1 Suspension Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2009 Nissan Versa. While turning the vehicle out of a parking spot, the contact detected a noise coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle was serviced per NHTSA campaign number: 15v573000 (suspension), but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The contact mentioned that the coil spring fractured after the recall repair. The vehicle was taken to walser Nissan burnsville (14750 buck hill rd, burnsville, mn 55306, (612) 395-4984) where it was diagnosed that the coil spring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 81,000.

2 Suspension Noise problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2016

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Versa. While driving at various speeds, the contact heard an abnormal noise near the front of the vehicle. The contact observed that the vehicle scraped the ground. The dealer diagnosed that the strut springs were fractured and needed to be replaced. The two coil springs and front struts were replaced. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v573000 (suspension). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the state was not part of the recall states. The failure mileage was approximately 79,457.

3 Suspension Noise problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2015

The drivers side front suspension coil spring fracture in my model year 2009 Nissan Versa rusted/corroded and broke while driving on the highway at approximately 70mph. The noise was apparent and the car immediately began pulling slightly to the left. I pulled over to examine the vehicle and could not find any specific reason for the noise and continued home. I took the car into mccarthy Nissan and was told that the front coil spring had rusted/corroded and cracked and that driving the car in that condition was extremely dangerous and required immediate replacement of the front coils.

4 Suspension Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2015

I was routinely pulling into my driveway, and I heard a single ping/knock sound, immediately followed by a grinding noise, coming from the front right of the car. The car instantly became difficult to maneuver. Upon immediate inspection, I could see that the lower part of the coil spring had broken cleanly. The remaining portion of the spring had come away from the metal restraining plate, and was extending against the inside top part of the tire. The metal did not puncture the tire, but it is significantly indenting the rubber. The car is not driveable. Furthermore, the left coil spring, in the same relative place, shows significant corrosion, and does not look safe for driving. Coil springs are expected to last the lifetime of a car-- especially one well cared for and driven in almost ideal conditions, like mine. I have never had a coil spring break on me. This is no coincidence, as the second one appears to be faulty as well. I can only feel grateful that this didn't happen while I was driving with my family on the highway. Has this occurred on the highway, the tire would have surely blown out, and I would have lost control of the vehicle. Nissan needs to step up and recall these springs before someone loses their life! I will need to have my suspension repaired, as well as possibly my front right tire. I wholly expect Nissan to pick up the tab for this.

5 Suspension Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2015

I was in a parking lot, stopped. The car was in drive and my foot was on the brake. Suddenly there was a loud metal crash sound. The car jolted slightly, like something hit the car. I got out of the car and saw a piece of the front left suspension coil spring behind my front left tire. The spring had broken at the end, about half way around the first coil on the bottom. I feel that if I had been travelling at speed, this defect could have caused the tire to fail, and I could have potentially lost control.

6 Suspension Noise problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2015

Car was bouncing and making loud clunk noises. Front springs were found to have been broken . Both left and right front suspension springs were broken in two pieces. Mechanic stated that the broken springs had potential to puncture the tires. The springs seem to have broken on rusty part of the springs. Once they are broken they can twist on the strut and get in the way of tire and other parts near the wheels. The spring at the broken section was severed to make a very sharp edge. Both springs were replaced at the cost of $702. 22.

7 Suspension Noise problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2015

I was leaving the driveway when I heard a crack or snap sound in the right front tire area. After inspection, the service tech said the right front or passenger suspension coil spring failed. This is my second incident. The drivers side also broke in 2014 while I was driving.

8 Suspension Noise problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2014

2009 Nissan Versa hatchback with 50825 miles. Front passenger suspension coil (spring) broke off while driving. Very loud clang/bang sound. Didn¿t know what happened. Stopped vehicle and did not see anything obvious. When home in garage, upon closer inspection, noticed that the front passenger side coil had broken off. It appeared to have rust on it. I read numerous complaints online regarding same issue online. This is appears to be a defective part and a safety concern that should require a recall. Cost to replace both front coils = $550.

9 Suspension Noise problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2014

When pulling out of garage heard loud bang from right front end. Thought had run over something in garage, but found nothing at the time. Drove several hours on highway without further incident until turned sharp into destination driveway and heard a definite suspension "spring-like" sound. Drove around the block turning hard, but sound did not recur. Subsequently heard the same spring sound intermittently, especially when making a hard turn. Had problem evaluated by Nissan dealer who said right front coil spring was broken and needed replaced. Subsequently took in for actual repair and dealer instead recommended to replace both front coil springs (best as a pair), both struts (since right one seeping slightly), and have aligned. Total quoted cost about $750 for all repairs.

10 Suspension Noise problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2014

I was taking a right hand turn after a stop sign in a department store parking lot. I heard a loud popping noise stop to check it out. And there was a half moon shaped piece of coil from my driver side suspension laying on the ground.

11 Suspension Noise problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2013

Tl- the contact owns a 2009 Nissan Versa. The contact stated that there was an abnormal noise and a fracture of the coil spring with no warning in the front and the rear. The contact experienced the failure the first time while pulling out of the driveway. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop who replaced the right front coil spring June 18th, 2013 and the failure happened again August 26th, 2015. The vehicle was taken back to the repair shop who replaced the left front coil spring. The contact noticed that months later there was an abnormal noise in the rear, the vehicle was taken to a repair shop again and they indicated that the rear coil springs needed to be replaced as well. The contact later received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v573000 (suspension) and was to schedule a recall repair with the dealer. The contact was concerned that the recall repair did not address the premature failure of the rear coil springs that fractured with no warning. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and they provided no remedy. The approximate failure mileage was 25,985. Dyd.

12 Suspension Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2013

After investigating strange noise from front suspension area, discovered that both left and right side coil springs were broken. One broken spring end came close to puncturing tire (which had to be replaced). Have owned many cars over many years and never had a coil spring break. Car is not driven under any extreme conditions. Cost to replace springs and damaged tire was nearly $1000. Nissan will not acknowledge any known problem with Versa front springs, but nearly 50% of NHTSA complaints on Versa are for broken front springs! if spring had punctured tire at high speed, could have been deadly.
