1 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2020

Transmission issue due to leak mixture or radiator fluids. Seems to be a common problem.

2 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2019

Radiator failed causing leak of radiator fluid into transmission causing vehicle to be towed to auto shop. Vehicle was in motion on highway and then would all of the sudden no longer accelerate. Mechanics, (got 3 estimates) all said same thing; that this was a problem with these Pathfinders. My cost is about 6,500. I had just bought this vehicle for 8,500 about 3 weeks prior.

3 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2018

All 4 of my catalytic converters have had to be replaced (or need to be replaced - I've already replaced bank 1. Now bank 2 is bad) in the past 12 months or so and now my radiator is leaking into my transmission. I discovered there was a class-action lawsuit on the radiator/transmission issue, but I'm outside of the warranty period. With respect to the catalytic converters, I occasionally smell exhaust, but the check engine lights stay on. With the transmission, it started out as gear slipping, causing rough driving (which the dealership told me was the catalytic converter). Then, it started running slow out of first gear and hard shifting. I took it to a transmission place that pulled transmission codes and when they dropped the pan, the fluid looked like a milkshake. The rough driving/gears slipping didn't matter - it could be on the highway or in the city. I don't know the exact date in 2018 that I had the issue, but I've been dealing with this issue for a year.

4 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2017

The radiator was cracked where the transmission fluid is and it mixed with the antifreeze which caused both the radiator and the transmission to have to be replaced. The engine was on and vehicle was stationary when we noticed the temperature increased greatly and rapidly until it maxed out. The vehicle was leaking a mix of antifreeze and transmission fluid. We replaced the radiator but the damage was done already to the transmission. The vehicle was in motion when the transmission failed.

5 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2017

While driving on the highway, penultimate week. I observed loud engine noise, vigorous shaking and jerking and a reluctance in acceleration when I applied gas pedal. I was a little bewildered as I have been very punctilious with the regular maintenance of my car. I gently pulled into a parking lot to avert any danger on the freeway. Upon exiting the car, I perceived a pungent burning smell. At this point, I knew it would be unsafe and pernicious to drive the car home. I immediately called for roadside assistance through my insurance company and had the car taken to my mechanic. He called back the following day with the most disheartening news. For some uncanny reason, fluid from the radiator was leaking into and contaminating the transmission. He vehemently pointed out that he had seen quite a few of the same ominous problems brought to his shop, involving mostly 2006 Nissan Pathfinders. I was given a quote of about $4500-$7000 to fix this problem. I purchased the vehicle from a used car dealer with approximately 117,000 miles. I'm currently financing the car and because of my student loan and exorbitant fees, I still owe a lot on it. Honestly, I cannot afford the repairs at this juncture. It is very rapacious and immoral of Nissan to abdicate their responsibility and pass on the financial burden to innocent consumers. These cars had factory defects and design flaws that Nissan was aware of but chose to ignore. I enjoin anyone having similar problems and indeed conscientious members of the public to vociferously condemn Nissan's action and force a recall. This is corporate greed at it's worst !!.

6 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

Raditor leaks coolant in transmittion now my transmittion is not working and the coolant has transmitton fluids in it.

7 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2016

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. While the gear lever was in reverse, the transmission failed to operate. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the radiator connector hose leaked fluid into the transmission. The contamination caused internal damage to the transmission. The radiator and transmission were replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

8 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2016

On the second day of owning my Pathfinder I noticed a vibration when I was driving around 40 mph. I took it into the shop less than a week later to have the transmission flushed and to disconnect the radiator from the transmission (did this due to research we found on the internet). The mechanic did see that my transmission fluid was cloudy meaning the coolant was leaking into the transmission. My vehicle was working great for about two weeks until one day I noticed a jerky feeling when driving my vehicle on a city street. That jerky feeling shortly turned into the vehicle shaking when shifting, which turned into not shifting at all after stopping at a red light. My vehicle would barely accelerate, mostly engine revving, luckily I was on a hill where I could coast to the side of the road. This occurred within 5-10 minutes, very quick, little warning. This could have been a very dangerous situation and could have ended worse than it did!!!.

9 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2016

Transmission fluid leaked into transmission causing transmission and radiator failure. Was on mainroad at time and had to be towed to mechanics where upon learning this is a typical issue for these vehicles. Cannot drive vehicle and repairs are very costly.

10 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/29/2016

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, the transmission began to slip gears without warning. The intermittent failure recurred and became progressively worse. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed that the radiator coolant leaked into the transmission fluid which caused internal damage to the transmission. The mechanic stated that the transmission would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 143,000. Js.

11 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2016

Car shakes violently when accelerating and jerks. Have been told I probably have a crack in raidiator and fluids leaked in transmission will be thousands to fix. After looking on internet. I see many people with problem and Nissan is not covering costs.

12 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2016

Known problem by Nissan where radiator fluid leaks into transmission and ruins transmission. Repair cost of $3900. 00. No recall.

13 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2016

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. While attempting to complete a left turn, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the radiator hose cracked and leaked fluid into the transmission, which contaminated the transmission. It was diagnosed that a component within the steering column fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 157,000.

14 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2015

Transmission needs to be replaced due to radiator fluid leaking into transmission. Nissan had an agreement to help cover costs but it only covered vehicles with less the 100k miles.

15 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2015

My cars radiator cracked and leaked into the transmission. The mix of coolant and transmission fluid damaged the transmission and quite possibly damaged my engine. Nissan knows about the radiator because they extended the warranty on it. The repairs for this incident are high the Nissan dealer I took it to quoted me $4,591. 43 to replace the transmission and the radiator and that is with the warranty they claim they have on it. The dealer also told me any other damage caused by this faulty radiator would not be covered and I would have to pay for the repairs to any other components as well they told they me might be an additional $2,000 so nearly $7,000. I had know choice but sell the car off as scrap as the repairs would cost more than the car itself. A failure of all these parts at once is a safety hazard to everyone.

16 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2015

As I was driving on a residential road my 2006 Nissan Pathfinder hesitated to move as I pulled over I noticed leaking from underneath my truck. I open up the radiator cap noticed that transmission fluid in the radiator fluid has mixed.

17 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2015

Another classic story of Nissan Pathfinder transmission failing due to engine coolant leaking into the transmission fluid cooler system resulting in catastrophic failure of the transmission.

18 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2015

Leak in radiator causing cross contamination between radiator and transmission fluids. This is causing hesitation in power during operation of vehicle. Per the Nissan service provider we took it to, the cars needs a new transmission and radiator at the cost of $6000 or it will soon die. We believe this is a manufacturer 's defect and a known flaw- many other complaints are posted by other owners.

19 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2014

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that there was contamination of radiator fluid in the transmission and that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also stated that while previously in park, there was engine oil leaking from underneath the front part of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the radiator was leaking fluid into the transmission and that the radiator needed to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.

20 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2014

A faulty radiator caused fluid to leak into my transmission, causing major damage to the transmission and the computer inside of it. The issue was initially noticed on a drive up into the mountains (although at the time we did not what it was). As we were climbing uphill we noticed a shuddering and it felt as though the transmission was slipping a bit. We made it back home safely, but on two subsequent trips on the highway the same thing happened as well as it overheating on one occasion. I also noticed that while driving in town, the transmission would jump a bit upon putting it into gear and there was also another occasion of it overheating. Thank goodness we were never put in a dangerous situation due to this issue, although that probably has a lot to do with the fact that we limited driving on the freeway after first noticing the problem, as it was more noticeable when driving at a higher rate of speed.

21 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2014

Fluid from radiator leaked into transmission, completely burned out.

22 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2014

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving 5 mph, the vehicle failed to shift into reverse. The vehicle was placed into neutral and the contact was able to drive. The problem has occurred several times. The contact called an independent mechanic who stated that the failure might be due to the radiator fluid leaking into the transmission. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified about the failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.

23 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2014

Fluid from radiator leaked into transmission which destroyed both.

24 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2014

I was driving on interstate 75 in atlanta, GA at the beginning of rush-hour when my vehicle suddenly started jerking. This is a 6 lane highway and I was riding in the center lane. While attempting to work my way to the right shoulder, I was unable to accelerate because my transmission was unresponsive. I had to hit the accelerator really hard to get out of the way of 18 wheelers and other fast moving vehicles. Thankfully, I was able to get the vehicle out of the way of on-coming traffic without incident. I had my vehicle towed to town center Nissan, which is where I take it for regular servicing and was informed on Friday 1/24/14 that the transmission 'was shot. ' not willing to take their word for it, my husband and I visited an aamco transmission location and was told by the technician that there was a class action law suit against Nissan due to radiator fluid leaking into the transmission. He stated that he had serviced 8 - 9 Pathfinders with the problem. My husband contacted Nissan corp and the dealership about our discovery. Nissan initially denied any responsibility, but stated that they would investigate. We were contacted by Nissan corp yesterday informing us that our problem was not due to cross-contamination, but due to an issue with the transmission fluid, in other words, it is our fault. What is most interesting is that this is our regular service site, so any issues with the transmission should have been reported to us by them. That is what we have been paying them for. They have quoted us $4500. 00 to replace the damaged transmission. They also made a point of stressing the fact that they would not have addressed it anyway due to the fact that we have over 100,000 miles on the vehicle. Yes in 2014 we have 118,000 miles, but we were well below that number when this mess surfaced in 2010. What's worse is we never received a notice from nmac.

25 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2014

My family and I were on the highway close to home,in traffic when our car made a pop noise and our car completely shut down. Luckily no one hit us or hurt, as like I said we were in a heavy commute. Our car was taken to our local mechanic were we found out the transmission failed due to radiator fluid leaking into the system a $5,500 repair we can not afford. We also found out this is a common problem in certain makes of Nissans, they have numerous complaints which we were never informed about. All Nissan owners should have been notified of the problem and a recall to all models!.

26 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2013

Car shutters when we get to about 45 mph and you can feel some issues with the transmission. After doing a lot of research, apparently this is a known issue by Nissan. There was a class action law suit that says this is not a safety hazard so they made an arrangement to cover some, but not all, in full. Apparently radiator fluid is leaking into the transmission and ruining the transmission. The settlement says that at my mileage, over 90,000 miles but before 100,000 they will fix the problem for $3000! wow! how sweet of them. I can't believe this is not a recall. There are threads and threads of people complaining about this exact problem. It effects 2005-2010 models. They say it only effects a small amount, that is because they haven't even seen the impact yet. Are we going to wait until someone is really injured to do a recall. This is absolutely ridiculous. Guess I will just drive it like this and hope that it doesn't hurt me or someone else, since Nissan says it is not a safety hazard. How issues with a transmission are not a safety hazard is beyond me. I think this needs to be addressed again. This is my second Nissan and the second one that I have had to have a transmission replaced in. The other one was replaced in the first year because of another issue that they couldn't fix. No more Nissans in this house!.

27 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2013

Wife noticed problems with our 2006 Nissan Pathfinder with 120k miles on it while driving home one day. When she got here it was leaking transmission fluid and we had it towed to our local transmission shop. They informed us that a coolant leak caused our transmission to fail. After doing some research online, I noticed it is a very common problem with certain years of Nissans. It was our primary vehicle and I didn't have the time to hassle with the Nissan run-around so had it repaired for over $3,800. We will never buy a Nissan again if this is how they do business. If its a known problem and cause so many customers so much grief with their poor design, they should be held liable for the damages and then some for not being considerate and informing their customers of this flaw. We will be sure to steer clear from any Nissan for any upcoming purchase. That is just an outrageous bill to pay for a known defect and they should be ashamed for running their business like that.

28 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2013

The coolant was leaking into the transmission fluid. Nissan must have known there was an issue to extending the warranty from 60,000 to 80,000. The Pathfinder was taken in for service for a few months because something wasn't right and finally found out the issue was coolant leaking into the tranmission fluid at 83,000 miles.

29 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2013

As my wife and I with our 5 children were on our way to church, driving at 45mph the car started jerking dropping at 20mph with traffic behind us on a two way highway we had to pull over on a dirt embankment. We took the car to Nissan dealership and the service rep estimated the cost of $9,000. Problem in radiator crack line inside transmission fluid cooler. Antifreeze leak into transmission causing damage.

30 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2013

I recently bought a used 2006 Pathfinder. I was at a park on day and a guy came up to me asking me if I had any transmission problems with mine. I told to him that I had only had it for a few weeks but had not noticed any problems. Well he went on to tell me that he had transmission problems due to coolant leaking into transmission and had spent 3,500 in getting it fixed. In which he had to replace radiator, rebuild transmission and transmission computer part. He had a friend that done the work for free and he only had to pay for parts. So of course with just buying our Pathfinder I came home and told my husband the news and to look it up on the internet because there were so many others with this same problem. So after looking on the internet he went and checked the fluids and of course we had transmission fluid in our radiator. We haven't even paid on our truck 6 months yet and already have a major cost to have repairs made. It is so crazy to see all these people with the same problem and Nissan will do nothing about it and they claim to have great customer service????!!!! I will let anyone and everyone I know of this problem so that they to can make a claim against Nissan so maybe they will have this problem fixed since if you call any dealership this a known problem.

31 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

My radiator cracked fluid leaked into my transmission. I have had the transmission fixed twice.

32 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2013

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic for a diagnostic test. The mechanic stated that the radiator fluid was leaking into the transmission fluid. The mechanic replaced the radiator and flushed the transmission however, six months after the repair the vehicle stalled as the contact attempted to start the engine. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic, who stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 75,000. The VIN was not available.

33 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2013

Check engine light came on. Went to Nissan dealership had it checked out. Dealership said radiator let fluid leak into transmission. They said I need a new radiator and new transmission at a cost of $5300. They advised me to call Nissan corporate which I did and they said I had too many miles for warranty to cover any expenses. Can't do without my SUV. American transmission quoted me a price of $4900 to replace radiator, transmission and new computer. I first bought a quest then a exterra and now the Pathfinder all purchased new from Nissan dealerships. It will be the last!!!!!!!.

34 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2013

Vehicle would begin to shake and lose power at exactly 43 miles per hour. To adjust, you would have to release the gas pedal, slow down and then press the gas pedal again to correct the problem. Clearly this causes highway issues when entering or exiting on ramps or streets that have a posting of 40 to 45mph. Not having the power to accelerate or decelerate, puts not only my family at risk, but those around us as well! when the issue was diagnosed, I was told that it was a Nissan extended warranty issue involving the radiator fluid leaking into the transmission. My vehicle has 82000 miles (2000 miles over, which would have qualified for free service) which meant that I was now liable for the $2500 dollar deductible for their faulty equipment!.

35 Transmission Fluid Leaking problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2013

While driving our vehicle it would not produce any forward movement, the engine would rev, and the transmission would free spin. We had it towed to the mechanic and he stated that there is a transmission code for a faulty servo. He checked the transmission fluid and found it to be abnormally dirty. Nissan has an extended warranty for radiator coolant leaking into the transmission that was a result of a class action lawsuit. My problem is that I am over the 100,000 mile cap for the warranty and Nissan will not grant a waiver. I also feel that Nissan should issue a recall and be required to pay for the full replacement cost of these items. Even if I was under the 100,000 mile cap I would still have to pay a $3,000 deductible.
