1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2022

On the invoice/receipt the part of automobile is plenium seal ck wp. The remarks/labor description on invoice indicates repairing vacuum hose at read of throttle. My car simply stalled while driving on a main busy street. Fortunately, it was on a holiday (Feb 21, 2022) and there were no school crossings on this day!. I was shaken up, anxious. There was a nearby (with in a quarter mile or so) an independent auto repair/service shop and I was able to have them fix the issue. I feel this is a safety issue, as this could have been worse, and stalled while driving on the freeway. I will be writing to the manufacturer to inform them what has happened. There were no other warning signs prior to the vehicle stalling while driving.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2020

There was a safety recall for radiators in Nissan Xterras in 2019 , I was never informed about this recall or service bulletins even though Nissan knows I own the vehicle in their database also there is an electrical problem with the ipdm box which is defective according to the Nissan pages on facebook and other sites, where the white ipdm box is defective and causes power loss and lights not working along with car stalling while driving, it is apparently a defect and the cost to replace it is over I was never notified of the Xterra transmission cooler defect or recall back in 2019, ive owned this Xterra since 2008 and its been to the dealer for another previous recall, also there is a problem with the white ipdm box, (fuse box) which should be investigated, per the Nissan owners facebook page, and other blogs the ipdm causes stalling and shutdowns of all functions in the 2005-2014 Nissans, consumers are having to pay upwards of $600 to the dealership for these defective ipdm boxes, there is a known defect which was recalled years ago about a relay for that box, I believe my Xterra relay was fixed, but I am having a problem with the vdc/ slip light coming on and my headlights go on and off while driving at night. According to the websites it has to do with the white ipdm box underneath where the wires are harnessed, this needs to be adressed it is a safety hazzard while driving on the highway or in town because the vehicle is totally disabled and will cause injury/death ive been reading Nissan pages to find out why my lights are going on and off, ive repalced the camshaft and crankshaft pos sensors, Nissans previous recall for a diode apparantly this didnt fix it, it just masked the situation, read up on newx. Org about this problem.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2020

Transmission started jerking and radiator blew at the same time.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2020

Vehicle has stalled multiple times, both in motion and parked. There were no warning signals, strange noises, or other indicators to point to the issue. Additionally, when trying to use the obd port to diagnose the issue, the obd port will not read and only gives an error.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2018

Radiator leaked water into the transmission got my transmission burnt. . The power was idle almost causing an accident on my way home. I had to tow my car home . This is a common problem with Nissan Xterra. .

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2018

Leaking coolant is mixing with transmission fluid through the cooler lines to create a toxic hell stew that irreversibly damages everything around it.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2017

Transmission destroy by leaking radiator antifreeze into transmission also catalytic converters clogged, my Xterra only has 70 k miles on it, to early for all of this problems to happen it's going to cost me a lot of money to fix it, please help.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2017

While driving on highway, transmission failed. No warning indications, just failed. The engine revved up but the vehicle would not go above 30 mph. Transmission failed, the radiator was bad. So like all other Nissan owners, I'm out $3700 for the transmission rebuild to include a new radiator and another $300 to rent a car so I can get to work. Nissan you are very irresponsible and should be reimburse your customers, I tend on spreading the word to all to avoid Nissan because of their lack of customer support on this safety issue.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2017

Car randomly will shut off.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2016

Radiator leaked coolant into the transmission . My truck is now sitting at aamco with 5200 dollars worth of transmission radiator and computer board damage.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2016

I bought my Xterra in sept. 2014 and just this last month. Not even putting 20,000 miles on it and still have a loan on it had to put 4700 into it because of the radiator fluid running into the transmission. It was fine one day and the next day I was going 40 miles an hour and it starts jerking on me and wouldn't go over 20 miles an hour. I could have gotten in a accident with all the traffic. I don't understand why there was not a recall on this. What I have read from other people this has happened a lot. Don't you think Nissan would stand behind their product and fix their mistakes!.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2016

I was driving Nissan Xterra on the busy street and suddenly I notice smoke coming from under the hood. I stopped the car on the closest parking lot and tried to go away from the car. I was scared it will blow up. After few minutes the smoke stopped coming from under the hood. I called towing and my mechanic told me it is transmission problem. It was truly horrible experience.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2015

Transmission faliure due to a known problem of the oil cooler leaking into the transmission. I should not have to pay $3300. When they know it is a problem!.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2015

On Sunday, August 30, 2015, while driving from maryland to virginia, on a speed limit of 55, vehicle slowed down and transmission wont engaged while accelerating the gas pedal, rpm was going to the higher number/red zone and car will not move faster up to the noted speed limit. When we stop at the light, and the lights turn green, the vehicle will not move and make loud noise and rpm going higher to the red zone numbers. This caused traffic behind us back up because of speed too slow in a 55-mile per hour speed. I was afraid it could have caused an accident. This happened several times during a 200-mile travel from maryland to virginia. I read that there were several complaints about Nissan vehicles about radirator water leaks to the transmission and causing it to malfunction. According the price transmission experts, this is the same problem and the cost to repair will cost $4,400. 00 I would like to have Nissan pay the repair cost.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2015

Radiator fluid in the transmission and transmission fluid in the radiator. Caused transmission to fail. Need to replace both now because of a mechanical defect in adf line.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2015

While driving and trying to enter a major highway at about 40 mph and trying to accelerate, I had to pull out to the shoulder because the truck wouldn't shift to a higher gear. . . I had to get out of the highway because the truck wasn't able to accelerate and remained on 1st shift struggling to get to 2nd and then 3rd. . . . I got home and heard the engine or radiator make bubbling noise. . . . After 3 or 4 hours I opened the radiator and saw all sorts of gunk like bubblegum. . . It was still warm and it oozed out falling all over my driveway. . . I payed a mechanic $300 to change the radiator thinking it was the problem . . . Only to find out it was much more and more money also. . . . I looked for another mechanic and he said it would cost $4000 to fix everything. . . I've wasted more than $3000 trying to figure out what the problem is. . Now the mechanic says that a new transmission module valve is needed . . . . How many more trucks breaking down or complaints until this issue is resolved. . . . I was lucky that when I was on the highway no cars were coming full speed. . . Because without being able to accelerate I would of caused an accident and gotten killed. . . I loved my truck and miss riding it. . . Please look into this. . . Thank you. .

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2015

Transmission went out on vehicle and after researching the problem I found that several complaints had been filed against Nissan from others customers experiencing the same problem. There had also been a class action suit filed because so many customers were having the same problem. When I contacted Nissan about the issue, they told me that the campaign was closed and that they would not be able to assist me in getting my vehicle repaired. The cost to fix the vehicle is over $4,000. 00.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2015

I was on my way back from the the mall when I heard my fan/belt start to squeal. Not thinking anything of it I keeped on driving next thing I know I'm pressing harder on my gas peddle just to go faster. My rpms where going to high and I was only going 65. I was on the high when this happen so I didn't notice till I had to go up a bridge and that's when I really notice my engine struggling to get power, it sounded like it was doing a lot when it really wasn't. I knew I had to go to the machanic to get it looked at they told me it was a lose bolt. Next thing ik I'm driving home and my car was doing the same thing again but this time it wasn't going into gear in drive, so I tried 3 gear still nothing so I went to 2 and it stuck. I parked it on a side street in ocean city and called trip a and had it towed to Nissan of atlantic city to see what was wrong. Couple days later they called and told me my raidiator fluid leaked into my transmission and messed all the gears up. After hearing that I looked up that problem on Xterras apparently this is a pretty common accurance on them. I was not notified of such problems by the dealer and apparently Nissan want renberrse me so I'm out 7,500 because my Nissan is sitting in my back yard.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2015

Defective radiator leaked engine coolant into automatic transmission fluid (atf), causing cross-contamination of fluids that will ruin the re5r05a transmission. The engine coolant water contamination can short-circuit the low current electronic computer located on the valve body. This transmission was used in Xterra; frontier; pathfinder and armada vehicles manufactured between 2005 and 2010. Fixing the radiator and replacing the contaminated fluid with fresh fluid does not alleviate the problem, as the transmission computer has been permanently damaged. The only way to fix a damaged transmission computer is to replace it with a new one, and they are only available from Nissan as part of a new valve body assembly. . Read more...

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2014

Rear passenger doors keep locking and won't open/unlock at all. Oem parts were used for actuator and other issues, however it has happened again. Very unsafe, as if they jam, we can't exit the vehicle and have to climb to the rear hatch or through the front seats. If there were an accident, it would be detrimental.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

Faulty radiator and transmission Nissan will not cover for damage ,vehicle suddenly dies while driving, very much known problem.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2014

Transmission, radiator problems. Car is a lemon.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2014

Coolant from Nissan's defectively designed radiator leaked into my transmission. The transmission, valve body, computer, and radiator needed to be replaced at a total of $4,000. While driving my Xterra home up a steep grade it was having a problem shifting and its rpm was almost red lining so I stepped off the gas. The Xterra was at times bucking, shifting up and down rapidly making it very hard to drive it home. My vehicle couldn't go over 40mph and I had some people almost run into the back of me while limping it home. This is a major safety hazard and I pray no one has been severely injured or killed in an accident caused by this issue Nissan created. Shame on them!.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2014

Check engine light came on, took to mechanic for a check and found that we were leaking radiator coolant into the transmission fluid. Had to replace parts and flush transmission at a pricey cost.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

When driving the car at 40mph/around 1000rpms the vehicle began vibrating at the back end. Upon acceleration, the vibration ceased. This behavior became consistent. A mechanic independent from Nissan found that the transmission and radiator must be replaced per his conversation with the local Nissan dealership. Also advising independent mechanic that the dealership admits to having a floor full of transmissions that need repair. I investigated the class action suit filed in 2010 and already settled, but had no knowldege of this prior as Nissan did not alert me to the persistent problem since 2005 I should expect my car to develop.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2014

Car began overheating and even when allowed cool down time continued to run hot. Inspection shows that the car has transmission leaking into the radiator. Even when flushed and refilled - immediately mixes again. Car is not operable. Dealership indicates $5k to repair. The car has just passed 100,000 and is not eligible for any warranty. Nissan was well aware of this issue and opted not to recall or even inform customers of issues to watch for. Now, I am out a car - I do not have 5k nor do I have the ability to walk out and just buy a new car. Thanks Nissan for looking out for yourself and not the customers who keep you in business.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2014

The radiator leaks coolant into the transmission. Consequently both the transmission and the radiator has to be replaced.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2014

I bought a Nissan Xterra 06 in September 2013. It's now July 5 2014, not even a year after I bought it, and I'm having issues getting my car fixed. Something in the radiator busted and caused the coolant to leak into the transmission which means that I now need a new radiator and a new transmission which is going to cost roughly 5,100 dollars to fix in which I cannot afford. I purchased an extended warranty when I purchased my car so that if I had any major issues, like this, I would be covered financially bc anyone knows that car repairs can be quite costly. I was told that, zurich, my warranty company, would not pay for the repairs bc the problem came from the radiator and it's not covered in the warranty which leaves me to pay for the costly repairs. I believe that the dealership I got my car from should pay for the repairs as I havnt had it a whole year yet. I feel as if ive been skrewed over. Nissan also needs to issue a recall bc I'm not the only 06 Xterra owner to have this issue. Please help me, I have a 1 yr. Old daughter and I need my car fixed and don't have 5100 dollars to fix it myself. Thank you.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2014

When my Xterra was idling in park or at a stop light, the car was overheating. Also while accelerating, the car was shuddering when changing gears. Upon taking the vehicle to a repair garage, I was informed that this particular model Nissan is notorious for faulty radiators being installed which caused coolant fluid to leak / mix in with transmission fluid, thus damaging the transmission, possibly to the point of having to be replaced as well as the radiator. My car is sitting at a garage now waiting for the radiator to be replaced and try to run the vehicle to see how bad the damage now is to the transmission.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2014

Engine cut off, rough idled, would not respond to acceleration. Attempted to re-start, rough idled, check engine light flickering, required towing. At repair shop, no problem, bad gas was the diagnosis. Repeated. Would not start. Required towing. Tow operator tried a few resets, oxygen sensors, nothing. Towed home. Next day, started fine.

31 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2014

Radiator fluid leaked into the transmission. The only fix is to replace both the radiator and the transmission at a cost of approximately $7,000. This is a known issue with several Nissan models, years 2005-2010 and class action has been taken. The settlement provided no help to someone in my situation with over 100,000 miles on the vehicle and provided very limited financial reimbursement for those who qualified. This is a known, catastrophic issue and recalls or reimbursements were the proper, safe, ethical solution. This was not done, and now I am stuck with a fix that will cost 90% of what the car is worth. There was no solution given that could have prevented it, so I really had no option here but to wait for the failure and get stuck with the $7000 bill. Fortunately, I did not experience any known safety hazards with this failure, but a failed radiator and transmission could potentially be dangerous.

32 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2014

Car was not accelerating properly and was shaking. Took it to the shop. The radiator had failed allowing coolant into my transmission and ruining my transmission. Repair will cost $4102 + tax.

33 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2014

I purchased my 2006 Nissan Xterra a month ago and when I drove off the lot it registered a quarter tank of gas but the next day as I was driving it ran out of gas. I filled up the gas tank and again it registered a quarter tank for about 5 minutes then went to e with the gas light on. I looked online and found there was a recall for the fuel sending unit and I called Nissan who told me to take it to a local dealer to get looked at. I just came back from the dealer who told me that it was already replaced with a new part and there is nothing they can do for me. If it was replaced with a new part then why is there still a problem. This is an extreme hazard as I can run out of gas in the middle of an intersection or a busy highway. I feel this should be fixed by Nissan as they know this is a faulty part and evidently even the new parts are faulty.

34 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2014

The transmission started to slip, turns out the atf was contaminated by the radiator failing and leaking coolant into the transmission. This was determined by the dealer and of course it was out of warranty. I replaced the radiator and the transmission is being worked on by a transmission shop to the tune of several thousand dollars. The contamination ruined at least all clutch plates, the bands, and the torque converter.

35 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2014

Transmission went out. While driving on highway, rpms went up and car would not move. Diagnosis was new transmission and radiator. Seems to be a problem with 2006 Nissan Xterras with low mileage.
