I am submitting a complaint regarding a serious water intrusion issue with my 2023 Nissan Rogue. My vehicle developed a severe water leak that allowed water to enter both sides of the vehicle. The amount of water intrusion is significant and has caused concern about possible hidden damage, including mold growth, mildew, and damage to electrical components. I brought my vehicle to hallmark Nissan in birmingham, alabama for evaluation. The dealership informed me that this is a known issue and that Nissan has a technical service bulletin, ntb21-097b, addressing water leaks at the top front corners of the windshield on certain 2021–2023 Nissan Rogue vehicles. My vehicle was only two days outside of the warranty period when I brought it in for this problem. Even though Nissan has identified this issue through a technical service bulletin, I was advised that I would be responsible for approximately $684 in repair costs. I believe this is unacceptable for a relatively new vehicle with a known defect. A vehicle should not allow water to leak into the passenger compartment due to a known issue shortly after the warranty expires. This water intrusion creates potential safety concerns, including: mold and mildew growth that could affect occupants’ health. Corrosion or failure of electrical wiring, connectors, sensors, and other vehicle systems. Potential malfunction of safety-related components due to water damage. Additional costly damage that may not become apparent until later. The existence of technical service bulletin ntb21-097b demonstrates that Nissan is aware of this condition, yet customers are still being required to pay for repairs. I believe this issue should be investigated as a potential safety defect rather than treated as a normal repair expense. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this water intrusion issue affecting Nissan Rogue vehicles and determine whether Nissan should provide a safety remedy or recall for affected owners.
The left headliner above the small rear window is wet/stained after heavy rain or a car wash. I have had this issue previously with the front left headliner and the clips were replaced. The same issue is occurring with the rear left headliner now. The risk of mold exposure, water damage, etc. Is high.

My car was sitting in a parking lot facing the south. It was over 100 degrees that day. I had a front window shade in the front window, and both front windows were down about 2 inches. I went to my car to grab something around 1:30pm and all was fine. When I cam back around 2:45 pm, the back window was shattered, with small pieces of glass laying on the ground. I called the local Nissan dealer, and they told me to bring it in so they could look at it. I taped it up and drove it to the dealer. They looked it over and could see that the glass had blown out. The mechanic that looked it over, said that based on the glass pressing out and not inward (rock or something hitting it, makes the glass press inward). The dealership put in a warranty claim on Friday and finally found out it was approved on Tuesday. The mechanic ordered the glass to be shipped overnight on Friday. 10 days later I hadn't heard anything from them, so I called them, and they didnt have the glass yet, and didnt know why. So they called Nissan to figure why, and were told, they have the glass on hand, but not enough to ship any out yet. So its been 12 days and I still cant drive my car.
I have two major safety concerns for my 2021 Nissan Rogue. 1) failed rear door actuators on both the driver and passenger side of vehicle: I own a 2021 Nissan Rogue with approximately 68,000 miles. The rear driver and passenger side door lock actuator failed, causing the rear doors to no longer lock or unlock electronically using either the key fob or the interior power door lock switch. The door must now be operated manually from the inside, no one can freely open the doors from the outside. I have to crawl in the backseat to open the doors. This creates a safety concern because, in an emergency, a rear passenger may not be able to quickly exit the vehicle if the door cannot be unlocked electronically. This failure affects a rear passenger door and could delay a child's or other passenger's ability to exit the vehicle quickly in an emergency if the electronic lock cannot be operated. It also creates a vehicle security concern because the door does not lock properly. I have found multiple reports from other 2021 Nissan Rogue owners describing the same rear door lock actuator failure at similar mileage. This appears to be more than an isolated incident. The vehicle has not been involved in an accident, and the failure occurred during normal use. 2) failed egr valve: the egr cooler has failed internally and is allowing engine coolant into the combustion chambers. The vehicle experienced a sudden engine malfunction related to an egr (exhaust gas recirculation) system failure. The diagnostic trouble code was p0401 –and was diagnosed with an egr cooler failure causing coolant to leak into the combustion chambers. While driving, the vehicle displayed “engine malfunction-power reduced-service now. ” the car went into reduced power mode, significantly limiting acceleration and normal vehicle operation, creating dangerous driving conditions. A sudden reduction in engine power on a highway or in traffic presents a significant safety hazard. Please investigate a recall.
While driving on the highway, the driver’s side windshield trim detached from the vehicle and became a potential road hazard that could have struck a vehicle traveling behind me. When I brought the vehicle to the dealership for inspection, I was informed that they have seen similar incidents involving this trim piece detaching from multiple vehicles.

While driving on I-10 I drove threw a small dust devil doing 78 mph and the drivers side trim next to the window flew off. There were other vehicles behind me and beside me. I did notice the cars behind me slowed down. There was no waring before hand. No sound, no movement, nothing. The vehicle was just under 6,000 miles. I took it to las cruces Nissan. Ordered the part. The parts guy informed me this has happened to other drivers in the past and the part is on back order.
Rear windshield shattered while driving to work on the highway. There is currently a class-action lawsuit against Nissan for this exact problem.
The door lock actuator no longer reliably locks or unlocks the driver's door.

Our front and backup camera do not work. We took it to a Nissan dealer on April 20, 2026, and was advised that the avm control unit has to be replaced. They found and recommended: "all system scan found avm missing from dtc sheet. Performed can diag found avm offline. Rec replace avm control unit. " research shows that there is a defect in the rear wiper grommet or seal allowing water to enter the liftgate, contributing to the overall failure of the rear hatch components - water corroded the rear backup camera unit.
Vehicle: 2017 Nissan Rogue VIN: [xxx] issue: hood latch / safety latch failure description of the problem: while opening the fuel door, I accidentally pulled the interior hood?release lever. The primary hood latch released, but the hood remained mostly closed. I did not realize the hood was unlatched. When I began driving, the hood suddenly flew open. This indicates that the secondary safety latch failed to engage and hold the hood down, which is its intended safety function. . A failure of the secondary hood latches is a serious safety hazard, and the hood opening while driving created an immediate visibility obstruction and risk of a crash. What happened as a result: the hood flew open while the vehicle was in motion, blocking forward visibility. I was able to stop safely, but this could have caused a collision. Frequency: this is the first occurrence, but the latch mechanism may be sticking. Why this is a safety concern: even if the primary latch is released, the secondary safety latch is specifically designed to prevent the hood from opening while driving. Its failure represents a critical safety defect. Request: please document this incident and evaluate whether similar failures are occurring on 2017 Nissan Rogue vehicles. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
My vehicle was parked in my driveway. I left my property in another vehicle and upon returning, my rear windshield was shattered. If this had happened while operating the vehicle, there would have been a high risk of injury to myself, other occupants, or other vehicles on the road. This has not yet been confirmed by Nissan, but there have been other reports and a lawsuit filed by other owners. This incident has not been inspected, as windshield replacement is fully covered by my state, it was not caused by collision or vandalism, and I need to get it repaired quickly in order to commute to work. There were no warning notifications prior to the failure.
The rear glass got shattered unexpectedly without any impact.
A water intrusion issue developed originating from the roof/moonroof area of the vehicle. The problem was initially diagnosed by an authorized dealership as a failure in the moonroof drain system, and the drain tubes were replaced. The repair was completed and marked as resolved. However, the leak continued after the repair. Upon further inspection, the dealership identified the source of the leak as the moonroof rubber seal and recommended replacement of the seal assembly. Water intrusion is entering the headliner and traveling into the upper a-pillar area. This area contains curtain airbag components and associated electrical systems. The presence of moisture in this location raises concern about potential impact to airbag functionality and overall vehicle safety. There were no warning lights or system messages prior to or during the occurrence of this issue. The failure presents as visible water intrusion, including wet headliner material and moisture accumulation near the a-pillar. The issue has been reproduced and confirmed by an authorized dealership. The initial repair attempt did not resolve the problem, and the condition remains present. The affected components (drain system and seal area) are available for inspection upon request.
My rear view window shattered with no impact or anything to cause it. I was backing out of my garage rear end first, and it was a loud bam!.
Upon entering drivers side front door and closing door the rear hatchback window glass shattered falling inside and outside on driveway.
Rear window spontaneous shattered. While parked at work I have called and spoke to dealership who has stated this isnt thw first time somone has called about window but they do not have a warranty or recall available for windows. My car now has to sit in the weather. (snowing) with a bag over broken window for 3 days until it can be fixed. Then will need to go in for a detailing because glass in in my kids carseat, and all over the car from it breaking. Will cost me 450$ to replace window to clean all the glass out of my car im estimated my local retailer 250$.

While driving under normal conditions, I heard a sudden loud pop and the rear windshield completely shattered without any collision, debris impact, or external force. The glass failure appeared spontaneous. I have two young children and shattered glass entered the cabin, creating a serious safety hazard. I have since learned that there are multiple consumer reports of spontaneous rear hatch or rear windshield shattering in 2021–2025 Nissan Rogues. This appears to be a recurring safety defect.
Both front door actuators have failed. Can not open the front passenger side door at all and the front driver side door will only open from the inside. My passenger had to exit the vehicle through the front passenger side window when the door malfunctioned in January. Then about 2 weeks later we could no longer open the front driver's side door from the outside. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. My front seat passenger was trapped in the car. Luckily the window was able to roll down and my passenger was limber enough to crawl out through the window.

I am submitting this complaint regarding a persistent water intrusion defect in my 2022 Nissan Rogue platinum that Nissan has not formally addressed through a recall, despite published technical service bulletins acknowledging the issue. During periods of heavy rain and when using automated car washes, water enters the cabin from the sunroof area on both the passenger and driver sides. I discovered this only after observing blue soap residue running down the interior side panels, and upon further inspection have since noticed signs of mold growth inside the vehicle within the past month. After researching this problem, I learned that this issue is well documented and widespread among 2021–2023 Nissan Rogue vehicles. Nissan has issued multiple technical service bulletins, including TSB bt21-020b, identifying defective sunroof drain clips and revised repairs. However, Nissan has not issued a recall or formal owner notification, despite the clear pattern of failure reported online across consumer forums, reddit, and Nissan owner communities with hundreds, if not thousands, of similar complaints. I was forced to seek repair through a local Nissan dealership, which charged me $289. 24 for the repair. This defect is not the result of wear and tear or misuse, but of an inherently defective design component that allows water intrusion into sealed vehicle compartments. This defect creates health risks from mold exposure, risks damage to interior components and electronics, and reduces vehicle resale value. I believe Nissan should have issued a safety recall rather than shifting financial responsibility to owners for correcting a known manufacturing defect. Continued water intrusion and mold formation represent a health and safety concern that warrants NHTSA review. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this matter and require Nissan to issue a recall or provide reimbursement coverage to affected owners. Thank you for your consideration.

I got in the car and before even starting the car the window on the hatch exploded. It is shattered and I am glad my child was not in the back seat.
The back windshield exploded. Nothing hit the windshield and there was no warning of it occuring.
I was driving down the road when I heard a loud popping noise. When I got out to check I noticed my sunroof/moonroof was shattered. When traveling down the road there were no cars in front of me, no construction sites, and no over passes. The incident happened randomly. There were no problems with the sunroof prior to this. There was no impact.
Rear trunk - under bumper hands free feature closes on head and/or body while loading or unloading items. Head several times and body once while bent into trunk space. Called Nissan corporate office to report and told to call dealer and have service check sensor. Appointment Saturday 11/22/2025 at Nissan of torrance. Results = unable to disable. Part 988 tested ok at this time. Safety hazard that can cause painful/harm to body of myself/child/pets/others and creates fear/anxiety when it closes on to head and/or body.
1) the passenger door on the drivers side will not open and the drivers side window also is faulty. 2) it is a safety hazard to have car doors that won't open, as it can prevent emergency exit, and it can also create a danger to other road users. If a door is stuck closed during a crash, it could prevent a person from getting out, which is particularly dangerous if the car catches fire. A faulty car window regulator is a safety hazard, especially in florida, because it can prevent you from opening the window in an emergency, compromise security by not closing properly, and expose the interior to the elements. A faulty regulator can lead to a window being stuck, falling into the door, or not closing completely, all of which create potential risks 3) the dealer has confirmed this issue with this make and model of vehicle and have fixed the same issues when they were under warranty but refuse to handle said issue now that the warranty being up. It is a three year old car I bought new 4)this issue has been inspected and has been known by the dealer service department of mike erdman Nissan. 5) the issue has happened with other window regulators and doors that would not open on the vehicle in question. 4) the vehicle had issues with.
I noticed that my car was often unlocked after I knew for a fact that I locked it. I also had a problem with the right passenger door not unlocking even when the unlock button was pushed. I would often have to physically unlock that door on its own. After this happened for about a month, the car now opens even if I have locked it, with some of the doors causing the alarm to sound, even the door easily opened. I am concerned about safety especially when going out late at night or leaving my car parked in public lots. The problem was confirmed by the dealer when I went in for service. They inspected it and told me the door lock actuators on the back doors are bad. After looking this up, I see that there is a class action suit pending for this issue. There were no warnings prior to this happening.
Hatch hydraulic lift failed and trunk slammed on me. I also believe the hood latch might be a safety concern due to the hood wiggling like it doesn’t want to stay shut and shaking when on highway.

I was in a head on collision going 55-60mph with no airbags deployed. Car started a dripping fire. I have seatbelt lacerations starting from collarbone/neck area cross my chest, breast and right side ribs including deep bruising on lower abdomen and pelvic area. Police would not let me in my car bc air bags could potentially go off at any time but car made it to the tow-yard still without airbags going off. No warning or recalls sent to me since I bought the car in may of 2022.
On oct 15th, 2025 in the afternoon my vehicle was parked at my work and back hatch windshield complete shattered. Many other vehicles parked in the same parking lot. No signs of any foul play. Called state farm insurance and they called the auto glass repair shop to file a claim and have fixed. This could have been tragic if would have been driving possibly. Seems many other owners of Nissan rouge other year/model are having the same issue. Dealer is being contacted as well. The vehicle was bought brand new approx. 3 months ago in July 2025. No warning of any thing wrong with hatch/windshield. Vehicle may be looked at for inspection but it is to be fixed oct 16th 2025. Pictures were taken and documented.
