I am the owner of a Nissan Rogue subject to recall campaign r25d1, which addresses a manufacturing defect affecting engine bearings and/or engine components that may progressively fail over time, leading to engine damage and engine failure. I brought my vehicle to headquarter Nissan in columbus, GA (the same dealer that issued the recall notice) for diagnosis after experiencing engine problems. The dealer’s diagnostic findings document a complete engine failure consistent with the recall description, including: •egr valve failure (valve could be opened to 70 degrees with no change in engine performance, when anything over 20 degrees should cause the engine to stall) •engine overheating •blown head gasket •failed egr cooler •total coolant loss (vehicle arrived with no coolant; 2 gallons had to be added before fluid registered in the overflow) the dealer’s recommended repair is full replacement of the engine, turbo, catalytic converter, egr valve, and egr cooler, along with all gaskets and hardware. The estimate provided is $9,514. 72. Despite the failure pattern matching the recall description (progressive component failure leading to engine damage), the dealer is denying recall coverage by attributing the root cause to the egr cooler rather than the bearings or engine components named in the recall. This causation is also inconsistent with the diagnostic write-up itself, which describes the egr valve as the initiating failure that led to overheating and subsequent damage to the head gasket and cooler. I am filing this complaint because the dealer’s denial appears to be a reframing of a recall-eligible failure to shift repair costs onto the consumer. I am requesting NHTSA review of how recall r25d1 is being applied at the dealer level and whether failures like mine are being inappropriately excluded.
I owned this car for less than 2 years and it's already costing $700. 00 to have a egr valve failure. This seems to be a big problem with these SUV's and I just don't no how this is not covered under the warranty or a recall as this is clearly a defect. There are so many complaints about this issue. This is my 3rd Nissan and most likely my last!!! not happy at all with this outcome of $700. 00 repair!.
The contact owns a 2023 Nissan rouge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the egr cooler failed and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,200.
On 2/14/26 my car decelerated on the interstate. No warning lights came on. I parked the car and had it towed the next day to the dealership. Several days later they told me I needed a new engine, and then later told me that Nissan would not replace the engine but told them I need the egr cooling system replaced and that would resolve my problem. 3 weeks later I picked up my car ($3722) and immediately upon driving it off the lot the car started smoking. Once home, it decelerated again prompting another tow back to the dealership on the same day I picked it up. During that time, dashboard and engine lights came on. 3 days later I received a phone call from the dealership stating I need a new egr sensor which should have been done the first time but was not (by a less experienced mechanic), for free, and the part would be in tomorrow 3/12/26. He also stated that now the car is running extremely rough and knocking (which I told him has not been our experience at all and I did not know what he was talking about). He then went on to say it needs motor mounts now. That was 2 weeks ago. Since then I have called multiple times to get status updates on my car and no one will return my call. My car has now been there for 40 days as of today. I have been given a 120,000 mile warranty extension on my engine per Nissan, but Nissan refuses to fix it and my car is not listed as part of the new recall, which I do not understand at all. Nissan needs to replace my engine as first diagnosed but reneged on.
I purchased this vehicle as a Nissan certified pre-owned in July 2024 and also purchased an extended warranty. In June 2025, I received notice of the kr engine bearing recall affecting this vehicle. I brought the vehicle to Nissan dealerships three separate times regarding this recall and related concerns, but no repair was performed and I was told to wait because a remedy was not yet available. On January 29th, while driving, the vehicle began shaking severely and white smoke began coming from the tailpipe. There were no warning lights. The vehicle became undrivable and had to be towed to a Nissan dealership. The dealership diagnosed the failure as a failed egr cooler that allowed coolant into the engine, which they state destroyed the engine and requires a full engine replacement. The dealership is now claiming this is not covered under warranty, recall, or extended coverage. However, the kr engine bearing recall specifically addresses internal engine defects that can lead to overheating, coolant system damage, and engine failure. The egr cooler failure appears to be secondary damage caused by the known engine defect described in the recall. I had already presented the vehicle multiple times to Nissan for this issue after the recall was announced, and no repair was made. I am now being told I must pay for a full engine replacement on a vehicle with an active engine recall and extended engine warranty coverage, despite having sought service multiple times before the catastrophic failure occurred. I believe this is a direct result of Nissan failing to properly address a known engine defect covered by recall, and I am concerned this represents a broader safety issue for other owners whose engines may fail before Nissan implements a remedy.
Engine malfunction power reduce service now wed Aug 20. My 2023 Rogue was at the dealership debating that thye can fix the recall because there is no remedy for the inspection for the recall. My truck stayed at the shop until October. This passed Friday October 31 while driving and picking up donations I began to get on the freeway and the same message happened. I couldn't go over 25mph the dealership was 28 minutes away. My safety was a risk it was the on ramp of the freeway and it was all freeway to get to the dealership. The food donations I picled up were at risk of not be able. To be served to shelter residents. I receibed and email stating that the fuel injectors and egr valve need to replace immediately totatling almost 5,000 after just paying $1700 last month. This is the second time since August with this message but the check engine light has been going on and off with alerts in my car amd Nissan app for over 6 months.
The first time I was on the I expressway the car started to loose power I had the pedal to the floor and it wouldn't go. Took it to the dealer and they kept it for a week they changed the turbo and another recall part. Then it drove okay for maybe a month and started right back again loosing power idling I took it to the nissian they said its a recall on the engine bearings and there wasn't nothing that could be done. The transmission is constantly acting like its going out cause it takes a minute to go into the next gear. Im a traveling nurse I lost my contract due to not having a reliable vehicle it wouldnt start some days nissian checked the battery said it was good they couldnt figure out rhat issue. I bought a new battery still the same issue then I was driving down a busy street, I started smelling gas or a muffler smell the check engine light came on and then I took it to nissian. Nissian said the parts for the engine bearing is in but we cant fiix the recall until the check engine light is off. They did a diagnostics test and said its the egr valve and control system. They want me to pay over 3000 dollars and refuse to fix it. Ive had the car for 9 months and even though the issue started before my warranty was up they refuse to fix it. Ive attached the first invoice and its at nissian right now I dont have the invoice yet.
The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Rogue. The vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 25v437000 (engine and engine cooling). The contact stated that there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine. Once the accelerator pedal was depressed, the abnormal sound was heard for a short while before the noise ceased. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that while driving at a slower speed, the abnormal sound was more frequent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. However, no cause for the failure was found. The dealer informed the contact that the sound was normal for the size of the engine. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, the vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the exhaust gas recirculation (egr) valve had failed. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 7,000.
The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving at 35 mph, the vehicle independently decelerated. The contact stated that there was traffic behind her and the vehicle decelerated down to 10 mph. The contact stated that drivers were honking their horns at her to speed up. The check engine and the do not drive warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed egr module function system and the egr module function system needed to be replaced and reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 5169.
