Driver side rear axle seal leaking oil and faultly axle bearing at 50k miles. Very common failure in early life of vehicle, many complaints. Replace seal an bearing at cost over $700. The driver side rear axle failure is most common and is not the dominant drive wheel.
Power train:axle assembly:axle shaft:seal 2006 Nissan Titan.
I have a 2006 Nissan Titan. I was on vacation with my wife and granddaughter this past week when I noticed the braking on my truck felt wrong. It took much further to stop than it should. It could have caused an accident. I pulled over to a rest area and noticed a burning smell coming from the rear of the vehicle. I checked the fluids and everything looked ok. I went to a garage to have it looked at. The mechanic showed me where the rear axle seals were leaking differential fluid into the brake drums on both rear wheels and spinning fluid into the wheels. They told me I need to get it over to the Nissan dealer to have them look at it. I called Nissan and they told me this is a common issue with Titans. They consider it safe. But they tell me I need to get it fixed right away. The rear brakes have differential fluid leaking into them. Which means I may even have to replace the rear brakes because they are being damaged! they also told me the rear axle could lock up causing more danger and damage. They admit this is a common issue but they will not let the owners know in writing. That is probably because they would rather the owner encure the huge expense of repairing this issue after their warranty has expired. They will not consider this a recall. I will have to spend $3000 to replace the rear axle. I am furious and disapointed that Nissan will not issue a recall on this. While researching this online I see hundreds of post. Why is this not being addressed? it hasn't even been five years yet since I purchased the vehicle. I am only at 85,000 miles. Nissan should be ashamed of their pathetic response and refusal to fix this issue at their expense. This is a saftey issue Nissan! I will never buy a Nissan again if they don't resolve this issue at their expense.
2006 Nissan Titan axle seal failure. This will be the second axle seal replaced and the second time the pinion seal has been replaced on a truck with only 73000 miles. The cost is prohibitive and the failure causes grease to drip on the rear brakes.
Rear axle is leakin oil from it. Its getting the rear brakes wet, with the oil is making it harder to stop. I first noticed this the other day when I went through a red light because I could not stop. My Nissan Titan is a 2006 xe. 74500 miles. I have only towed a trailer with the truck a hand full of times and never exceded 5000 lbs of trailer weight which includes the weight of the trailer. There is also a tow package installed in the truck. I am currently looking in to parts and prices of repairing this leak. If this could cause brakes to fail how come this isnt a recall? and if it does become a recall will they also cover any paint damage that may occure from the oils on the tail gate?.
1. Noticed "4 wheel low" indicator light was on even though never engaged, abs indicator light on and a loud "clunk" emanating from the rear axle. Truck began to pull to one side. 2. Rear axle gears destroyed, rear ebrake "shoes" and all associated parts destroyed. 3. Dealer wanting to replace entire braking assembly, rear axle assembly at customer expense. Customer is below the man. Warranty dictated miles/months. Dealer does not want to cover it under the manufacturers warranty and a platinum warranty from "the mechanic" aka "the warranty group".
Rear axle leak - 2006 Nissan Titan cc 4wd with 39000. Driver side rear axle seal starting leaking. Concern due to the proximity to brake/brake caliper.
Both rear axle seals are leaking on my 2006 Nissan Titan. The passenger side is so bad the gear oil has slung all over the wheel and the parking brake shoes are dripping wet.
Power train:axle assembly:axle shaft:r/passenger side seal leaks onto brake rotor dust shield , potential for brake failure which could result in vehicle crash causing possible injury or fatality.
2006 Nissan Titan rear axle seal leaking. The oil change guy said it was leaking on my rear brakes yesterday. Googled it and found lots and lots of others said theirs went out as early as 22,000 miles.
Right rear brake full of oil from defective axel seal. Oil has leaked out of the right side of the rear axle and on to the disk brakes causing the right rear wheel to lock up when the brakes are applied. My family was forced to stop driving the truck as it will cause an accident and would cost $1200 to repair.
06 Nissan Titan 4x4 rear end failure. There was a clicking from the driver side rear on my way home from a vacation, a few miles down the road I stopped at a stoplight. When I began to accelerate there was a pop and I lost all power to the rear end. My axle somehow snapped almost dislodging it from the vehicle and now the dealership tells me I need to pay for an entire new rear end. This truck was never abused and saw mild offroad usage. I am very concerned as I could have lost my rear wheel while traveling down the highway at high speeds. This is not the only incident of Nissan Titan owners that I have heard. I believe it is becoming a serious issue.
I have a 2006 Nissan Titan with 69k miles on it. The rear axel seals are leaking fluid which could cause the rear end to lock up during commute and cause and accident. It is leaking onto the brakes also.
Front diff driver side axle pushing out.
On Saturday Aug. 7 I noticed a puddle of what appeared to be oil at the right rear of my 2006 Nissan Titan. The entire wheel was covered in oil, after inspecting, I found I had a leak from the seal on the axle. While trying to find out how and why, I found out that this is a common problem with Nissan . Why is there not a recall. This could be an expensive repair to any owner. Nissan needs to stand behind their product.
I placed my truck on a lift to inspect the underbody and change my oil. During the process, I saw liquid streaks down the inside of my left rear wheel hub and rotor. I had determined the rear axle seal was the leaking culprit, enabling axle fluid to drain onto the wheel hub and brake assembly. Although brake performance was noticeably degraded, the situation could have become far worse. The Nissan dealership replaced the seal assembly, but I am not confident this will correct the issue. . 2006 Nissan Titan rear axle seals leaking for the 3rd time, rear axle replaced once.
Passenger rear axle seal leaking. No towing, no hard use. Axle oil leaks on brake and could possibly cause fire or loss of brakes. Stock vehicle, no modifications. Second time this seal has failed.
The pin going into the rear axle or differential had snapped in half.
At 55000 miles the rear axle seal on my 2006 Nissan Titan began to leak causing rear brake failure. New axle seals fixed the problem.
2006 Nissan Titan rear axel seals leak gear oil into rear brake system.
2006 Nissan Titan. Normal driving, the rear wheel seal on the right side is leaking fluid again at 122k miles. This will be the second time that it has to be replaced.
I own a 2006 Nissan Titan which has had two rear axle seals leak. Both were fixed under warranty by my local Nissan dealer. My understanding is that this is a common problem with Nissan Titans and poses a safety issue since the leaks allow rear differential oil to leak on the rear brakes.
Rear axle seal failure. Oil from the leak spilled onto brakes causing right rear brake failure.
Yoke seal leaking in rear differential.
I have a 2006 Nissan Titan and just before 60,000 miles the rear end failed. I was on the highway doing about 65mph. The rear started to make noise so I pulled off the road to take a look. When I looked under the truck there was differential fluid all over the rear of the truck and under. So I called a tow truck. When the tow truck arrived I pull my truck up to the flat bed, when the tow truck driver went to pull my Nissan up on the flat bed the rear end was locked up, I had it in neutral at the time. I started my truck and put it in drive and there was a loud noise, I looked under the truck to notice my drive shaft had fallen off and was on the ground. This was very upsetting, I just kept thinking what if I had the music on or something and didn't hear the noise when I did. If this had happened at highway speeds I could have been killed. A locked up rear end or a drive shaft falling off at high speeds is a very serious safety issue. I have done some research on this matter and found that this is not an isolated incident. There are quite a bit of people having this same issue. I love my truck and have taken very good care of it, did all my required services. When this happened I still fell under the 60,000mile powertrain warranty, I had about 56k at the time, and they replaced the entire rear end assembly. I would assume that Nissan is aware of this issue, due to the number of complaints that I have found, and should do something about it before someone is killed.
Rear axle seal failed leaking oil on the brakes.
Axle seals failed at 51,000 then at 53,100 and 53,300. . . Nissan is replacing the rear end (whatever parts that includes) front differential failure at 51, 000 the warrantied differential would not work with the truck on the ground but worked on the lift. . . What a pos. . . . Axle seals 7/31,9/4,9/9 waiting for rear end.
2006 rear axle seals major failure at 51,000 miles and again less than 2000 miles later. Same seal.
Rear axle seal failure, leaks oil onto rear brake rotor. Causing poor braking.
2006 Nissan Titan rear axle seal leaked and need replacement after 60k mile. I know of 4 other titian owners that had the same problem. Nissan should have a recall to fix this problem based on how widespread the axle seal leak is.
There was not a crash, but there was a problem that could have led to one. The rear axle seals leak on almost all Nissan Titan pickup trucks. I've had mine replaced 3 times in 75,000 miles. When this happens, oil from the axle covers the rear brake rotors, affecting braking ability.
Rear axle seal failure. I noticed a driver-side rear seal leak yesterday (7/29/2009). Rear seal is leaking differential fluid over rear brakes causing hazard of a brake failure. The vehicle is a 2006 Nissan Titan king cab xe 2x4 with approximately 25000 mi. Vehicle was purchased new in 2/2007 from dealer. Vehicle has never towed or been off-road. This is a safety concern due to a low mileage vehicle with no abuse having a mechanical failure that could affect a safety feature such as the brakes.
Faulty rear axle seals on a 2006 Nissan Titan could cause rear end failure at speed or lack of braking ability of the rear brakes.
Rear axle seal failure both sides. Contaminated brakes causing failure of rear brakes. Replacement of seals and brake components necessary for repair. Accident avoided.
