Heat shield on bottom of 2000 Nissan Xterra se became loose and required tightening to stop rattling on numerous occasions since bought car new in the end of 1999 from a dealership in chicago - maybe 6-12 times. While driving on 1/17/07, brakes just gave out. When car brought to shop, it turns out the heat shield was rubbing on the steel brake line on the passenger side/bottom of the engine and vibration/rubbing had finally eroded the steel brake line to the point it began to leak.

I purchased an 05 Xterra in September. At about 6,000 miles it developed a squeak in the front end. I took it back to the dealership 5 times and the last time they were able to locate the noise and stop it. I asked the service writer what the problem was and she told me I didn't want to know. I pushed for an answer and was told that the frame on the passenger side front was not welded, causing the metal to rub together and squeak. She also told me that the washer fluid tank was rubbing the frame. The only thing written on my service order was the washer fluid tank. I don't know if my Xterra has a faulty frame or not. The consumer line for Nissan has a file number for me but I have made repeated attempts to get a call back from them with no response.

On June 16, 2005, my passenger torsion bar which is necessary for vehicle suspension, snapped in half. My vehicle is a 2001 Nissan Xterra se VIN# 5n1ed28yx1c542637. I took my vehicle to get checked on same date, and was advised that part of the torsion bar was hanging down and the situation could be fatal if said bar impaled into the concrete while driving or much worse, impale itself in the back seat where my severn year old daughter sits. Burdick Nissan was contacted same date, and I was advised that this part will be available on June 20, 2005. On June 20, 2005, I was advised that this part is on national back order with no estimated time when it will become available. I called the national Nissan hotline 1-800-Nissan 1, and filed a complaint (file# 4971545) I was assured that a specialist would call me within 24-48hours. I have yet to hear from a Nissan specialist even though I have called three times since then, the dates being: june24, 25, and 27. Each time, I was assured that I would be contacted, to no avail. I even requested to speak to on supervisor during the last two calls, but was told none was available. I was given no feedback as to when I could obtain this part and Nissan denied that this was a nationwide problem even though this part is on nationwide backorder. My local Nissan dealer's parts department said they could only put me on a list but had no further recourse or information for me. That dealer is burdick Nissan in cicero NY phone 3315-458-8915. In the meantime, my only vehicle is deemed to be unsafe and unfit to drive.
