My car was sitting in a parking lot facing the south. It was over 100 degrees that day. I had a front window shade in the front window, and both front windows were down about 2 inches. I went to my car to grab something around 1:30pm and all was fine. When I cam back around 2:45 pm, the back window was shattered, with small pieces of glass laying on the ground. I called the local Nissan dealer, and they told me to bring it in so they could look at it. I taped it up and drove it to the dealer. They looked it over and could see that the glass had blown out. The mechanic that looked it over, said that based on the glass pressing out and not inward (rock or something hitting it, makes the glass press inward). The dealership put in a warranty claim on Friday and finally found out it was approved on Tuesday. The mechanic ordered the glass to be shipped overnight on Friday. 10 days later I hadn't heard anything from them, so I called them, and they didnt have the glass yet, and didnt know why. So they called Nissan to figure why, and were told, they have the glass on hand, but not enough to ship any out yet. So its been 12 days and I still cant drive my car.
The short inserts in the front grille of my 2026 Nissan Rogue sv have noticeable free movement at their attachment points. All short inserts can move forward/backward, laterally, and angularly. The longer grille inserts do not exhibit the same condition. I reported this condition to authorized Nissan dealers because of concern about the long-term integrity and retention of these components when subjected to aerodynamic loads and high-frequency vibration during normal vehicle operation. The condition was reproduced and documented by authorized Nissan dealers. At Nissan's direction, a dealer recorded the movement and submitted it for warranty review. Nissan subsequently authorized replacement of the complete front grille under the new-vehicle warranty. The grille was replaced, but the replacement immediately exhibited essentially the same movement. I continued reporting the condition to Nissan consumer affairs. Nissan later arranged an evaluation involving regional/technical personnel and subsequently informed me that the movement was a “characteristic of the vehicle” and that no further corrective action would be taken. I have personally inspected other comparable 2026 Nissan Rogue vehicles and found that some do not exhibit this movement in the short grille inserts. Nissan has not provided an engineering specification, tolerance, or measurement establishing acceptable movement. My safety concern is the long-term integrity and retention of the short inserts and their attachment points under repeated aerodynamic loading and high-frequency vibration. No insert has detached, and I am not asserting that detachment will occur. I am requesting that NHTSA evaluate this condition, including the movement and retention of the short grille inserts, and physically inspect my vehicle or a comparable vehicle if appropriate. My vehicle is available for inspection, and I have documentation and videos showing the condition before and after replacement.
While driving on I-10 I drove threw a small dust devil doing 78 mph and the drivers side trim next to the window flew off. There were other vehicles behind me and beside me. I did notice the cars behind me slowed down. There was no waring before hand. No sound, no movement, nothing. The vehicle was just under 6,000 miles. I took it to las cruces Nissan. Ordered the part. The parts guy informed me this has happened to other drivers in the past and the part is on back order.
