1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2025

I am reporting a serious safety defect with my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder (VIN: 5n1ar18w45c751676). My vehicle has an open recall for the airbag emblem (NHTSA #23e-012 / pc948), which is scheduled for inspection. However, I am writing today because I am also experiencing a repeated and dangerous malfunction that is unrelated to that recall: total loss of dashboard lights and instruments while driving no throttle response even though the engine remains running temporary function restored only by turning the vehicle off and restarting it on the roas this behavior matches known electrical failures in this model year, often related to the ipdm, ignition switch, or ecm communication. These are not cosmetic or maintenance issues—they are life-threatening. My vehicle has done this multiple times, including at highway speeds. When I contacted south colorado springs Nissan, I was told they would only inspect the airbag emblem and would not evaluate this issue unless I paid for diagnostics. I find this unacceptable given Nissan’s history with these failures and the high likelihood this is a known and unresolved defect. I am requesting: that this issue be escalated within Nissan north America that Nissan consider this under a goodwill safety repair, if not covered by existing recall or campaign that the vehicle be diagnosed immediately, and Nissan be held accountable for any known defects I am also reporting this to NHTSA as a safety concern. Please confirm receipt of this email and provide next steps. Sincerely, karen hampton.

2 Electrical System problem

Tl the contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that the digital fuel gauge displayed the incorrect fuel mileage. As a result, the vehicle completely shut off due to no fuel being inside the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was provided a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2018

I drive the car and park and then when I go to start the car again it doesn't start so I have to call a tow company to get a jump to start the car and starts right up. I have taken to Nissan many times and they said nothing is wrong with the car. I have been stranded many times in the middle of the night. I got stuck the last time and it was far so I had to leave it at a family members house. This has been an on going problem and Nissan does not honor their manufacture warranty and also the extended warranty I had. I would like Nissan to buy back my car because I can't even sell it like this and I need a car to get around I'm disabled also. I'm totally discussed with Nissan.

My Nissan cranks but don't start, don't know was wrong.

5 Electrical System problem

Without any warning and sporadically as I am driving the vehicle it will jerk and then shut off, leaving me with no control over the steering or brakes. Sometimes it will be hard to start but will eventually start and this is also a random occurance. My main concern is it shutting off while driving and leaving me with no control.

As I was driving on interstate 24 with a lot of traffic,I was running the speed limit about 75mph and suddenly it just turn off. My steering wheel lock up and I didn't had no control of the vehicle . Me and my family was terrifying about the situation we was going threw. But we was lucky nothing happen to us. Its not the first time it happen it done it a few times before. 8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2015

There is a leak in my radiator which as gone into my transmission rendering it inoperable. Mechanics recommend to replace the entire transmission due to this massive design flaw Nissan has been well aware of for years. I¿ve spoken with my Nissan dealer as well as the dealer that looked over the car when I purchased it and both said it¿s a massive problem and customers have no way of knowing if or when it could occur, and therefore no way of preventing it. I understand the north carolina consumer council filed a petition back in 2012 and that the complaint volume has been tremendous on this issue. I hope the NHTSA comes to the conclusion that this part should have been recalled. I have no family vehicle now and cannot afford to pay $7500 for a new transmission, that had no issues at all until the defective radiator got a hole. Thank you.

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2015

Issues with the transmission. Began with radiator issues. Come to find out, there has been many issues with coolant mixing into places it shouldn't. Then the torque converter went out, and now the safety neutral switch and valve body. Very short engineering and problem after problem obviously known to Nissan but no recalls reported.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2014

Was on interstate and transmission went out while I was driving with my twin nieces in the car. It was a terrible experience and scary. I don't understand if a company builds something that is faulty how do you not support fixing the problem. Regardless of miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2014

Vehicle was not wanting to accelerate immediately. Took it in for an oil change and had air filter replaced, and check the check engine light. That gave a bunch of codes that all related to transmission. Took it to transmission specialist who said that the radiator cracked and leaked into the transmission. Work to be done is replace radiator, rebuild transmission, and install external coolers. Shop said this is a known issue with the 2005 Pathfinders. Cost is about $5000. They said this also ruined the computer on the transmission.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2013

I'm one of many victims that have endured faulty fuel sending units and inaccurate gas gauges that cause me to run out of gas while driving down the road. With such a widespread problem, it is a pure scam that no recall has been issued. Nissan simply extends the warranty to 72,000 miles, which does nothing to help the thousands of victims with more mileage. Just as they did with the radiator defect that contaminated the transmission, Nissan is getting away with offering help up only to the point when the problem begins to appear. This makes them appear they are doing something, but they are doing nothing for the vast majority of victims. How can you let them get away with this approach? it leaves victims without help, and leaves obviously defective cars on the road. It's dangerous to run out of gas on the side of the road, especially when you live in cold climates and have small children. Help.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2013

During the month of December 2012 I had my Nissan truck serviced. The diagnostic test recommended to replace rear differential fluid, replace cabin air filter, replace windshield wiper blades, air filter, perform engine coolant exchange , transmission fluid exchange, power steering system fluid exchange, perform brake system fluid exchange, and fuel injection . I also had to replace the catalytic converter, which was done by Nissan. I had all of these services performed by the Nissan automotive department. On February 28 2013, my service engine soon light comes on along with sensor light indicating a door is open. However, no doors were open. I take the truck back to Nissan, and they tell me the transmission is about to go out!!!! how is this possible? I have always taken my truck to Nissan to perform the service . I am outraged!!!! all of the service needed has always been performed by Nissan. Please help!!!!.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2012

2005 Nissan Pathfinder. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle fire that was caused by a defect. The consumer stated the vehicle caught on fire while his wife was driving. His wife felt a jerking motion when she pushed down on the accelerator. His wife pulled over, when suddenly another motorist informed her the vehicle was on fire. An investigator believed the cause of the fire was a failure in the transmission.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2012

I began to have trouble when attempting to accelerate, the car appeared to stay in low gear. Took it to Nissan they recommended to replace the radiator and transmission for $5,000! I bought this car on good faith knowing Nissan is a quality product and this is now happening. Nissan apparently knows about the issues with a leak starting in the radiator, and leaking fluids into the transmission, which causes the transmission to go out. Nissan extended the warranty on the radiator till 80,000 miles knowing about this problem, but after doing research everyone having the problem is over 80,000 miles! Nissan will not do a recall! this is unbelievable. I paid very good money for this car, and now have to spend another $5,000 to repair, with a known problem that Nissan will not cover. I will never purchase another Nissan vehicle, since they do not apparently care about their customers.

19 Electrical System problem

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2011

My 2005 Nissan Pathfinder shuttered excessively when decelerating from the interstate and from that point forward had difficulty shifting into higher gears. I immediately took it to a mechanic and was told the transmission had gone bad. In the process of replacing the transmission, they discovered the radiator leaking into the transmission and the computers in the transmission and the car were not communicating.

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2011

I was told by the dealer that my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder's electrical component was "dead. " the car needs a new ipmd and ecm modules. The dealer quoted me a price of $2200 for parts and labor. After extensive research, I learned that there is currently a recall for this problem. My car is still with the dealer. I will advise them of the recall on Monday and request that my car is repaired.

23 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2011

While driving at 40 mph on the lie my car stalled and would not accelearte while I had my sons in the car. Car completely died while moving on the middle of the highway without warning. I had to tow my car to the mechanic and was informed that is my fuse panel, this was in December 2010. I had the fuse panel replaced with an original part and it happened again in Jan. 2011 while driving with my family on the road.

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2011

Nissan needs to step up! this is an unbelievable amount of what is wrong with the world. Since having the many other problems fixed on my Pathfinder(2005) I am now facing an issue of it running sluggishly, high rpm's and less get up. That was one of my favorite things when we purchased the truck, I thought it was safe. I felt comfortable merging into traffic with my 4 children I knew we had power on our side. The tire pressure is constantly ( 1x a week) setting off the tpms, then there is the squeaky brakes and other rattling, vibrating noises. The other thing is the check engine light that randomly comes on for some reason then will mysteriously be gone a few miles later. We bought Nissan thinking it was still a stable reliable company that made a strong product and stood behind it. . . Well were we ever wrong! never again!!!.

25 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

2005 Nissan Pathfinder. Consumer states several problems with the vehicle. She states that it is hard to start, paint is peeling, overdrive light comes on when braking to make a turn and a loud noise was coming from the motor.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2010

We had to replace the ipdm in November 2010, the truck stopped running in middle of the road, we had 118,000 miles on vehicle. In July 2011, we were on vacation in indiana and on our way to see family in ohio. We were on the interstate and the vehicle would not excellerate over 40 - 45 mph. , we stopped at an autozone to test the vehicle to see what the problem was and it cleared it. Since that time, the engine light would periodically come on. On September 15, 2011, the truck would not start. The truck is still at the mechanic to be repaired, we were advised the problem is the radiator leaking into the transmission causing transmission to fail. Cost is $6,000 to repair and truck has 127,000 miles on it. This is a consistant complaint of owners of this vehicle, however, Nissan does not want to do anything to correct the problem. This is my first and last Nissan.

27 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2010

I received a recall letter from Nissan on November 23, 2010 stating the fuel sending unit may cause the fuel gauge to inaccurately display the amount of fuel in the tank, which it did, but when I took my car to the Nissan dealer to honor, they told my that I had to call corporate, called corporate and they gave me a file number and told me that my car was not in warranty for this recall. This problem has been going on for about 2 years now and now they will not honor there own recall.

28 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2010

2005 Nissan Pathfinder. Twice stalled on the road leaving me with no brakes. Two close calls with my family on board. It sits in my driveway useless because of the fear I may be driving down the road and stalls all over again, this time at the wrong place or time causing serious injury or death!!!!.

29 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2010

2005 Nissan ipdm problems. After reading online everyone is having this problem. What are recalls for? 63,000 miles and a dead truck. The big company Nissan needs to step up and fix this small problem instead of milking consumers for unnecessary repairs "trying" to fix the problem.

30 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2010

The problem is the lost power / died randomly in various situations on the Nissan Pathfinder 2005. The failure has occurred at a low speed accelerating into an intersection, at a stop and go traffic, at a steady speed on a city road, and at a highway speed. The failure always occurs without warning or failure indication. I lost complete power; the "service engine soon" light comes on along with the other lights in the dashboard like if the key was just turn on without starting. This failure has been very scary for my family as it has occurred on the highway. No engine codes were found, so no repairs were attempted by the dealer. What is most discomforting is that when I did research on the web, I found that it is a very common problem with this model. . Read more...

31 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2010

Vehicle keeps shutting off in the middle of traffic. But restarting instantly sometimes. Sometimes 5 to ten minutes.

32 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2010

2005 Nissan Pathfinder. Engine cuts off without warning while driving. Has happened twice in traffic, one time at a busy intersection. Vehicle starts about 20 minutes later. Took vehicle to dealer who advised that it's 'most likely' ipdm failure but they are unable to diagnose as it doesn't throw a code. Dealer kept car 5 days and "tried" to duplicate the failure to positively diagnose, but was unable to. The day after picking it up from the dealer the engine quit again in traffic. Now we are told that our warranty company will only cover if they can positively diagnose. My toddler was in the car the first time this occurred and our car died in the middle of an intersection between 2 6-lane roads. Couldn't remove the vehicle for 30 minutes. Just waiting for it to happen while merging on the interstate during rush hour traffic. Hopefully there are no injuries or fatalities as a result of this failure.

33 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

The fuel sensor went out on my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder and it is the same part that was recalled in the 2006 Pathfinders!!!!.

34 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2010

The 2005 Pathfinder has lost power / died randomly in various situations 4 times in two months. At low speed accelerating into an intersection, at a steady 30mph on a city road, and at 55mph on a highway. The failure occurs without warning. I lose complete power, the "service engine soon" light fades in and out along with other lights. This failure has been very scary for my family as it has occurred on the highway with my 15year old daughter learning to drive. She has also been stranded in the middle of an intersection as the vehicle is stalled and cannot be restarted. When trying to re-start, the engine will turn over and maintain a sputter, but not really run and not allow movement. No engine codes were found after two separate incidents, so no repairs were attempted.
