While parked and waiting for drive-thru service, my Nissan Rogue began to smoke and immediately turned into flames under the hood. There was no malfunction or problems before this incident. Approximately 15 minutes prior to the incident, the driver stopped and filled truck with gas. After driving from the gas station, the driver went approximately 10 miles for food, where the car began smoking, and flames coming from under the hood. There were no warning signs, messages or malfunctions prior to this incident. The car was running quietly and smoothly and had not encountered any problems prior to the incident.
I was driving the vehicle and stopped at a sonic drive thru. I shifted the car into park and I began to hear a very loud creaking noise. When I shifted the car into drive, the car wouldn’t move. I called a firestone mechanic and he concluded that it was the cv belt that is connected to the transmission. Regardless, only a transmission shop could handle this issue. I called carmax auto, and spoke with a jason hewitt. Mr hewitt informed me that carmax will have a tow truck come get the car. The following day, the car was towed by carmax to amaco for an official diagnostic. I was notified the following day that my vehicle had a damaged axle and appears to have been cause by a “car accident. ” mr hewitt told me to file a claim in my insurance. I told mr hewitt that most likely the tow company damaged my axle. He stated he didnt know what exactly caused it but they will not be able to address the transmission issue until this axle and converter is paid for. Additionally, I’ve had the car for 14 months and 6 months into my lease agreement, the check engine light came and stayed on due the catalytic converter. The air and heat stopped working in September of 2023.
Vehicle failed emissions portion of the state state inspection (emission) test.
I live in colorado and on one than more occasion I have been driving at elevation (crossing a mountain pass) and the vehicle loses any power to the gas - the pedal is literally on the floor but car loses speed. The last time this happened (this past may), I was trying to climb one of the passes, and my car would not go faster than 35mph, in an area with a minimum 60mph speed limit. I had to move into the shoulder so semi trucks could pass me. I can't believe this hasn't been a recall issue - if you google this problem, you will find many Nissan owners (particularly early Rogue models) complaining of this exact issue. It is incredibly dangerous and if this is a mechanism of the vehicle (a heat or elevation issue), it should never have been sold in mountain or desert regions. Regardless, Nissan should be fixing this problem at no charge to the customer.
Safety put at risk due to horn not being able to work and the primary reason for this complaint is the engine. The car stopped accelerating, which was resolved, but then the car would no longer go in reverse!!! it is unknown why this has happened. We suspected the cvt prior to even learning of the cvt class action lawsuit. Please advise! thank you for your time and consideration!.
The cvt transmission is failing on longer drives in warmer weather. The car stalls and stops accelerating and eventually stops running altogether. This has occurred when my daughter is driving on the highway and it is a huge safety risk as it renders the car disabled in traffic.
We were on the highway and had been driving for about two hours. When climbing a hill the vehicle refused to accelerate even with the gas pedal all the way to the floor. Went from 75 mph to 35 mph. Would not go over 2000 rpm. We had recently been using the cruise control but weren't when this happened. No engine lights or problem indicators came on. We pulled to the side of the road and opened the hood but nothing appeared to be wrong or overheating. We waited 10 minutes and continued on the highway. Everything was fine after that, but we didn't go up anymore hills. Mileage at 100000.
While the vehicle was stationary, the gear shifter locked and would not unlock to move to a different gear even when brake was compressed. Dealership said it needed an entirely new shifter assembly.
2010 Nissan Rogue. Consumer writes seeking reimbursement for damages after car caught fire. The consumer stated both the manufacturer and dealer were notified. The manufacturer sent an inspector for the vehicle. No further information was offered.
My car loses power while driving down the interstate. I could be driving at 65mph then it just slows to about 35mph for no reason and makes a whining noise. If I am at a stop sign, I will hit the accelerator and the car wont go anywhere. I'm scared to make a left turn now or cross an intersection because I'm not sure if my car will go anywhere. I've nearly been hit several times. Nissan is not cooperating with me. I've already replaced the battery, alternator, paid for a diagnosis which they now say is the 'brake switch. " I'm tired of dumping money into this and not having it solve the problem. Nissan claims that no one else has a problem like this.
I can't drive if I don't push the vdc off switch ,then the slip light come on ,other ways the vehicle make some noise it's like the brakes is been applied also there is horn no sound and cruise control doesn't work.
Taking a short day trip, about a 2 and a half hour drive, my car stopped accelerating about an hour in. Gas pedal to the floor and nothing happened. On the way back home it was worse we had to stop almost every 10-20 miles to let the car rest. I just had this transmission replaced about a month ago. I would stop to maybe cool down the transmission for about 15-30 minutes, then it acts like nothing was wrong. It also has a whining noise like something is winding up.
Transmission display symptoms of failure while going 65 miles an hour on a highway with my children and ultimately stalled out.
I put my car in park. Left the car running. Got out to remove garbage can blocking driveway. Looked up and car was rolling backwards. It was stopped by a tree.
I started my vehicle and attempted to shift into drive and the shift lever would not move. The only way I can get my vehicle out of park is to use the shift lock with the key, move the lever to neutral. Then I am able to start my vehicle and put it in gear.
Car doesn't accelerate on long trips it stalls down to 40-0 mph on interstate leaving you to wait 30 mins on the side of the interstate before it accelerates. I almost got hit by a big truck because of it stalling down. I've taken it to multiple shops and no one knows what the problem is. This is very dangerous.
I was driving on the highway at about 75 mph for around 30-40 minutes when the car stopped accelerating and began decelerating. I had my foot all the way down on the gas peddle and it just kept losing speed. Lucikly I was able to coast into the right lane, because I wanted to get into the breakdown lane when the car finally began to accelerate again. The car began acting normal after that until I got off the exit ramp about 10 mins later. I stopped at the end of the ramp and when it was my turn to go the car had again no power. My foot was pushing the gas peddle to the floor and the car just began to roll, I quickly had to turn on my hazard lights and roll to the side of the road. My husband and I waited for a few moments and then the car drove normal. This has happened a few times to me now, always after driving on the highway for about 30-45 mins. I have been looking online and have seen many complaints about this same issue, but Nissan refuses to file any kind of recall. I have owned a few Nissans but after this, and reading all the complaints about the same problem this is my last one. I could have killed myself or someone else if this had caused an accident. It seems to me that everyone driving a Rogue is driving a ticking bomb since you have no idea when this is going to happen. This needs to be addressed and investigated as to why Nissan is not fixing an issue that they know exists. Do they care that little about the safety of their customers.
I have a 2010 Nissan Rogue that has 60,000 miles and the last couple of years it has began to lose speed when on the highway going 65mph. When I would push on the gas pedal it would not accelerate past 40mph. This would happen when driving longer than 1 hour and when going uphill. None of the service lights would light up, but it was very scary driving on a highway going 65mph one minute and then 40mph the next minute, especially this highway has a minimum speed limit of 55mph! this has been my only real safety issue with this vehicle other than the tires constantly deflating and the awd does not do as well I expected in the snow.
My nissa Rogue have a transmission replaced back on 6/18/2014 when I was 10 hours away from home now here in town my car doesn't want to pass 10 mph and it does a horrible sound when the gas is push to go is so unsafe. I have to stop driving right them.
On 12/7/15 I honestly thought someone shot at my car! driving on route 7 in kearny, n. J. , no other vehicles near mine. I had the interior shade closed, but could hear pieces of glass breaking and realized it was my sunroof that was coming apart. I called insurance and they asked if I had driven under an overpass, no mention of explosion. I paid to have the sunroof replaced at lido auto body in belleville costing me $303. 35. Have photos and invoice, I am 68 and do not possess the technology or knowhow to "upload" these but will happily mail these.
The sunroof of my car (while I was driving) exploded! fortunately the inside panel was closed. I imagined something hit the sunroof, but there was nothing inside the well. Just recently I watched a news program that showed that many sunroofs are exploding due to flaws in the glass. The cost of the repair was under my deductible, costing me $303. 35 to replace. I was driving on rt. 7 "belleville turnpike" kearny, new jersey. Nothing was near me at the time - it sounded like I had been shot at! I had the repair done at lido auto body in belleville, n. J. It took three days to complete the repair, I had to rent a car (enterprise) to go to work costing me $124. 74. I have photos and invoices, but I do not know how to facilitate a download if I am provided a fax number, I will gladly provide whatever documentation required.
Remote entry stopped working for past 6 months with driver's door and on 9/23/15 the drivers handle completely broke off when opening door.
2nd complaint of repeated issue, subsequent occurrence. 2010 Nissan Rogue lost power and decelerated from 70 mph to approximately 40 mph while traveling on highway, hazards applied however vehicles approaching had to change lanes. On this occurrence a vehicle check engine light appeared. Pulled off road and when accelerator was depressed engine revved to approximately 2500 rpm with no forward motion then lurched forward rapidly accelerating then lost power again before returning to normal operation. Note that Nissan dealership acknowledges that this is a known issue, instructed that the cvt transmission warranty has been extended to 120k miles and to bring to dealership. Nissan states this is the result of transmission overheating and causing the vehicle to enter safety (also known as limp) mode.
Pulling away from multiple stop signs, the Rogue would not accelerate even with pedal pressed to floor. People were honking behind me and passing. Had this same issue with going through traffic circles to slow down and yield and then try to accelerate again. Rogue took several minutes to go up to 40mph. I finally had to pull over into parking lot. I turned car off and waited about 5 minutes to then try again. When I turned the Rogue on this time, it seemed to function normal. I was able to continue at normal speeds and acceleration the remainder of my trip. My husband and our mechanic were not able to replicate the problem. I have read that many people seem to have this same issue. Very dangerous since you expect car to move as you pull into traffic and it does not. There were no lights on dash at time of incident. I have noticed the vdc & slip light has come on several times over the past 2 weeks for no apparent reason. Including today about 3 hours before this acceleration problem. I had been driving to several places throughout afternoon with car shut off between. I would estimate I drove a total of 60 miles over a 5 hour period. Car started acting up during the last 30 minutes before my final destination. When this took place, it took me about 1 hour to go 17 miles. Normally it takes me just under 30 minutes.
Straight out the lot 13 miles on it when I purchased it. About 6 months after I purchased my 2010 rouge, it started to make noises when I would go over a dip or a small bump on the road (30,000 miles or so). The noise sounds like something is loose. I took it in 2-3 times to Nissan they said they couldn't replicate the problem. It also started making a vibrating noise when I would be idling at a stop sign or traffic light. The vibrating sound I was told was due to the throttle being dirty. I had that cleaned and a few months later it stated doing again. My rouge now has over 100,000 miles on it and it it started loosing power and it is not accelerating on the highway. I was on my way to dallas and my rouge wouldn't speed up, I was driving like 78 mph and then decelerates to 55 mph, this is very dangerous. This is the third time that it has happened, pretty scary stuff. I had to pull over on the next exit and check out my car. Once I tried to get on the road again my car refused to move it was acting like it was going to turn off, sort off like when you make an abrupt stop and it jerks. It took of very slowly and then after a few minutes it was back to normal.
The first time the incident happened I was exiting the expressway and after stopping at a red light the car started to make a weird noise. When trying to accelerate through the green light the car would not move for 15 seconds. I even tried slamming the gas pedal down. After that I would always hear a whining noise when driving on the expressway or a prolonged amount of time. When driving out of state to tennessee the car started to decrease in speed on a hill and I was almost hit by a cop. Pulling over at a gas I let the car sit for 30 mins. I tried to renter the expressway and the car still would not move. After a while I was able to get back on the expressway. Once in tennessee the car barely made it up the hills I had to time it just right. On the way back to GA the car began the issues again and while trying to pull off the car decreased in speed so quickly I was almost hit by a semi-truck. I have taken the car in for the electrical recall that did not help. The car has had two complete tune ups nor has not worked. I refuse to pay out of my pocket for another transmission; which has not aided others in this same situation. I have been dealing with this for a year. Everyday it's a guessing game if the car will ever get me to and from work safely.
While the vehicle is setrup on cruise for 70 miles, suddenly the cruise coast was shoiu off and vehicle start going down, even while we press accelarator, no response. The accelerator was completly floored, but the vehicle slowed down till it reaches 35 mph. I stopped the vehicle on the side of highway and shutoff the vehicle for 15 mts and re started. It performed normally till high elevation came and then started the same issue, this time with out cruise control on. Like this it went on till I reach pennsylvania state. This hsppend while I am traveling from lexington, ky to new york NY. It happened again while coming back, once I crossed pennsylvania and reached us 68 maryland and continued till I reach us 64 till weschester. This time me, my wife and my daughter are pannicked for every two or three hours and took break for 20 mts for every three hours. The total 12 hrs travell took 20 hrs for us to reach lexington, ky. 2010 Nissan rougue is only 5 months old, I bought it from carmax, lexington, ky. This I observed on highways and while going in elevations, if that is the case from lexington where ever I travel is always high elevations. Please give justice to us.
I have a Nissan Rogue. My Rogue has been losing power and having issues accelerating at times. I am not sure why it is mainly when I have been driving for a long time. I have not been able to get the issue diagnosed because it doesn't do it when I take it to the mechanic. I am not sure how to go about this issue. I do feel that this should be a recall since several Rogue owners have the same problem.
As my son and I went on a day trip with my sister and nieces to the ocean my car decreased speed from 75 mph to 30 real quick people behind us swerved off of the road avoiding hitting us. I pushed the gas pedal all the way down and the car would not even accelerate. I had to stop at a gas station so I coud call someone to let them know of the car problems I was having. I took back roads home because I did not feel the car is safe for us. I am disappointed that it is doing this as I have only had it since 2010.
There is clearly an acceleration problem with the 2010 Nissan Rogue; over 900,000 people have complained and a recall has not been issued. It seems that the car has problems accelerating after it was stopped. It typically did this if you were either stopped on a hill or if you stopped after driving high speeds on the interstate. After several incidents over the course of 3 months (I purchased vehicle August 2014), the "service engine soon" light is now on. I have just a little over 38,000 miles on the vehicle. The loss of acceleration is dangerous for both exiting the interstate and turning right on red.
While driving down the road I all of a sudsen heard a loud smashing sound. The car seized up and the wheels locked. Thankfully I was not on the highway or I would have been killed!! the car was towed and the diagnoses indicated that the u joint had sheared off the drive shaft and pulled out the shifter cable. The entire drive shaft and shifter cable needed to replaced at a cost of 1400$. The car was only four years old and is regularly maintained. In fact during the month of June the car had been to inskip Nissan for a oil change and multi point inspection and to a local garge for a state of ri safety and emissions inspection.
The details of this complaint are filed under NHTSA complaint #10614462. On 7/16/2014 the ujoint on my 2010 Nissan Rogue sheared off the driveshaft dropping the driveshaft and pulling out the shifter cable. Repairs were $1400. After several attempts to contact Nissan I was told that since I did not service my vehicle at a Nissan dealership they would not offer any good will assistance. They stated that all recommended service would have had to have been performed at the dealership in order for any out of warranty assistance.
I was at the speed of 65 mph and when climbing hill the speed drops down to 40 mph.
I stopped the vehicle with the shift lever in drive. When I tried to shift into reverse to back up I could get no farther than neutral. The release button on the shift lever would not move. I could not get into reverse or park. I managed to get the cover on the right side of the shift lever off and a broken piece of gray plastic fell out. The shift lever release button then worked and I was able to shift into reverse and into park. I have driven the vehicle several times with no more problems. Not being able to get into reverse in a timely manner could cause a serious situation to develop. I saved the broken piece of plastic that jammed the release lever.
As we accelerated the car began to jerk. After a few miles the car slowed down in speed and would not go passed 40mph. The car was set to 70mph on cruise control then it dropped speed and would not accelerate causing me to get off of highway right away. This is not the first time this has happened. It has been taken to Nissan dealership to fix the problem but this time it's worse.
