Nissan Murano owners have reported 75 problems related to wheel (under the wheel category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Murano based on all problems reported for the Murano.
While driving, the rear arm connected to the rear driver-side wheel broke off. According to my Nissan dealership diagnosis, this was due to excessive rust/rot of the whole subframe. The 2013 Nissan Murano rear arm cannot re attach the wheel to the sub frame due to so much rust/rot on the sub frame. The whole subframe would need replacement. When doing an estimate on fixing, Nissan called and stopped the estimate when replacement of the subframe, fixing of the arm, and additional rust/replacement exceeded the value of the car. My son and I were driving on the road when the arm broke off the rear wheel, the wheel went sideways and we skidded to a stop, so our safety was at risk. There were no warning lights or signs of this happening. While driving on the road, my car felt unstable then seconds later the arm broke off. The car was at Nissan 4 months prior to have work done, I had them do a multipoint inspection when there was a problem/engine light with the vehicle and it would not go more than 15mph. Nissan fixed loose rf hub, plus they replaced a right and left front sway bar. This is right on the sub frame, there was no warning given to me that the sub frame was rusted or could give out.

My wife was driving the vehicle on [xxx] between leesburg and purcellville virginia when a catastrophic tire failure occurred. The right front tire tread totally separated from the sidewall while driving at approximately 60 miles per hour. She told me that she saw the tire pressure warning light illuminate just before the tire failure. She could feel the immediate effect resulting in strong vibration and impact on maintaining control. Fortunately, she was in the right lane and had the presence of mind to pull off the road on to the shoulder. There was heavy traffic at that time and this incident could have resulted in loss of control of the vehicle and a collision. I had recently checked the tire pressures and they were all set correctly. She called me on her cellphone and I drove my car to meet her. I replaced the damaged tire/wheel with a temporary spare. I am a retired technical compliance manager for Nissan where I was responsible for dealing with any safety issues on Nissan vehicles and ensuring compliance with NHTSA regulations. I inspected the failed tire very carefully and saw no evidence of a puncture. This appears to me to be a catastrophic failure due to a manufacturing defect. The failed tire is a bridgestone 255/50r21 alenza sport a/s which is the factory-equipped tire. I lease this vehicle directly from Nissan north America as a retiree. I returned the vehicle to priority Nissan in chantilly virginia to have the tire replaced. I also advised the service manager to report this incident to Nissan and save the tire for their inspection. Subject: vehicle safety complaint – 2020 Nissan Murano, VIN [xxx] dear NHTSA, I am submitting a formal vehicle safety complaint regarding my 2020 Nissan Murano (VIN: [xxx] ) due to unresolved safety defects that match existing recalls. I have been notified of two recall campaigns affecting my vehicle model: 1. Nhtsa campaign 21v402000 (steering knuckle/rear axle housing defect). 2. Nhtsa campaign 21v170000 (transverse link/ball joint defect). Despite these active recalls being published in NHTSA’s database, Nissan consumer affairs has denied that my VIN is included, even though my vehicle is exhibiting the exact safety defects described: [insert brief description of your issues, e. G. , steering instability, noises, or loss of control symptoms]. I have already provided Nissan with: - NHTSA campaign numbers - recall notifications received through the kelley blue book app - documentation of my safety concerns Nissan has failed to provide a resolution. I request that NHTSA investigate whether additional vins should be included in these recalls and ensure Nissan fulfills its obligations to correct these safety defects. I am prepared to supply copies of all recall notifications, correspondence with Nissan and, documentation of my vehicles defects upon request. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Summary of incident: on August 16, 2025, while my daughter was operating the vehicle at approximately 35 mph, the front driver-side wheel detached entirely from the vehicle, resulting in a catastrophic loss of control and the vehicle being declared a total loss. Technical details & safety hazard: the vehicle had undergone a comprehensive wheel and brake service at a licensed dealership, ron tonkin Hyundai, in gresham, oregon, 39 days (approx. 600 miles) prior. Post-accident inspection by an independent tow operator and mechanical review revealed: *a sheared wheel stud on the failed hub, which dealership service management later admitted was "likely over-torqued" during service, leading to latent metal fatigue. * a systemic failure of wheel mounting: lug nuts on the other three remaining wheels were found to be loose or missing. Safety risk: this incident represents a critical safety failure. The detachment of a wheel at speed poses a life-threatening risk to the occupants and other motorists. The systemic nature of the loose hardware suggests either a failure in service procedures, a defect in the lug/stud hardware compatibility, or improper torque specifications being applied to this model. I am reporting this to ensure a record of this structural failure is maintained should it be part of a larger pattern of hardware fatigue or service negligence.

On [xxx] I was driving back down [xxx] , stopped at red light and when light changed to green, I proceeded to take off and as I got under the interstate overpass my vehicle abruptly started slowing down as if it was going to shut completely down and the panel in the dash turned red with a symbol of a car. There was a vehicle coming directly behind me and I am thankful they were not following me closely because it may have caused them to hit me from behind. A few seconds later the vehicle picked up speed and the red warning light disappeared quickly. 11/11/24 I made a call to Nissan consumer affairs to create a case (case#[xxx]) and representative opened and closed the case without escalating to a specialist for review. On 11/13/24 I took the vehicle into a Nissan dealership to perform a diagnostic on the vehicle and no code was found. I was told to bring the vehicle back in for a full day to troubleshoot. With all of the safety features this vehicle has, I thought issues like this would be recorded. I asked the service advisor if anyone else has reported this issue and he stated not on the 23 Murano but have received reports of other Nissan vehicles just shutting down. This could have been a very bad situation and Nissan consumer affairs did not seem to care when this issue was brought to their attention. Also have reported issue with brake pedal squeaking and wheel slipping when making short turn on driver's side. Issues are never found by the dealership in most cases, until the warranty runs out which is very short (3yrs 36,000). I attempted to upload document to support my trip to dealership, but received message that file is too large. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Regarding other, there is apparently an issue regarding the sunroofs in Nissan vehicles and severe leaking inside the car that causes issues regarding the flooring and possible electrical components. The second issue regarding the wheels is Nissan uses a term called "swollen lug nuts". They wanted to charge almost 1k to change the lugs and finally rotate my tires.

Tire pressure monitoring system is not working although the air pressure is kept as requested. The light is always on which makes identification of loss of air pressure difficult to dictate, and can cause loss of vehicle control and serious damage in highways.
Driving to work in the rain the vehicle began to sway when breaks were applied. The back of the vehicle went right and the car went left. I moved to the right lane and the vehicle fishtailed! I was totally afraid that I could drive into a ditch or be killed on the highway. I drove very slowly to the repair shop, after inspection, I needed struts but then the mechanic looked further and saw that the rear k-subframe was completely corroded and unable to be welded. The one piece was completely apart from the other. A danger to drive. Once I began to look for a replacement part, I began to see how many other Murano owners have had the same issues with the subframe rusting out. This is absolutely crazy that this part is not recalled as the part is defective in the construction of it. Nissan should be ashamed. My life and my daughter's was at risk. There are no warning lights to advise of this problem prior to its failure.

2011 Nissan Murano, while pulling into a parking area the left rear (drivers side) wheel collapsed. Fortunately this happened at a very low speed, (under 10 mph). Upon inspection it was discovered that the lower control strut had rotted out and separated from the frame causing the wheel to collapse. If this had occurred on a main road at speed it could have caused a very serious accident due to loss of control. In this case it did not happen, as stated it was at low speed and in a parking lot. The deterioration of this strut was never called out by dealer inspite of numerous multi-point safety inspections during normal periodic vehicle servicing. There was no warning of impending failure, it just occurred! neither Nissan or the dealer claim any responsibility for the failure of this part(s) both sides were replaced as both sides had rotted out.

The tire light stay on even after I put air in it. I don’t think my tire air pressure is being monitored correctly; this is not due to an accident. This light come on all the time… before and after I put air in my tires.

I have a 2006 Nissan Murano and the rear subframe is having premature heavy rust causing the rear wheels to camber inwards. I noticed that 90% or the Murano around this year are concerned and it creates a extremely dangerous road safety issue Nissan should recall these car equipped with this subframe and save lives !.

On 3/15/2023 while in traffic (0730) the traction light began to fash & the vehicle began to fishtail. Fortunately I was abe to exit the expressway without an additional incident. Had the vehicle towed to fred martin Nissan in akron, OH this is the dealer that has maintained my vehicle since 2010 & the only service department that has repaired my vehicle. I was advised the rear subframe was broken! 3/3/2023 I had the vehicle aligned at fred martin at which time I advised the vehicle pulled to the left while breaking & a noise intermittently was coming from the back of the vehicle. This incident could have cost me or another their life or serious injury! this is a huge safety risk & Nissan needs to address the issue immediately!.

Rear subframe rusted tire bent in word.
About a year ago my husband and I noticed there was alot of rust in the rear end on the sway bar and around it not to long after the sway bar looked as if it was going to come apart on the left side my husband got it to stay put for a little while but as time went on the truck just became more unsafe anytime we tried to drive it it was all over the road it's kept pulling to the left very badly we noticed that the back tires were not straight and bowing out my husband changed the front tire on the left for unrelated reasons and then the next day we was driving and the awd light started flashing we were heading home and went to take off from a red light when I hit the gas the whole rear end exploded into pieces and now we definitely can't use it the only way to is to replace the rear end. Since we bought this SUV it's been nothing but problems and money and now we have no transportation are truck was how we make money were self employed so now we can't even make money to survive or even repair the SUV. The truck has been very unsafe since day 1 we bought it and all because of the back end of it. Someone needs to recall this vehicle ASAP before someone gets hurt and someone needs to help me fixy vehicle or get into another one cause this is not my fault and now I'm suffering not being able to make money or survive without a vehicle my mom is disabled and has a tumor I have to be able to take her to appointments and store etc. This is not fair to us cause of a problem you guys should have taken care of a long time ago. I will keep pushing this and pursuing it I will go as high as I have to for some to acknowledge and help me. Thank you if you need pictures I will gladly send in some.

The rear subframe is extremely rusted and breaking into pieces in multiple areas. The vehicle shakes upon acceleration and slowing down. Due to being lower income I cannot afford to fix the subframe (estimated to cost $400 for the the frame not including labor). Also the vacuum lines dry rotted and fell apart.
Tpms light always on. The tire pressure are all good but still shows the sign.
Unknown- I was driving and felt the car wobble but didn’t know what it was, when I got home noticed my back wheels ware sticking out,and I was scare,I had a mechanic look at it in my driveway because I’am afraid to drive it,and the mechanic said that it was rusted and I shouldn’t drive it cause I could cause a accident,I pick up my kids every day from school and I been asking for help picking them up,please help, this is the only car I have and my only way to bring and pick up my kids from school.
The rear subframe rusted off on drivers side. I financed this car only 10 months ago and now I can not drive it. It is very dangerous to drive, and the mechanic told me I should no longer drive it because of how dangerous it is. I have seen numerous complaints about people having the same rear subframe rusting. I can not afford to get it fixed and I’m still paying on the car. I got it for $7,500 and have put over $2,000 in it. I still have $4,500 left on it. They need a recall, this is a safety hazard for not only the driver and passengers, but for civilians walking or driving by the car, which at any moment the tire can fly off. Please recall the vehicles before someone puts in a lawsuit.
Rear subframe rusted/rot. Unsafe to drive. Both rear wheel alignment are thrown off and wheels are bent inwards. Further driving can cause rear subframe to collapse and can cause serious damage to the vehicle and driver/passenger. A recall needs to be made immediately to resolve this issue.
The tire sensor light has been on since I purchased the car. I see there are issues with other vehicles with the same problem. I assumed it was a bad tire and had them replaced and balanced and the light and the tire maintenance light still comes on. What do I do?.
In 2018, I replaced the original tires with cooper discover srx. The car had about 30000 miles at that time. Since then, each tire has developed low pressure, alerted thru tpms, due to bead leaks on 3-4 occasions. The tire dealer blames the aluminum alloy wheels as the fault. I've had numerous cars (including Murano's and other Nissans) with aluminum alloys, and never had this problem. Historically, cooper tires for light trucks recalled in 1988 for bead issues.

Tire pressure light has been on since I got the car. Tire pressure is what it's supposed to be. I took it to Nissan they said is a sensor. I seen previous recall for this exact thing. When I put my VIN # in it doesn't have it.
Took in my vehicle this morning to get 4 recalls fixed, and dealership stated they could only fix one of the 4 issues. Spoke to a representative and she stated the issues for the model of the SUV were not included in the VIN number, therefore the dealership couldn't assist with all 4 issues. The lights on the dashboard of the SUV are on and all pertain to the 4 issues not included in the VIN. How can I get these included in the VIN number so the dealership can fix the issues? the issues are as follow: NHTSA campaign number: 18v916000 NHTSA campaign number: 09v393000 NHTSA campaign number: 08v521000 NHTSA campaign number: 08v066000.
Transmission went only had the SUV for 4 months.
I took my car in for service, including tire rotation. When I got home, I noticed that 2 lug nuts looked like they were missing. I have had many issues with dealership before and going back at the time to get fixed was inconvenient, I did not know the possible consequences of issues. I took car back in today for service and the service advisor told me I had 2 broken wheel studs, this could have caused my tire to fall off. In the repair paperwork, they only wrote they replaced lug nuts. The issue is whether missing lug nuts or broken wheel studs, they should have never let me drive off that lot with a tire issue that could have caused a major accident and caused my life.
There was a stabilizer that was not connected on the right front side. Found out when I was in the mechanics. As for the brakes they have worn down quickly and had problems. Including a driver side rear line. The tire pressure warning light remains on even when tires are balanced.
The progressive rattling/ shaking from the steering wheel has led to some close calls driving on multi lane roads the curve to the left at all. I've never had a single service light turn on even though steering and wheel issues were apparent. Every bump and cranny on the road is felt causing disturbance in ability to steer especially during in town driving.
Bought the car 5 months ago. Was driving awesome. Brand new tires! very well maintained with lots of paperwork stating work done on vehicle!. . :well was driving it the other day with my 2 year old daughter and it started to over heat I immediately pulled over after going 60 mph on the highway for over an hour. I'm now stuck on the highway with my toddler in the 80 degree weather when I just thought it was my radiator. The state police notice my rear 2 tires slanted , top leaning in bottom leaning out. After the car gets put on the flat bed tow I spot my rear crossmember k frame split in 2 spots! radiator was my sign telling me my awd is acting up something happened. If I would have hit one small bump on that highway I wouldn't be here to file this complaint. This is a known issue to Nissan! this needs to be fixed!!! and made sure all vehicles are safe for anyone to be in. My vehicle is 12 years old no way should that frame even be able to snap not in one but two spots on this vehicle. This is a huge safety issue that needs to be resolved. I my car overheating was a blessing because that could have been deadly. This will be brought to bigger attention because all Nissan owners need to be aware and this needs to be fixed !!!!!!.
When driving down the road noticed that the vehicle began to get a little shaky. When stopped and looks, notice that the back wheels we're not straight. Took to a mechanic and was informed that the lower frame was ruste and falling to pieces. . Rust was not noticed on any other part of the vehicle. Car was deemed unsafe by the mechanic.
I noticed the car handled very poorly in snow/ice/wet conditions over the winter. The car was in the shop for an oil change and the mechanic noticed both rear tires were worn down to nothing on the inside of the tire. Upon further inspection, he found that the rear subframe had rusted through and broken into two. The vehicle was declared unsafe to drive. I bought the car used this past summer, but I have the service records and I know it was properly maintained. The estimated cost of repairs is more than I can afford ($5,000). I contacted Nissan to see if they would provide any assistance with repairs and I spoke with 3 different people (first consumer affairs, then a supervisor, and finally a manager), who all told me that they are "not in a position to assist because the vehicle is out of warranty". The last person (manager, consumer affairs) wouldn't even let me speak before he told me they wouldn't offer any assistance. When I asked if there was someone else I could speak with, I was told no - there isn't anyone else who would talk to me and they will not be able to assist me. This is an extremely dangerous situation and I am fortunate that both of the tires did not blow out while I was driving on the expressway. I am shocked that there has not been a recall issued as I see others have complained about the same issue.
