Nissan Murano owners have reported 48 problems related to seat belt (under the seat belt category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Murano based on all problems reported for the Murano.
3 year old child was appropriately buckled into car seat in the back seat. She managed to reach the seat belt and put it around her neck. Her older brother noticed this and started yelling at mother who was driving. Mother pulled over and tried to remove the seat belt but it had locked. Mother flagged down passerbys. Fortunately, this occurred on a us military base overseas where first aid kits are required in all vehicles including trauma shears. The trauma shears were used to cut the seat belt away from her neck. The child did sustain bruising and injuries to both the front and back of her neck, but no long term problems. This is a physician who is filing the report as I evaluated the child for her injuries.

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that the rear driver's side seat belt failed to retract. The seat belt also became abnormally tight around her child. As a result, the seat belt had to be cut in order to release the child and avoid suffocation. The contact mentioned that the child had bruises on his stomach but was not taken to the hospital. The vehicle was not taken to dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 70,000.

While adjusting the drivers side power seat, something in the power seat mechanism appears to have broke and the seat in now uneven, and feels like it is coming off the rails especially when going into a curve, where you must hang onto the steering wheel for balance which causes undue anxiety for fear of losing control. The seat feels like it is off the rails, and when I use the power seat adjuster, it only lifts one side of the seat. This happened over 2 years ago at about 45,0000 miles. I now have 70,000 miles. I have learned if you keep the seat adjusted so that its closest to the floor, then there is less of a feeling that the seat is coming off, than if the seat is adjusted to a higher position. I have chosen not to get this repaired solely due to the $1,100 expense which it appears to cost to repair this safety issue. It's an annoying issue, it reminds me of the Ford I had as a teenager that I had to use rope to keep the driver door shut.
My four year son was sitting in the back seat when the seat belt lock off ,my son was crying ,my husband could get the seat belt to unlock ,it was very scaring he had to cut it off ,my son stomach was red and swollen .
The seatbelt release mechanism has become intermittent (sticky) over the past several weeks. This appears to be due to the collapse of the driver's seat frame, which occurred on this vehicle several months ago. The seat belt appears to be anchored to the seat frame on the right side, and to the vehicle body on the left side. The wobbling motion of the driver's seat due to the collapsed frame appears to affect the seat belt tension, which may be affecting the operation of the release mechanism. I am awaiting the safety recall on both of these issues.
Upon starting the vehicle it was noticed the airbag light was flashing on the console. On 12/8/2010 contacted Nissan dealership, wright automotive - wexford, PA, and service agent advised the earliest they could see the vehicle was12/13/2010 and that the airbag would not deploy while the airbag light was flashing. Upon taking vehicle to dealership service agent advised he has not seen this issue in the 2 years he's been at the dealership and advised there is no recall or known TSB. Service order indicated a code of b1054 which means 'drivers side air bag open'. Thus, they recommended 'replace spiral cable' for a total cost of $371. 88. I paid $69. 95 diagnostic fee, $197 spiral cable, and $18. 69 tax and pending payment of $104. 93 labor cost to replace part. Upon researching this issue on the web the following was uncovered: several Murano owners, crossing model years, have experienced the same issue and two suggested solutions. The first solution states to perform a reset by turning the vehicle from 'off' to 'on' three times while counting to 5 during the 'off' time. This solution worked for several owners. The second solution identified by one owner said replacement of the 'seat belt pre tensioner', which was supposedly covered under a recall for a 2005 Murano, solved the identified issue. We choose to perform a self 'reset' on 12/13/2010 which was subsequent to dealership analysis payment of $266. 95 (diagnostic fee and special part order). Upon discussing the 'reset' with Nissan service agent, he suggested either return special order part and pay restocking fee or keep the part since he believes the light will begin flashing again. Since performing the 'reset' the flashing airbag light has not returned. Nissan needs to determine if this is a safety concern and issue a recall or if this is not a safety issue then Nissan should document a TSB solution.
Drivers side seatbelt latch is malfunctioning. Sometimes the latch won't release the seatbelt and sometimes you can't relatch the belt. It is happening almost every time I get in the vehicle.

2006 Nissan Murano driver side seat back cross brace broke, car only has 46,800 miles.
I ran off the left side of a mountain road hitting a large tree with the driver's door, then continued down the hill another ~20 feet slamming into a boulder. When I hit the tree, the driver's door window broke as well as the driver's side rear door. The door was jammed shut. The Nissan was equipped with front side impact airbags and both front and rear head protection airbags. None were deployed. When I hit the boulder, the front passenger airbag deployed, but the driver's front airbag failed to deploy. The pre-tensioner on the driver's seatbelt did not latch resulting in me hitting my upper chest and lower jaw on the steering wheel since the airbag did not deploy. The fuel cut-off device also failed to activate and shut off the engine. After almost a minute, I turned off the engine with the key. I had been knocked unconscious for several seconds. The 2004 Nissan Murano sustained over $25,000 in damage which resulted in it being totaled by my insurance company. The airbag light would illuminate briefly when starting the car prior to the accident. So there was no indication of an airbag malfunction. There was substantial damage to the driver's side of the vehicle as well as the front and undercarriage. My injuries were limited to bruises to my chest and lower jaw. The accident also greatly aggravated a prior injury to my upper back. When I went to go remove my personal belongings from the vehicle, I found that the jack, mounted in the rear floor had come completely out.
: the contact stated while driving 40 to 45 mph on a gravel road down a steep decline, brakes were applied and control of the vehicle was lost causing the vehicle to roll several times. The vehicle landed on the passenger side and the air bags did not deploy. Seat belts were in use however a thoracic disc fracture and a sever cut above the eye were sustained by the occupants. A police report was filed at the scene. The vehicle was towed to an the dealer where it was deemed totaled. Updated 10/30/2006 - the vehicle was totaled.
I own a 2005 Nissan Murano sl (VIN - jn8az08t25w318817 ) and due to recall number 06v048000, I took in my vehicle to have the gas tank shield and safety belt webbing installed to st charles Nissan inc, st peters, mo (Nissan dealer no. Scn). Upon my vehicle's return, I find there is no 2nd row lh seat belt clip for me to insert either the 2nd row lh seat belt or my child seat securing harness into. There were 3 clips prior to my taking the vehicle into the dealership - one for 2nd row rh, one in the middle and one for 2nd row lh. Now there are only 2 and I can see visible signs of the lh seat belt clip having being cut off from the seat. This prevents me from attaching my child seat for lh rear passenger to use a seat belt. I am not sure if this is the dealerships fault or Nissan's direction to the dealership to remove the seat belt clip, but as of right now there is no way I can use a child seat as there is no place to secure the harness on the left hand side.
