Check engine light stays on and fuel tank level does not work properly. I don't know what caused it to start. It started on its own.
I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. After filling up my gas tank, I turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. After driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. I can not rely on my gauges to give an accurate reading of my fuel and/or how many miles I have until I am empty. Now I have an additional issue that seems to be associated with this where my oil pressure needle always shows high. This did not fix itself. It appears there is a recall on 2006 and younger models for this issue, but my 2005 Pathfinder is not included in the recall. The issue I am having is exactly what is associated with the other recalls.
Fuel gauge reads full part of the time, empty part of the time and all in between. I have no way of knowing how much fuel I have in the tank. Nissan is recall ing the 2006 Pathfinders for this defect, but are not recalling the 2005 models with the same problem. I have contacted Nissanusa and they have refused to repair my vehicel. The dealer did a diagnostic check and the problem is the fuel sending unit inside my gas tank.
I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. After filling up my gas tank, I turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. After driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. I went directly to the dealer and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 30k miles. After returning home and doing research, I went online to x. Nissanhelp. Com after performing a search, I came across many others who have experienced the same problem. Apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. A similar problem was found on the other models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. I have read that the metal in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. There is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. If this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 xterras, frontiers, and Pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. Cost of repair ranges from $300-600. ".
The gas gauge registered a half tank of gas. The car ran out of gas while driving at 70 miles an hour on the highway.
When fuel guage gets to 1/2 tank level reading or less, it immediately drops to "e" (empty). This is a vehicle my wife drives, and she has run out of gas on several occasions due to the incorrect readings. This is not an intermittent problem, it is constant. We are concerned about potential safety issues associated with this defect, especially since she often travels with our 2 children. Everything I have read from Pathfinder owners relative to this problem indicates it is a defective fuel sending unit. We saw that a recall was going to happen, but were dismayed that it did not include 2005 Pathfinders, as the same type of complaints from owners clearly indicated the problem spanned the 2005 model year. We now try to keep the tank over 1/2 full, but it requires us to make twice as many gasoline stops. This is a significant defect and does include 2005 Nissan Pathfinders. I would be happy to video tape what occurs if needed.
I was driving my vehicle to the hospital one day and the gas gauge suddenly went to empty and the check engine light came on. Every time I fill up now the gas gauge stays at empty until 3/4 tank and my check engine light is permanently on. It's the fuel sensor that has gone bad and it will cost me 600. 00 to fix this problem. I can't register my car because I can't get the check engine light to stay off.
The fuel gauge on my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder isn't working properly. It will go from a full tank to empty and then back.
Gas gauge after filling tank gauged stayed at 1/4 tank nothing worked everything read -------- replaced fuel sending unit seems ok now.
Fuel sending module failure in 2005 Nissan Pathfinder with approx 62,000 miles. This causes "check engine light" to come on and causes vehicle to fail emission test. Fuel gauge does not work accurately either. My understanding is that this is a common problem with all Pathfinders of this vintage and requires the fuel tank to be removed to replace the sending unit. I feel this problem is worthy of a recall since it is so widespread.
I have a 2005 Pathfinder le. The fuel gauge is showing in-accurate reading even if there is no gas in the tank it still reads with a quarter of the tank which could lead to the vehicle running out of gas and stalling the vehicle in the middle of the highway as I use this vehicle on long trips with my family. There was a service bulletin ntb07-069b August 12, 2009 for Pathfinders including this model but the recall does not include the 2005 model which is odd that they will bypass the '05 and start the recall from model '06 till 08, where, there were a lot of fuel gauge complaints. This failure has been happening every fill up. And I have been filling up every 1/2 a tank.
Beginning on or about the date referenced, the fuel gauge began to malfunction by showing incorrect fuel level and "distance to empty" readings. For instance, the gauge will read empty when the fuel tank has just been filled. It will also read full when the tank is nearly empty. This problem has persisted constantly to the present time. This malfunction also causes the "service engine soon" light to illuminate. The code associated with the ses light indicates a problem with the fuel level indicator. This malfunction constitutes a safety related defect which could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of a crash. In that regard, this defect is similar to the one addressed in NHTSA campaign number 10v-075 and should result in a product recall.
Nissan has a well known fuel gauge issue does which shows the tank as empty even with a full tank. My wife has twice run out of gas, once in a major intersection, called me crying. Thankfully a good samaritan came over and pushed her out of intersection. My 16 yr. Daughter is now driving this car and uses freeway daily, what happens when car stops at highway speeds and god forbid is involved in an accident because of this known issue. A 16 year old girl should not be subjected to this. Is Nissan going to admit responsibility if something terrible happened in this scenario? my issue is that this is now being recognized by Nissan and a recall is being initiated. Many 2005 models except the Pathfinder are going to be fixed free. They are only going to fix from 2006+ on the Pathfinder. There are numerous blogs on the internet that illustrate the 2005 Nissan Pathfinder owners are experiencing this exact problem. Are we suppose to spend $600 to fix what Nissan acknowledges as an issue and is fixing on most of their other models except the 2005 Pathfinder. This is ridiculous. Our Pathfinder is the 3rd Nissan we have owned. Previous models were xterra and titan truck.
My gas gauge was not functioning (indicated empty) after I filled the tank and then it would seem to start working again after driving for a few days. It happens each time I fill the tank. I have run out of gas once even though the indicator said I had a half tank. I took it to southern states Nissan in raleigh and they said the fix would cost over $400. I did not get it fixed so I just hope it will have gas even though the tank will read half.
The fuel sensor on my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder has failed. The car registers the fuel tank is empty when there is less than 1/2 tank. This is the second major issue on this car with numerous complaints from others on . This topic and the engine coolant system. This car needs to be recalled!!!!!!!!!!.
Fuel tank on 2005 Nissan Pathfinder doesn't read right. You can run out of gas.
2005 Nissan Pathfinder se 6 cylinder started showing erratic fuel level at 45,000 miles. Fuel gauge will show empty/full or low after filling tank or show erratic levels when close to empty. I have to write the mileage after every fill up and project mileage for next fill up. Dealer will not repair although the 2006 models with the same defective part in the fuel tank are being repaired or recalled. Estimate cost of repair $450-$500. Replacement for defective part is not available at dealership parts store. They are being used for the recall of the 2006 and newer models. This is an issue during long trips and registration.
2005 Nissan Pathfinder se - with approximately 45,500 miles, service engine soon light illuminated, dte reading indicated -----, and analog gas gauge read nearly empty. Having filled up that morning, I knew I had a full tank. Local parts store read the trucks computer indicating a faulty fuel sending unit. After internet research, this seems to be a systemic problem with the Nissan Pathfinder and other Nissan SUV's. Would like Nissan take responsibility for their defect and make repairs at no cost to the consumer.

My 2005 Pathfinder's fuel gauge was working correctly until about 60,000 miles. I had about a quarter tank of gas and filled up. When I started the car the gas gauge said the tank was empty and the service engine light was on. The dealership quoted $600 to replace the sensor and said it was covered under the warranty. I've researched this issue and seems to be common. It's a safety hazard that should be fixed at the manufacturer's expense.
I filled up my gas tank and it didn't register a few days later the check engine light came on I took it to the dealership who informed me that my warranty expired a month ago and I was almost 1,000 miles over the warranty limitation. So because of this I would have to pay anywhere from $400-$800, which I don't have we're in a recession. Also while I was driving to nursing school one morning the 2005 Pathfinder I was driving just stopped in the midst of morning rush hour traffic in the dead of a cold blistering winter morning. Later that day I took the vehicle to firestone who gave me a printout to take to the Nissan dealership for the fuel sensor problem that seems to be apparent in this model as well as others. Again Nissan wasn't willing to fix this problem. I pray that you guys can help us Nissan owners who have invested our hard earned money into a vehicle of this type which by the way isn't a cheap vehicle, to alleviate this problem by asking Nissan to take ownership of the faulty products that they're selling so that we don't have an additional out-of-pocket expense because of a problem that is truly no fault of our own. Obviously this is a safety issue and problem because my vehicle didn't pass inspection. So please help us millions of consumers who are having this problem get corrected through Nissan its the right thing to do since this problem existed in other models and previous models they should make a better product or correct the problem as they occur. Nissan is a reputable company and unlike other automobile dealerships they're doing quite well so they can afford to keep us as customers happy by correcting their fuel system problems.
Fuel sending/sensing unit on 2005 Pathfinder 4x2. Service engine light comes on and vehicle is not able to inform on fuel left on tank. Not the only one with this issue. . Read more...
2005 Nissan Pathfinder. Fuel gauge reads zero, half tank or somewhere in-between when the tank is full. Service engine light comes on and will not go out unless the fuel gauge starts reading correctly (which it sometimes does). This is a known problem. Nissan has even come out with a service bulletin ntb07-069a that addresses the problem. The problem that I have is that this has happened to several people, and the repair bill for a vehicle that is out of warranty is between $400 and $600. I believe that this could be considered a safety issue and a recall should be issued if people are running out of gas due to incorrect or non-existent fuel level readings.
I have a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder with 63k miles. A short time ago I noticed the "down to empty" (dte) gauge was not working, instead it was reading "---" even though I had fuel in the gas tank. I also noticed the gas gauge did not move after filling with fuel. This problem seem to correct on it's own, but then the check engine light came on. After bringing it to the dealer, they said there is a problem with the fuel level sensor. This would be an out of pocket expense since Nissan does not cover it. Through research online, I have found many people who have stated they are having the same problem. This problem should be corrected by Nissan.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that when the fuel tank was half full or more, the fuel gauge would inaccurately read that it was empty. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where the fuel sending unit was replaced. The failure was corrected. The failure mileage was 86,000 and the current mileage was 140,000.
Fuel sensor level gauge (p0463) on my 2005 Pathfinder is not working. Fill up gas tank and gauge in car still says empty and dte says zero and flashing. I have read online many other people with this problem. Nissan dealership is asking for $500 to fix the problem, and its not a normal wear and tear problem. I am 37 years old and have never had this problem before. I have not been in any accidents with my 2005 Pathfinder either.
I will have 1/4 of a tank of gas and suddenly the gauge will drop way past empty. My car just stops which can be very dangerous because you have no warning of sudden stop after the vehicle doesn't get any fuel. After researching this issue I have found that many people are having this same problem due to a faulty unit. I also understand there was a recall for this same issue with the 2000-2004 Nissans. This is clearly a defect on Nissan's part!.
I have a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. After filling the gas tank the gas gauge reads empty and the service engine soon warning light stays on. I currently have about 146,000 km and had this same problem when the vehicle had about 55,000 km. The fuel sensor was replaced under warranty at that time. I have been operating the vehicle like this as the cost is about $400. 00 to replace the sensor.
Nissan faulty gas gauges-recalled after my model. My gas gauge has been bad for the past 2 yrs. At least (went bad right after warranty was up) need to look into models before 2006 also. Check engine light has been on since it went bad. Dealership said $400 for part, not including service. Dealership said gas gauge will eventually just go completely out. Have ran out of gas twice. That was even trying to have half a tank of gas.
