1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2021

Unknown. Every time I drive above 50 mph the car vibrates hard and it’s audible. It feels like the engine. I had it checked out by two mechanics but they couldn’t figure it out. I had my wheels balanced, bought new tires at the mechanic suggestion. That hasn’t helped. I’m not sure if this is safe to drive and it doesn’t make me feel safe. This has been going on for months. Please let me know if they’re similar complaints and what I should do about it. Thank you.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2020

Radiator fluid going into the transmission causing the tcm fail.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2019

Lately, my 2006 Nissan Pathfinder has been stalling or shutting down while I am driving my vehicle. I am not sure why, but everything stays on and runs fine, it is just that the vehicle will not move. I have to move my car to the side, if I can get it there on time, and turn it off. Then I wait a couple of seconds and start it back it. At times, after the startup, the car will run fine, but at other times, I will be able to drive for a little bit and then my car stalls again or dies down. I also have issues with the fuel sensor. It does not work and there is a recall for this, but my vehicle does not fall into the recall, even though there is a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder fuel senson recall. I have always caused numerous accidents because of my vehicle stalling or running out of gas in the middle of the freeway because my fuel lever does not work because of the fuel sensor.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2019

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2018

I was driving down the interstate when out if nowhere it got slightly shaky rumbly feeling and then it up shifted very very hard and redlined the vehicle so I hit brakes and got pulled over and turned it off. I got it towed back home and then next day towed to shop and they told me that the radiator malfunctioned and it had basicly drained antifreeze into my transmission. Said that problem is notorious for these vehicles and that I would need new transmission and radiator now.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2018

Have a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder se, while driving at 65 mph the car shut off and I lost total power of the car and thankfully was able to pull over without getting killed. This has happened 2x I loos total power and the car shuts off. I called Nissan to see if there was a recall and they said no, however there is a recall #10v517000 which Nissan says my car is not involved in that advised this model had a recall for this very problem having the engine shut off while driving it. If there is a recall for this very reason and I have the make & model while Nissan will not investigate why this is happened as it is a direct safety problem. I was told that I could take it into Nissan for them to see what the problem was of course at my expense.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2017

Car started giving problems with transmission in that the vehicle doesn't move when you release the break, you have to accelerate in order for it to start moving. After taking it to a Nissan dealer it was confirmed that it is a factory issue that has happened to many Pathfinder models, in which the water from the radiator gets into the transmission and damages the electrical components of the transmission. This issue is happening to many people. The estimated cost from a Nissan dealer is around $6,000 which is now more than the car is worth.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

Catalytic converters front and back have to be replaced.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2017

Nissan class action suit-oil cooler settlement. Two days ago I took my Nissan 2006 Pathfinder into my mechanic after having continued shifting issues with it. He saw an oily sludge ( transmission fluid) in the radiator, diagnosed a radiator leak causing fluid exchange between radiator and transmission. I live on a remote island in southeast alaska, so there is no access to a Nissan dealership. His shop could not flush the transmission so had me call a shop off-island. I learned from this mechanic of repeat issues with Nissan's leaky radiators. He said I should pursue calling Nissan for compensation of some kind. I did call, received a case number and today during a conversation with a regional consumer affairs agent for Nissan, was told that there was a class action lawsuit pertaining to this very issue but that I missed the filing date and therefore Nissan could not help me. I called Nissan in June of 2016 with an automatic transmission issue that could not be diagnosed because they have no access to any Nissan diagnostic software. I called Nissan then and received a case number and was told there was nothing they could do for me. There was never any mention of the fluid exchange issue that could be causing my transmission problems. I think Nissan should extend the filing date for compensation under this class action lawsuit at the very worst and remove the CO-pay amount. This is their fault. Quite honestly there should be a total recall of anyone owning this faulty radiator. As I said I live on a remote island several hundred miles and a couple of ferry boat rides from any Nissan dealership, and now have no options before me. Nissan only disclosed the issue because I brought it to them, and then offered up information knowing that I was not eligible to receive any of the compensation. I am done with ever owning another Nissan!.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

While driving the vehicle in coming to a stop light several times the vehicle has either stalled coming to the light when I depress the brake or it stalls once I am sitting waiting for the light to change I have not had a chance to look into the ipdm ecm or the crankshaft sensor problem as stated in other complaints I will do that this week. It has stalled possibly 6 to 7 times now 2 times exiting the highway and coming to the stop light and other times on city streets in traffic rolling and attempted to stall or coming to the light installed once I stopped or coming to the light.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2016

Radiator and transmission fluids mixed causing massive radiator blow out and replacement. . Cost of $2000 then after being told the transmission survide and limited driving now a few thousand miles later and about a year later now the transmission is shot no reverse and only one forward gear!.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2016

I paid off my Pathfinder last year. Just about 2 months ago after leaving a friends house the truck started turning on all the dash board lights, I didn't know what to expect. I drove it very slowly home not even a mile away, I turned it off and next day. . My surprise it didn't turn on to take to the mechanic. I called the tow truck to take it in to Nissan dealer and they found that the radiator fluid mixed with transmission oil and messed up the module too. They where originally charging me 7200 dollars to fix. I brought it back home and after when I was able to pay with credit I took it in to fix. They urged me to fix all at once because of a manufacturer defect on any of the above. . Most likely they said it could happen again.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2016

Radiator fluid leaked into transmission. Had to replace both parts.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2016

My transmission stopped with no warning.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2016

Tranmision and radiator.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2016

I have the same problem that has been reported hundreds of times. I have over 100,000 miles, and was put in a very dangerous situation while driving my car. As I was making a left turn across two lanes and into the path of oncoming vehicles, the car stuttered, all of the lights were flashing, power steering went out, and the gas nor break would work. I was halfway through my turn when I realized my Pathfinder just shut down-I had no warnings, or trouble with the car coming up to making my turn. I was very fortunate that I was able to coast onto the street I was turning onto it was by the grace of god I didn't get into an accident. Come to find out the radiator leak into the transmission causing it to contaminate the transmission fluid and essentially blow the transmission. Repair is over $7000 from two different body shops as well as a Nissan certified service center. I of course was not happy when I was told my mileage exceeded the extended warranty coverage. I was also sad to find out Nissan wasn't doing anything for their customers, despite the many many complaints and lawsuits filed against Nissan wasn't doing anything for their customers, despite the many many complaints and lawsuits filed against them. They don't seem to care about consumer safety¿even after the exact same issue is happening with hundreds if not thousands of their vehicles. I am hoping Nissan will do the right thing, and make it right. They shouldn't be waiting for people to die because of this issue to make a change. It seems like they don't care to do anything and less there is serious injury or death caused by this issue.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

The transmission failed on my 2006 Nissan Pathfinder due to a poor engineering issue from Nissan. This problem is a very dangerous problem. Transmission can fail at anytime.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2015

Radiator leaks to the transmission and fume like white milky coming out of the radiator when we open it and the same stuff found inside the transmission. License mechanic was consulted and he found that radiator was leaking to the transmission which damage both radiator and the transmission and I will need new radiator and transmission. Nissan should recall this 2006 Pathfinder and resolve the problem. According to my internet research on this particular 2006 Pathfinder many people complained expriencing the same problem.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

Purchased Pathfinder in 2013 with 140,000 miles from a dealership. After less than 3 years and 20,000 miles the transmission has gone and it will cost over 4,000 to fix while I am still financing over 9,000 for it. All extended warranty deadlines and limitations have expired before I had even purchased the car. It is amazing that for such a severe issue that has been detrimental to many based on my research, that Nissan does not have more realistic and helpful warranty standards. I am not a loss at what to do and Nissan or dealership has offered any help.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

On 8/11/2015 I contacted Nissan regional to file a complaint, 19756783, about a possible issue with my truck. I was told to take the truck in to a Nissan dealership to have a diagnostic. I called the dealership but was told I had to pay a $139. 99 diagnostic fee. I didn't have those funds at the time. My truck is now starting to show signs of jerking while driving. A month ago , I was told the transmission and radiator fluids may be mixing together. Auto mechanic said the fluids looked milky. I drive my four children , ages 11 months to 8 years of age on a daily basis to and from school and after school activities. We have family in the kenosha, wisconsin area which we often frequent. I am extremely concerned that the transmission will fail while driving on the highway at a high speed. Whenever I have to go far, I drive our sedan which seats 5 passengers, yet there are 6 people in our family. I am aware this is not safe, however I feel that it is safer than driving my truck which can stall at any time now. At this time, our children are our first priority and we want to prevent any mishaps to happen. We don't want to be stranded with our four children. I have my truck maintenanced quite often because I take pride in driving a Nissan. I don't want to my experience from Nissan to go from positive to negative. Nissan, please listen to my concern as well as others. I can't afford to pay the $3,000 deductible you are asking for to have the transmission and radiator replaced. We are on a fixed income as my husband is the only bread-winner in our home. Please help. . . . .

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2015

Beware 2006 Pathfinders radiator problems then transmission dies. Our transmission went suddenly as we were on a Mini trip. We got stuck several times trying to get home. Very dangerous. Thank god we did not get into an accident and no one hit us as we were stuck in the middle of a busy highway. We were lucky we got home safely but it was a scary and dangerous experience. We did not know what was wrong with the car. We then get it towed and of cause its the transmission. Same problem everyone is having with these cars. Nissan should of had these cars recalled or extended the warranties so that no one has to deal with this problem and go through the hell we went through on our Mini trip trying to get home safely. They are risking people's lives.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2015

Check engine light came on. Took it to the Nissan dealership and they told me my radiator leaked fluids into transmission and both need to be replaced. I found out there was a class action suit against Nissan for this problem. This is really terrible they won't admit manufacturers fault in this. So now still have to make payments for the car we can't even drive for another 2 years and the repairs came at over $7000. Car is a necessity to people to make a living for their families. We have 3 small children that have to get to school and daycare so thanks Nissan you lost another customer. Hope everyone stops buying your cars.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

Transmission was failing on the way to the repair shop to get it looked at. In the middle of the intersection, it refused to go into gear and caused me to slow down considerably, resulting in a near accident with the car behind me and the car going around me. The radiator had leaked into the transmission, a known problem in this particular year of Nissan Pathfinder.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

In 2012, soon after we purchased our used 2006 Nissan Pathfinder, we knew it was a mistake. Not only did the fuel indicator not work (noticed the day we drove it off the lot) the SUV just didn't feel right while driving. I have been stranded in 100 degree weather on numerous occasions because the fuel indicator says I have fuel, but the light would immediately come on, and the car would cut off & lock up while I was driving it! fast forward to last year, 2015, we started experiencing problems when shifting into and out of park/drive/reverse. The transmission was slipping and sometimes wouldn't even change gears, just keep revving up the engine and not going anywhere. It has left my children and me stranded on numerous occasions since then. Finally, about 6 months ago, the Pathfinder decided to not move out of park at all after cranked. Today, 9/14/16, the transmission left me stranded in the middle of heavy 5 o'clock traffic. I barely had it pulled off the road when I almost got rear-ended! the transmission won't change gears, won't propel the car forward (or backwards) and the shop said it needed a whole new transmission, and maybe a new radiator! I am a student and my husband is in law enforcement - we certainly don't have an extra $4,000 lying around for repairs to a vehicle that should have been recalled! so, it is parked in our driveway, completely immobile and we have a car payment coming up next week (and every month afterwards). We are underwater, still owing $8,000 for a car we thought we'd drive forever, that is valued at around $4,000 on a good day with no transmission issues. Something has to be done! Nissan needs to repair our car ASAP!.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2015

The transmission of my Pathfinder went bad because of defective radiator. It mixed transmission oil and antifreeze in the transmission. It will cost me 6k+ to repair. I read a lot of people had this problem and I want Nissan to fix it.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2015

Coolant is mixing with the transmission fluid and is creating the car getting over heated, the mix is getting discharge in a former of a brown chocolate mixture.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2015

I was driving up a mountain road when suddenly my vehicle began to shake and lose power. The engine then began to rev and the vehicle began to roll backwards. I applied my brakes and put the vehicle in all available gears including reverse and the engine continued to rev. The police were called and I was almost struck by passing vehicles multiple times. After 55 minutes the police arrived and requested an expedited tow. Vehicle was then towed from the roadway. After paying the $135. 00 tow bill to the local tow yard I was able to call aaa and have them tow me the almost 90 miles back to my home in NJ. This was of course the Saturday of memorial day weekend so nothing was going to be open until Tuesday morning. Tuesday morning I had my vehicle towed to a local, reputable transmission place. Ultimately they told me that water had gotten into my transmission and it would cost $3,188. 60 to fix. The transmission place told me that they have seen many Nissans with this type of problem. After going home and googling Nissan Pathfinder transmission I was appalled to see all the complaints about Nissan Pathfinder (and other model Nissans) transmissions. I was literally taken back by it and could not believe it. I then contacted my Nissan dealer and was told that my vehicle would have been covered before November 14, 2014 or if I had less than 80,000 miles. My truck had just over 84,000 miles. I then called Nissan north America. They advised me that in order for them to determine whether they would cover any of the expenses incurred due to this problem I would I have to tow my truck to the dealer and have them take a look at it. Once completed with that, they would submit a report to Nissan north America to determine whether any or all of the incurred expenses would be covered. . . Potentially taking several weeks or months with no guarantee that anything would be covered.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2015

The transmission fluid and the radiator fluid are mixed up due to vehicle design issues. Nissa is conveniently getting out of the complaint by putting in stuff that there is no warranty on the vehicle.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

Radiator fluid has leaked into the transmission causing it to fail. The dealership has issued a fix where the radiator coolant is bypassed from the transmission but then that has not helped. The fix was for $500+ the repairs for the transmission are at $4700/- now. This is ridiculous the amount of repairs is more than the cost of the vehicle now.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2015

Purchased vehicle from car lot Feb. 28, 2015. Drove this vehicle 5 times and the coolant leaked. Flushed system notice there was stop leak in radiator. Now my transmission slips and truck shakes during acceleration. This was a previous issue before I bought the vehicle because the shaking occured when driving home. I thought this was just the tires needing to be balanced, but after research I know that it was from the coolant previously leaking into the transmission, and now I am left to deal with it.

32 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2015

Our Pathfinder started making a noise like you are driving in the rutted pavement on the side of the road that is intended to wake people up who've fallen asleep. It only did this occasionally at first, but got worse quickly. We have taken it to our mechanic and he has discovered that it is a result of liquid from the radiator somehow leaking into the transmission. He has also discovered that this is not an uncommon problem with our make and model of Nissan. There is no recall on this, but it is a very costly and serious issue that Nissan should be paying to repair.

33 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2015

I purchased my 2006 Nissan Pathfinder in 2013 with 109k miles on it. I loved it for 1yr and a half. 2 months ago it started shifting rough, I took it to a local place to be looked at. I was told that Nissan Pathfinders have a faulty radiator that leaks internally into the transmission causing complete transmission failure! would cost $3600 to fix. I called suntrup and was told by the service department that they had never heard of this before and to bring it in, which I did and $100 later they told me the same thing I already knew from the other place for free. They again said they had never heard of this happening before but they could fix it for $6800! I began searching (not too difficult since it is all over the internet!) I called around trying to find a more affordable transmission place and every single place I called knew about the Nissans faulty radiators!! this is a prevalent problem for the years 2005, 2006 and 2007 Pathfinder, xterra and and frontier! Nissan refuses to do a recall stating it isn't a safety issue but there was a class action suit closing in 2013 (year I bought my car) and would fix the transmissions up to 100k (I bought mine at 109k. The national transportation safety board is looking into this issue. I did contact suntrup and talked to the sales manager who said to come in and they would "try and help me". Their solution is to roll the $4,000 I am upside down into a brand new car causing my payments to go up exponentially! (also as a single mom of 3 kids in car seats a car isn't helpful, neither is super high payments). You can not tell me that they didn't know about this Nissan transmission issue being a Nissan dealer! they didn't know about the class action suit, the year I bought the car?!?! perhaps there isn't anything that can be done in my case but I do not think it is ethical to continue selling these models and years!!.

34 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2015

The car is not heating up. The transmission fluid and radiator fluid is mixing together making a pink color. . We have had it only for less than a year. We have loan on the car. I keep seeing online that even after replacing the transmission. More problems keep happening. I looked up the VIN number and it's saying our car make is recalled for the air bag? is there anyway you can help us or could we just trade to get a different vehicle. I would much appreciate someone to help.

35 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

I had pulled into a parking lot to drop my child and another passenger at a school program, to my surprise both rear doors of my vehicle would not unlock or open, I had to climb in through the front passenger side to unbuckle and remove one child in a 5 point harness and let the 2 other children unbuckle and climb out. Once home I had researched and found several complaints of the same problem where Nissan Pathfinder rear doors would not disengage / open from the outside or inside. I did not want to compromise what I consider a safety issue with the advice from blog to attempt to remedy. Having 2 child passengers and generally concerned for their safety I contacted Nissan consumer affairs case#17179820 to explain my safety issue and concern that both rear doors not opening / unlocking at the same time is a safety issue. Nissan reported no advisory / recalls. I was advised to take to dealer and get a quote for work to fix and the case would be reviewed. I was issued a $99 dollar diagnostic fee to be told to resolve malfunctioned door actuator (2 doors) is $690. Nissan did not see this as a safety issue or need to consider a recall and would not cover the charges. I strongly feel that Nissan should recognize this malfunction as a safety issue and cover the cost to resolve the problem as well issue a recall. I am hoping other vehicle owners do not experience the same especially if ever in a emergency situation preventing from getting passengers out of vehicle . I have not returned to the dealership who deemed this non-safety concern and who had advised consumer affairs that the customer is not going to be financially compensated.
