general problems of the 2021 Nissan Rogue - part 1

Vehicle will come up with a collision warning and tell you to refer to the owners manual. And then tells you to pull over and shuts off the vehicle. After 10 seconds vehicle starts up again and drives. My wife it have been seriously injured or worse had others in the road not been paying attention. No check engine light. Researched multiple people online with the same issue. Vehicle needs to be recalled. This is a dangerous safety issue.

Computer system keeps messing up, I’ve taken it in a couple times for the same issue and it still keeps getting worse, sending wrong signals also sometimes it revs up when driving out of nowhere and it’s dangerous.

When activating the right turn signal the windshield washers and wipers will turn on. Washers, wipers, and the turn signal all turn off when the turn signal is deactivated. This can cause some unexpected visibility issues while turning. Also, when turning the headlights from "auto" to the "off" position the windshield wipers will turn on. The wipers will stay on until you switch back to "auto". These problems are repeatable. I plan to contact the Nissan dealer to see how much a multifunction switch replacement would cost.

I was driving my car and my car all of a sudden dropped speed and when I pressed the gas my car started shaking and jerking.

I am reporting a serious safety incident involving my 2021 Nissan Rogue, which caught on fire unexpectedly on Feb. 6, 2026 approximately 4:30 am. The fire originated from the vehicle without warning and posed an immediate danger to life and property. The vehicle was parked at the time of incident. There were no actions taken that would reasonably explain a fire of this nature. This incident could have resulted in severe injury or death. I believe this may be related to a manufacturer defect involving fire risk, and I am submitting this report so NHTSA can investigate and take appropriate safety action to protect other drivers and passengers.

My rear back up camers stopped working. I took the car to my local Nissan dealer. I bought the extended warrenty for electronics so they replaced the camera to no avail. Then they replaced the a/v control unit which did not fix the probelm. At that time they advised me the rear wiper grommet leaked wated which caused the camera connector to corrode. They advised me to fix this I must replace the tailgate. There is no repair for this. I have seen posting on facebook and other places showing I am not the only person this is happening to. The dealer knew about it but when I questioned if it was a known issue thet played dumb I feel this is a safety issue as I have no rear camera now.

Door lock actuators on driver side doors failed after less than 4 years. Both were “burnt” out according to Nissan tech. Unable to lock, unlock doors. Safety concerns.

Vehicle safety defect report I am submitting this vehicle safety defect report regarding a serious and dangerous failure in a 2021 Nissan Rogue. The vehicle experienced complete electronic shutdowns while driving on the highway. During the most severe incidents, on December 19, 2025 and again on January 14, 2026, the vehicle activated the automatic emergency braking system without external cause, shifted into park, and shut down completely, leaving the vehicle immobilized in live interstate traffic during heavy rain. The dashboard displayed multiple simultaneous warnings (engine, battery, collision sensors). A repair facility later diagnosed corrosion in the transmission control module (tcm). The module was not replaced, only cleaned, and the failure recurred. This defect presents an extreme risk of collision, serious injury, or death. A vehicle that shuts down and electronically locks while in motion is unsafe to operate. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this electronic defect affecting critical safety and control systems. Videos, dashboard images, repair records, and documented evidence are attached. While driving on an interstate highway during heavy rain, my 2021 Nissan Rogue experienced a complete electronic shutdown. Multiple warning lights appeared simultaneously, the automatic emergency braking system activated without cause, and the vehicle suddenly shifted into park and shut off, leaving me immobilized in live traffic. This occurred on December 19, 2025, and the same failure happened again on January 14, 2026. The vehicle could not be moved and required towing. Nissan chime speaker unbelievably loud at car start up. The seat belt chimes and any chime that comes from the dash speaker is louder than normal. The speaker is “ inst panel speaker 24832-6ra0a. “ I have only had this car for one year this November. It happened for a few days during the first month or two having the car then it went back to normal, now it is doing it again and has lasted a month. Seems to happen only when it’s cold outside. Sometimes chime will start normal then grow increasingly loud.

2021 Nissan Rogue sv fwd 5n1at3baxmc6*****. Water leaking inside interior during rain storm in upper left drivers side corner of vehicle. Shifter delayed when shifting into park, neutral, reverse, or drive and shifter assembly indicator lights are out. Reference ntb21-069a. This is a known issue. A corrupted shifter assembly has caused this vehicle to display multiple warnings such as cvt warnings , shifter position warnings, front and rear crash sensors unavailable, and a multitude of other electrical system warnings. Communications with Nissan consumer affairs and Nissan service departments both of which state the vehicle is out of warranty and repairs for this known issue will be charged to customer despite evidence this is a manufacturing defect known to exist within this year make and model.

Buttons to scroll through dash menu sticking and not working due to spring issue. I noticed this was a common problem and make it difficult to go through the menu to check my tire pressure, manage my driver assistance such as emergency braking and blind spot, and any other systems related to setting up my driving experience.

Turned car on and it said engine malfunction reduced power. Turned car back off and on again, and the same message appeared. I drove the car home and let it sit. Turned it on later and message was gone.

Brand new Rogue at 400 miles(no previous owner) cvt malfunction due to incorrect grounding of transmission on mount. Resistance is not good and causes a draining battery… flickering lights, loss of power steering and slipping of gears. Mount is neither grounded and is experiencing a high pressurized leak. Dealership has noted leak at 20k and has considered services from the past at 46k. They note antifreeze/coolant but it is clearly transmission fluid. Wife is scared. Almost got in an accident with 2 year old baby and their parents due to jerking transmission on the road at 40k. Self serviced transmission fluid at 43k and have found very black burnt transmission fluid. No more road side assistance due to needed jump starts… Nissan claims it is the battery but this is 5th battery to be tested non-defective and new lifepo4 battery is saving lives but dealership refused to work on my car further until they see the oem battery even if I use the original they want a new battery which will ultimately leave me stranded or loss of control unless driving over 100mph in case of emergency? I have proof and images alongside a real forensic case. Dealership may be tampering with vehicle or vehicle did not pass inspection… electrical issues were prominent at first 1k but accused of “phantum burst” or leaving lights on… parasitic draw directly from alternator mount and transmission fluid at a high pressurized leak. Build quality looks like it was squeezed an good half inch to the right and components are overlapped when originally they weren’t. A/c lines poor seal. Vacuum leak in engine filter compartment resulting in undesirable dirt debris. Coolant becoming very brown more often… and components in the car not shutting off including stereo and settings in the dash. Casa has claimed to fix the “no-start condition” during a recall campaign but did not… requested 900 dollars for fluid change and new battery before looking at leak… flagstaff Nissan did miracles but did not note short.

System malfunction message shows up and front &rear sensors along with cruise control are turned off.

Back up camera, and other cameras near corners of the car are not displaying. Contacted Nissan about the issue said there is nothing they can do even though they have other recalls on cars with the same problems, just not my model. I also feel as if other components of the car need to be checked to ensure upmost safe driving and functioning. Have photos of car in reverse but no display of any camera.

Our 2021 Nissan Rogue stalls in traffic, park brake alert pops up when not on, radio doesn’t work sometimes, gas pump doesn’t click off when full so have to watch or it spills on car and ground, inside pillars between fr-windshield and front driver and passenger windows leak when I run it through the car wash, there are constant glitches with it that we’ve taken in and they say it doesn’t replicate for them so they can’t do anything even though they have complaints on all with the NHTSA. The vehicle just stalls out while driving?.

The display that controls the cameras has failed and is demanding a manual update but it was taken to a Nissan dealership where I was told it had to be completely replaced for $3500.

The ipdm stopped functioning correctly causing the a/c to stop working. This is a known issue that Nissan is negligently not addressing.

We have had a problem where our battery had died on us out of nowhere. We took it to autozone to check out or battery and they said it was low and we just had to drive it around so we can charge it. We did that didn’t work so we changed the battery. Well two months later our car won’t start anymore and our battery drained again. Now our car won’t start we had to jump start it again and even with that the battery wont hold its charge. We had a good friend who is a mechanic come in and help us and he did what he could to inspect the car and he was at a lost couldn’t tell us why the car won’t start.

Ac stopped working after winter passed even though ac button is on. Told no fluid leaks or other known issues. Was told ipdm needs replacement due to a/c inoperative with dtc b20c8-14 stored in the ipdm e/r. Have found several other people online having the same problem. Nissan stating problem is only part of a service bulletin and therefore not a recall. Requesting further review/investigation since it seems to be a common issue on this model and in my opinion should be a recall. I understand my opinion and facts of further investigation may not prove as such but without the complaints how would you know. Thank you.

Car was driving fine went into a store came out a couple hours later car wouldn’t start. After jump starting it check engine light is on and awd system failure reads across the dashboard. The 2 back doors no longer lock/unlock unless you do it manually. Drove car home it is now shifting funny like a hesitation or slipping feeling while driving. There’s a little over 15k miles on it.

I believe my cars computer is being hacked. Some things I’ve noticed are stereo issues the volume goes up and down or the music skips intermittently. Some times the music turns off. The collision symbol prompts on the dash. Acceleration issues. Antilock breaks don’t work, sometimes. Safety features are being turned off. My maps goes offline. My update for maps in nebraska isn’t listed but all the other states are listed. Awd button doesn’t work, sometimes. I am worried for my safety. I took it to Nissan and they updated the sonar component system. It helped some. Stereo issues are still present. Music is still turning off by itself. Volume is still going up and down and the radio not a cd is skipping intermittently. Nissan stated they have no testing to see if any malware has been installed. I contacted Nissan consumer affairs. They are chosing to do nothing at this time.

Vehicle would not start then it finally started and check engine light came on . Code p0914 was recorded as the issue. Shift position circuit faulty.

While driving one day in November 2024, the master warning light and the automatic emergency braking system off warning light came on. With 2 malfunction warnings: “not available system malfunction with the lane departure warning symbol” and “aeb malfunction”. If you try to use cruise control a loud siren is alerted since these 2 malfunctions are happening. Took it to the Nissan dealership where I bought it and was told there was a lane camera with an open circuit and to replace it when my windshield crack since it was close to $2,000.

My gear shifter in my 2021 Rogue was stuck in park. I was stuck in the middle of a 6 lane road. Car would not go into drive or reverse in heavy traffic or neutral. Had waited for police they arrived 15 minutes later car was able to engage drive . Then towed to Nissan of rockville center NY. I was informed that liquid was under gear shifer and the electronics were faulty. I had the same issue in 2022 and received 2,500 dollars from Nissan but they never replaced part. . . Today same issue but life threatening. Water is able to drip down the shifter mechanism and made the cvt light to turned on and the car was stuck in park, Nissan said water got under the shifter. I own the car and never spilled water or accidently spilled water into the gear shifter. I called Nissan consumer affairs case # [xxx] and complained and said " how is this not water proofed as if water can get in this area cause the car to be immobile. Stuck in park. I awaited a tow truck from aaa at [xxx] [xxx]. . . This complaint or defect is serious! I was so scared. But the police surrounded my car from traffic within 3 minutes. . On [xxx], long island. This ability for water to go through the shifter and cause this issue is an absolute manufacturers defect and needs to be address to this shifter design. It is the newer style shifter with only forward neutral and park button. This should be a sealed area as the cup holders are 2 inches away from the shifter. I think the issue started 2 years ago and corroded the electronics as nothing has spilt in this area ever! I don't even remember spilling anything in 2022. I asked Nissan if it could of come from below the car. ? they said no. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Nissan is aware of this issue as referenced in TSB 21-097b where the windshield and roof leak water into the vehicle causing damage to the interior of the vehicle, including soaking/staining the headliner and water running down the sides of the interior of the vehicle and potentially causing electrical and safety problems. They have been aware of this issue on 2021-2023 Rogues for several years, put out a technical service bulletin, but have not proactively fixed any of the vehicles. When this happened, my wife experience intermittent connectivity issues with the Rogue.

The contact owns a 2021 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that after receiving an oil change at an independent mechanic, the controls on the left side of the steering wheel used to enable the crash warning settings was depressed but failed to work as intended. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 14,304.

These warning lights always come up-daily. No matter if it is hot or cold out. I am worried that they will not work if/when I actually needed them to. I am scheduling an appointment with Nissan. Nothing has been looked at on it besides my normal oil change/check ups. I have a 7 month old and it scares me that I am not in a safe vehicle.

I have a 2021 Nissan Rogue and have had numerous problems with it since the purchase. My current problem is that the back hatch/trunk is leaking when it rains, water is coming through. The back hatch/trunk will also open and not stay open, it begins to automatically close unless you press the button so it will not close on you. The warning lights have also began coming on again stating that driving assistance is not available. I also lose power to the display screen on the inside and it goes dark. The Nissan place where I live is aware and I have an appointment on Tuesday of this month. I have asked them in the past about recalls on my vehicle and they state that my vehicle has no recalls, I have also checked the site and it states my VIN is not included in the recall even though I feel like I have had so many problems with this car. In the past, I have already had to have my alternator replaced and a new battery. This is my first experience owning a Nissan, in the past I had a Toyota and in the future I will go back to a Toyota. I will not own another Nissan, my experience has not been a good one with this vehicle.

My car only has 33,000 on it. It has had to jumped 3 x’s in 3 weeks and twice while driving the car lost power and once at trong mph on a highway with a child in the rear seat, it lost power, I was thankfully able to get over to the side of the road just missed being hit by an 18 wheeler. Nissan has refused to cover the diagnostic test and a new battery and has stated they are not “100% sure it is the battery. ” they are charging me close to $500. The diagnostic, battery and labor.

Unknown I fell victim to a wiretapping incident that is still under federal investigation that began in my vehicle on June 23rd, 2023. This concern is in regard to life safety and loss of control of the vehicle on or around the same time, due to radio transmission feedback beeping coming from the passenger side speaker, as well as what sounded like an emergency response unit radio. The noise would not stop until I pulled the plug on the battery of the car as well as the fuse panel to the head unit. While driving the vehicle in converse TX around August 1st, 2023, I noticed the speedometer locking at a higher than average speed for the area I was in, like it would go into cruise control automatically, without my consent. I then hit the brake to slow it down, but the speedometer locked again and would read what I believed to be 5mph over the speed limit, but I could hear the engine revving and feel myself speeding up. I parked the car and pulled the majority of the fuse panel after this event, barely used it, reset the firmware version on the head unit and do not have this issue today. I reported this to Nissan twice in person, once on the phone and twice in writing. Nissan refuses to look into it until I pay for them to plug up their equipment to determine what happened and that there is nothing wrong since there is not yet a recall leading to my event.

The contact owns a 2021 Nissan Rogue sport. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, she exited the vehicle, walked toward her home, and noticed the vehicle was running. The contact went back to turn the vehicle off, and while reaching into the vehicle and pressing the start to stop button, the vehicle reversed, rolled back, and ran her over. The vehicle continued to roll and crashed into a fence. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact sustained injuries, including a fractured rib, a fractured back, and a collapsed lung. Medical attention was provided at the hospital. There was no reported fire or airbag deployment. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an unknown local dealer, where it was diagnosed that there was a computer glitch. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 14,779.

While stopped at a stop sign I pressed the gas to go and my car began to shutter then out itself in park. I turned it off then on again as no indicators popped up but I could not drive. It would go only into neutral or park. Then, after a while my car refused to turn off. I will press the break then the start/stop button and it would shut off then turn right back on. Then, the oil life and engine light came on and on the screen it said there was a headlight system error or failure. We tried to jump the car and it still would not start. This was a car I had for 2 months, only 2 years old, and only 37,000 miles on it.

The car just shut down while it was on and I was in it. Luckily I was at a stop. This is the second time it has happened in 6 months. It would be scary if it happened if it happened on the freeway. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle.

I was driving on 85 south @10:15 am it was very busy traffic and all of a sudden the vehicle starts loosing power all kinds of lights came on the panel engine malfunction also was on the panel it was so scary. I was trying to get off the highway safely the steering wheel was hard to turn. I saw2 18 wheelers & other vehicles coming l really thought I was going to die.
