Nissan Rogue owners have reported 126 problems related to seat belt (under the seat belt category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Rogue based on all problems reported for the Rogue.
The driver seatbelt latchplate binds and continually cinches tighter during normal driving. The issue occurs where the seatbelt webbing passes through the latchplate slot where the shoulder belt transitions to the lap belt. There appears to be insufficient clearance in the latchplate slot, allowing the webbing to slide easily in the tightening direction but not easily in the loosening direction. As a result, the belt continually tightens and specifically pulls the lap portion tighter, while slack cannot be easily fed back through the latchplate without excessive force. This creates a driver distraction because the belt must be forcibly loosened while driving to relieve pressure on the lap. When slack is created to restore comfort, the slack must be maintained because the belt will not easily slide back through the latchplate. This creates a safety trade-off between driving distraction from repeatedly loosening the belt or maintaining excess slack in the restraint system. Two Nissan dealerships inspected the vehicle and declined repair, stating the system is operating within specification.

The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving on highway I-10 at 65 mph, there was an extremely loud popping sound coming from the vehicle. The contact immediately pulled over, assuming there was a failure with the tire. Upon further investigation with her parents, it was determined that the tires were intact, and the abnormal sound came from the side air bag deploying unintendedly. Additionally, the seat belt seized. The vehicle was towed to the local Nissan dealer, where it was diagnosed with an erroneous rollover detection by the crash sensor, which triggered the deployment of the side air bags. The crash sensor detected a rollover, causing the side airbag to deploy. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and filed a case, and informed the contact that a response would be provided later. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.

Back passenger seatbelt warning will not display on dash if seatbelts are unbuckled while car is driving. No sounds or notice. Happens sporadically. Dangerous when kids are playing musical chairs while driver is unaware. Dangerous. Noticed first year ago dealership was unable to replicate. Happened again dealership changed the seatbelt. Now occurring again.
It started when I purchased it in February 2025 mileage was 99200 I noticed the seatbelt warning signs didn’t ding if I didn’t have my seatbelt on. And the sunroof not only was leaking but it is coming apart where it is held in place I’m afraid it will suddenly come down and strike me without notice while driving. Theee days ago I noticed the airbag light came on while I had the driver assist engaged so I stopped and turned the driver assistance light on and then off which caused the airbag light to turn off . But today with 1100 miles on the vehicle I was driving and the light. Came on as I was driving again. I tried turning off the drivers assistance button but the light stays on!!! I’m concerned about the safety while driving with the airbag light, the seatbelt not signaling when the seatbelt is not on it ding to remind me that someone doesn’t have their seat belt on. At lastly , I believe that I am going to be injured by the sunroof motor fulling down while I am driving causing a car wreck and or injuring me or a passenger. The OCS system in the 2015 model needs to be fixed before serious injury occurs.
On 03/06/2025 my car got into an accident with another vehicle the whole pumper was damaged yet the air bags didn’t go off, and my child in the back seat with his booster, that the seat belt was supposed to hold the seat, the whole booster seat came off.

After an oil change at a certified Nissan dealership, the left rear seat belt sensor was indicating on the dash board that someone was sitting in there and was strapped, so the light had a green check, but there was no one in that seat plus the seat belt was not even strapped. The next day, the front passenger seat belt also went awry. With no one in the seat, the seat belt sensor started beeping which means it believed someone was in that seat unstrapped, but again, no one was in it. I have only ownes the car for 4 months, the car is clean and there is no debris in the seat belt latch system. There is definitely something wrong with the seatbelt sensors.
When driving the seatbelt light indicator comes on, has been doing this for sometime and usually only happens when there is no passenger. When the passenger seatbelt is clicked the light (seatbelt indicator) goes off.
Rear center and right seat belts would not latch. Also, dashboard rear seatbelt monitor lights were incorrect.
I took ownership of this vehicle on December 11, 2024. Here are some of the problems I've encountered with this 2025 Nissan Rogue sl model: (1)blind spot, lane departure has been malfunctioning as of 12-11-2024. (2)the seat belt symbol started malfunctioning a few days later. The red seat belt sign on the dashboard remains on for an extended period. (3)the am/ fm radio was working for a short time then off and on. Whenever the am/fm radio goes out, sirius xm radio remain strong. I brought the SUV back to the leasing company twice after which they programmed and reset the radio and the safety features. It seemed to work for a day. I called the leasing company and they said that I should take the Rogue to one of Nissan's service departments for a diagnostic workup. I made an appointment with the service dept. Where the technician spent a good amount of time going over the vehicle. we then took a test drive where he explained how the system worked. The tech said that this vehicle’s blind spot kicks in after it reaches 30 miles according to the training video. He went on t say, in addition you have to press the blue blind spot logo to activate the system. I took the vehicle to the Nissan service. since driving this Nissan Rogue another problem occurred that complicates all of the other issues above. That is this dangerous rear lift gate. Let me be clear, I’m a disabled veteran and all of these safety components are extremely important to my family. I can’t afford to worry or be hit again by this lift gate. This lift gate has hit me twice which organizing my belongs in this new SUV. Whenever your working near the rear bumper the rear lift gate is likely to come down! I’m back from the holidays and this vehicle is going back to the Nissan service dept again. Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that after entering the vehicle and attempting to buckle the seat belt, the buckle detached from the floor anchor. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer who reattached the buckle to the floor anchor. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 133,043.
The seat belt connection is located so far down in the seat cushion that it is almost impossible to fasten, and it is especially difficult if you are trying to fasten in a child seat. The design is a safety problem. The seat belts I am referring to are on the back seat.
I received notice late April from Nissan about this recall. I promptly scheduled an appointment to bring my vehicle in for repair. I was told parts were back ordered and would arrive early June. I have contacted the dealership (vision Nissan of greece, NY) and Nissan hq to inquire and was told parts were on back order. I asked when parts would be available and was given no time estimate. I have to drive my vehicle from new york state to texas for a move (over 2,000 miles) starting June 25 and I have serious concerns for my and my family's safety in the vehicle due to the recall. I would appreciate any assistance possible in getting this resolved. Thank you.
Passenger seat belt is hard to latch and hard to unlatch. Feels like something is stuck.

Began a dollar rental car rental on April 15th through April 25th. Around April 25th, I attempted to extend the rental. Error message on dollar site said ". . . The location requires you to return the car to the renting location or to any corporately owned location on the agree to drop off date for technical inspection. " upon searching the VIN - the car was under active recall, and the recall had not been remedied. I only found out because of the online web search on the NHTSA site. It appears the recall was issued Feb 28th, 2024, and then car was rented out prior to repairs.
I was traveling east bound and trash collection truck was parked on the shoulder facing east. I could not see the truck because of the position of the sun, and when I did see the parked trash truck, I swerved to miss it but struck the left rear of the parked trash truck with the right front of my vehicle going 35mph. Air bags did not deploy nor did the seat belt lock. I was tranferred to the hospital and sustained 4 broken ribs and an abrasion on my right elbow. Police department and ems did see that air bags did not deploy. Police report shows code for the air bag and seat belt malfunctions. No warning messages etc of any kind showed up.
The icon light with the picture of person in car seat with airbag is constantly flashing.

August 2022 passenger vehicle seat belt system light came on, concern was if the seat belt would work when occupied. Vehicle was taken to baytown Nissan for passenger seat belt light malfunction, was advised to replace the occupant control unit and occupant pressure sensor with callibration 3. 0. The light eventually corrected itself. August 2023 the passenger airbag light stayed on and says the airbag is turned off when someone is seated in the vehicle, concern is occupant safety. Took vehicle to baytown Nissan for diagnostic, code is b00a0 module malfunction, again advised to replace OCS control and callibrate. I have seen previous recalls on air bag malfunctions and would like to know why this is not a safety recall. This is my fourth Nissan vehicle and never had this problem and the other vehicles were older.

Front passenger seatbelt locked in retract. Unable to pull the belt out of retraction for use.
I had my vehicle serviced and was informed the front passenger seat belt displays on the dash that there is a problem with the seat belt. The display shows a (ball/circle) figure on the seat belt symbol.
The shoulder strap cuts across my neck. While I'm driving I have to take one hand off the steering wheel to push it down, only to have it slide right back up across my neck. Every time I hit a bump or pot hole, the strap cuts into my neck. There will be a serious injury if I'm in an accident. Also, the suspension is so bad on this car that I feel every bump, and pot hole, and my head keeps hitting the headset. I was told the headset cannot be adjusted. My passenger has long legs. The passenger seat will not go back any further so he sits with legs bent in cramped position. The visor when pulled down is right in my eyes. If I brake suddenly and my head goes forward, it hits my eyes. I will be seriously injured if in a car accident. On turns, especially if there's even a little water, the back wheels of this car skid.
The contact owns a 2019 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that the seat belt alarm for the front driver’s and front passenger’s side seat belts failed to notify the driver whenever the seats were occupied but the seat belts were not buckled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that it was normal. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and suggested that the vehicle be taken to another dealer to be diagnosed. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
The seat belt doesn't always lock when pulled all the way as it should.

I purchased this vehicle new and started having issues with it at 3,000 miles. The screen freezes or just stops working, the hvac system blows out 2 totally different temps even though it's "synced" on the same temp. My blind spot warning is malfunctioning, the rear camera has stopped working and the rear tailgate fills with water, I was told I would need a whole new tailgate to fix that, I supposedly had the retractors replaced in my seatbelts and those still do not retract. The car has slammed on the brakes on the highway for no reason causing a burn on my neck, supposedly that recall was performed but I dont think it was. I have also caught gandrud Nissan in an act of fraud once already regarding my vehicle being there for an entire week and them trying to say it was never there, and I believe they never performed these recalls or fixes, otherwise my seatbelts should work and my cameras would be working. This vehicle has given me nothing but issues since I bought it. I have video and paperwork to back this all up. When I asked to speak with the owner of gandrud Nissan who has done all the work on my vehicle while under warranty, he refuses to call me back. I would like an investigation done to see if these parts have been replaced and the recall work was actually performed, I do not want Nissan notified until after another party has checked to see if the work was done.

Srs air bag light was on, called dealer, light stayed on, cvt transmission has issues, electrical problems while driving, car will decelerate and stop without warning. My safety is at risk everyday, the car can stop at anytime without warning, airbag deployed. The dealership has not found any problems that they are willing to be accountable for. The vehicle has not been inspected before or after accident. Check engine light was on, transmission was replaced twice at my own expense. Srs light was on before accident.

On September 18, 2022 our front passenger seatbelt stopped working. Nothing happened to cause it to break, but it locked up and is unable to be used. The earliest I could get an appointment to have it looked at was September 28, 2022. I brought it in that day and was told that the part was being ordered and would arrive within 2-3 days. A week later, after still not hearing from Nissan, I called and was told that the part had been shipped but that there was no delivery information. Another week went by and this time when I called I was told the part was on backorder. I've spoken with Nissan's consumer affairs and was told that this would be escalated but it still hasn't been fixed. A broken seatbelt puts anyone in that seat at risk.
