36 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2014

I am driving a group of CO-workers out for lunch. I pull in the turning lane to wait for an opportunity to turn. When it was time to make the turn, I pressed the gas and the truck did not move. I pressed the brake again to check and make sure I had not accidentally hit the gear stick. Everything looked right so I tried to give it gas again. The engine reved loudy but again there was hesitation in movement. Finally, after what seemed like forever, the truck slowly turned. I tried to drive back to the office but had the same issue. I would stop and as soon as I pressed the gas, it would take forever before I would actually take off. The truck moved at a very slow speed as if I was pulling a large load. Turns out it is my transmission. How upsetting when I had no previous warning. More upsetting when I begin to do my research and found out a CO-worker with the same year Pathfinder has the same problem and looking online it appears everyone with this model truck has had this issue or will eventually. Why is Nissan not doing something about this beyond continuously extending the warranty with huge CO-pays that at the end of the day do not really help the consumer? Nissan needs to do something about this. How long will it take for this complaint to be reviewed?.

37 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2014

Suddenly the car no longer accelerated. Nothing was coming or showing me that something was wrong. Stopped at a gas station and turned off the engine and on again then the "service engine soon" light came on. Tried to accelerate but nothing, everything was running smoothly but the car was just not accelerating. Suddenly it started going really slow but 500 feet on the road I had to pull over since the speed went no more than 20mph on a 40mph road. I tried pushing the gas pedal to the limit but nothing. The day before I went to Nissan dealership for a diagnostics which I was charged $105 for. They tried to get me to trade in my car for a new one. They recommended I get the oil pressure switch repair as well as something with the coolant flush and transmission flush. I was going go take it tomorrow but this happened I don't know what to do. The reason I took it to Nissan in the first place was because I was told my model and year were found to be erroneous with transmission.

38 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2014

Problem with the radiator and transmission fluid mixing. Told that this happens often with these trucks. Recommended to either have the radiator replaced and double flush the transmission for 1200. 00, or opt to replace both radiator and transmission by Nissan and pay a CO-pay of 3000. 00, plus\tax. If this is a problem with these trucks then Nissan should fix their products.

39 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2014

In short the transmission in my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder is and has failed. I was in a very dangerous situation on the hyway and jeopardized my family's and my life. The defective transmission/radiator breakdown is a serious situation and a known issue with these vehicles. My radiator fluid leaked into the transmission and failed. The amount to repair this vehicle and make this a safe vehicle is more than we can afford. I feel this faulty product should be recalled and necessary repairs made or a reimbursement made on behalf of Nissan.

40 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

Just got the car last year. . So this year I was driving it and all of a sudden there was a loud knocking noise coming from the car. . Took it in to Nissan and they say its because of the trasmission and radiator. The fluid from the radiator have leaked into the trasmission. An estimated cost of $7000. Just cant afford to get it fix right now!.

41 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

My transmission is going out took it to the dealership and they change the transmission oil and a month later is still doing the same. Take it to another mechanic and he said the transmission oil was black and smelled old. The dealership ask when did I last change the oil and I had forgot the I had the quick lube place flush the transmission a couple of years ago. Call them back and told them what the other mechanic said and I took it back to the dealership and he said that not to bad we can only get so much out. The other mechanic flesh it and change the oil. I'm still having trouble with my transmission it goes real slow when backing up. I have keep my car up real good because I don't have the money to keep buying a new car.

42 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2013

Transmission went out in my vehicle. Has been shaking and having trouble for a while, but finally "died" on December 20th. It is from the coolant leaking into the transmission (something Nissan is aware of, but makes no amends to fix). This is a costly fix and not one I can pay anytime soon. If I am unable to get to work then I can't buy parts and labor.

43 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2013

Engine light is on. Nissan dealer shop recommends to replaced transmission and radiator.

44 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2013

Started having trouble with transmission. Had it checked and it is caused by the radiator.

45 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2013

I was driving my truck on the expressway and I felt vibration when it shift from first to second gear as I increased the speed the vibration got worse and I felt something like it was trying to pick up speed but it could not and finally it caught the gear and was able to pick up speed but at the same time my check engine light came on. So I was able to drive it home and when I got there I called bill kay Nissan to take it I for service. When I took it in they checked it out and I was informed my transmission valve body had become contaminated and it had to be replaced and it would cost me $2098 to replace it and if I didn't get it replaced it was possible for the transmission fluid and radiator fluid could mix and cause the transmission to go bad. Moving forward to June 9th 2014, on approximately may 3rd I noticed I began to feel some vibration again and it felt the same way it felt in August of 2013 and on June 8th the check engine light came on once again so I took it back to bill kay Nissan and was told the transmission and radiator fluid had mixed and I would have to have the transmission and radiator replaced and Nissan had an extended warranty offer but it had a $2500 deductible and I would be responsible for that portion. I've already spent $2100 to have the valve box replaced because of some contamination and now I'm being told I have to spend more money on the same thing. This is not right.

46 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2013

There is is problem with this model vehicle. Thousands of people are having the same problem. The radiator has a leak in it causing the transmission oil to mix with the radiator coolant creating a mixture of gravy type substance. The transmission and the radiator are filled up with this substance. The engine is not being cooled down. The vehicle starts to vibrate after a certain speed. When you pop up the hood it smells like plastic burning.

47 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2013

Driving in town roughly 25 miles, the truck slowed down, you hit the gas to excel and it stops eventually. The mechanic says the transmission coolant leaked, mixed and need to replace the transmission and trained and leaned the radiator.

48 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

I was driving towards reno, nv and every time there is an uphill roadway the engine would rev up and the transmission shifts to another gear,I would feel a thumping sound and on every 3 to 6 miles of driving the vehicle would feel like it is running on an unpaved road. I took the vehicle to the dealership and that is when they informed me that my transmission fluid and engine coolant are mixing. Not to mention that my fsr is no longer functioning properly. It turned out that the fsr (fuel sensor relay) is not on the recall list unless it is a 2006 and up. I don't mind the fsr 'coz I can work on this but the coolant and tranny fluid mixture should be a recall since a lot of people are experiencing this issue.

49 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2013

The transmission in my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder is failing, just as it has been stated all over the internet. Of course the extended warranty from October of 2012 does not assist me. My truck was fine at that time, and now, I am over $124,000 miles. Nissan is still responsible for failing to inform its consumers about the on-going failing transmission issues. Nissan needs to pay for my transmission. I expect it to happen!!!.

50 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2013

Was exiting a side street onto a high traffic road turning left, crossing oncoming traffic. Vehicle lurched forward then lost all forward acceleration. Leaving me in oncoming traffic lane. A separate vehicle nearly impacted the front driver door of my vehicle, sliding to a stop. Upon vehicle inspection at the local dealer, it was determined the radiator that houses a transmission cooler failed and mixed anti-freeze in with the transmission, causing the vehicle to degrade quickly, causing a spurt of vehicle acceleration due to a large transmission slip. This could have cause a very serious injury or death had the other vehicle made contact with my vehicle.

51 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2013

I brought our Pathfinder in to our mechanic for an oil change and inspection. He said that the radiator is going bad. Specifically the coolant that is attached to the transmission. He said that we should not drive the vehicle, as it could blow the transmission. We are lucky that he did such a thorough inspection, as we had no warning signs. I googled the problem and found your website, and that this has been an ongoing problem with Nissan. Our mechanic said he recently had to replace two radiators, one on a 2009 Nissan Pathfinder and another on a Nissan (truck). . . I can't remember the model and year.

52 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2013

I was driving on a highway back from getting groceries in a town 45 miles from me. All of a sudden the car started revving. I took it off of cruise control and tried pressing on the gas. Nothing happened. I pulled off to the side of the road and called a tow truck. After several hours sitting on the side of the road in the dark and by myself, I got it towed back to my town, 35 miles away. I found out that the transmission had gone out. I took it to a transmission shop and they told me that it was the cooling system had leaked into my transmission and fired the tcm. It will cost me $4600. 00 to fix it. I found out that there is a recall on this problem after the fact of it happening and now they refuse to fix their mistake. They will cover up to 80000 miles for the recall and up to 100000 miles with a deductible of $2500. 00. And nothing after 100000. Why did they not inform us of this problem? does anyone have a law suit going on this?.

53 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2013

I just bought this car, and had a problem with transmission to begin with, following with the fuel level sensor (just started), I had to replace the transmission, radiator, now I have to replace the fuel sensor, and 2 days ago the plastic heater receiver that is located in firewall of car had melted, and all anti-freeze had gone and the motor got overheated (why plastic made?, instead of brass???), so the dealer said that I had to replace the whole piece ($250. 00) plus labor, it is incredible how this car company called Nissan is loosing their prestige since started to assembly in us, it is just making more money out of the people with all these crappy parts they are using. We need the federal government to be involved and give us back the money spent on these manufacturing defects as soon as possible.

54 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2013

Failed transmission fluid cooler located in the radiator assembly that allowed coolant to mix with and contaminate the automatic transmission fluid, resulting in damaged internal transmission components and a damaged internal transmission computer.

55 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2013

I took my truck to the Nissan dealership for them to tell me that my transmission fluid and radiator fluids have mixed and that I need to replace both of them. After doing some research I found out that this has been a problem with this truck since around 2007. I called Nissan and asked them what do they plan to do to help me get my truck fixed and they told due to the miles that they couldn't help me. I.

56 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

The 2005 Nissan Pathfinder's transmission started to slip and engine speed would dip and vehicle would feel as though it was attempting to shift into a non existent gear at speed. Several weeks after this started to happen a notification was received in the mail pertaining to the coolant leaking into the transmission oil. After having replacing the radiator and flushing the transmission and replacing transmission oil, the transmission is continuing to slip. Awaiting word from Nissan north America to replace or fix this known issue.

57 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2013

The transmission cooler of the radiator is leaking into the transmission.

58 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2013

Car would not start, got it towed to my mechanic, radiator allowed coolant to mix with transmission fluid. Containment the transmission. Radiator and transmission has to be replaced. Job will cost $5346. 74.

59 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2013

While driving at approx 40 mph, the transmission suddenly disengaged; rpms went up to 5000; was like being in neutral. At the time, I was traveling up a slight incline without a shoulder or safe area to stop. Stopped in the roadway. Had it towed to Nissan dealership. They advised that they were aware of the ¿known issue for a long time and that the radiator part that cools the transmission fluid failed and radiator fluid had entered the transmission causing the transmission to fail. This known issue, was never a recall and Nissan had no intentions on a recall due to a class action lawsuit. Unfortunately, my vehicle mileage is over the class action lawsuit settlement mileage and therefore Nissan will not take any responsibility; leaving ¿strict instructions to Nissan customer affairs to specifically not offer any assistance to persons affected by this ¿known issue. Nissan dealership service dept advised that Nissan had ¿fixed the ¿known issue on a newer model of radiator. Nissan should have recalled the product for a safety inspection and replaced all parts known to fail. Total estimated cost to repair at Nissan dealership started around $8000 and negotiated to $5000. Several private transmission repair shop estimates are approx. $4000. Most private auto shops will not touch this repair due to the ¿known issue and no confidence that Nissan ¿fixed the ¿known issue. Request an investigation with an eye towards safety recall & reimbursement for those who already had to pay out of pocket.

60 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2013

I was driving my 2005 nissian Pathfinder when the transmission started smoking and I had a puddle of transmission fluid under the truck. It was a tannish color and milky looking. When towed to nissian the service manager verified it was the coolant leaked into the transmission and caused the transmission to fail.

61 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2013

Noticed my truck hesitating at about 40mph took in to have checked and was told the transmission and radiator were both failing due to a broken line between the two which caused the fluids from the two parts to mix and cause the failure. Then the good news haha the cost would be $6,000. 00. I then came to read that this is a problem for many and it should have been a recall by the Nissan corp.

62 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2012

Radiator coolant getting into transmission causing the short circuit, transmission computer is inside the transmission which destroys the transmission causing replacement, radiator replacement, thermostat and computer sensors replacement. Cost for replacement in this Pathfinder approx. $5,500 - $6,000 and the remaining loan on the Pathfinder is almost the same amount! according to the local dealership this is a major default of Nissan and a major problem with more complaints than they themselves can count. This Pathfinder belongs to an 83 year old man who uses this transportation to travel with his 80 year old wife to and from 90% medical use, now he can not afford to have the repairs and to no fault of his and due to Nissan's default and will not agree to fix the problem, the Pathfinder can no longer be used and the loan payments are still coming in.

63 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2012

I purchased my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder in March of 2011. Had done great for awhile. Replace a exhaust sensor in August of 2012. Always smelled hot after being driven, like something electrical but could never pinpoint it. Then around November 2012 noticed a delayed reaction in engaging when going into reverse and a slight hesitation coming out of park into drive. Didnt think much about it at time. But has since gotten worse, shutters from time to time driving, and hesitates more often. I called tbe local Nissan service department today, Jan 24, the manager there told me I should call the Nissan consumer office because the company was aware of the issue. So I did. The first person I started talking to hung up on me as soon as I mentioned my vehicles make and model. I called back got someone else, altbough she didnt hang up on me, she was no help. She said because my vehicle was over 100000 miles, there was nothing that could be done. So I got in touch with the Toyota dealership where I purchased the vehicle. They are looking into it for me as well. This is wrong the way Nissan is treating people. If they truly wanted good customer service, they would voluntarily recall these affected vehicles and make it right. I will never purchase another Nissan product or recommend them.

64 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2012

Not even 3 months after we purchased our used Nissan Pathfinder. I had just dropped my older children off at school and my car started to have a hard time. I knew I had to get my vehicle to safety. As I approched a interesction interesction on a very busy main route the car would not move at all. I was scared because the speed on that street is 50+ and I was stuck in the middle of the road with my 7 week old. After being towed and transfered to coastal Nissan in norwell MA. We were told about the "recall" and forced to borrow $2500 so that we could pay to have the vehicle repaired. Nissan told us it wasnt a safety complaint. I beg to differ! I was stranded on a busy street with a newborn if we were struck the outcome could have been horrific. I hope someone will finally do something about this problem!.

65 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2012

The transmission started slipping when accelerating at all speeds. Coolant was found in the trans fluid. The radiator and water pump had to be replaced. We had to also add a oil cooler as a precaution. Now 8k miles later the transmission has failed and will not shift into 5th gear. Best case scenario is a new trans valve assembly for $1500 or worst case new trans for $6500.

66 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2012

My Nissan Pathfinder 2005 stall and wont acclerate I put a new engine 3500 a new gas pump350 a vale body 2000 now they want put another part 1600.

67 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2011

I own a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The engine coolant contaminated the transmission fluid because an internal piece broke. The only reason I noticed any issue is the reverse gear began to have trouble engaging. After visiting two mechanics, I had to replace the entire radiator/coolant system and put in a new transmission. Although Nissan has acknowledged this is a common issue, they refused to do anything to help with the situation. Ultimately, this repair cost me upwards of $6000. 00 to repair.

68 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2010

2005 Nissan Pathfinder. Engine cuts off without warning while driving. Has happened twice in traffic, one time at a busy intersection. Vehicle starts about 20 minutes later. Took vehicle to dealer who advised that it's 'most likely' ipdm failure but they are unable to diagnose as it doesn't throw a code. Dealer kept car 5 days and "tried" to duplicate the failure to positively diagnose, but was unable to. The day after picking it up from the dealer the engine quit again in traffic. Now we are told that our warranty company will only cover if they can positively diagnose. My toddler was in the car the first time this occurred and our car died in the middle of an intersection between 2 6-lane roads. Couldn't remove the vehicle for 30 minutes. Just waiting for it to happen while merging on the interstate during rush hour traffic. Hopefully there are no injuries or fatalities as a result of this failure.
