Takara recall fuel guage doesn't work. It is stuck on half tank.
The car will stutter at random even if filled with a full tank. Smell of burning and check engine light comes on. Car starts to violently shake. This is horrible as I drive with my toddler. I have been now reading this is common and I'm lucky I have not had an accent by my car stalling.

Apparently Nissan is known for problems with their fuel level sensors, but not specifically for Muranos' well maybe it should be, even after I bought the new parts and had them installed with a mechanic, they still do not work or function properly. When I fill up the tank the level sensor doesn't go past a quarter of a tank now, it drops rapidly and I have even now ran out of gas when it says it has gas in there or miles till empty. This is a known problem, maybe it should be fixed.
Fuel gauge says empty when 100 miles are on the gas tank. My local Nissan dealer, elhart, told me they would have to charge me 5 hours of labor to remove the gas tank to "diagnose" the problem, even though the fuel guage sensors are accessible under the rear seat for replacement. Also, this is a very common problem with all Nissans - quests do have a recall on it, but no other Nissan, even though they all use the same faulty gas guage. It causes panic to the driver to see the "empty" light on, & they call for help, swerve off the road, when they are really not empty at all. All Nissans should have a recall on these faulty gas gauges so that Nissan discontinues using them.
Fuel sensor says car is on empty but will never fill up past 1/2 tank. Alternator is out now & bad vibration when driving between 60-70mph so could possibly be u joint considering everything else has been done that would correct a vibration.

The fuel lever guage is inconsistent and way off. I put a half tank in and it reads empty.
The car was parked and it did not start at all. . Happened twice in one month. Had to be towed, took it to the shop and they didnot find anything wrong because the car was working ok. And this also can happened when I was driving my car. The car stop working no lights no brakes nothing was working. Took it to the shop and the same thing. The car was working again. Also I received a letter from Nissan saying that there is a problem with a part that doesnot let you fill up your gas tank and they said that they have extended the warranty for this part but they cannot replaced it until you have this problem.

Two times in the past month I have experienced the same problem while driving on interstate roads. My gas gauge and trip monitor indicated I had about 60 miles until empty then after driving a few miles it said about 30 miles to empty and shortly after that car started sputtering and losing power and I had to make emergency moves to keep from getting hit. Both times I was able to pull unto the shoulder and drive a short distance to a gas station to fill the tank which took only slightly over 15 gallons and the tank holds 19 gallons. I have found the identical complaint on several web sites and there does not seem to be any help from Nissan or even an admittance that the problem exits. I just returned from my dealer in naples, FL. And all they could tell me was that no error codes were showing and I could not expect the the gauge to be accurate at all times since it is constantly recalculating and changing distance to empty. That really has nothing to do with the problem since the car was apparently not out of gas and in the past I have put over 18 gallons in the tank so I am certain it was not out of gas. I believe there must be a problem with the pickup tube, sensors or a combination of both. Having your vehicle suddenly stall in front of a semi truck is no laughing matter and we were lucky to have escaped without a major accident. On one of the forums the owner was told by the dealer that it was not a problem if they would not let their tank get below 1/4 full. Not much help!.

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that the vehicle had an abnormal fuel odor. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank leaked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 06v003000 (fuel system, gasoline); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.
The car is intermittently stalling when I get to about 1/4 tank of gas. Sometimes it does not change gears, other times it stalls out and turns off completely. This is very dangerous as it has done so when I pulled out in traffic and three times on the highway. Twice the car was going approximately 55 miles per hour and when I tried to speed up the vehicle stalled out and would not go over this speed. I had to pull off of the interstate. Again, it happened going about 5mph while attempting to turn into traffic, the vehicle then turned off.
In November 2015, the car fuel light came on during a trip. Before I could get to a gas station, the car suddenly became sluggish and would not go over 20 miles per hour. The engine did not turn off indicating it still had gas. I was about a mile and a half from an exit and was able to drive on the shoulder and get to a station and refill the car. I topped it off at 16 gallons (car holds 19). The car ran fine after it was full. This was a dangerous situation given that traffic was moving at 70 miles per hour when the car dropped to 20 miles per hour. I called Nissan USA and my dealer and was told they couldn¿t do anything unless an engine light came on or they could replicate the problem. In March 2016, the car fuel light again came on while on a residential road. While the car registered 35 miles left until empty, the car again became sluggish and would not exceed 20 mph. I drove to a gas station and topped it off at 15. 5 gallons. This time, like the last, the car worked normally when it was full. In April 2016, the dealer agreed to replace the two fuel level sensors. Since then I have not had the issue but also have filled up before or immediately after the fuel light comes on. Each time I have only been able to get slightly over 15 gallons in the tank. I have noticed that others have reported similar problems with this model on automotive websites. This issue appears to be a design flaw that could lead to serious injury for those who suddenly lose power on a freeway. Car owners should be warned to fill up immediately if the fuel like comes on.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that during routine maintenance with an independent mechanic, it was discovered that the the fuel tank was leaking due to a failed seal. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number 06v054000 (fuel system, gasoline). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 211,000. Djr.
Had noticed that the gas gauge read empty and the fuel light came on. I had just put gas in the vechicle 2 days before. I looked for a leak and there was nothing noticable. I filled the tank, returned to the car to check the gauge and noticed that it read 3/4. I started driving and as I was driving it fluctuated betweem full and 3/4. I talked to my wife about the issue and she had noticed that the gas gauge had been reading inaccurately the past couple of days.
Fuel tank protector 2004 Murano: there was a recall on my vehicle and a plastic fuel tank protector was added. This repair reduces the ground clearance and the has broken twice on my 2004 Murano. Any road debris is likely to hit this low point on the vehicle. The manufacturer should inspect these regularly or come up with a better fix. One can guess that there are vehicles that had the protector added and that protector has subsequently been broken and fallen off. I did call 1-800-nissan1 to request reimbursement for the failed protector and the company kindly agreed to make the reimbursement. Further, santa barbara Nissan agreed to install the protector free of charge.
I was traveling on the highway and hit a sharp object. That sharp object punctured my gas tank and the tank began to leak. I called Nissan USA regarding recall number 35779. Nissan said that the tank had been replaced. However, sears told me that the Murano was still using a Nissan tank and should be covered by the recall. I have the part number on the work order from sears. Nissan denied my request. Nissan claim number is 1468c472. Approximately June 10, 2014. I would like your help in seeking reimbursement from Nissan since I had to pay for the replacement tank and labor. My local Nissan dealer in bowie MD also denied my request.
The fuel gauge/sensor is not reading properly. It will show the tank as empty even when it is not. I have tried to contact Nissan directly, however they will not address the problem even though there are three other models of car that have been recalled from the same year due to the same problem. They have also issued a service bulletin regarding the same issue but refused to do anything to remedy it on my vehicle. This concerns me as in reading other complaints regarding the same issue except that the vehicle can stall while in motion creating a very unsafe driving experience.
In March 2013, a Nissan dealership replaced the fuel sensors and a related amplifier because the "service engine soon" went on and the diagnostic codes specified a fuel sensor problem (I paid between $1000-1500). About a year later, the fuel sensor light went on again, the fuel gauge intermittently shows empty even when the tank is more than one-half full, and the "miles to empty" gauge periodically goes to zero and then rebounds to the substantial number of miles left. The Nissan dealer states that the diagnostic code shows a problem in a "past cycle" and they do not have an onboard diagnostic tool. I'm unsure what's going to happen next -- but it sounds to me like there should have been a recall (other Nissan models had recalls because of fuel sensor problems).
Due to a recall a plastic shield was installed a few years ago by dealer to protect the fuel tank from road debris. Something must have hit the shield causing four of the 6 plastic fasteners to break off or fail due to age. The shield was dangling on passenger side. I purchased and installed replacement fasteners. Most people will not know to inspect for this leaving the tank exposed. I think Nissan's solution is inadequate. The shield should be more robust. Perhaps metal with metal fasteners? I also think this should be a recall of the recall.
Since I bought this car from Nissan dealership its been one thing after the other first the catalytic converter was already broke when the sold it to us they turned the engine lite off prior to going for test drive the day we bought n rode home the lite came right back on & has been on since still is dealer said 1500$$ an they would fix it nice. . . The front seat broke, gas tank lid wouldn't open had to fix it, an now steering has went 640$$ to fix it ??.

Strange rust around ring of gas tank. The rust is in the area where you put gas into. Nissan does not cover this under the 5 year rust warranty!.
