36 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 03/30/2011

When I lock my doors they go down all by themselves. Yesterday they went down the car got soaked inside. I don't feel safe because anybody can reach their hand in and open the doors. Car is 4 years old. Shouldnt be having these major repair problems. So far stress cracked windshield, squealing brakes, now all four windows going down after I lock it. This is a major safety issue what if the doors lock and the windows decide not togo down anymore something is bad wrong with the locking mechanism. I want to know why there hasn't been a recall for this very disturbing failure . Below it doesn't give you a choice to explain what is really wrong with the car thank you for letting me explain now.

39 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 02/10/2011

2005 Nissan Murano has faulty electronic locks. Viewed as a safety issue as it prevents the ability to get in and/or out in a quick and efficient manner should there be an emergency. The door will not unlock/lock using the electronic devices or buttons and in order to unlock the door you have to open another door and reach over and manually unlock. I have significant concerns related to my and my family's safety in the vehicle. After research it appears that this problem is common and Nissan is not taking any responsibility to replace or repair causing significant (up to $1600) finacial cost to the owner.

41 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 12/25/2010

At about 65,000 miles the driver door lock actuator quit working. All 4 door lock actuators actuators quit working shortly after. This is a safety issue because my child's door could be opened now since they no longer will lock automatically. I am afraid to manually lock the doors in the case of an car accident in which we were incapable of getting out of the car to save him, then emergency personnel could easily open doors if actuators worked. The unlock buttons will not work. Also, my wife travels through dangerous neighborhoods in which she should be able to lock all doors without pulling off the road. The lock buttons will not work. Please help!.

42 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 12/18/2010

Doors can be unlocked and the car ignition can be started without a key, and there is no way to lock the ignition, and no way to stop anyone from opening the doors. This creates an extremely dangerous condition for car jacking and harm to the occupants.

43 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 11/15/2010

1. Having a secure environment is paramount in certain neighborhoods. When locking the doors it's imperative nobody can gain access at will by walking up to the car. If anyone can simply open the door to gain access, carjacking, injury, or even murder is easier. If the doors locked properly this provides a more secure environment for this type of scenario. 2. Nissan knowing there is a security problem with their locking mechanism and not recalling them for safety concern is negligent. It's an open door to a lawsuit if someone were to be murdered due to a door that didn't lock, although the driver pushed the lock button and heard the locking noise. Remember, in this case there's no obvious indication the door isn't locked unless someone walks up and opens it from the outside. The drive "thinks" the door is locked, when in reality it's an "open door" for carjacking or robbery. This failure is an intermitance of operation. Sometimes the doors lock ok, other times they don't. In addition, sometimes the doors unlock ok, other times they don't. 3. In emergencies it's important to be able to unlock doors quickly. Since 99% of the time we all use the button to lock and unlock doors, using the manual locking lever is unfamiliar. And the Murano's design is such that it's not easy to comprehend if it's not your car, for instance a rental car. I can easily understand how some people would be confused how unlock a door using the manual level in an emergency when they virtually have no experience with it. In emergencies every second counts. The locking/unlocking solenoid malfunctioning is clearly a high risk in emergency scenarios. Some people who cannot afford the $1600 to have all the solenoids replaced (as quoted by dealers) will forgo getting them fixed, putting their family members at risk with the above mishap examples. This shouldn't be, Nissan should recall them. It's only a matter of time till someone gets robbed, hurt or killed from a malfunctioning door loc.

44 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 11/11/2010

My wife and I went out to go to an appointment when the remote access key didn't work. We tried to use our key and that failed to work as well. Basically, we were locked out of our car with no way to gain access to our vehicle. Two hours later I came out and the driver side door was open. Remember, two hours ago we were locked out and now only the driver side door is unlocked without me doing anything to it. So I test the door with the manual key to see if it all works and by some miracle it does. But once again, the remote key doesn't work. The wife took it apart and re-assembled it and then it worked. This feels like it will become a huge problem and I've read reports of the same category of Nissan Murano failures and am afraid of an emergency where the door needs to be opened and it can't be in a reliable time frame.

Faulty door actuator in 2003 Nissan Murano. Doors will not lock or unlock with fob.

46 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

After 32,000 miles my 2007 Nissan Murano door locks began opening a closing while driving. This began after replacement of battery by dealer. The door locks open and close with no with no specific timing. Sometimes clicking occurs immediately other times after a half hour of driving. Went to dealer and they could not duplicate. Now passenger door and rear door locks do not unlock unless double click of the door switch on drivers door. Dealer suggested I return to replace the actuator. I am concerned this may be very expensive. This should be a vehicle recall due to the low miles year and make of vehicle. So why is it a safety issue? 2. My 2004 Nissan Murano passenger door lock fails to open with remote control. There are no key access on the passenger handle. I either end up thinking my doors are all locked or I try to unlock the passenger side door and it does not. 1. Having a secure environment is paramount in certain neighborhoods. 51 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 09/10/2010

Lock on driver side door failed and does not lock or unlock properly. Makes this unsafe at night as I work a night job and if the car did not lock properly could be safety issue, also getting into the car as the Murano is designed to be keyless, in a hurry to take the key off the key fob is time consuming and in a panic usage. Locks just stopped working after had been working fine. I feel this is a safety issue and Nissan should repair free of charge, as many other people have had same issue, I have never heard of so many of same complaints from other car makers.

52 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

The power door lock actuator on my 2007 Nissan Murano with 50k have quit working. So why is it a safety issue? you can use this justification when filing: 1. 54 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

Three of the door actuators that control the automatic locks on my 2005 Nissan Murano are not working. One of them has been broken for a year, the other two just went. This is a safety issue, and judging from how many other people have this problem with the same car, Nissan should provide replacements for these. If I do it myself it will cost well over $1,000, and there's no telling when the other two locks will go. Right now, the two door locks that are broken have to be opened from inside manually. The back tailgate cannot open at all, as the actuator is the only way I know of being able to unlock it.

When getting out of car to fill gas and upon closing door, the doors are automatic locking, I had children in the car. This car has continue to do this and is serious safety issue. 58 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 08/01/2010

My 2004 Nissan Murano awd se front driver seat broke . I took it out and paid to have a guy weld it . Others have told me that it is a common Murano problem . Some suggested that it is already a Nissan recall issue but I can't get any info to prove it . It still flops around . Also the front wheel bearing went at 75k miles but that's another problem . The doors lock automatically if you slam the door sometimes . Imagine jumping out of the car to put mail in the box and when you come back it's locked ? dealer said he fixed it . . . He didn't . The tail gate back door latch sticks . Also the metal rim of the gasoline filler neck got rusty and pitted . Consequently the gas cap didn't seal properly and the check engine light came on . The dealer wanted 800 dollars to change the filler neck . I sanded it and fixed it for nothing .

59 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/28/2010

Driver side door lock is difficult to lock and unlock by hand. The automatic key fob is unable to be used, also. This occurs every day, and I am concerned if there is a crash the driver will be trapped. I am fearful also of driving with my car door unlocked. Updated 11/16/bf.

60 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2007 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/27/2010

The battery has been replaced twice in the vehicle and it has less than 35,000 miles on it. The first replacement was done when the car was only about 6 months old and I just recently had to have the battery replaced again. The second battery was supposed to be an 84,000 mile battery and was under warranty. However, when I was driving it, the car died on me and would not start again. The battery had less than 26,000 miles on it. Nissan fought us on the replacement even though it was under warranty, but we finally got another one put in. We are on our 3rd battery in less than 3 years. This same vehicle had an engine mount crack at 32,000 miles and has also had the radiator replaced at 34,000 miles. It has been in the shop 4 times now in the last 2 1/2 months. When the radiator went out, the gauges did not even say that the car was running hot. I discovered the issue when my car started smoking everywhere and coolant was all over my vehicle. Nissan insists that it is not an electrical issue of any kind and that the gauge can still read cool if the radiator goes out and the car is smoking. All in all, I now have the 3rd new battery, a new radiator, and a new engine mount. The drive belts have also cracked, but Nissan refused to do anything about that.

61 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/26/2010

On Monday, July 26, 2010 I started my 2009 Nissan Murano and the passenger side window went down and will not come back up. Also I noticed the door lock button was actually unlocking my car. I took it to the dealer and they said the door lock actuator needed to be replaced. After seeing this seems to be a common problem experienced by many other owners I thought I should report this.

62 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/25/2010

'05 Nissan Murano-the door locks on my '05 Nissan Murano do not always lock/unlock electronically. Sometimes they will lock and sometimes they will not. I have not been able to consistently reproduce the problem but it seems that the door lock actuator is getting weak or something is preventing the proper current from getting to the actuator. It could be a combination of the two problems, sending weak current over time has caused the door actuators to become weak, and as a result magnified the current problem. Regardless of what has caused the problem, the fact is, there are multiple people having the issue, and it is not as a result of normal wear and tear. This is a manufacturing or design flaw and therefore should be addressed by Nissan. This is one of the most basic functions of the car and it does not perform reliably. I cannot even begin to express the safety issue of thinking that a door is locked when it is not. And if there is a bigger electrical problem, then it most definitely needs to be addressed.

63 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/21/2010

Four out of five of the door locks on my 2005 Nissan Murano do not work and the drivers side sun visor falls down everytime the car moves. Both are serious safety issues.

64 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/16/2010

Driver's door and rear passenger door locks will not lock when actuated from the door power lock or the remote power lock. This is a danger because it means door locks can not be relied to power lock or unlock in the event of an emergency.

65 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2003 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/10/2010

My 2005 Nissan Murano lock actuator on the driver side went out.

67 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2009 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/10/2010

Several weeks ago (July 2010) door actuator on 2009 Nissan Murano started having problems. Door lock is intermittent. This is a serious safety problem.

68 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/10/2010

The locks on my 2005 Nissan Murano have started to not work unless manually operated. First, the rear passenger side door would not open or close with either the button or key fob, only manually, and then it was stiff. This went on for several months and then the front passenger door also began to fail, only operating manually. Shortly thereafter the rear hatch/trunk door also intermittently fails to open, though with the rear door, there is no manual open. The Nissan dealership inspected it and insists that the door actuators need to be replaced on all affected doors, which is very expensive. And upon doing online research, this is a common problem on Murano's and other Nissan vehicles. The lock problem presents a potential safety hazard of not being able to open doors in a timely manner in case of fire, and also in retrieving infants and children from the car, which I do on a daily basis. In addition, if more door locks were to freeze up, there is only one manual key entry into the car.

69 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2005 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/06/2010

I own a 2005 Nissan Murano se awd and have experienced progressive problems with my door lock actuators resulting in an unsafe vehicle presumed to be secure. At approximately 50k miles, the right front passenger door lock became intermittently inoperative when using either the interior door lock switch or the intelligent key fob button. Then, at approximately 54k miles, the right rear passenger door lock also became intermittently inoperative in the same manner. Now, at 59k miles, all doors except the driver's door do not operate with either the interior door lock switch or the intelligent key fob button. Recently, the vehicle was taken to a Nissan dealership service department, where they diagnosed it as a problem with the door lock actuator. Further, I was told that the front right door lock actuator is a control point for all other door locks. This is of great concern as I was assuming, as I'm sure others have, that I was driving in a secure vehicle when in fact, I was unsecured from four other entry points to my vehicle. This poses a threat to my and any of my passengers' presumed personal safety from would-be assailants gaining access to the vehicle through locks thought to be secure. This could also have serious - even fatal - ramifications in the event of an accident if the doors of the vehicle are thought to be locked (having no reason to believe otherwise), but were not. This creates the serious potential of occupants to be thrown from a vehicle door that could open during an accident due to faulty door lock actuators. Even in my short search online, I have found numerous calls for action by other drivers, particularly of the 2004-2005 model years of my same vehicle. This is not an isolated occurrence. Immediate corrective remedial action must be taken by Nissan USA to resolve this life-threatening defect.

70 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2004 Nissan Murano

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

Door locks and gas lock do not work or work intermittently. There wan an occasion where I had to tow the car because I had no gasoline and was not able to open the gas door. The mechanic fix it temporarily. The second time it happened I bent the gas door and had to replace the door. I fix that problem by deactivating the gas door lock.
