If you have the ac full blast and are idling at a red light the car will stall out as if it weren't getting fuel because it won't start right back up. In order for me to start it I had to press and depress the acceleration pedal while attempting to turn it over. If turning over exceeds the batteries voltage it will kill the battery resulting in worse problems. If you're lucky it will turn over after a long time turning it over while pushing gas pedal but if you don't unplug and plug in the fuel pump it might not work. If you idle for long periods of time you'll stall out for sure once the car starts sputtering hitting the gas pedal will only increase the speed of the stall because letting go seems to drain the systems fuel and it seems you'll have to get the fuel running thru system again. This car also has a lot more wrong with for starters the trunk is not sealed by welding it honestly looks like brown paint which doesn't completely cover the cracks between the frame and trunk bottom and sometimes I get light headed when idling before it started to stall out. This particular vehicle was made in mexico and seems to be cheaply made because the trim doesn't even display the Versa s just Versa aside from that immediately after purchasing it the passenger door lock no longer works neither does the trunk. You can hear the wind thru the doors while driving and the floor seems poorly insulated from heat. The blower motor isn't blowing the ac out as hard as it was. When accelerating pops are heard coming from the bottom of the car which I don't know the source but I do know it can't be good. This vehicle is my mother's but I drive it a lot and this is only my half of the experience. I honestly think she got scammed because this 2017 car doesn't have electric seats, door locks or windows and doesnt even have a key fob or alarm.

The gas gauge is not accurate and ever since running out of gas the first time it's been acting stranger and stranger. The noise no longer chimes when running low it also doesn't have extra fuel reserve so once you run out you run out. My cars fuel pump just went out in the middle of the freeway and this was at night. The car no longer starts yet alone move. I got stuck on the freeway traffic on both sides it was full of people flying by me so I could not even get out to move.
Recently, I experienced an extremely hazardous problem with the fuel tank on my 2011 Nissan Versa. It was a leak through the top of the fuel pump and into the passenger compartment due to defective, arcing electrical connectors. I reported this to Nissan consumer affairs and they just "blew me off". This could have resulted in serious injury or fatality so I was shocked by their lack of concern. I am a licensed professional engineer with credibility and credentials to properly identify and evaluate this hazard. Attached is some of my correspondence with Nissan as further details. Please review and contact me if you have any questions. Thank you, robert t. Woodbury p. E.

My Versa suddenly quit running while it was stationary a traffic signal. The vehicle would not restart, and there was no smell of fuel associated with the restarting process. I had the vehicle towed to pep boys auto repair shop, and they diagnosed the fuel pump and the power supply fuses for the fuel pump as the causes. The vehicle had 46,000 miles exactly. If this had occurred on a freeway, or in the middle of nowhere, the hazards would have been considerable. .
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Nissan Versa. The contact stated that the vehicle accelerated independently, with the check engine warning light illuminated. In addition to the contact stated that whenever the vehicle is put in reversed the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was not able to restart until after two hours later. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

Driving on the highway car tends to lose power and sputter and in some cases it will stall. When trying to restart it, it will not start. This can be very dangerous. Also, if driving this vehicle and then shutting the engine off you can not restart it without waiting at least 30 minutes. My 16 year old has been driving this car and the first instance it happened was while she was driving it. She lost all power and was not even able to use her brakes. She came very close to hitting a wall but was able to steer it away but steering was very difficult as well. We replaced the fuel pump thinking it wasn't getting enough gas but this still hasn't fixed the issue. We are told by mechanics that the problem can't be duplicated therefore it can't be fixed. I bought this car used and I can't believe that Nissan has not recalled this car due to many complaints with this issue. I guess someone has to lose their life before they will fix it. This is a common problem with the Versa and Nissan takes no responsibility for it. Please look into it and fix it before someone dies.

"fuel pump" second fuel pump in just over 3 years. Second one at my expense. Really?.
Stopped on our way home from a small trip and refueled the Versa. Noticed a small drip coming from the gas tank. Assumed it was coming from an overflow tube inside the fuel filler tube. The next day we took the Versa to our mechanic and told him about it. He investigated and found the fuel leak coming from the fuel pump attached to the top of the fuel tank. The leak as he described it coming from under the plug in where the wiring harness connects to provide power to the pump. Under the plug in was a crack . There was also a hole that appeared in color of a burnt mark to the rear inside corner of the plug in wall exposing a metal stem goes to the prong that connects to the wiring harness. This area is above fuel tank surface or outside the top of the tank. Had this shorted out or created a spark, a possible fire and/or explosion could have occurred and injury and/or death could have occurred to occupants inside the vehicle. When pump was replaced, I took pictures that I hope you can receive. The bottom side where the float arm attached to the side sliding metal parts for measuring fuel level also appeared to have the blackened burnt color on the wall area of the metal parts. I have the defected pump in case you would like to check it out. I also have notified the Nissan service center and showed them the pump defect. I'm wanting to inform you of this because there are other Versa owners out there that could be affected by this. We were lucky.

Car in motion on NJ state highway 94, sparta, NJ. Car had 39k miles. The fuel pump failed on a two-lane highway with no shoulders, but was able to pull over into someone's driveway. It was a Sunday afternoon, 8/30/2015, but was able to get towed through aaa. Situation was dangerous because it is a busy highway. A fuel pump failure occurs without warning, is dangerous, and should not occur in a vehicle that has a Nissan dealer's regular service record, is under 40k miles, and driven only by two people in their 70's. Receipt for repairs is available if requested.

In addition, the vehicle jerked before stalling. The contact mentioned that the fuel warning light illuminated and flickered when there was fuel in the vehicle. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was able to restart. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed but the contact was not notified of the failure caused. The contact mentioned that the fuel pump with some unknown wires were replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unknown. Jo.
After replacing the fuel pump in 2013, the car stalled out in the fast lane of a small town. Negotiating to the right side of the road was extremely dangerous. The vehicle had to be towed to a mechanic where it was determined the second fuel pump also failed. Nissan, in an attempt to avoid a general recall, issued a only a technical bulletin warning of possible fuel pump failure. This situation can be extremely dangerous and should be resolved by Nissan.
The car would continue to stall in extreme temperatures we brought the Nissan in multiple times for service with regards to the problem and they would just advise us to use higher octane fuel this did not remedy the problem they then claimed it needed a new fuel pump the car was stalled in the middle of intersections and became very dangerous so we had to turn the car back in which negatively affecting our credit.
Check engine light came on, code was for a small evap leak, noticed smell of gas fumes inside the passenger cabin. Independent mechanic found and showed me a cracked fuel pump housing, additionally the electrical connection was black on the leftmost pin, evidence of arcing (sparking) from a short/poor connection between contacts.
When the gas tank is completely full, the vehicle has a bad smell of gasoline. After driving for fifty miles, the smell dissipates. I took the Nissan Versa 2007 to hanover Nissan and they informed me that it is the fuel pump. I have done research on the issue and have noticed that it is a relatively common issue on various Nissans. However, Nissan refuses to acknowledge the problem and does not issue any recalls or service bulletins since it costs $800 - $1,000 at a Nissan dealership. They just want to make money so they will not issue an service bulletins regarding the faulty fuel pumps.

While driving, the car chocked and stopped. Had to leave vehicle in current lane and to call tow company. It appeared that the fuel pump died. The fuel pump was changed.
There was no actual accident, but I am extremely concerned. On November 8th I was just starting on the highway, so not even at speed limit, when I felt that pressing on the accelerator it hesitated. I noticed it a few more times and then the service engine light came on. I took it to the dealership and they said to return a week later for the earliest service appointment, but that it was safe to drive. Once in for servicing, I was notified that it would need a new fuel pump because there was a leak. I spoke to another company and they said it seemed odd that for such a new car, it would need a new fuel pump. They also said that having my speed affected was very dangerous. My car is a little over 75,000 miles. I am unsure what to do in such a situation and feel that for safety reasons this should be investigated, especially having read of other such issues with Nissan Versas online.
Fuel pump shut off the car while driving and left stranded at 18,000 mi. , engine blown at 25,000 mi. , now fort wayne Nissan wants to jerk me around on a front suspension problem. The car makes a wobble sound when taking off after startup that they say is a abs safety test. Problem is it never made that sound before, and only after engine replacement. Not only do they say the sound is nothing they say the car doesn't wobble and refuse to replace the defective parts while it was under warranty. Its almost like the brakes are not working too. I paid them 500$ for front brakes and the car still struggles to stop and I assume that is because of the front suspension problems. I am so afraid that the springs are bad just like I see in the forums. My dad owned this car first put the first 6k miles on it. This has been a lemon since the day I got it with 6k miles on it. Something has to be done. I have 7 kids and am terrified that this is being allowed to happen. Please help, this whole coil spring strut assembly problem is out of control, people are getting hurt ! I have already had 4 open back surgeries and cannot go through another.
To whom it my concern, the day March/11/13,I was driving my Nissan Versa 2009 at route 9 south, new jersey, when my car stop running, at that time I got scare because it never happen before,I look at my dashboard and what I saw that it was power and gas but my Nissan Versa do not want to stare, after an hour trying, I called the towing truck to take my Nissan Versa to the mechanic, after a few hours my mechanic called me to tell me the fuse of the fuel pump blow up,I asked him the replace it wit a new one. With all that in place I. When back to drive my Nissan Versa. Now let me tell you that I used my Nissan Versa to go to work and to drive my family around. Now my second incident I was driving again on the route 9 south,06/28/13, but with the only difference that I was driving on the third lane my Nissan Versa with a heavy traffic and my family in the card,it happen again,no gas,no power, looking for to stay away of the traffic, trying to protect my family from to get hurt, now my question is "do I need to risk my life or my family every time that I driving my Nissan Versa 2009?"thank god at these time I was capable park on the side of the highway and call the towing truck to bring my family and my Nissan Versa 2009 home, what about if was my wife driving?, I know she wont have the strength to move the car with out power. Please help me to resolve these problem, for you it my not be a big deal but for me is my life in risk if I drive my Nissan Versa 2009. Thank you in advance. God bless.
While turning into a parking space in a crowded, busy costco lot our Versa stopped running. No warning, just stopped and would not start. Car was towed to a Nissan dealer where we were told the fuel pump needed to be replaced. Now Nissan knows that this is an issue with the Versa but has issued no recall only a technical bulletin so they do not have to pay for the problem. Had our car stopped on the highway during a snow storm the result might have ended with loss of life. Is this going to be like the Toyota accelerator issue problem that was known but not communiccated to the owner. Can you help?.
My 2009 Nissan Versa just had a fuel pump failure (14 Feb 2013). I use this car four days a week to commute to work 83 miles each way. I have completed all maintenance on this vehicle I do not understand why without any warning that this fuel pump would fail. I also remember right after I purchased this car that Nissan replaced my fuel pump at no cost to me but now the same fuel pump has failed anyway to the tune of $644. 58. I searched the internet and discovered that there are numerous customer complaints of fuel pump failures on Nissan Versa's. I had hoped that Nissan would return some if not all of the money that I had to spend out of pocket for this service since this appears to be a re-accouring problem with fuel pumps on Nissan Versa's. I filed a claim and they turned me down they said that there were no recalls for this problem even though they performed a service right after I purchased this car that they called I believe a technical notice. I was lucky this time because I was on the highway when the failure accoured and was able to steer the car over and off the road before something (an accident) happened! I believe this matter is going to get someone killed if it happens at the wrong time especially on the highway.
Traveling on hwy-74 at 55 mph using cruise control there was an electrical issue inside the fuel pump which melted the fuel pump relay in the ipdm. This resulted in the vehicle completely shutting down while traveling on a busy highway. The ipdm was replaced however the fuel pump was not known to be an issue. The same thing happened again on the same highway this time at 65 mph. Fuel pump this time was identified to be causing the electrical issue.
I was traveling when loss of engine power occurred. There was no sound or other indication of engine problems aside from inability to accelerate. Was able to pull vehicle over to the shoulder where the engine would not turn over again. Had vehicle towed to local dealer where I was informed that it was the fuel pump and that the parts are on back order. In addition, while this is a known issue since 2007, there has been no voluntary recall despite many other incidents (as per internet search) of other vehicles losing power while in motion. The initial symptoms include an inability to start upon initial turnover wherein the issue progresses towards total fuel pump failure. I did experience the issue where the engine would take a second or third try to turn over but had attributed it to the starter.
My car is almost five years old. I have had minor problems with it. My car had been stalling to start. I took it to get checked out. I am told my fuel pump needs to be replaced. My car is not under warranty anymore. I did research and found out this is a common problem for my car, and I am unlucky to have encountered it after my warranty was up. It was suggested to me to file an official complaint.
Lost all power to vehicle while traveling down expressway at posted rate of speed (65 mph). No power but all electrical working. Almost caused a horrific accident as I tried to move from the center lane to the road shoulder. It took about 20 tries to restart the car after 45 minutes on the side of the road, but the car did start. I have had problems starting the car intermitently. Finally took it in to a shop and told them my history of fuel problem. They identified the problem and told me about all the info on the net about this problem and Nissan not recalling. Many references to moving vehicle failure. Cost of thew fuel pump is near $1000. I think this is why Nissan is not recalling. But someone will be hurt or killed from this neglect. Did the research on this and found that the fuel pump on this and other Nissans have failed since day one. Too much information on this on message boards. Nissan issued a TSB but is doing nothing about the protecting the driver, passengers, or the driving public from this failure that can happen at any speed.
I was driving down the freeway at about 70mph when the car started to decelerate. After pulling over to the side of the road I was unable to re-start the engine. The starter would turn the engine; however the engine would not start. I had the car towed to a dealership; they later contacted me telling me it was a fuel pump problem. They called me the next day to tell me Nissan does not have the part in stock and that it is on back order.
I was driving down a highway, going 55mph and the car suddenly stopped accelerating. Luckily I was going downhill so I was able to coast into a parking lot. After stopping, I could not get the car to start again. I had to call a tow truck and since my warranty had ended at 36k miles, I took the car to another mechanic. He called a few days later to say it was my fuel pump. I had to pay $687 which left us in debt for a few weeks. I hope someone pays attention to these 20+ complaints about the fuel pump.
Fuel pump over-current condition resulting in opening of fuel pump electrical supply fuse. Per service technician, this is indication of pending fuel pump failure. When fuse blew, car went from 65 to 0 mph in less than eight seconds on us 75, mile marker 49. Should this had occurred two days earlier on interstate 80, between the I-480 and 680 interchange in omaha, multiple fatalities would have occurred. Case no. [xxx] filed with NHTSA on 6/4/12. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2008 Nissan Versa. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the fuel pump was replaced on three prior occasions. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 120,785 and the current mileage was 159,521.
July 2, 2013 - while driving the service engine soon (ses) light comes on. The rate of speed does not seem to have an impact on this problem. I have taken my car to the Nissan dealership on 7 different occasions for this problem. Each time the computer reveals the following code: p2a00 a/f sensor failed. So far the following repairs have been done: replaced front air/fuel sensor (Nov 2011), replaced O2 sensor and reprogrammed the engine control module (ecm) (Mar 2012), replaced the a/f sensor for the 2nd time, and reprogrammed the ecm for the 2nd time (April 2013), replaced the fuel pump (may 2013), replaced the a/f sensor for the 3rd time (June 5, 2013), reprogrammed the ecm (June 18, 2013),and finally replaced the O2 sensor for the 2nd time (June 27, 2013). These repairs have not fixed the problem. The ses light has come back on after my latest service in June 2013. I am frustrated and feel that something else must be going on. Nissan is of no help and is not offering any further assistance other than to replace the same parts over and over and reprogram the ecm. Very frustrating!.
The car shut off as we were driving, and I had to coast in a very busy freeway. . . The engine just died. Very stressful situation because I was on a highway and I had to coast until off the highway. . Then to restart the car it took at least 15 min of trying. . . I thought it was just a battery etc, but I did take to the dealer and nothing was noticed,,,,from then on I've been experiencing difficulties in starting the car, or in the morning or when I leave work at 2 am etc. . . So I thought it was only my car, but I noticed that there are other owners with the same problem. . . Starting the engine and or just dying as we are driving. . I am learning that it is a problem with a fuel pump. . . But it seems that Nissan doesn't care or it is not important to them. . . Please thank you for your time and consideration. . Updated 06/22/2012.
I purchased a 2009 Nissan Versa. I have just over 40,000 miles. While driving on the highway at 65 miles per hour in the left lane, my car suddenly shut off and lost acceleration at an alarming rate. Due to a guard rail on my left, I needed to get over to the right lane quickly and was just barely able do so safely. I was almost involved in a very dangerous accident! my car was towed to a local repair shop and it was found that my fuel pump was dead and needed to be replaced. I had to pay for a very expensive repair on a relatively brand new vehicle ! I was told that this happens often. This is extremely dangerous and definitely unacceptable!.
I own a Nissan Versa 2008 hatchback. After I pull away from the gas pump, the car was losing its acceleration and then stall. I was trying to start again but it wouldn't turn over. The car was towed. I was told that the fuel pump went bad. My basic warranty expired two months ago (December 5, 2010). The fuel pump was recplaced at my expenses.
When I first purchased my new 09 Nissan Versa I had a start up issue and then it went away, now approx one year later after purchase I had start up issues. . . Took it to dealership and they put in a fuel pump regulator, from what I'm hearing this is a very known problem. Thought I would advise you since I also heard some people are having to replace this often and some are losing power when driving there cars on highways. . . I hope this never happens for me since I have to kids!!!!.
