Failure Date: 01/31/2018

There is a recall on Nissan Versa coil springs. My spring broke while driving vehicle on a busy road prior to the recall. I had both springs replaced due to excessive rusting (reason for recall). Upon recall. . . Dealer notified me. Said the springs must be replaced again by a Nissan dealer. They quoted a price of $490 to me saying that the current springs are in good shape, but stripped bolts due to prior replacement. Not only do they not reimburse the additional $490 for the replacement. . . That must be paid up front prior to requesting the coil spring reimbursement they say that the current springs are fine. . . And that the stripped bolts do not cause any problems. . . . Other than doing the replacement, which is unnecessary!!!! why are they charging me for a reimbursement. . . . The way I see it, they are making money off a recall. . . . Not exactly the way this is meant to work. . . I nearly wreck my car due to defective equipment and later having a recall on that defective equipment, money is required from the consumer. No. . . . .

Takata recall and unknown.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2016

A recall was done on the front spring coils. I took my car in to have recall completed only to find out my back spring coils are also damaged. I don't understand why the front can be recalled and the back coils are also defected the reasoning why they are not under a recall.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2015

The trunk of the Nissan Versa hatchbatch is keyless and will not open upon unlocking the car doors.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2015

Ignition lock cylinder failure.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2015

Car was bouncing and making loud clunk noises. Front springs were found to have been broken . Both left and right front suspension springs were broken in two pieces. Mechanic stated that the broken springs had potential to puncture the tires. The springs seem to have broken on rusty part of the springs. Once they are broken they can twist on the strut and get in the way of tire and other parts near the wheels. The spring at the broken section was severed to make a very sharp edge. Both springs were replaced at the cost of $702. 22.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2015

This morning when I drove to work and came into the parking garage I noticed a loud noise making my Versa s hatchback sound like a monster truck. I drove it home about 15 miles and inspected it. Appears the incoming muffler pipe "disconnected" from the gasket with a fairly clean break. This happened on the side of the muffler closer to the engine and furthest away from the back of the hatchback. Causing loud noise, seems to be worse when idled at a stop light/sign. Found a forum online that states this happens in northern climates (I live in mi) and a lot of other people actually experienced sooner than I did.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2015

The catalytic converter flange that connects to the intermediate exhaust pipe corroded and the catalytic converter now needs to be replaced. There's not even 30,000 miles on the car. Moreover, the connection between the intermediate pipe and the muffler also corroded so the intermediate pipe had to be replaced. At approximately 25,000 miles I had to have the muffler and tailpipe replaced because the connection between the two had corroded and they had separated.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2015

Premature muffler corrosion, insufficient anti-corrosion coating: muffler (center & rear) rusted off and dragged on the ground, emitting loud noise and creating air safety hazard. Car had < 40,000 miles and < 4 years old at the time.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2014

Rear hatchback button is not opening the hatchback. This is a safety issue because the spare tire is located in the cargo area. This one day at approximately 45,000 miles stopped working.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2014

I turned out of a parking lot. Merged into lane headed towered cleveland Ave. I ran the red light and hit a car. I hit it head on going 40 and the air bags did not deploy. I was also 16 weeks pregnant and had to be take to the hospital for further evaluation. The front on my car was damaged so bad to the point where the whole front of the car frame was bent. The police said that the impact and how much damage was done my airbags should have deployed. But they did not.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2014

A hole rusted through my muffler.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2014

Immediately upon startup, a loud rumbling noise similar to after market exhaust was audible as well as a strong vibration down the center long-axis of the car. I stepped out of the vehicle and inspected the undercarriage to find that the flange had eroded and the muffler was dangerously loose. No rust is visible, and the undercarriage is clean, so this is not due to inadequate maintenance or road salt. I have found hundreds of similar complaints online where service stations and repair shops have commented that there is a serious design flaw in the Versa muffler, which typically fails between 50-80k miles. Allowing such a failure to continue on the road without a recall may result in unsafe road conditions for all drivers; if the muffler falls off, it will become an obstacle on the road which may impact other vehicles or cause drivers to swerve to avoid hitting the material.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2014

My vehicle was struck in the rear by a 2005 Dodge caravan SUV. The driver left a parking space and was using a cell phone. My vehicle had stopped due to a parking car opening the driver's side door unto traffic. My car was slammed in the rear by the 2005 Dodge caravan at aprox 20 mph. The airbags in my Nissan Versa did not deploy and the driver of my car suffered internal injuries. There was no "warning" light that the airbags in my 2009 Nissan Versa were non-functional.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2013

I bought two 2009 Nissan Versas brand new. First the front right hub cap fell off both vehicles within the first year. Next the key hole cover on the door handle fell off on both cars. By the fourth year the ac compressor went out and I had to pay $1,300 to replace it. Finally I walk out to my vehicle, go to open the door, and the driver door handle came completely off. When I was driving on the highway I saw another Nissan Versa (same model) with the door handle missing. The part is defective.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2013

When applying the brakes at a low speed the vehicle accelerated to approximately half a throttle for about 10 seconds, everything went back to normal after this incident. This happened 2 other times with the same results. Each incident was about a week apart.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2013

Takata recall passenger airbag one on recall list, possibly driver's is not safe according to the safety of safecar. . Government dad 81 has to sit in back and my side could hurt or kill me!.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2013

The muffer is making noise. It looks like it has a lot of rust. The car has only 25000 milage so far. Must be a defective part from the company.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2013

I drove my car to work fine that morning. Leaving work I heard strange clunks while in the parking lot. Looked the car over but didn't notice anything. Continued to drive car on my usual route. I went over a bridge and my car bounced terribly. I made it home and my boyfriend found my driver side coil spring busted. Was still able to carefully drive it to my mechanic and he found that the passenger side spring broke too. Reading online I see many complaints on this happening. There should be no reason they should break on such a new car. They are defective and hazardous. I feel very lucky mine broke the way they did and not puncture my tire or lock my steering.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

My Nissan Versa 2009 muffler seems to be corroding or rusting too quickly. We first replaced parts of the muffler a little over a year ago (in 2013) and now the muffler is going bad again. I have seen other 2009 Versa owner complaints about the mufflers online. I do not know if this should be a recall issue due to hazardous gases that can leak into the cabin or mufflers that may fall into the road.
