Eight problems related to gasoline fuel system have been reported for the 1996 Nissan Quest. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The contact owns a 1996 Nissan Quest. The contact stated that the fumes from the gasoline system were entering the vehicle and becoming overwhelming. The dealer was contacted who advised the contact that the vehicle was under recall and that it would take two weeks to obtain the parts needed for repairs. The contact did not inform the manufacturer of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The current and failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
My 1996 Nissan Quest has fuel vent problems particularly after refuel. I smell fuel inside the car and I am concerned about the risk of fire and/or explosion. This problem appears to be identical to the problem described in NHTSA recall number 00v419001. However, Nissan company is saying that my Nissan's VIN is not included in the recall.
The contact owns a 1996 Nissan Quest. While driving to a stop. The contact noticed a puff of smoke near the front end of her vehicle. She stopped and exited the vehicle to look under the hood and noticed flames. She immediately slammed the hood down and removed her children from the vehicle. The fire department extinguished the fire and stated that a fuel leak was the cause of the failure. There were no warning indicators prior to the fire. A police report was filed. Strong gas ordor inside vehicle while drive. It got so bad it actually caused headache. I have no sense of smell was unable identify this problem sooner till headached starting to occured. Then other people told me that there are strong gas ordor inside vehicle. I googled it and realized lots of people who owned 1996 Nissan Quest has the same problem. I called Nissan dealer and was told VIN # was not part of recall #00v419001 (fuel system gasoline).

When traveling there is gasoline smell inside of vehicle. Dealership is aware of problem. Consumer states there is also a gasoline smell when vehicle is parked.
I have had many problems with this ouest. I have replaced the heater control,both side exhaust manifolds,replace acc c/v boot,replace antenna motor,replace air bag control unit,replace back windshield wiper motor,replace both front lower ball joints and the vent hose. This are just the major things. I have spend around 7000. 00 on this Quest for repairs and up keep. I brought it new in may of 1996. Never again.
