The vehicle will not shift gears due to coolant in the transmission. This has essentially ruined the transmission due to the radiator failing and allowing coolant into the transmission via the transmission fluid coolant lines that run through the bottom of the radiator.
I purchased my car new with may 3-7 miles on it in 2006. I've never had a problems as I keep it serviced on time at the Nissan dealership. The car started performing weirdly this past week. The noise started out as a ticking sound when I would press the accelerator and by the end of the week my car sounded like a motorcycle when I pressed the accelerator! I would even "stutter" when I what on the interstate like it was not in gear. I got two separate diagnostics, one at the dealership, one at a non-dealership mechanic who said it was the transmission!.
Had been experiencing some issues which I thought was transmission. I took car to dealer April 2013 and was told car was in good mechanical order. On January 28, 2014 while driving 40 mph on indian head highway with my elderly parents the car made a loud noise and speed significantly reduced. I was not able to increase speed or shift to another gear. I was able to drift to shoulder and stop car. I had the car towed to dealer and was told that the radiator had a crack causing coolant to leak into transmission thereby ruining (forever) the transmission. After research discovered that this is a known problem of the 06 Nissan Pathfinder. This issue should have been recalled. If I was on the highway going at high speed this could have caused a major accident.
While driving transmission did not want to shift gears. Took to Nissan dealer. They stated has coolant and transmission fluid mixing. Coolant hose ruptured inside transmission.
Vehicle was running normal till we park to have lunch. Start vehicle fine place shifter in gear (drive) was not taking any gear. We have vehicle taking to Nissan dealer. They determine cause due to a faulty radiator leaking coolant to transmission Nissan was not going to do any warranty repairs on the vehicle because vehicle was out warranty.
