36 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2010

My fuel gauge went out on my Nissan Xterra 07. It just stopped reading once it hit 1/4 tank. I ran out of gas thinking I was still at 1/4 tank. I was stranded on a road with very little shoulder and luckily no accidents happened.

37 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

The fuel gauge on my 2007 Nissan Xterra 39k miles is erratic. After filling the gas tank, it shows empty and goes up very slowly. It takes over an hour to show close to full. Since this problem started, an amber warning, "service engine soon" has been displayed constantly on the instrument panel.

38 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2009

The 2007 Nissan Xterra that was purchased for my sons has had a gas gauge that never recorded properly. This has been an ongoing problem that my sons have noticed from the beginning. First they wondered about it. . . And then said something to us. We notified the dealership, notified them again, and again, and again (I think you get the story) and finally after a couple of years, one sales serviceman said "yes others have the same problem". The replaced the gauge and then requested that I come back when the fuel tank was really empty to replace something in the tank. I did both these things. We haven't noticed a problem since but all boys are in college without the car. Our car also isn't one of the cars being recalled for anything. . . It's the same year but it is when the car was manufactured. I called Nissan many, many times. Unresponsive reps and had a few senior people call me after my numerous attempts, said they mailed me something about one item that was recalled. I said that I never received anything and they wouldn't resend it. I will never buy another Nissan vehicle again. Our other vehicles are a 2008 suburban and a 2008 300 mercedes. Less problems with both. Nissan people if you are reading this. . . Your customer service stinks. Btw the original dealership by my house went under and closed. . . Family Nissan. . Bought car at el monte because it had the car I wanted and at a better price.

39 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2009

I have a 2007 Nissan exterra and the fuel gauge is malfunctioning. I took it to the Nissan dealer last year and they said it was the fuel sending unit which would cost 450. 00 to replace. This is a big problem becouse I never know how much gas I have in my fuel tank I need to fuel constanly.

40 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2009

Filled the tank 100% but it only showed 1/4 of a tank of gas and then goes to empty immediately after. The full tank did not register and the check engine light came on. I visited an auto shop and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 30k miles. I have seen the same problems posted online and there needs to be a recall if this is the case for many 2006-2008 Nissan Xterras.

41 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2009

I have a 07 Xterra, after 27,000 miles check engine light is on, gas tank meter is stuck in full or empty. I have to keep track by miles to not run out of gas. The part is in back order.

42 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2009

2007 Nissan Xterra. . . Fuel gauge senor. . . Fuel tank always reads zero. . . Check engine light stays on. . . Can not get inspection sticker!!!.

43 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2009

I fill my gas tank, the gauge falls to the bottom and the service engine soon light comes on. After it is driven for a short distance the gauge will gradually move to the top and work again. The service engine soon light has remained on.

44 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2009

Fuel sending unit failure. Gas gauge does not show right fuel level , it stays stuck at 1/4 tank and you think you have enough gas but you don't. Almost ran out of gas on highway. Dealer is replacing fuel sending unit.

45 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2009

I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and drove to work with intentions on filling up when I got off of work. After getting off, I started my vehicle and the gas light was on and the gauge was below the e. I went to directly to fill up. After filling up my gas tank, I turned on the car, at which point the needle did not move and the gas light stayed on. After driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. I have not gone to the dealer yet, but after reading everyone else's complaints on this same issue, I thought I would go ahead and start the complaint process. I don't have the 400 to 600 dollars right now to pay on an issue that Nissan should have corrected years ago so I will have to pray that I do not run out of gas until I have the extra money to repair Nissan's problem.

46 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2009

I have Nissan Xterra '07 with 41k miles on it. On our 4-th of July trip after fueling up the full tank I noticed that the fuel level needle did not go up after I started the engine. It took ~30 minutes then it went all the way up. But then while driving I noticed that the "engine service soon" light is on and the fuel level needle is all the way down (like no fuel at all. ) then I read that the ess lights up when the vehicle thinks there is no fuel so it was obviously a fuel level sensor malfunction. Later I investigated more and found out that a lo of people with Xterras 05-07 have the same problem at approximately the same mileage. The p/n 25060-zs00a on the service bulletin # ntb07-69a. I think all these defective fuel level sensors should be recalled.

47 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2009

2007 Nissan Xterra with 51,000 miles. Fuel gauge is reading empty when there is a full tank of gas. Since the vehicle is so new, I feel this is a faulty system with poor design and/or materials selection.

48 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2009

1. No events leading to the failure but just driving 2. The failure is the check engine light came on and then a few days later the gas gauge started messing up; when it gets to 1/2 a tank it drops to empty and when filling up the gas tank it takes a day or so before the gas gauge reads full again; a consequence is I have ran out of gas do to this situation since the gas gauge does not function right 3. To fix the problem the vehicle needs a new fuel leveling/sending unit; it is a Nissan Xterra 2007 but production year of 2006 and was told by Nissan that the truck's VIN did not come up for the recall they have going on for production year of 2006 and 2008 Xterras although the symptoms of my issue is exactly the symptoms of the recall and that the truck falls into the production year of the recall years. Problem has not been fixed at all, and I am not paying out of pocket for an issue that is common with the Nissan Xterras hence the recalls.

49 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2009

I had a 1/4 tank of gas in my 2007 Nissan Xterra so I filled it up with gas. When I turned the engine back on the fuel gauge read 1/4 tank still. As I proceeded to drive the ses light came on. I went directly to the dealer and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 30k miles. After returning home and doing research, I went online to x. Nissanhelp. Com after performing a search, I came across many others who have experienced the same problem. Apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. A similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 Xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. It seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. There is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39k-49k. If this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 Xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. Cost of repair ranges from $300-600.

50 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2009

At 40k miles, fuel gauge started intermittent failure, along with "check engine" light. . . Internet boards for Xterra owners indicated widespread similar problems. I contacted nearest Nissan dealer in parkersburg, wv, was told would cost me $330 for parts & labor to replace the fuel level sensor in the fuel tank. First, I don't feel obligated to pay out of pocket for this repair, for a vehicle that isn't even 3 years old with 40k miles. Secondly, most certainly don't want to replace it with same type of sensor that hasn't been updated & will likely malfunction as well, as has been reported by many other Xterra owners. I have been estimating fuel level in tank by using trip odometer, and vehicle now shows 42k miles. . . Gauge continues to malfunction intermittently. I would like it repaired under "good faith" by a dealer, with no out-of-pocket cost, when I take it for the recall notice about replacing the front impact airbag sensor. . . Haven't scheduled that repair yet, but would like to have it all done at that time. Thank you!.

51 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

I drive a 2007 Nissan Xterra. . . Which I bought new from the dealer. I stopped to get gas a few months ago and noticed that, after putting gas in my tank, my light still said I was on empty. After a few hours it jumped back up to full, and now, as soon as my gas is at 3/4 of a tank, it automatically jumps to e and my check engine light remains on. I am constantly stopping for gas because I cannot tell how much gas I have. Further, after doing research, I have discovered this is an apparent huge problem with other Nissan Xterras, pathfinders and frontiers from the 2005 to 2007 years. I have also discovered that any auto place wants to charge me up to $600 to fix this part. . Which is an apparent defect from the manufacturer. I should not have to pay any money out of my pocket to fix this!.

52 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2008

1) fuel gauge stopped functioning, and service engine indicator lighted. The fuel gauge behaves erratically, generally showing tank is empty, even when full. 2) problem occurs constantly, requiring careful tracking of mileage to determine when to re-fuel. 3) checked on-line forums for Nissan Xterras, and this is a common problem caused by corrosion to the fuel sender unit. Most replacements cost between $450 and $650 for parts and labor.

53 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2008

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Xterra. The contact was driving approximately 50 mph when the vehicle stalled due to having no fuel. The contact stated that the fuel level gauge displayed that the fuel tank was half full. The vehicle was not inspected for the failure. The manufacture was contacted and stated the vehicle was not covered by the warranty and the contact would have to pay for the cost of repairs. The contact later received an extended warranty notification from the manufacturer for vehicles under 72,000 miles that had experienced the fuel tank failure however, the contacts vehicle was over the mileage at the time of notification. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

54 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2008

My 2007 Nissan Xterra has a fuel gauge that does not go to full after the tank is filled. The gauge drops to empty and the fuel indicator light goes on indicating low fuel. In addition, the service engine soon message indicator light goes on. This could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of crash. There currently is a recall on the 2006 and 2008 models (NHTSA #10v075000) related to a faulty fuel sender float arm causing the instrument panel to mislead. This is very common as there are many complaints of the same issue.

55 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2008

I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. After filling up my gas tank, I turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. After driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. I went directly to the dealer and Nissan customer service and was told that it was a fuel sending unit/sensor and that it was no longer covered after 30k miles. After returning home and doing research, I went online to x. Nissanhelp. Com after performing a search, I came across many others who have experienced the same problem.
