Rear passenger side door will not open from the inside or outside. This is apparently a widespread problem for Nissan Xterra rear doors. It creates a safety problem as passengers cannot leave the vehicle in case of an accident.

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Xterra. While driving at any speed, the vehicle made an abnormal loud noise without warning. The failure recurred continuously. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear differential disengaged and damaged the ring and pinion; overhaul rear differential. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The approximate failure mileage was 41,485.

Called roadside assistance to change a tire. The spare tire rubber was burned in three or more places from the heat spreading under the vehicle, and the char/melting/burning went through the vehicle body from the bottom of the vehicle outside to the floor inside. The man changing my tire suggested it was a fire waiting to happen and that there could be a recall for this sort of issue. I checked and do not see anything listed. My tired is now damaged from the heat melting the rubber, and my vehicle is charred in places.

I was traveling at 25 (no more than 30) mph when another vehicle collided with mine. The other vehicle did clip the middle 1/3 and entire passenger side of my Xterra. The hood was crushed to the first third of the front passenger wheel well, transmission and radiator fluids were leaking from the SUV, grill was obliterated, front passenger headlight was crushed into the battery (that leaks due to the accident), and the front bumper was impinging the front passenger wheel from freely moving. The airbags should have deployed, but did not. The vehicle is not drivable and had to be towed. I am filing this complaint because I believe that the severity of impact should have resulted in airbag deployment.

Rear passenger doors keep locking and won't open/unlock at all. Oem parts were used for actuator and other issues, however it has happened again. Very unsafe, as if they jam, we can't exit the vehicle and have to climb to the rear hatch or through the front seats. If there were an accident, it would be detrimental.

There is usual rust on body of truck. There is some kind of electrical problem rather it’s the security system or wiring. There’s a clicking sound coming from dash area. There is a suspension problem, has to change leaf springs, struts and shocks often.
Vehicle is just over 2 years old and the entire back bumper already has rust/corrosion, this is a common occurrence with Xterras but its so rusted if impacted in the rear it has the potential for the rear bumper to fail. And Nissan wont cover the bumper in warranty even extended $2000 warranty. Vehicle has been rusting slowly over the past few months.
The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that she noticed that the rear hatch and rear bumper were completely corroded. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician verified the failure and stated that the rear bumper and hatch door needed to be pulled off in order to be sanded and re-painted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 45,000 and the current mileage was 51,000.
Radiator is falling out of truck ,due to serious rust on framing, hood latch is starting to break free hood could fly up onto windshield .
I currently own a 2004 Nissan Xterra and it is leaking water in the rear. I had the back glass and roof rack checked out by a professional. To the professional's finding the window and roof rack were not leaking but the welded seam of my vehicle is leaking on the rear passenger side. The seam was never welded right and over the course of time it has caused a hair line crack on the roof. The professional looked on the rear driver side and noticed the welded seam is started to give away too. Due to the crack my vehicle is leaking water everytime it rains or snows. My back carpet has been removed so no further damage can be done to the back interior.

I drove the vehicle on a freeway under construction with one finished new pavement lane. When I was changed the other old lane to the new one, the wheel suddenly got out of control and spun from one lane to the other and ended in the midium bumped into barriers. Lately I contacted with Nissan and question if this is associated with the recall r1037. They denied.
The step boards of the 2000 Nissan Xterra are corroding. I have been the only owner of the vehicle and there has been no damage or unusual usage of the step boards that would have casued the corrosion. Otherwise, the vehicle, both mechnaically and body, is in excellent shape. I have taken the vehicle to two body shops and both agree the step boards need to be replaced and cannot be repaired. Estimates for new step boards and installation range from $500 to $670. The service manager at my local Nissan dealer indicates the step boards are supposed to be very durable and should not have corroded. However, he was unable to get any financial assistance from Nissan to replace the step boards. My direct request to Nissan was also turned down. Since I had to enter a date in the form below, I entered the date Nissan telephoned me and said they would not be assisting me in my effort to replace the step boards. My file number was 567. 8334. There have been no accidents or deaths due to the defect. However, this is clearly a defective factory installed part on the vehicle.

I purchased my 2006 Xterra on Feb 18th, 2006. Within 2 weeks I noticed it was leaking during rain showers when parked in my driveway. I took the vehicle to a dealer and they were unable to recreate the problem. I took the vehicle home and it leaked once again. I took it back to the dealer and they were unable to fix it. I took it home and it leaked again so I took it to a new dealer and they concluded, with the help of Nissan engineers, that a design flaw in the Xterra allows water to enter the vehicle when parked on an uphill incline. The water enters through the air vents under the cowling and drops onto the blower motor under the passenger side dashboard. The water then exits the blower motor through an electrical connector and onto the front passenger carpet. Nissan has offered no remedy for the problem.
Right rear floor pan began creaking in may 2002. Upon closer inspection, the right rear floorpan was found to have a crack at least an inch in length. The sheet metal is cracked completely through such that you can see light through it. I took the vehicle to Nissan west in ellicott city maryland at about 38000 miles. They told me I was out of luck since the vehicle was then out of the 3/36 warranty. Since then the purchasing dealer has documented the crack and Nissan has been notified. I am awaiting a response from Nissan. This problem sounds like it could be the same or related to NHTSA item number 621967.
