Was driving with children in the car on the highway home from work, and car shut off and stalled. Losing all power, and making it hard to steer off the road. Took it to a local car shop, they had told me there was a recall regarding this issue. And call Nissan consumer affairs and they had told me there were no open claims .
In the past 6 months, I have experience the car shutting down when the car is idle, at a stop, or during movement a low speeds such as making left or right turn. I have had different mechanics looked at this issue, but neither one was able to pin point the issue. They have reset the 'service engine' light so many times, but this issue keeps returning. Researching this issue on the internet, I found a recall on Nissan Sentra that seem to have the same experience as I have been experiencing (01v357 and 03v455). I called Nissan for details on this issue and they explained that my VIN number was not in the list of recall vehicles. I filed a case with Nissan (case# 11305573) however, I would like to bring this issue to your attention since it might cause injuries to others when the engine shuts off without warning. I believe my vehicles with similar VIN should also be checked for faulty ecu and/or wire sensor.
On June 24,2004 I had a crankshaft position sensor and emc foam removal recalls done on my 2001 Nissan Sentra. My vehicle has totally shut down with out any noise or warning while driving at least 4 times since December 2004. There were no accidents or injuries involved. I had taken my Sentra to a Nissan dealer for a diagnostic check on Jan. 31,2005 and they told me that the electronic control module did not show any codes and that it was a loose battery cable so they replaced it. Less than 24 hours later the vehicle shut down again while driving and was taken back to the dealer ASAP. The service rep then told me he put his best technician to work on my vehicle and he found the crankshaft possition sensor was bad and it was replaced, but when I question the rep about the emc codes again he told me that he did not know what the problem was because my Sentra was the first vehicle to do this with a recalled sensor. I am very concerned about the emc and this recalled sensor because this is a very serious safety issue. Nothing was done by the Nissan dealer to assure me that my vehicle will not do this again.
Hello, I own a 2001 Nissan Sentra. I've had the car for about 3. 5 years and during that time it's had at least 4-5 recalls. Most recently I took it in for the engine control module case holder recall in early March. This recall was to fix a problem that could result in the engine shutting off while driving. About two months later, I was on the road sitting at a red light, and all of the sudden the engine shut off. I though that maybe I had it in gear and I just released the clutch on accident, but it happened two more times on that trip. Now I constanstly have the engine shutting down on me while driving or when sitting in idle. It has happened during turns in which it made it very very difficult to steer as the power steering is cut off. I did take the car in for inspection and they told me that it was a bad air flow meter. I declined to have it fixed as I thought that it should be covered under warranty. I even wrote a letter to Nissan consumer affairs, and requested they fix my vehicle. However they declined.
