1 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 01/04/2012

Just like all of the other complaints that I have been reading, when I attempt to put gas in my Murano I'm unable to put gas in by the nozzle. The only way I can get a full tank of gas is to keep clicking continuously until it's full. However, now I have a lot of back splash of gas and to me this very dangerous to me and others. Nissan should immediately have a recall on this problem before it cause an unnecessary accident or death. If this is a manufactured problem then it should be dealt with accordingly and respectively. I went by my local Nissan dealership concerning the problem and the only solution was given to try different pumps, hold the trigger gently, and it's cold outside it will do this more often. What type of resolution is this??????.

7 Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 04/22/2011

In 2006 we received a recall letter about Nissan having problems with the fuel tank. We had the protection guard installed by Nissan as per NHTSA recall. In April 2011 we were driving on highway and hit something small in the road that punctured the fuel tank. The item was so small no one in the car saw it. The protective shielding, which was a thin piece of plastic, shattered and failed to protect the tank.

Failure Date: 08/05/2010

Fuel level sensor circuit, fuel tank assembly, fuel level circuit sensor high input car will not pass emissions testing Nissan USA does not respond to phone calls or call back regarding request for recall. This item was recalled on several other Nissan's , but not the Murano. Nissan states emissions control warranty on fuel systems is only for 3 years and my time is over since the car is now 5 years old . Since July of 2010 67,000 miles the tank has been telling me I am empty when I reach half a tank of gas the car thinks its empty, I had no intention of fixing it since I know how much gas is in the car but now that it won't pass emissions testing, I test every 2 years and sept 15, 2011 car went in for testing and failed due to this fuel problem, due to cost to fix, I have dealt with poor fuel economy and fuel sensor/gauge malfunction but now I can't put my car on the road anymore due to not passing emissions and not being able to renew my license plates. [xxx] now has exactly 73,000 miles on it. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

12 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/10/2010

My 2006 Murano was bought used, shortly after buying, I had difficulty putting gas into it, pump kept shutting off, it only happened occasionally, so I did nothing about it, but did look it up to see there was a "service bulletin" now every time I pump gas it will do this, so I will be contacting Nissan about it to get this fixed, as I should not have to pay for this. Apparently there are many others w/ this same problem, it needs to be recalled. Have had a few instances where gas would spill back out of the tank and all over the side of the car and on the ground, this is a very serious safety issue.

14 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 04/24/2010

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) 2006 Nissan Murano s awd VIN # [xxx]. The check engine light came on at the end of March 2010. I scheduled my car to be looked at in the beginning of April. Prior to the appt, I noticed a major discrepancy between the 2 fuel instrument gauges. Whenever fuel would be down to around a quarter of a tank of gas, one or both of the gauges/electronic display would show any where from 1/2 a tank of fuel to completely empty. After bringing the car in for service in April, I was informed that my factory warranty had run out, and that my after market warranty purchased from that dealership, didn't cover the repair needed. I was advised that my check engine light and fuel gauge/electronic display was due to a defective fuel sender(fuel level sending unit). I was told that the sensor(s) needed to be replaced and that with parts and labor, the estimated repair cost would be $450. After researching the problem myself, I found that Nissan is having many problems with this same issue in other models the same model year, 2006. I contacted Nissan and found that no recalls on this issue are being taken at this time. I feel that given the large-scale recall (540,000 vehicles mostly in the us) in place for several other models, same year, same problem, it stands to reason that my model should be included in this recall. I have not as of yet run out of fuel on the roadway but that is mainly due to constantly keeping the tank at least half full to ensure the safety of my family. I have not yet repaired the vehicle at my expense in hopes that the NHTSA will make Nissan extend its recall, as it should.

15 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 04/06/2010

The problem is trying to put gas into my vehicle the nozzle on the gas pump will shut of and spit gas back today I had a puddle of gas on the ground this has happened to me and my husband repeatedly have registered a complaint with the dealer and with the Nissan company directly. I have talked to other people with the same car, model and this has happened to them too. You have to keep turning the nozzle on and moving it around in the gas tank trying to find a position where the nozzle won't shut off or spit the gas back at you. This is the 2nd time where I had to come home and change my clothes, gas on my shoes, and pants, hands, arms I consider this to be very dangerous especially when there are people out there who have a cigarette lit at the pumps as illegal as it may be. This has happened at various gas stations so is not the pump at one certain station.

18 Tank Assembly problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 12/28/2008

I was on hwy 10 traveling from houston to nm, headed west just past exist 138 in normal driving conditions. I has just finished fueling up my vehicle and was back on the hwy. I ran over small object in the road that caused a puncture in the back of the fuel tank. I was signaled by passing call to pullover immediately as there was fuel was pouring out of the vehicle , making it an extreme fire hazard & undriveable. I was following behind my boyfriend during this incident who also ran over this same object and nothing happened to his vehicle (BMW). I called Nissan the next day ( I have reference # ) & I was told there was no recall for 2007 regarding fuel tank puncture problems . He said this was a problem for the previous year models and not my model year. The fuel tank does appear however to be exposed and appears to be prone to this problem . There are approx 17500 miles on this 2007 Murano. The fuel tank was patched the next day, and the SUV driven to it's destination without incident, and parked until it could be towed by the dealership for repairs. A new fuel tank will be used to replace the damaged one. The dealership informed me this would not be covered and I should contact my insurance. I am very concerned that this may happen again . This was the 1st time for this vehicle to be driven on the hwy as it was only driven locally on city streets prior. The same object did not cause the same problem for my boyfriends vehicle nor for the other cars who ran over it as well.

19 Tank Assembly problem of the 2003 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 12/26/2008

I own a 2003 Nissan Murano sl awd. The fuel tank shroud was installed in compliance with recall campaign 06v003000. The shroud is of such a bad design that it has broken in normal winter driving. The materials used are too weak and the design does not provide sufficient protection for the tank. Overall, this design is terrible, and does not solve the requirement of protecting the fuel tank. Nissan need to come up with a better design that better conforms to the profile of the fuel tank--the current design protrudes down too far and is too easily damaged.

28 Tank Assembly problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 06/29/2006

About one year ago I filed a complaint with both Nissan and the NHTSA concerning a punctured fuel tank. Nissan informed me that in the event NHTSA required a recall with respect to the fuel delivery system, Nissan would contact me to refund the cost of my repair. On June 29, 2006, I learned that NHTSA had closed the matter on January 31, 2006, with a requirement that Nissan correct the deficiency through a recall campaign. I confirmed with a NHTSA representative that such a campaign had been initiated by Nissan. I never received a recall notice from Nissan. Nor did I receive a communication from Nissan that they would live up to their promise of reimbursement. (they have now said they will do so with proof of repair which can only be confirmed by a Nissan dealer. ) I called Nissan and they asked whether I had moved or changed the registration on the vehicle. I responded no, nothing had changed since I purchased the vehicle new at luther Nissan in inver grove heights, minnesota. The Nissan representative (grace) in hyderabad, india, who did an excellent job of taking my information, informed me that there were not one, but two recalls on the vehicle. The second one concerns the seat belts. I never received notice of this recall either. Here we have not one but two safety-related NHTSA recalls that this Nissan customer (this is my fourth Nissan automobile) has failed to receive the recall notices on. Interestingly, Nissan has no problem with sending my monthly bill for Nissan financing through approximately 25 months to get my bills to me. This is highly troubling and requires immediate correction on Nissan's part.

32 Tank Assembly problem of the 2006 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 05/01/2006

I have a 2006 Nissan Murano sl. The recurring problem I have is that when filling up with gas, the pump stops generally after pumping only 0. 5 gallons to 3 gallons. Often, I can not fill it up anymore at that pump. Sometimes, I can start to fill it up at a slower rate and continue to get the rest of the gas in the tank. This has happened at 7 or 8 different stations in town, at numerous pumps - so it is not a case where 1 pump at a station is pumping too fast (as was used as the initial excuse). I have read in forums of this exact same problem, in addition someone at my dealer has confirmed they have seen this before. Yet my Murano is currently in the shop for the 3rd time since may 2006. They have cleaned the rollover float and are now replacing the tank assembly. One more time qualifies for the lemon law in illinois.

33 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 04/20/2006

: the contact stated the fuel tank leaks. The contact can still smell gas fumes very strongly. 35 Tank Assembly problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 03/26/2006

Today while out of town we were attempting to refill our 2005 Nissan Murano. After I had got beyond the half full point someone at the gas station pointed out that there was something leaking from our vehicle. After closer inspection by myself and then a mechanic at the service station it was noted to have a hole in the gas tank. I am unsure what caused this hole to occur being that we never heard anything actually hit the vehicle. Not only did this put a damper on our weekend getaway but we also found out how little coverage the extended warranty provided to us, which was a shock since we were very pressured into buying this extended warranty and were told that the vehicle would be covered and also that we would have 24 hour roadside assistance. After contacting the Nissan 24hr roadside assistance we learned that we had no coverage.
