3 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 09/24/2013

Bought the car, used in 2009. For at least two years chargers in car did not work. Within last six months fuel gauge became inaccurate. There was another incident where the car just stopped, will look for details. But 9/24/13 driving up a hill, car came out of gear and stopped working. The part that was ultimately replaced was the instrument panel-part number 24820-cc20a. Apparently, panel was not communicating with transmission properly. Dealer charged us $1150 to replace. Neither service manager or service coordinator has seen one which needed to be replaced. Nissan accepts no responsibility. Yes, internet full of comments about issues with transmission and instrument panel. These failures appear to be the result of faulty soldering or welding of connections.

4 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

The vehicle was not driving well and the fuel sensor was not working properly. We took the vehicle to an independent repair shop. The lower control arms were replaced at that time, however the fuel sensor was not as it was an additional expense we could not pay for out of pocket. These are both known problems to Nissan and have already been recalled on other SUV's of the same model year. In speaking to Nissan there is nothing they are willing to do to ensure the safety of the vehicle or to reimburse us for the repair already made.

5 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 09/20/2012

I was in stop/go traffic during rush hour. When I pressed the gas pedal to accelerate from a stop, nothing happened. I pumped the gas pedal to the floor 3 or 4 times and suddenly the car lurched forward and then started moving. The next time I came to a stop, I had to repeat the pumping of the gas pedal to move again. I did this several times and each time the car would lurch forward. When I could safely pull over, I turned off the engine and waited a couple of minutes. When I restarted the engine and pressed the gas pedal, everything was normal. I can go several months with everything being fine and then all of a sudden it will happen again. I haven't taken it to a dealer because there is nothing to indicate when it will happen and since everything is fine after the engine is turned off and then started again, how do I recreate the issue for a mechanic? this has the potential to be very dangerous because I never know when it's going to happen and the lurching forward has almost caused me to hit the vehicle in front of me on several occasions. I have seen numerous complaints about this problem on various blogs and on this website. In the qualifier above it asks if there has been a crash, fire or fatality. Please tell me why one of these horrific things has to happen before there is a recall on a very dangerous issue with a vehicle? a car not accelerating in traffic and then suddenly lurching forward should not be the owner's responsibility or cost to repair. It should be the responsibility and cost of the manufacturer to make sure they are selling a safe vehicle.

6 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 06/15/2012

We owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. While starting the car, we noticed that the fuel gauge failed to display an accurate fuel level reading. The malfunction occurred whenever the vehicle was started or in motion or when ac was on prior to starting the car. After this issue the service engine soon light illuminated also. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated to us that fuel level sensors would need to be replaced. The authorized dealer mentioned other cars have had same problem and this model might be covered under a recall but it was not based on the VIN number. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The dealer will charge $450 to repair the issue which is an issue for other Nissan cars. We are paying the dealer to fix the issue but this should not be charged to customer if the issue is with other Nissan cars.

8 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

Fuel gauge started to failed and check engine light turned on. Failed the state inspection due to emissions. I took the vehicle to the dealer and quoted for replace the two failing fuel sending units $99 to inspect + $700 part & labor. Of course is not covered by Nissan. How many other brands beside Nissan have you seen with this problem? I am simply appalled by the lack of concern from Nissan. After reading complaints about seat collapsing, wheel bearing going out, visors falling blocking the view of the driver, steering hoses braking causing fire, in vehicles with low mileage I cannot believe Nissan does not identify this as a safety issues and allows the consumer to pay for these faulty components. The fact that Nissan does not stand up behind their products is an insult to everyone who bought this product. Nissan offers no assistance despite the clear premature failure of the components. This is my first and last Nissan vehicle. Writing letter to the ceo, vice president total customer satisfaction, vice president manufacturing quality and parts & service Nissan north America, inc.

9 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

10 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 04/01/2011

Have had a problem of the accelerator hesitating from a complete stop and then suddenly going forward. When pressing gas pedal nothing would happen when almost pressing all the way and then it would take off. This happened for several miles and then went back to normal. This happened again on wed. Dec. 21, 2011. The gas pedal again was not responding when pressed and I could sense that the response of the gas pedal to the speed of vehicle was not working properly. I took to Nissan dealer the first time and they could not detect any problem and gave me no reason why this might be happening. I feel this is dangerous to the occupants of this auto and others on the road should the speed of vehicle suddenly change and loss of control occur.

12 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 08/01/2010

My 2004 Nissan Murano awd se front driver seat broke . I took it out and paid to have a guy weld it . Others have told me that it is a common Murano problem . Some suggested that it is already a Nissan recall issue but I can't get any info to prove it . It still flops around . Also the front wheel bearing went at 75k miles but that's another problem . The doors lock automatically if you slam the door sometimes . Imagine jumping out of the car to put mail in the box and when you come back it's locked ? dealer said he fixed it . . . He didn't . The tail gate back door latch sticks . Also the metal rim of the gasoline filler neck got rusty and pitted . Consequently the gas cap didn't seal properly and the check engine light came on . The dealer wanted 800 dollars to change the filler neck . I sanded it and fixed it for nothing .

13 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Nissan Murano

14 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 06/25/2010

Car: 2003 Nissan Murano sl awd summary: catastrophic loss of power / stalling during driving details: there are multiple issues - all reported to Nissan - which promptly declined to do anything to address them since the car was out of warranty. However it's clear that several other 2003 Nissan Murano owners are reporting the "catastrophic" stall problem - a simple google search bears this out. To me it seems that Nissan is washing its hands off the problem. Here are some symptoms: 1) when driving on the freeway a couple of days ago, the car catastrophically lost power for several seconds - only to somewhat recover thereafter. At the time of recovery manylights on the dashboard lit up including "check engine" "awd lock / slip" etc. This incident happened three times in a row - and I called Nissan for help. 2) I live in san francisco. When waiting at a stop sign to cross uphill, the car simply does not respond when I press on the gas pedal and starts rolling downhill instead. 3) similarly in stop and go situations - the car simply does not respond to the gas pedal - and then when it finally does lurches forward in a dangerous, out-of-control fashion increasing the chances of rear-ending the car ahead.

23 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 10/31/2008

Did a throttle body cleaning on a Nissan Murano and the check engine light came on. The dealer said it was a money maker and many shop that clean the throttle body have to come to them for the re-learning of the idle air control valve. This is crazy ,I have done this on my Porsche and my fords and chevy and have never had this happen. Nissan should have a warning sticker on the throttle body to see manual -the manual should state do not clean or you will need to go to dealer to re-learn the idle air control system.

24 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/30/2008

Failure involves loss of power when the gas pedal is depressed. This problem occurs after car is warmed up and then put in a stop and go driving environment (heavy city traffic). Car will lurch forward, but only after pedal is depressed close to the half way point. This obviously is a dangerous situation and I have so far avoided accident by allowing distance between myself and the car in front. Problem occurs 70-80% of time aforementioned circumstances are present. Nissan dealer says problem would be very difficult to diagnose because no warning light appears on dashboard.

25 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 11/25/2007

I put the back tailgate up in my 2004 Nissan Murano to put my granddaughters' belongings in to take them home. I walked to the back seat area to put something in the back seat, when I heard a huge whooshing sound and suddenly the entire door slammed down. Luckily I wasn't near it or I could have been killed. The door is very heavy and it slammed down with quite a force. There was a strong smell of a vaporized nature in the car. Now the door is very difficult to open and requires both hands to do so. Evidently one of the hydraulic struts went out. This poses a significant danger to anyone nearby. I have called the dealer and am taking it in today. They were very non-committal about it being something they would repair without cost. They did say it was a very rare occurrence. I am very concerned about this incident and want to report it. If others are not aware, there could be a very serious accident. I am concerned about my own safety as well.

26 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/22/2007

I ran off the left side of a mountain road hitting a large tree with the driver's door, then continued down the hill another ~20 feet slamming into a boulder. When I hit the tree, the driver's door window broke as well as the driver's side rear door. The door was jammed shut. The Nissan was equipped with front side impact airbags and both front and rear head protection airbags. None were deployed. When I hit the boulder, the front passenger airbag deployed, but the driver's front airbag failed to deploy. The pre-tensioner on the driver's seatbelt did not latch resulting in me hitting my upper chest and lower jaw on the steering wheel since the airbag did not deploy. The fuel cut-off device also failed to activate and shut off the engine. After almost a minute, I turned off the engine with the key. I had been knocked unconscious for several seconds. The 2004 Nissan Murano sustained over $25,000 in damage which resulted in it being totaled by my insurance company. The airbag light would illuminate briefly when starting the car prior to the accident. So there was no indication of an airbag malfunction. There was substantial damage to the driver's side of the vehicle as well as the front and undercarriage. My injuries were limited to bruises to my chest and lower jaw. The accident also greatly aggravated a prior injury to my upper back. When I went to go remove my personal belongings from the vehicle, I found that the jack, mounted in the rear floor had come completely out.

27 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 12/28/2006

Fuel door will not release.

28 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2003 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 10/09/2006

My Nissan Murano 2003 has had this problem 3 months after I bought it. I was on a hill in san francisco and came to a stop sign. All of the sudden the car would not move forward when I stepped on the accelerator; instead it started rolling backward. It was very scary. I turned off the car and restarted and the car responded fine. I thought it was just a fluk. Then 5 months later, I was in a stop and of traffic on i80 on my way to lake tahoe. The car refuse to move when I stepped on the accelerator again. I started pressing harder and it lurched forward. It did that over and over again in the stop and go traffic. I finally pulled over and cut off the engine and started back up; the car responded fine thereafter. However, it kept repeating the same problem; each time I will resolve it by restarting the car. Luckily, it was under warranty so it was replaced at no cost to me. The car performed without further problem until 2006. The problem reared its ugly head. I took it back in and they said it was a bad battery. So we had that changed, but the problem came back. The mechanic reset the car computer and the problem went away. Again, it didn't really cost me much other than the battery. Then in 2009, the car again started doing the lurching thing in stop and go traffic. It's always in the same situation. I knew I was out of warranty by then and it would cost me an arm and a leg so I just dealt with it by restarting the car each time and pray the traffic will move faster soon. It's now 2011 and the problem remains. After reading all the complaints from past Nissan Murano owners, I really think Nissan owes us some money. It should've been a recall since most of us paid $35k+ for this car. My car now has 145k miles. I am in the market for a new car. I like the cvt. Maybe will try a Subaru instead.
