failure but the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.

13 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2015

While driving my Nissan Murano 2011, the car lost its brakes while driving on the road. I started pumping the brakes until they started working, but deffective. I went to Nissan center and they told me that they had to change the master cylinder and he wasn't surprised. Told me that this was not their first case, but there were no recalls, so I have to pay $600 for a new master cylinder.
