5 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 01/07/2014

Yesterday after work, I opened the hatch to the back of my vehicle to remove jumper cables. When I went to close the hatch door, it would not stay closed. I looked closer at the mechanism that locks the door in the closed position, and it was not moving back into the proper position. I thought initially it was due to the cold weather, but even after it was given time to heat up it continued to stay in the open position. I made due by duct taping the hatch closed to make it home. I looked online and saw that thousands of other Murano owners have had issues with their lock actuators on doors, hatches and even the gas cover actuator. It is extremely concerning to me due to the obvious safety hazards that accompany this malfunction.

7 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 05/14/2013

The passenger door behind the drivers door lock does not lock/unlock with using either the fob or when the car starts moving and all the door locks should lock automatically. This is a huge safety issue, either the door is not locked and someone can carjack it or if we had to evacuate the car and we had manually locked this door, anyone sitting in that seat would not be able to get out unless they can unlock it manually themselves, if someone wanted to try and get them out externally, not go to happen! go on any Nissan Murano forum and this is a long term inherent problem with Nissan door locks. , why is this not getting addressed???.

8 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

9 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 01/19/2013

Passenger door does not lock or unlock from the outside. Rear hatch door does not unlock and will not open. I checked online and there are hundreds of complaints about Nissan Murano lock actuators posing problems and not working. Nissan dealerships charge approximately $500 to fix each actuator, which seems extremely unfair considering it appears to be such a common defect. This is not only an unnecessary and preventable problem, but can be an extremely safety hazard.

10 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 01/15/2013

In mid Jan, 2013 I noticed that after locking with the key fob, the front door remained unlocked, and would not lock from inside the car with either the individual lock control or the whole car lock control. The only way to lock the door is with your key, from the outside. In the event of an accident you do not have the added safety of a locked drivers door. All other doors are operating correctly at this time. The web seems to be filled with other problems like this and I wonder if they realize the danger they face when all doors are not locked in the event of an accident.

11 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 01/10/2013

The driver power door lock actuator failed first and few days ago the passenger side, rear power door lock actuator failed.

12 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 12/14/2012

Nissan knowing there is a security problem with their locking mechanism and not recalling them for safety concern is negligent. It's an open door to a lawsuit if someone were to be murdered due to a door that didn't lock, although the driver pushed the lock button and heard the locking noise. Remember, in this case there's no obvious indication the door isn't locked unless someone walks up and opens it from the outside. The drive "thinks" the door is locked, when in reality it's an "open door" for carjacking or robbery. This failure is an intermittent of operation. Sometimes the doors lock ok, other times they don't. In addition, sometimes the doors unlock ok, other times they don't. 3. In emergencies it's important to be able to unlock doors quickly. Since 99% of the time we all use the button to lock and unlock doors, using the manual locking lever is unfamiliar. And the Murano's design is such that it's not easy to comprehend if it's not your car, for instance a rental car. I can easily understand how some people would be confused how unlock a door using the manual level in an emergency when they virtually have no experience with it. In emergencies every second counts. The locking/unlocking solenoid malfunctioning is clearly a high risk in emergency scenarios. Some people who cannot afford the $1600 to have all the solenoids replaced (as quoted by dealers) will forgo getting them fixed, putting their family members at risk with the above mishap examples. This shouldn't be, Nissan should recall them. It's only a matter of time till someone gets robbed, hurt or killed from a malfunctioning door lock, disabling the security which the driver "thinks" he has when he locks the car. It's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

13 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 09/08/2012

I own a 2009 Nissan Murano s model. My driver's side door power lock jammed 3 days ago for no apparent reason whatsoever. I went to work and when I came out the keyless entry key did not unlock the driver's side door. All other doors were fine. I brought it the dealer on Monday who could not get the door unlocked and then notified me that the door panel access was in the part of the car inaccessible because they could not get the door opened at all. I was asked to bring the car back to Nissan. I will update this complaint at that time. Right now this is a serious safety issue, not to mention the inconvenience to me as a customer climbing over the center console.

20 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 02/15/2012

I have a Nissan Murano 2004 with approx 66,000 miles. . . All four actuators failed at the same time. When I looked into this issue on line, I see that many other Murano owners have the same issue. When the actuators fail you are no longer able to look the doors, there causing a security issue, especially if you have children. I find it strange that so many people are having the same problem. My husband and parents have 2004 model cars, and have no issues with their looks. Please hold Nissan responsible for this issue.

22 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 11/30/2011

All of the door locks do not work. I have had my Murano in the shop 3 times and they cannot figure out the problem. I have now spent close to $1000 and the problem is still not fixed! they first replaced a switch in the driver's side door. That did not fix the problem. They then replaced the bcm, the locks worked for about a week and now they are not functioning again. This is a safety hazard because I am a single woman and should be able to lock and unlock my doors as needed. How many people have to file a complaint for the same issue before Nissan does something about it??? it is absolutely ridiculous that I should have to spend almost $1000 and still not have functioning door locks!!! I know for a fact the problem is not the solenoids in the doors that control the locks because my repair shop tested each one in each door and they are properly functioning, which is what led us to check the bcm. When it was determined the bcm was bad, I had that replaced but obviously that is not the only problem. Please do something about this issue!!!.

23 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 10/11/2011

Has faulty electronic locks. Viewed as a safety issue as it prevents the ability to get in and/or out in a quick and efficient manner should there be an emergency. The door will not unlock/lock using the electronic devices or buttons and in order to unlock the door you have to open another door and reach over and manually unlock. I have significant concerns related to my and my family's safety in the vehicle. After research it appears that this problem is common and Nissan is not taking any responsibility to replace or repair causing significant (up to $1600) financial cost to the owner.

24 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 09/11/2011

Power door locks do not work on two of the doors -- driver's door and right rear passenger door. One door lock stopped working last week; the other door lock stopped working yesterday. Rear door cannot be locked to keep our children in -- a safety issue -- and it has to be locked manually. In the event of an accident, I will be unable to unlock the door and allow the children to escape; again, a safety issue.

Access has to be made from the passenger side or from the rear door. It costs $431 to repair.

28 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

All door locks do not function with the fob or the internal door lock button. Must manually lock/unlock all doors. Condition worsens in warm weather. This is a serios safety hazard - I have two small children and in an emergency I would not be able to get them into or out of the vehicle quickly. Nissan won't even escalate my concern until I pay to have one of their dealerships look at it, but I know from reading other posts that once I do they will still refuse to fix it.

31 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

My 2005 Nissan Murano locks to all four doors, trunk and gas tank malfunction frequently. I have been stranded with no gas because I have been unable to unlock the gas tank for a period of time. There is no "key" opening for the gas tank, hatch in the back or 3 passenger doors-only the driver's side door. I have already had the actuators replaced once on both sides of the car a couple of years ago and now they are broken again. This is a saftey concern because we can not be sure the doors are locked, can not obtain gas, can not access the trunk area, or unlock passenger doors on frequent basis. Sometimes, they work and sometimes they don't. The cost to replace the actuators is around $1600. That is a significant amount of money to burden the owner of the vehicle when clearly there is a defect in the car. There are so many Murano owners with the same problem. Nissan needs to recall and replace the actuators for the lifetime of the car. This is a significant saftey issue!.

32 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 05/18/2011

Door locks not functioning properly. Will not lock/unlock from fob or interior switch on the interior of the vehicle. This is a safety concern because in the event of a crash you may not be able to unlock the doors to exit the vehicle or it may prevent emergency medical personnel to easily gain access to the vehicle. It is also a concern because it can potentially leave the vehicle vulnerable to potential theft of items in the interior of the vehicle since they don't reliably lock.

33 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 04/27/2011

I have a 2005 Nissan Murano. The door actuator has failed on numerous occassions. The front driver side fails intermittently as well as the rear door latch. The passenger side door will not open at all. Truly this is a safety issue and should be corrected by Nissan. Currently, I have seen nor heard of any recall.

34 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2003 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 04/23/2011

I have a 2003 Nissan Murano with around 60,000 miles on it. The driver's door lock actuator has stopped working and from my research, it seems to be a very common problem with Muranos. I believe that this is a safety issue and should be a recall since the problem is so wide spread but my dealer is unwilling to take it up with Nissan. Can you help?.

35 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2003 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 04/13/2011

1. ) my driver and passenger door lock actuators are not working as of yesterday 4/13/11. I have to use my key to unlock my door- the fab will not work. From the outside and my unlock/lock button does not work on the inside either. The fab does unlock the rears doors only. 2. ) failure occurs every time 3. ) have not fixed it yet because based on research, this is a Nissan issue that needs to be addressed. I signed a recent petition with over 624 other signatures of people with similar problems. Nissan needs to fix this now as it is a huge safety issue and could result in harm to vehicle owners if they cannot lock their doors instantly.
