1 Timing Tensioner problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2013

At 35,500 miles the secondary timing chain tensioner shoes failed. The dealer told me that this is a very common problem with the 4. 0l motor. This repair is $1000 and not covered by any remaining warranty. I believe that since thousands of people have had to pay thousands of dollars to repair this defective part it should be a recall. This would be dangerous if this failed while the vehicle was moving at highway speeds, luckily I was driving slow enough to avoid an accident.

2 Timing Tensioner problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2011

A high pitched whining noise from under the hood on a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder. Took the car to the dealership in modesto California and my wife was told that it would cost 1,300 to replace the timing chain tensioners or more if the timing chain(s) were bad. The car has 71, 000 miles and I was told that it would not be covered under the warranty. My wife was told the car was safe to drive and was told that there was no risk of further damage to vehicle. I have read several other instances where timing chain components fail just beyond the manufacture’s stated warranty. The issue has had a TSB since July of 2007 #07042a. I have had all of my service done at this dealer and I had never been advised about the TSB or the noise. The timing chain nor the tensioners should not fail at 70,000 miles. I also have uneven tire wear with no alignment issues. Vehicle=lemon.

3 Timing Tensioner problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2009

Engine noise coming from the secondary timing chain and tensioners. The first time I took it to Nissan dealer they told me they couldn't find anything wrong. When I brought it back months later they told me I had low oil in engine and combined with I was past the 60,000 warranty now (67,861) that I would not be covered under warranty. They knew this was a problem and claimed that I had no record of it being a problem since they couldn't "find" anything when I brought it in the first time. Two dealerships told me that it was just a noise when in fact Nissan has known about the timing chain issue this whole time. I was told to pay for the repair myself which was above $1,500. 00.
