Vehicle Speed Control Problems of Nissan Sentra - part 2

Concern: this is the second time the engine does not shut off. All warning lights go off, unsteady steering wheel and odometer/odograph failed. This is not just a malfunction issue it is a severe safety concern. Back in January of 2023 it happen for the first time and was told control unit ipdm, engine room needed to be replaced and it was. But once again while driving the steering wheel went unsteady, all warning lights went off, odometer/odograph failed while on the road. This is an extremely safety concern. I bought the car brand new and as of now it has not been in any car accidents.

Over the last year my 2015 Nissan Sentra has been having problems of judder (shake and shudder), hesitation on acceleration, lack of power and rpm flare. It happens when I am driving highway speed and when going uphill on the highway as well. I went to firestone to get a diagnostic check and came out with the code of p17f4. I was surprised given that no check engine light has turned on. I will be going to the Nissan dealership and asking them what steps can happen. This is the second Nissan vehicle (the second vehicle is a Nissan rogue) that has had a transmission problem.

I've gone to the Nissan center in antioch to have the transmission fixed due to a failure on the freeway. Cars rpms went up and my foot was pressed down on the accelerator. The center said they fixed it and I shouldn't have issues. 4 years later I'm starting to have the same issues.

1. My brakes locked up on my and the warning light came on saying I hit something 2. The only windows that works is the drivers identified 3. My warning lights came on and it started smelling inside the car I shut the car off and the warning light went off so I thought it was ok finished driving home and became sick opened the hood and my battery had smoke pouring out of each side my sinuses were burning, my throat was on fire I was sick the rest of the night I called poison control and they told me what to do.

The cvt transmission has a bad shudder while driving and shifting into gears. It jerks when trying to accelerate and is extremely slow trying to accelerate the vehicle. The safety of me and other vehicles were in danger because the vehicle failed to accelerate when going up an incline or just driving down an even lane road with no inclines or hills. The vehicle has been inspected by a certified auto repair shop and after inspection, I was told that the cvt transmission needs to be replaced. The first instance of trouble happened on June 7th, 2023 while I was driving to work. The check engine light came on and the accelerator was hesitant. The car could barely maintain a safe speed. I was travelling on the highway when this occurred.

I was traveling on a multi lane road at a speed of approximately 45 mph. There were cars directly behind me. Multiple pedestrian crossings were in front of me but the pedestrians had already crossed the road and were safely on the sidewalk. However, the caution lights from the crosswalk were still illuminated from the pedestrians that had previously crossed. As I reached the pedestrian crossing, the vehicle’s front collision warning system activated and immediately applied heavy brake pressure. There was nothing I could do to override it and since there was nothing in front of my vehicle, the cars behind me were not expecting a sudden stop. The car behind me was able to stop in time but narrowly avoided a collision with the rear of my vehicle as a result.

I have reported this before with no resolution. The vehicle that financed (2019 Nissan Sentra sv) always slows down during acceleration causing the car to jerk myself and passenger(s) forward and the car to make grinding sounds and would only allow continued driving after the car decelerated when there was no vehicle in the front vicinity of the car. The transmission is at present in need of replacement and the Nissan manufacturer is saying I am responsible for fixing it with a cost of $2600. 00 with less than 100k this should not be an expense that I have to pay when I reported this issue months ago and several owner/operators of this car are having the same as me problem!.

Transmission failure in under 3 years. I replaced my transmission and rear assembly in 2022-23. It started with pressing the gas pedal and the car wouldn’t accelerate while in heavy traffic. I spent over $3,000 on a brand new engine. Come 2024 the exact same problem with the repair price being quoted at around $7,000. There was no hard driving on the car so I don’t understand how it’s going so soon. I’ve never had so much trouble with a car.

Hello I was driving on the highway yesterday when my transmission failed. The car stopped accelerating and would not increase speed despite my foot being on the gas. I was hit several times before navigating to the median. If not for me being calm under pressure my life and the lives of other motorists were at risk. This is unacceptable.

The car had problems with failing to start and failing to accelerate while driving. Check engine light came on and obd scanner indicated it was the cvt. The car was inspected and repaired in March 2023. In 2025 (the same problem of check engine indicating the cvt) is occurring. Cvt sensor was replaced; however, two weeks later the check engine light is back on indicating cvt issues and is now also overheating.

I called my home Nissan yesterday to get the information about my recalls on my car that I was not aware of after the state troopers helped me get my cat to a safe location. I was told that there are recalls on the car (and was never notified) I called where it was originally bought from a Nissan dealership and they gave me several recall codes as I was stranded in the freezing cold with my babies in the car. There are several recalls on my car (p1-1,p1-2, and p1-5,2, p1-8. ) the car went from 1rpm and shot up to 8, and down to 0 and the car would not drive after that unless it was less than 15mph. Anything over 15-20 the car would go from 1rpm back to 8, and shoot down to 0 and jerk the car forward and backwards. I was told it was only an 02 reprogramming recall from the location it was towed to, to a different Nissan dealership. However, I was given several codes of recall from the Nissan dealership that I purchased it from.

To be brief, I had a Nissan Sentra 2019 leased car from 10/19 to present. About 1 year during its lease (3 year), I noticed that the instrument clock freezes and the other clock on the radio panel/screen does not. I have contacted Nissan company and the dealership that I leased the auto from. No help at all. I have 6 different videos of this situation on my cell phone. The main reason I am contacting this federal agency is that the last time it happened (01/23), I the control instruments on the steering wheel did not function at all. I will admit I never tried to use the various controls when the clock froze in the past 2 years until by chance I did this past month. This may also involve even the car horn (all in the same area). Thus, all I have been asking is to have av control ( or whatever else) replaced. However, it is a safety problem if it also affects, controls on steering wheel area (cruise control, instrument panel , radio , horn etc. ) once car is turned off the system reboots and even thing works, it does not matter about the temperature, speed, time duration of travel, day or night. I know there have been problems with this model as stated on google. As one can see when the instrument displays are not working there can and will be problems including safety. Note: I have contacted Nissan customer service dept. After many calls, Nissan did send me an extended warranty for the electical. Problem is the company does not honor the warranty. So what good is any warranty if it is never honored!.

On acceleration to 60 mph or more noted moments of jerky/hesitation as if shifting gears- evaluation by dealership x2- they noted the same thing. . . . Could not fix the problem was told to bring back once engine light comes on or sensor code is generated in their computer system which checks the transmission. Awareness that this is a transmission problem. A month later car fails to increase speed to 50mph going up a small incline. . . Driving over a mountainous pass. . . . . Then as got to a straightaway it had to shift down to 20-30 mph due to weather conditions and traffic- then the rpm keep wavering would not be steady at this lower mph. . . . Then within 10 miles of this. . . . Intown at stop lights rpm would acelerate at complete stop and then it didn't want to move- was able to get up to 10 mph yet could not get through the intersection without the traffic light turning red before I could make it through happen multiple times. . . Once it did this I had to drive with my hazard lights on to warn other drivers. . . . . . Such a safety hazard. . . Let it sit for 2 days then. I was able to drive it 25 miles with the rpm constantly wavering between 1. 5 and 3 with the cruise set at 60mph. . . . Check engine light came . . . . . Towed 100 miles. Now at the car dealer/manufacturer for replacement of the cvt transmission . . . . This could have been avoided if 1 month earlier the cvt could have been replaced. . . . 5 year old car with less than 100k. . . . . . It is an automatic car.

Pressing on the gas pedal would not accelerate the car. This was intermittent. With cruise control set, the car would no longer maintain the set speed. Both of these occurred repeatedly and while going different speeds. This lasted for 2+ weeks until the dealer was able to find the defect. Nothing was recorded on the car's error messages. The dealership was unable to find the cause and eventually called Nissan's engineering department at corporate. They were aware of the issue in other vehicles that would also stop accelerating and provided a possible solution to the Nissan dealership. The dealer charged us to replace a "brake switch" which was randomly triggering a braking event even though the brake pedal was not touched or engaged.

Vehicle idles low when driving and rpms rev at stops, then almost stalling. When applying the break the vehicle lunges forward. When accelerating vehicle doesn’t want to move. Near misses when making left turns and in heavy traffic. Repeating and ongoing issue. Steering wheel goes limp and fails to respond.

My Nissan keeps slipping when I try to accelerate. I noticed everyone is having the same problem there needs to be a recall some people don't have money for a new transmission. The dealerships have to take care of this issue and I need a car to get back and forth. I bought this car brand new in 2017. I need this issue addressed.

My 2018 Nissan Sentra is currently in the shop at my local Nissan dealership because it needs a transmission replacement. The car lurched ahead causing me to run into my garage door causing damage. It also while driving loses power, the rpm meter will drop for a few seconds and you will see and feel it re engage a few seconds later. It does this frequently at various speeds.

While traveling down the interstate doing the normal speed limit, I was forced to pull over to the emergency lane so cars can pass me. My car lost power to the engine without notice. No check system engine lights were not activated during this time. Car and trucks were having to swerve over in other lanes to keep from rear ending me and causing a major wreck. This happen several weeks ago again with no lights lighting up on dash. I was able to pull over for a few minutes and restart the car and it was back to normal. I looked things up online and took my car into a repair shop to let me know the problem, they stated that they have seen this issue with Nissan vehicles. It is the cvt transmission issue. The loss of power comes from the cvt fluid getting too hot and reduces power to save the cvt transmission, I have a 2012 Nissan Sentra that was manufactured 6/2012.

While cruise control is on (not adaptive cruise), the slightest turn in the steering wheel causes the vehicle to slow down. Vehicle slows on a small curve up to 5mph, since the brake isn’t being applied anyone approaching from behind may not adjust quickly.

My car was hesitant to start I called the recalls line and I let the Nissan lot know that my car had recall on the break switch which is connected to my gears, I never received a notice informing me about this issue so when I let the lot know they told me nothing was wrong, after driving it again it wouldnt start I took it to the lot and they said its my transmission and break switch battery ect. I am requesting that my car get repair for free for recall service I dont feel I should have to pay $8000 for service repair more then one Nissan Sentra has had transmission problems in the last year.

At least 7 times I have come across the same safety issue, where I had to accelerate on to the highway and as I placed my foot o foot pedal. My vehicle wouldn't accelerate as if the engine and transmission were not communicating together. I had several vehicles follow very close to me from behind. I placed my hazard lights on. I even placed my foot all the way down to the floor panel and there was no reaction from the transmission again I had to place my hazard warning light on to inform the vehicles behind me that I was having trouble accelerating. I had to drive slow all the way home, this issue has been occurring for 1 week now.

Vehicle fails to accelerate and breaks for no reason. Driver is not in control of vehicle. Last I checked I have the drivers license not the vehicle, yet I am unable to accelerate when pressing the gas at times. Other times driving 65 on the expressway the vehicle abruptly stops nearly causing me to be rear ended. Nissan isn’t addressing safety concerns. I’m traumatized by this vehicle.

My cvt transmission is not working anymore because of the manufacture defect.

Defective egr valve. No eta of repair. Vehicle failed to accelerate several occasions and was almost hit due to defective part. Dealership was able to get a code off the vehicle, yet no warnings for driver. Valve failure could have caused fatalities. Dealership advised Nissan is aware of defective egr valve and that is why the mechanic could identify the problem.

At 505 miles vehicle center radio/control display failed to work also suspending the use for sensors for crash prevention. Vehicle has less than 2500 miles on it and doesn’t want to accelerate. When driving and attempting to make turns the vehicle fails to go forward with pressing the gas pedal to the ground. Vehicle continues to feel like it is going to stall, shutters at various times and is unstable when driving as the vehicle does what it wants when it wants, driver is not in control. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle.

When driving one day my car began to shift into higher and lower gears on its own. I began experiencing my car shifting and losing power randomly while driving. I brought my car to a Nissan dealer and was informed that my car was one of many with a faulty cvt transmission. My car is 6 months and 4,000 miles past the warranty so they cant help me, but im hoping you can help others before someone is killed by their defective car.

While driving on the freeway pulling approximately 70 miles per hour, my car will begin to shake violently, continuously decelerate and my rpms drop significantly. I am unable to go over 55 miles per hour when this happens. This has happened to me a total of four times now within the last 2 months. I had my car take this one auto repair shop in which my spark plugs were changed out a brand new air intake hose was put in my coils were changed out and everything. Today while driving on the freeway, going 72 mph my car decelerated and would not go above 55. This is a major safety issue considering I drive on the freeway a lot. I just paid $970 to have my car fixed and can't continue to pay to have the car fixed along with still paying a car note and insurance on this car. Well researching transmission issues I came across this page when filing a complaint. I looked to see if there was a recalls on my car and noticed that there is not. Powertrain , speed control transmission slipping won't go forward or reverse slow.

While traveling at highway speeds, the rpm’s would rapidly jump. As of the vehicle was confused at what gear it should be in. This would cause unsteady driving and also made it feel like the transmission was about to fail. This has happened multiple times. While using and not using cruise control. I have video evidence of it happening on another occasion.

When I would hit my breaks and sit at a red light . My car would start vibrating really bad and then force it’s self up even though my foot would be on the break and almost his someone walking and a few other times in a car . It also would shut its self off and back on . When I put it in park it would die and when I put it back in drive it would die . Sometimes turn its self back on & I have a push to start .

At 65mph, I hit a tiny bump. The automatic braking system and collision detection warnings triggered and I lost all acceleration ability. I was nearly hit by a semi while coasting off the freeway in traffic. When inspected by Nissan the first time it happened (9/20/2021), the lights turned off and the computer reset. They did a warranty recall for something unrelated and told me they fixed it. On 5/13/2022 it did it again, and on 5/30 I was told it would not be covered under any warranty - all diagnosis and repair would be my own cost. A sensor should never take control of the car away from the driver. The only way to regain acceleration is to turn the car off. Wait. Turn it on. Wait. Use the menu, turn off automatic emergency braking, drive.

The wiring that connects to the throttle sensor is fraying and causes the car to stall unexpectedly when driving. If the car stalls unexpectedly it increases the chances of a fatal accident. There are no warnings, all the warnings appear when the car stalls. My safety is at risk because it stalls when driving unexpectedly and another car can hit me from behind causing an accident without warning.

I have repaired the mass airflow sensor 3x’s by the dealership who sold me the car the last 2 times they didn’t make me pay for it. And I’m still having the same issue. My car will jerk and idle and I was driving and all of a sudden I loss speed and I was accelerating but the car was only moving about 5 miles per hr the cars behind me almost hit me in the rear end. The longer I drive the car the worst it gets. Then if u pull to the side and cut the car off and back on again it would run hard but it would get speed. Until I try to accelerate then it will stall again. This is a safety hazard especially on the interstate.

I was driving my 2014 nisaan Sentra sv and when merging into traffic from the off ramp as I turned and accelerated in that second the car downshifted and accelerated enough to put me in danger due to the oncoming vehicles it then shook and I had the gas pedal depressed completely the vehicle then jerked real hard and would not go thankfully the vehicles that were oncoming seen me with just enough time to almost cause a huge car accident they slowed however you could hear brakes and see people behind the first vehicle swerving due to the sudden stop because of me I was honked at cussed at flipped off someone even threw a drink at my car and it could have been way worse the vehicle would not shift I had to get out in the middle of highway to push my car into a safe zone where I was in danger not to mention I lost my job for the simple fact it was my first day at my new career in johnstown at high country beverage since I purchassed this vehicle on July 3 2021 the dealership sold me a lemon vehicle that absolutely would not pass emissions in which I had to force dealership to re issue my temp tags 3 times due to the failed attemps and they would not give me my money back they had several attemps and chances to fix the issue in which they never did ive spent hundreds of dollars out of my pocket to figure it out and finally Jan 2022 I was able to pass emissions , then shortly after in Feb 2022 the car kept dying out and reading p0101 p0102 code mass air flow sensor and low circut current I spent 400 dollars to fix this issue theres more.

The car will not shift into third or accelerate over 2,000 rpms.
